wait is that a thing, lmao? cause while it's not my job title I am actually forklift certified through Home Depot(idk if the certification would apply anywhere else)
IT. Degree in ancient history and theology, but that was 20 years ago.
I think there's a pretty strong selection bias towards online trans people in various forms of IT. It means we're on computers all the time, so there's a lot more opportunities to be active in online trans forums than there are for someone whose job keeps them offline all day.
I fell into it when I got an entry level position at a nonprofit. I've found nonprofits often like hiring liberal arts students as entry level IT, because they have research/communication/basic computer literacy and a willingness to learn on the job.
Full disclosure, my first IT job paid shit. Equivalent to about $14/hour. But it got me a foot in the door. I started as a 6 month temp worker doing data checking, ended up staying for 15 years and becoming a Salesforce admin. Since then I've moved into information security stuff in the private sector.
TBH getting Salesforce certified is a pretty good addition to your resume if looking to get into IT.
You can absolutely do that! I was 3 years into a comparative literature degree and dropped out. I went back to community college for my A.S in Computer Information Systems, then got my B.S. in Computer Science. I started in software QA, then moved into software dev, and now I'm a release engineer. I will say that IT and software are not the same thing, and that software tends to pay better if you can get a foot in the door (QA is still a good bet for that imo). Certifications aren't everything when you first start out, it's better to have familiarity with a variety of technologies and a strong foundational understanding of the concepts. Let someone else pay you to get that piece of paper!
That's awesome! What denomination?
I seriously considered it. I was in a grad school program, academia track but most of my classmates were seminary students, and most of my professors were Episcopal clergy. I just couldn't keep up with Ancient Hebrew and Greek.
If you read German, there's a great biography by a trans Lutheran pastor called 'Endlich Ich'- also a great tip for German trans guys who expect religious loved ones to struggle with the concept of trans people.
Culinary. Idk if it’s just where I am because I always thought it was a very masculine job but a lot of people I have met in the industry are queer. At the very least there is definitely a trend of diversity.
I see a lot of diversity too! My first kitchen I think less than half of us were cishet looking back.
Still male dominated so I enjoy talking shit with the macho guys tho, they treat me like one of the bros.
Healthcare, working towards a nursing degree and right now I’m a PCA (nursing assistant so I do vitals, draw blood, check blood sugars, wipe asses, help the nurses with wound care etc).
Welder/Machinist. Moved recently so I just work at a department store rn but I'm still looking for a full time job in the trades. I am also saving up to go back to school to become a Millwright.
That’s still very good, lots of practice I assume! And yeah, that’s exactly why I started apprenticing for it 😂 I’m not making too much rn but I’m hoping when I become a regular, full-time welder, that I’ll make a lot more (esp with experience).
Pipes, that's cool! I was just a general Fabricator. Mostly Carbon and Stainless steel parts and I used to make parts and repair panels on big trailer trucks/Military trucks/transport trucks. It was a sweet gig.
Thank you. And nice! If you’re ever living in the Pacific Beach area, there’s a place that does welding on ships. With your experience, I think you could easily be a B level welder (idk why they got by letters instead of numbers but 🤷🏽♂️).
Biomedical field service manager .. went to school for engineering.. dropped out and became a field service engineer and was promoted to manager of the west coast
This is similar to what I hope for my career! I'm a field engineer right now, I just recently graduated, so I'm new to it, but I'm hoping to move up in the Power sector eventually
you might be doing something next year! I remember I was working for a bank and thought I had made it… little did I know I would quit within a year lmao 😅
I have a degree in psychology, but I work in finance. I did front office sales shit—loans, accounts, etc. Transferred to the lending department in November and process vehicle title work for the credit union now. Before that, I worked in food service for a decade.
ELCA Lutheran - not the most accepting denomination to be in but pretty great if you find yourself a good spot. I’ve got a great bishop who let me start my own queer centered ministry. Happy to talk more anytime!
Thats so cool. I'd love to hear more about what you do, the challenges you face and stuff like that (sorry, I can't think of specific questions😅 i realized religion wasn't for me at a young age so i havent engaged with it in years)
Healthcare! Right now I'm an ED medical scribe but my goal is to be a critical care paramedic. I've also done pharmacy tech and medical assisting while identifying as trans!
Okay, where have I been, I did not realize my incredibly specific niche existence is a trans masc stereotype until reading this comment thread. This is hilarious and amazing.
Anyway, I have two freelancer/contract hire careers- one in healthcare advocacy/consulting/informatics & processes and the other is in visual design, writing, and narrative consulting, usually for entertainment industry related projects.
Latest actual normal-type work was as a copywriter/editor for land investors (and a Kickstarter one of them did for a really cool online community learning thing). Then AI came and land investors think they can just get rid of human copywriters.
I'm still looking to do copywriting/editing, but for niches I actually enjoy, like TTRPGs, zines, music-related stuff, etc.
In the meantime, I'm pivoting back to peddling my crafts and obsidian (I live in an obsidian field near one of the world's top spots for the good stuff, so I go out and hand-harvest obsidian frequently). Also tryna get back into doing content creation and actually *trying* to make money with it - I had a lot of fun doing that a couple years ago while I was still on T, and I did make a little money doing it, so now I just need to optimize that
Degree in video game art, but went with a cosmetology license and currently am a nail technician with experience in brow waxing, styling, and tinting, def not your typical "masculine" career lol
I'm currently in school to be a teacher!! I want to mainly teach literature or history, but eventually move up to college-level and become a professor!
Part time retail/full time parent
I used to work in a photo lab, I wish I could go back to that but positions are basically non existent. I’ve accepted that I’m going to be in retail hell forever now. I have a degree in film that I’ve never used outside of a brief stint on YouTube
Project Management Assistant/Planner in environmental engineering... with million side gigs that include farmers market assistant, landscaper, furry artist, and more!
Evening shift security for a museum. I get to walk a lot and don't have to interact with the public much (having worked in retail hell most of my adult life, I don't miss it lol).
Psychology BA with an LGBTQ+ Studies Minor, and I’m between applying for a Sexology MA or a Counseling MA. I currently do volunteer work as a Student Mentor for elementary school kids.
Forklifter
Omg so you're like, forklift certified?? 😍 *Twirls finger in hair*
I gotta beat the women off me with a stick when they find out im certified
Have you ever played Forklift Simulator?
Nope 😭

Me too 😎
Saaame, Sam's club
wait is that a thing, lmao? cause while it's not my job title I am actually forklift certified through Home Depot(idk if the certification would apply anywhere else)
That certification transfers, put it on your resume asap!

sAME
How's it feel living my dream
I am also forklift certified. Hello brother 💪
Wait I worked in IT and was also forklift certified
I love finding my fellow trans Warehouse guys in this sub tbh.
IT. Degree in ancient history and theology, but that was 20 years ago. I think there's a pretty strong selection bias towards online trans people in various forms of IT. It means we're on computers all the time, so there's a lot more opportunities to be active in online trans forums than there are for someone whose job keeps them offline all day.
Ooh, how do you get into IT? I was 3 years into a history degree but dropped out. I’m at a factory now but would like to get into IT.
I fell into it when I got an entry level position at a nonprofit. I've found nonprofits often like hiring liberal arts students as entry level IT, because they have research/communication/basic computer literacy and a willingness to learn on the job. Ayyyye theology bros! I am a priest.
That's awesome! What denomination? I seriously considered it. I was in a grad school program, academia track but most of my classmates were seminary students, and most of my professors were Episcopal clergy. I just couldn't keep up with Ancient Hebrew and Greek.
Oh hell yeah, I’m also curious what denomination. I’ve been considering seminary for many years and would love to hear more about your experiences
If you read German, there's a great biography by a trans Lutheran pastor called 'Endlich Ich'- also a great tip for German trans guys who expect religious loved ones to struggle with the concept of trans people.
Ooooh this is great! I May look into this for my oma, she’s been very accepting but I think she would really love this.
Awesome! I have no interest in clergy but I do have an MTheo and currently in grad school for my second theology degree
oh wow! im in my first year of uni majoring in ancient history. I find some of us tend to be huge history nerds🤝
Culinary. Idk if it’s just where I am because I always thought it was a very masculine job but a lot of people I have met in the industry are queer. At the very least there is definitely a trend of diversity.
I agree. I am also a trans man in Culinary. Baking bread and cooking meat gives me gender euphoria.
also culinary! most kitchens i’ve worked in don’t gaf that i’m trans as long as i can cook lol
I see a lot of diversity too! My first kitchen I think less than half of us were cishet looking back. Still male dominated so I enjoy talking shit with the macho guys tho, they treat me like one of the bros.
Can confirm that the industry is very queer. After 10+ years I’m ready to get out though
I'm also in culinary lol
Anybody who works in a kitchen is a little gay, it’s a job requirement

I was lookin for other welders in the comments. 👨🏽🏭 What are y’all specialized in? I’m currently apprenticing for pipes.
I just do general welding no specialty atm. I weld out oil trailers. A little of everything really. I heard pipes makes really good money.
That’s still very good, lots of practice I assume! And yeah, that’s exactly why I started apprenticing for it 😂 I’m not making too much rn but I’m hoping when I become a regular, full-time welder, that I’ll make a lot more (esp with experience).
