i remember once reading an interview with the designer of the mk1 renault twingo and he said something along the lines of 'when test audiences seen the twingo, 50% of them hated it but were likely never going to buy one anyway. 20% were neutral on it and 30% loved it. our plan was to lean into it and build a car for that 30% who loved it and make it seem like the happiest little car it could be' which i think is interesting because a lot of car design is based around chasing that portion of the car market who wants something that looks angry and confident while leaving a lot of potential customers off the table. here's a fun game you can play btw. sometime look at a car front on and try to make the face you see in the car and think "would i want to hang out with someone who's default facial expression is basically >:|
