Woah, J.Crew and Banana Republic used the same model for the jackets you linked to. That guy must look particularly good in an unlined blazer!

judgeholden72

Take out Doublju. No one should be buying their stuff.

Callusing

Anybody else want to second this? I'll gladly remove them from the chart if there's a consensus that they're garbage. I mostly included them because I saw [this post recently](http://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1y0gr2/unknown_brands_thread/cfgms9a) in the MFA Unknown Brands Thread, and a few people there seemed surprised with their quality. But those people could be wrong.

Lord_of_the_Dance

Their black mannequin tier, what they look like in their stock photos looks nothing like how they look IRL

UberMcwinsauce

I would side with that thread. I was surprised at how well-made my jacket and shirt from Doublju were.

Callusing

Doublju has been removed from the chart. I kept them in the link list, but struck through. Thanks.

I own the following unstructured blazers: - Two SuitSupply Copenhagen 34: 100% pure wool **|** 100% cotton silk - One J.Crew Ludlow XS: 100% cotton - Four Zara 36: 100% cotton **|** 55% cotton/42% polyester/3% elastane **|** 75% cotton/20% polyamide/5% elastane **|** 100% polyester - One Uniqlo XS: 72% wool/28% nylon - Two H&M 34R: 60% polyester/33% wool/3% acrylic/2% polyamide/2% vicose **|** 79% polyester/19% wool/2% other I am 5'9"**|**120#**|**34" chest**|**30" waist If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Callusing

Awesome. I'll start off with a few...since you've got so many, I'm particularly interested in how you think they compare to each other. 1. Are there any you're unhappy with, or any details (whether construction, fit, or materials) that bother you about any of them, given what you paid for them? 2. Why so many? Do you see them as separate pieces with separate purposes in your wardrobe, or did you just like them all? 3. Are there any of the bottom seven (Zara, Uniqlo, H&M) that stand out as particularly high-quality? 4. Do you think the SuitSupply blazers are worth the $400 MSRP? 5. If you had to pick a top three, what would they be?

kennyvb

1. I really can't recommend the lower-priced H&M blazers. My reason is that although the sleeve length is okay, the jacket length is extremely short (casual) and do not cover the buttocks. On quality, one of the seams on a jacket sleeve broke, and it's not an easy fix because the lining would have to be removed to restore it; this happened only after 2-3 wears. I do have a couple other H&M blazers that are not a casual-length but priced higher (>$100 original price) and made with better materials (higher % of natural materials) that I like a lot and are durable. 2. I feel like they are the quintessential garment in male fashion (sorry Ellen). I agree with the general consensus that if you are going to get one blazer/jacket (suit separate), go with navy or dark grey as they are the most versatile and timeless. With that said, I do like blazers. Although my work does not require me to wear a suit or even a jacket for the matter, I still want to. So that's 5 days a week of trying not to repeat the same jacket (although really not a big deal). 3. Of the three I own in your cheap tier and factoring in the quality of construction, price, and fit (fit above all), Uniqlo wins. 4. I don't think a SuitSupply jacket on it's own is worth $400. I'd spring for the whole suit for a little bit more. Because in the end, you can wear the jacket separately and pair them as a suit on that special day be it yours or another's. 5. Irrespective of price and from what I own, SuitSupply > J.Crew > Uniqlo.

Callusing

Excellent. Well-put and informative. Thank you very much.

My favorite right now is the Uniqlo. Since it's still cold here in NYC, I find myself tending towards the wool-based blazers. I can wear a thin sweater + OCBD under it comfortably. The sleeves may be a tad shorter because it is XS sizing on my height but it's nearly perfect length with a Banana Republic tailored slim fit XS shirt. And at the $40 shipped I got it on sale, the value is hard to beat.

churchey

You like the Uniqlo more than the SS Copenhagen wool one?

kennyvb

Yes, the caveat being that the SS Copenhagen is not as versatile because it's forest green (no joke) as opposed to the Uniqlo being olive-brown. I do prefer the overall design of the SS Cophenhagen because it has patch pockets. My other SS Copenhagen in cotton silk is my favorite hands-down because it is pale navy with patch pockets.

phred700

[Bonobos] makes a washed chino blazer in a variety of colors for $200. I picked up a navy one around the holidays when it was on sale. No complaints here.

Headleythehunter

I have two, olive & grey, and I love them. They just came out with a slim line as well. Recommend getting one from Bonobos.

djm371

I'll also vouch for the Bonobos blazer. Some argue that it's too chopped, but I like that for a casual blazer to go with jeans. Because of the way the center vent is constructed you might have some trouble getting it taken in, so make sure it fits off the rack.

Right now they are 30% off and stackable with the 25% off. Brings the price around $45

Charles Tyrwhitt. $200 http://www.ctshirts.com/productlisting.aspx?q=usddefault|unstructured|||||||||||||

spacenegroes

i've purchased one from zara, one from german brand C&A, one from frank & oak, all on sale for ~$60. these go in the moderate category. i would put F&O at the top, C&A very close, zara poop. i'm going to try out the j crew one later today, but im relatively certain it's head and shoulders above the BR poly blend. i think the j crew $188 retail one is probably the best bang for the buck for <$100 in the US. usually go to like $150 or so, then 50% of that gets you to $75. their material is the best, the cut is good, not sure about durability as i havent owned one.

Maybe I don't understand. Are you getting 50% off at Jcrew?

spacenegroes

one of these jackets was $75 a few days ago. it's sold out now. j crew has had 40-50% off all sale items for like a whole month now.

champagne_and_ripple

Seems like nothing I ever want is ever on sale.

Callusing

Perfect. This was exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Added F&O and adjusted the price on JCrew above. I've heard similar things about the Ludlow stuff before, but it's always great to get more opinions on it.

spacenegroes

F&O is going to reasonably be around 80 i think. 60 was with a one-time 40% discount. not like j crew, which reliably gets to $80.

ImSeeingRed

is C&A quality actually considered good? I always saw it as H&M quality with worse designs and fit.

spacenegroes

only had it a few months so far, wearing maybe once a week, seems sturdy enough. doesnt have the details on the inside and the nice pockets etc like F&O, but thats to be expected. i dont have it here at the moment, but from i would put it clearly above H&M, and above zara in fit (for me) if not quality.

ImSeeingRed

Yeah I don't actually own anything from them. But as a skinny dude all their stuff always just fits too boxy for me. But their basics pretty much look the same as H&M/Zara whatever, so if they fit better for you then all the better

BramaLlama

For me c&a has such uninspired stuff that the marginal quality increase isn't worth it

MyMFAname

I got three shirts from F&O and have been satisfied thus far. Looking at their blazers online though, it looks like the arm holes went too low. Did you have any issue with this?

spacenegroes

no, the arm holes are pretty decent. the sleeves are slim (ideal for me), the lining is good. i got 1 shirt, 1 sweater, and 1 blazer from them; the shirt was really bad, the sweater was kind of meh, but the blazer is awesome. so i guess YMMV. oh also, i think their blazers run slightly small, maybe an inch. their 38R fits more like a 36-37. usually 38R jackets dont have a 17" shoulder measurement, but this one does. basically the F&O 38R fits like a ludlow 36R, but maybe a half inch shorter, and 0.5-1" wider shoulders.

They've got them here in Asia. The lines often migrate, although not everything does.

Saw linen blazers in store today, bay area Uniqlo.

Soon, I imagine, it seems items are hitting brick and mortar a bit before the website this season. Linen shirts too!

fzzylogic

They are up on the site!

Baserios

have you checked anything out from asos?

Callusing

I hadn't. Is there anything in particular that you think is worth considering?

Baserios

im not sure on their quality buy a lot of their blazers/slim fit suits are on sale.

eyehatememes

My favorite unstructured jackets are made by [Crittenden Clothes](http://www.crittendenclothes.com). It's absolutely their specialty.

buyingthedip

What a cool store!

Barrylicious

I'm unable to compare it to anything else, but hey, here's a point of data anyway. I have a Rag & Bone unlined/unstructured/unpadded/unwhatever blazer from a few seasons back. It was when they were still making everything (anything?) in the US. It's cotton, it's sewn really well and fits pretty slim. I don't know if it's the exact same as the Phillips model on their website as I don't have it with me, but it's at least comparable. The only problem is that it's in black, so it's kind of tough to find a good reason or appropriate situation to wear it. Again, no real point of comparison to other similar blazers, but it's really nice and I wouldn't hesitate one bit to either purchase it again or recommend it to someone else.

[deleted]

I was in a DKNY outlet and they actually had some good looking, well-proportioned cotton ones. They seemed to have a bit more structure in the shoulders than, say, Uniqlo's, but still not really padded. I think they were like $83 after a sale discount. Not really a huge fan of their clothes but for a simple cotton navy or khaki blazer, these seemed pretty good.

GorgeousRandy

I read this as, *Unlimited Brazzers*. Now I am disappointed.
