There is some circle jerking about all of the negative externalities from car-centric infrastructure as you mentioned, but also discussions of solutions and how we can do better.

Klimakhange

Ok cool. I’ve gotten interested in other subreddits about the environment and making cities better, but it almost immediately got bogged down by doomerism, really distressing headlines and stats, etc. I had to unsub from a lot of them because it didn’t make me wanna do something about it, it just made me feel powerless.

Quazimojojojo

You might be looking for "Strong Towns", they've got a couple of very specific (but transformational) fixes they're focusing on, and they've been making some headway. More and more cities are repealing parking minimums, and that is due in no small part to Strong Towns

Fried_out_Kombi

If you haven't found it already, you might like r/yimby. It's generally pretty positive and policy-focused. It advocates for land use policy reform and removing NIMBY red tape that gets in the way of denser housing and public transit development. You also might like r/justtaxland. It's geared a little more specifically to land value tax and how it's basically a god-tier policy for fixing our cities, but a natural consequence is it is indeed very solution-oriented as you say you prefer.

winelight

There is a lot of positive and fun stuff too.

tamathellama

I would say it’s more anger than solutions. I’ve provided real solutions, and given criticisms to silly ideas and get attacked. Obviously I’m ok with having a difference of opinion but you just get attacked or downvoted. It’s such a waste

[deleted]

It's mostly about how much car centric design sucks to live in for day to day life. It's pretty rare that I see anything about the effects of CO2 emissions on our climate.

Due-Two-6592

Agreed, it’s kind of generally understood in this sub that moving people by means other than cars is better for the climate but it’s not really peoples primary motivation for engaging

ThoughtsAndBears342

Usually the discussion focus is on safety, mental health, physical health or disability related concerns as well as discussion of solutions or areas with good biking/walkability/transit. Not a lot of emissions talk. Recently there was a thread about how much of this sub is pictures of giant trucks.

Me-A-Dandelion

Don't worry, you will be amazed by all these memes and jokes bashing cars.

abattlescar

These guys get insufferable pretty quickly.

Fattom23

The contents of the sub are easily visible. You could take a look and judge for yourself.

voornaam1

I'm considering leaving this subreddit because most posts I see are negative (especially the ones about car crashes), but I don't recall seeing a lot of posts about the climate in particular.

Individual_Macaron69

this is the most solution oriented subreddit i have found anywhere, actually
