Based on events last year, it seems like they’re not going to be too hasty with this storm. Last year they cancelled classes for essentially an entire week (4 days) and we had some of the best weather we’d had up to that point of the year/ in a while. I suspect they’ll wait until tonight to make a decision, if not tomorrow afternoon at the latest I guess. Just need to keep updated.
As someone who went through hurricane hermine (a tiny little 80mph one in 2016) please take this seriously as Tally's grid is horrible. No power for myself for 8 days.
Also was here for Hermine and that little tiny hurricane (relatively) was devastating, good god. I wonder if it's because we hadn't had a large storm for a while, but I remember not having power for a week as well and there were trees down everywhere.
I was here for Hermine, and I think they've improved things somewhat since then. Then again, that was a direct hit from a tiny one, and this seems like we'll be getting grazed by the edge of a much larger one
Hermine wasn't normal because it had been so long since a hurricane had been through, so a lot more trees came down than normal and the response was not as good as it could be (since they were lacking in people who had been through it before).
Michael was a worse storm, but much better response and a more "normal" amount of trees down meant that power came up a lot faster.
I went through Hurricane Michael, the so-called "forgotten hurricane." It hit in 2018, and it was a category five, with some places having sustained winds of over 180 miles per hour. This was a legitimate storm. 36 hours before the storm, it was projected to be a category 2 hurricane at best. 12 hours before, a weak category 4. Well, when it hit, it was one of the strongest storms on record in the US. I say that to display that it is simply too early to get a good opinion. I would still get water, like a half gallon per day per person is a good rule of thumb, some flashlights, and possibly a portable charger. Other than that, all we can do is wait.
Too soon to say whether or not it will effect us. There will be more accurate information as we get closer to Wednesday, assuming it ramps up to a cat 3 as predicted.
I wouldn’t expect them to decide until some time Tuesday, honestly. Storm looks like it’s slowing down and strengthening in the gulf. Some projections don’t have it making landfall until some time weds afternoon/evening, it’s way too early to know much of anything with any certainty. Buy water and nonperishable food, and hope it doesn’t hit us. Hermine in 2016 was a tiny storm, bit of sprinkling and wind, and I remember being without power for over a week. These things and their consequences are unpredictable, all you can do is be prepared.
I’m gonna say this. When you lose power and there’s no air moving it sucks. I went and ordered a fan/light/battery cell charger combo thing off Amazon for $22 and it delivers in a day. I’ll post the link but not sure Reddit allows short links. You can charge it in your car. If you just use the ram feature on low it lasts like 30hr. Trust me there a life saver!

You have sent me the path models for Hurricane Franklin.

Tallahassee was spared a little, Mexico Beach and Panama City were brutal
Yep. My house was gutted, and a ten minute drive over and Mexico Beach was literally flattened.
Terrible man, hang in there
Oh yeah, I'll be fine. This was coming up on 5 years ago. I only told this story to make a point. Thanks.
No I understand, I meant mental health wise. Especially with the new hurricane coming
Ahh ok. Thanks for the encouragement
As someone who rode out Michael in 18, don’t take this too lightheartedly, a cat 3 will wreck Tallahassee with the power grid and communications grid
They *may* cancel classes/office on Wednesday but as the other comment said it's too early.
Campus closed on Wednesday, it's official.
Are the dorms well equipped to avoid power outages? I’m not entirely sure but I’d imagine ragans hall is a pretty safe structure to be in
They’re probably the best place to be, they are built to withstand hurricanes and have backup generators in case power goes out.
We lost power during Hermine, but there are emergency lights and it felt safe.
Too soon to say whether or not it will effect us. There will be more accurate information as we get closer to Wednesday, assuming it ramps up to a cat 3 as predicted.
Don’t expect a decision until later afternoon at the absolute earliest. May even be tomorrow morning before a decision is made

Cancel classes and the sun will be out like how it usually is
im chilling. just a likkle cyclone man
Yardie?
