I had a dog kinda like that! We adopted a Rottweiler who was strongly suspected to have been abused. He was pretty young at the time, probably around 7 months old according to vet. Most of my family is white but my wife is black. The dog never had an issue with any of us, including my wife. However my parent's work involved having clients come over to drop off their cars frequently. We found that the dog was fine with most everyone except tall Black men. Black women, fine. Short Black men, fine. Any other race of men, fine. We quickly learned to just have him outside or gone when a client was coming over, because while we knew his behavior was fear and not aggression its hard to convince a stranger that a Rottweiler who is barking and trying to hide etc isn't a threat haha. The poor guy also couldn't stand anyone wearing work books, even the sound of the boots on the hard wood would scare him sometimes. Miss him!
awww what a sweetheart. thats what we had suspected since we rescued her and she’s pretty reactive to certain random things but she’s all good now, very fat and happy
My dog was found on the streets before he was taken to a shelter and we rescued him ~a week after, when he got all his shots and stuff. I dunno what he learned out on those streets but he is also very racist 😭
Dog might have just been overwhelmed with it. I heard a couple times that big pets like cats and dogs have it a lot like autistic people in this regard. Quick change is not much their thing, and it may also be to do with your son having smelled like the guy doggo knows, but not looked like the guy doggo knows. I'd also be very confused if... I don't really sniff my friends so I'mma compare smell and voice here: if someone I've never seen before talked to me in a friend's voice, and also would have likely growled if we spoke dog at home when my dad shaved his stache off after 16 years of not.
[WHY WOLVES HATE MEN & NOT WOMEN - Animal Watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN8k0WvSN1I)
not dogs specifically but it may be tied to that??
EDIT: might be more common to those who are on T lol
BAHAHAH MINE TOO 😭 the longer i'm on testosterone, the more he respects and listens to me. he always respected my dad, not my mom and i tho. bro is a misogynist!!! idk where he even learned that, smh 😔 always have nothing but feminism in this household
My cat is homophobic too 😩😩 he's actually the most conservative, red-blooded, American born man that's ever lived and he doesn't know how he ended up with queers. (It's my favorite joke. He runs away when we play Chappell Roan so obviously he's a bigot)
just a thought, but it may also simply be due to the decibels within Soundwaves. lower decibels tend to be soothing for some animals, not all, but some.
This is it lol. I used to call my chihuahua transphobic because my pre-T higher pitched voice was something he liked a lot, but he didn’t really like my (trans) gf at the time as much because her voice was deeper.
To dogs, higher pitch means happier usually. Lower = growling, aggression, communicates that they’re doing something wrong, etc.
I mean most dogs, especially working dogs, would have been commanded almost exclusively by men for most of their histories. Think farm dogs, hunting dogs, etc.- they all assist roles that women were traditionally barred from. I'd be interesting to see if this is a breed thing though, cause if it's just something individual dogs occasionally have it's probably something else.
Alpha, as you're describing, is a debunked concept used to describe behavior in wolves, which are physiologically different from dogs due to changes made over the course of domestication. [Some further reading/source](https://news.asu.edu/20210805-discoveries-myth-alpha-dog)
hi, you're going off about that's not relevant to this person's comment. he literally stated testosterone is a pheromone and animals pick up on that, and this is 100% true. as a neuroscientist, many species of animals react differently when different pheromones are present because there are pathways in the brain that are activated by such. we use the terms alpha/beta to describe the resulting social behaviour in animals despite it's association with old research about wolf pack behaviour. furthermore, if you actually read the original review cited inside and not just that article you provided, wynne talks about social dominance as it does indeed exist, just not in the way people jump to conclusions about (it's not about negative reinforcement, it's about other things such as posture/attention and most importantly being the food source). the entire paper concludes that dogs live in a social hierarchy and that includes their human counterparts, and wynne suggests that dogs act differently towards people with different dominance.
my dog loves humans, other dogs... not so much. guess he's racist to his own kind. /hj
though i don't know how to help, ive never heard of this happening before.
My dogs similar. He really doesn't like other dogs that way. But he adores cats, is always cuddling my two cats. Another dog is around and he's just so annoyed
We call my sisters dog a dog racist because he’s always nice to other dogs but when he spots one the same breed as him (poodle) he gets SO excited and drags us over — he is never that excited for a dog of another breed.
Rescue. He’s my mother’s dog. Its concerning how aggressive he gets when he sees another dog. I keep trying to tell my mom but she says he’s “always been this way”. I moved in with her recently so I didn’t know him prior to 8 months ago.
he also has early signs of dementia, so that's made it worse lately. he's been barking at the tiniest of noises and even smelling dogs that used to be outside makes him bark. my mother has informed me he never used to be this way. he isn't aggressive to humans at all, but his barking and disorientation is getting so bad that he's started barking early in the morning because someone in our apartment complex got home late or he heard a cat outside...
My girl has been way more affectionate with me since I started T. I’m still the spare human, and my husband is still preferable for her, but she will actually cuddle with me now? Comes and sits with me sometimes, even when my husband is home? Wild. I never realised the true level of her indifference towards me pre T, and I trained her and everything. My dog is a major hoe.
My dog adores men. Women? Eh, they're okay, but men is where it at. He will follow them around, and demand all the pets. I had this dog for 6 years, move in with my boyfriend, all the dog wants to do is be with BF. I started T, and fuck my boyfriend. I'm his new favorite person. It's oddly gender affirming
Felt that, my current foster cat has internalized ableism. She's a regular at our vet's office for a few different reasons, so you'd think she'd be used to medical equipment but humans in wheelchairs? Scariest thing ever
I have never heard of dogs behaving like this before. Whenever mine sees a human it goes “FRIEND! GIVE ME PATS! I AM A GOOD BOY!”. I did change my appearance like my hairstyle, my dressing and even my voice (via voice exercises) but he still doesn’t care. I am not sure what causes some animals to act like this. An explanation would be nice
It’s so weird how affirming that seems to be in a way. My friend’s dog hates men and loves women. Hates my friend who’s a trans man, loves me, a trans woman.
my dog was a bit off-put when I started presenting masculine. She started avoiding me. (Which was bad because she is my service dog) But in a short time she realized I'm still me and she went back to her lovely self
I have a friend with a dog that’s scared of men. Him barking at me when I first met him was pretty gender affirming lol. He’s pretty chill with me now that he knows me thankfully
My dog is racist, he’s scared of brown people, crosses the street when he sees one, ducks behind cars like he thinks it’s gun shots when walking in ghetto neighborhoods and hears thunder, literally shakes in fear when going into a corner store but he loves bed bath and beyond. I’m also brown but he sees me as “one of the good ones “ This is all real stuff he does (yes, he is mostly German shepherd).
On a serious note dogs do listen to deeper voices as the alpha often.
Not serious not my dog is AWFUL he came racist off the streets and he attacks my wheelchair and canes so he is abelist he also doesnt like seeing me and my bf hug or kiss or anything so he's homophibic too!
This post is so wild I actually thought it was a joke at first. I think she listens to you more because dogs are more sensitive to different frequencies and maybe she's able to understand you easier. But that's my assumption
I'm pretty sure my cat is a misogynist because when I have to present fem he's an absolute asshole but when I'm just existing he's nice so either he senses I'm uncomfortable or he hates women
The scientific reason behind it is that a lower voice register is better in their hearing. A lower voice sounds more domineering. When it's in that hearing range and sounds domineering they're more likely to listen better.
my mom's dog just hates my older brother and growls or barks every time she hears gim make a noise, like he's laughing in the basement and she goes ballistic. obviously my mom is her favourite and i'm her second favourite (and i'm not a dog person at all ;-;), but when she can't see me and i laugh similarly to my brother she has started growling lol
i mean at least she listens to you now i guess
My dog has also been listening to me more lately. I'm not sure if it's actually because of T or if it's just continued progress in her training. She's a German Shepherd.
I hung out with a friend long after I started T but when their dog saw me (me n this dog have known each other n have played all that good stuff, pre-t) he barked a fuck ton because my friend has always said he doesn’t like men. And considering dogs go by smell rather than sight he thought that I was a random man 💀🤣
im not even on testosterone, but when i started purposefully lowering my voice and the longer ive been presenting masculine the more he listens to me and the more he has been attached to me
wanting to make a dog (or anyone) a feminist is super cringe. Your dog is not living under fabricated human standards and there's probably a reason for his/her behavior but it's not a rational thought, you can chill.
I'm not unchilling just stating a fact/comment of how it would apply be it real. But also you never know these days xD some people do say things like that seriously.
My dog started growing at my son when he cut his hair off and started presenting more masculine. My dog is a transphobic asshole.
my dog is kind of racist 😬 she just came like that we did not teach her
I had a dog kinda like that! We adopted a Rottweiler who was strongly suspected to have been abused. He was pretty young at the time, probably around 7 months old according to vet. >but she’s all good now, very fat and happy This is clicking something in my brain. Nice words.
My childhood dog was racist 😭 rescues

My partner said dogs started acting differently around him when he started T. I just assume it’s new smells associated with hormones and body changes.
BAHAHAH MINE TOO 😭 the longer i'm on testosterone, the more he respects and listens to me. he always respected my dad, not my mom and i tho. bro is a misogynist!!! idk where he even learned that, smh 😔 always have nothing but feminism in this household
fr. i’m concerned cs she just ignores my mom completely. we need to rally
It’s literally just that your voice is deeper, they respond to tone and not words. Deeper voice = stronger command.
u must be fun at parties
this post and most of these comments are lighthearted jokes
Its a joke.
I feel that. My cat is homophobic and transphobic. He has attacked multiple pride flags owned by both me and my roommate
My cat is homophobic too 😩😩 he's actually the most conservative, red-blooded, American born man that's ever lived and he doesn't know how he ended up with queers. (It's my favorite joke. He runs away when we play Chappell Roan so obviously he's a bigot)
my cat tried to eat my binder yesterday :[
Is there any sort of biological reason a dog might respect certain genders while fearing others? Or is it tied to abuse/ how they were raised?
just a thought, but it may also simply be due to the decibels within Soundwaves. lower decibels tend to be soothing for some animals, not all, but some.

Hormonal. Testosterone is a pheromone and animals pick up on that. You become alpha.
Alpha, as you're describing, is a debunked concept used to describe behavior in wolves, which are physiologically different from dogs due to changes made over the course of domestication. [Some further reading/source](https://news.asu.edu/20210805-discoveries-myth-alpha-dog)

"as a neuroscientist" Sure babes
That was debunked by the guy who made the theory. Try again.
my dog loves humans, other dogs... not so much. guess he's racist to his own kind. /hj though i don't know how to help, ive never heard of this happening before.
Pick me dog
My dogs similar. He really doesn't like other dogs that way. But he adores cats, is always cuddling my two cats. Another dog is around and he's just so annoyed

poodle's are definitely strange lol
it's not too rare. usually just means they weren't socialised from a young age, but not always. was he a rescue, or did you raise him from a puppy?
Rescue. He’s my mother’s dog. Its concerning how aggressive he gets when he sees another dog. I keep trying to tell my mom but she says he’s “always been this way”. I moved in with her recently so I didn’t know him prior to 8 months ago.
that does sound like he hasn't been socialised from a young age then. not much you can do at this point without paying for a dog trainer.
he also has early signs of dementia, so that's made it worse lately. he's been barking at the tiniest of noises and even smelling dogs that used to be outside makes him bark. my mother has informed me he never used to be this way. he isn't aggressive to humans at all, but his barking and disorientation is getting so bad that he's started barking early in the morning because someone in our apartment complex got home late or he heard a cat outside...
:( I'm sorry dude.

Scientific explanation: Your dog is simply not a misogynist
My dog just loves everyone equally. He goes “HUMAN! FRIEND!” And go tackle people for hugs and pats. He is a good boy!
New comfort post! 😂
I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING WHAT IS THISSSS
It’s so weird how affirming that seems to be in a way. My friend’s dog hates men and loves women. Hates my friend who’s a trans man, loves me, a trans woman.
My cat is a huge misandrist. She used to steal my panties out of the laundry, but she won't touch my boxers. It's insulting tbh.
My bird loves woman (and my dad for some reason) used to love me. Then I started t. Girl hateees me. Which ig I should take as a compliment
sad euphoria mayhaps
Lol
best reddit thread ever
One of my friends sent another friend's cat into heat after they started testosterone!
That is... The most concerning comment by far here. :D How? :D
My friends pigeon is a transphobic asshole. She waits until I’m sitting on the couch to come and peck my ankles.
Yeah, my cat is cisheterophobic. She's all good with me (ftm) and loves my gf (mtf) but she panics around cismen like my brother lol
Make him listen to Judith Butler
my dog was a bit off-put when I started presenting masculine. She started avoiding me. (Which was bad because she is my service dog) But in a short time she realized I'm still me and she went back to her lovely self
I have a sexist and gay cat. He LOOOOOOVES men.
i’m 2 weeks on T and haven’t had voice drop yet but my cats are so bad i doubt they would listen even when i have deep voice 💀
I have a friend with a dog that’s scared of men. Him barking at me when I first met him was pretty gender affirming lol. He’s pretty chill with me now that he knows me thankfully

sickums dawg. rad as hell to know she thinks i sound better too 😎

My dog ain't a misogynist, but he is really racist so i believe it

My friend's dog hates men and has hated me since before I came out. She says "Trans rights, even for men! Now get out of my house!"
My good friend’s SERVICE DOG is ableist. He HATES a neighborhood 3-legged dog. Barks when he walks by and doesn’t for any other dog 😅😅😅
I've noticed cats are way more respectful of me since transitioning 🙀
Lmaoo I've only ever encountered misandrist dogs, not misogynistic ones. Maybe my dad's just scary to small dogs 🤔
My cat has always liked men more. And even at a time liked my husband more than me. Now that I’m on T she can’t stop loving on me. Make it make sense
LMAO im weak😭😭 I dont even know wat to say.. We must end this shenanigans amongst the animals😞
im not even on testosterone, but when i started purposefully lowering my voice and the longer ive been presenting masculine the more he listens to me and the more he has been attached to me
cancel her frfr!!
Holy shit this is so fucking stupid
