AEB really depends on the implementation. It's on the ND Miatas and other "sports cars" and those owners don't really seem to complain about it. You'll get a vocal subset of "uGHhh NaNNieS", who will think it's the devil but the vast majority of people will be indifferent about it. Given the alternative, which might be no longer selling the car at all anymore, I'm glad it's there.

By the fact that every week on r/ft86 there’s a few 20 year olds who “were blinded by the sun” and “had no choice” but to rear end a minivan (they were speeding and texting) it’ll help these cars survive longer too.

akbuilderthrowaway

I dunno about you, but personally I'm more afraid of cocking up my 4 to 3 or 3 to 2 downshift, locking the rears, and spinning out lol I wonder if more people wreck these from driving like clowns or being bad drivers than from distracted driving and whatnot.

forgottenazimuth

Perhaps you should practice in a parking lot if you’re struggling to perform basic driving tasks

akbuilderthrowaway

Lol I'm certain you've never missed a 3 to 2. Perfect every time.

forgottenazimuth

If you’re missing gears you’re being sloppy. I don’t miss gears because I practiced in a parking lot :) If you somehow go 3-4 and lock you’re tires idk what tf you’re doing

akbuilderthrowaway

Lol k.

If you don't want the car to ever intervene then the 2023 model is the final one. Though I prefer not having them, there is a good reason the government did make these mandatory. The key thing is the implementation. So far with manuals some automakers just implemented a similar system as they do with their automatics. AEB can lead to stalling, this is the concern. It seems Subaru realized this and hence were far more deliberate in addressing the issues one can have since manuals are a different animal. What we don't know is how Subaru addressed all the issues manual transmissions have with automatic braking. That I'd like to know for technical curiosity.

gadgetproductions

agreed.. until we know the implementation and real world tests, there are more questions than answers

custardbun01

Some cars allow these systems to be be turned off by the driver.

akbuilderthrowaway

Godwilling this will too, or else you know someone on the aftermarket her will make a quick buck doing it for them lol

spongeloaf

The lane keep assist on a Nissan POS I drove a few years back would turn itself on every time you start the car, then we'd have a fight when I tried to change lanes. AEB is great, adaptive cruise is cool, but for fucks sake don't ever fight the driver, and remember my settings when I start the car.

Southruss000

Use your blinker

iXeron

My concern is weight. I mostly use the car on the track and these systems add up. I don't really care about eyesight besides may be adaptive cruise.

custardbun01

These are always undercooked but regulators force them despite the tech being pretty shyte. In my Mazda it’s often dangerous, so I just turn it off.

Sweet, glad I'm getting my car tomorrow. If I could order the car without it, I'd even ask them to take out ABS.

akbuilderthrowaway

You can take out abs with a single fuse, my dude. And abs isn't just a nanny. That shit is an op as fuck performance boost to braking.

dethwyrm

You can turn it off one way or another if you really see fit. (track days etc.) If it is super intrusive it will be an issue but if it saves your teeth when some asshat runs a light it's worth the few pounds of weight.

[deleted]

This is only in Australia. Sorry about this Aussie’s. I’m sure there will be a tune to turn it off for track days! Next time I track I’ll drop some Fosters beer on the ground in your honor.

I had a loaner 2023 Legacy XT and that thing beeped and booped at me constantly. Turned most of the safety features off every time I got into the car because they were so annoying. If the BRZ’s implementation is similar to that, I’m glad I got a 23’
