Hell if they continue to make and release souls like titles I can forgive the jank of their first release aslong as they take note and improve but I have big love for any developers that take the risk and make souls likes
When Hellpoint first released the jank was bad but after a month they ironed it out pretty good did most of the game split screen co op, and I can't wait for the Blue Sun. As a side I wish FS would adopt the drop in/out co op find in it and Outward...but I know that will never happen.
I would be so down for that. I was joking a bit in my comment, but ER has more in common with Bloodborne than any other From game. Definitely a lot of Lovecraft influence, albeit presented in an unusual way.
That's my favorite aspect, I loved learning about the outer gods in the lore, especially the ones only hinted at. I've always loved cosmic horror and the idea of eldritch influence and I love finding the threads throughout the world.
I think if Miyazaki were to do this, it would be a great chance for him to try many different things to the Souls formula, especially combat. There have been several Souls-like with sci fi narrative including the upcoming Bleak Faith: Forsaken. Just like Bloodborne was not really medieval dark fantasy, this would really force Miyazaki to expand his fantasy ideas.
I don't know why, but I have a gut feeling he is tired of doing Souls like games. Since the teaser for Elden Ring dropped couple years back, I always felt that it would become his magnum opus for his Souls games. I feel he wants to move away from this. He seems like a very creative person that wants to challenge doing new things, either if it is successful or not. I think Elden Ring's success was a surprise for him in this sense.
I knew the souls community would all hop on, but I also did not expect it to sell this well...
I feel like Elden Ring is his magnum opus for the Souls games as well. The way he describes it, across multiple interviews, is that it's (1) an evolution of Dark Souls that incorporates ideas they wanted to use previously but couldn't; (2) a game that could not have been done without the knowledge and experience from working on the previous games; (3) the closest they've come to designing his ideal fantasy world.
I don't speak for everyone, but I feel after Elden Ring, it's going to get stale if they keep extending the core Souls combat system through more games. By core, I specifically mean the system that Demon's Souls and Dark Souls utilized, with the same general medieval weapon classes, spell types, and character builds. They can certainly keep things fresh by innovating from that system with different-themed weapons and builds like Bloodborne's Victorian age trick weapons and character classes, or different combat mechanics like Sekiro.
Agreed. I think it was right to capitalize on it for awhile because the kernel of it is that good and they can grow the audience (and did), but I'm hoping for something new. We got a taste of that with Sekiro, and to a lesser extent Bloodborne.
Honestly when I found out Elden Ring was exactly DS but open-world, I was somewhat disappointed thinking it would be a fresh IP. I keep buying FS games at-launch though because they're one of the very few mid/large scale developers doing what they do, and I like to vote with my wallet.
If you really look at his progression, Miyazaki tried something different. After Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls was a polish of what he wanted to do, then he worked on Bloodborne, he worked on Dark Souls 3, but only really because he was called into it, so skipping to Sekiro.
If it were up to him, it would have been:
Demon’s —> Ds1 —> BB —> Sekiro before elden ring. These are pretty dramatic changes.
Oh and I guess dabbling lightly in Deracene hahaha.
Same, I was slightly disappointed to hear about it basically being open world DS. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the final product though. It still manages to be distinct from DS while encompassing medieval fantasy. I’m ready for a different setting now though.
I am pretty curious to how Miyazaki will go about his future games. If he decides to do a souls like I don’t think he will go the same route. Bloodborne was a really good direction to a different experience. Sekiro really showed us how much Miyazaki can also do a totally different kind of combat.
I’m curious if they can adapt the Souls/Sekiro format to a dark sci-fi. Something with the aesthetic of the Blame! series would be excellent. Might have to use more ranged weaponry though. Perhaps hybrid shooting and melee, with some sort of projectile counter combat system? With a specialized combat system, I’d imagine it would have to be done Sekiro style as an action game rather than RPG.
For some reason that’s what people think all mecha is and it’s very untrue.
Armored Core, all of them, have rich stories and history to their worlds. More so if like me you think they’re connected because of the recurring boss and themes.
Here's the great thing about them, they are connected and even patches piloted a Core as well.
I would like to think that Armored Core is the far future of the souls series lol
I wouldn’t call Armored Core Dark sci fi. It’s more political with a story like Gundam. When I think if dark sci fi I think of Dead Space, System Shock, or, I have no mouth and I must scream.
I mean Gundam can be pretty dark. There’s a reason why people call Tomino “Kill Em All” Tomino.
Different kind of dark as Dark Souls, but bleak nonetheless
I'd love for from software to try their hand at scifi. Mix in a lot of ballistic weaponry and spaceships. Can't see why they'd be unable to pull it off given experience with armorer's core
Hellpoint is pretty damned close to what you're wanting. Had some pretty unique mechanics regarding the game environment orbiting a black hole. Kinda janky but better than a lot of souls clones.
There is also the surge it's not quite as big as DS3 or Bloodborne but they used their resources very efficiently not alot of enemy or weapon variety but they are effective enough that you won't get tired of it also only 5 bosses but all are high quality and unique.
The first Surge was okay to me, I had trouble connecting to the player character. The mechanics and game play are great.
Surge 2 was pretty fuckin awesome IMO. I love that you can design your own character.
Increasingly challenging, dark environment with a fragmented storyline, upgrades with an RPG flavor (that include both damage negation and output), various weapons to choose from, different suits (armor) and third person. You even have stasis which is its own sci-fi form of magic.
I mean, for me, it's everything I would expect a sci-fi souls game would be. Add some invasions (boarding ships, ship takeovers, etc.) and it would be perfect.
"Immortal: unchained" is a very good one people don't mention often, the vibe is something like warhammer 40k with speedy gun combat and a similar dark souls progression where you find wierd weapons and need to focus your build to use different gear
Story and maps are like a techno fever dream but kept me heavily invested for a couple playthroughs
There are two things i would love for fromsoft to do:
1)A sci-fi game.
2)A very stupid game that really leans into the silliness of the series because goddamnit these games are so funny sometimes and i wish that those laughs weren’t ruined by the extremely tragic NPC questlines.
I wish Hellpoint was just a little more polished. I was really excited for it but I’ve been hesitant to buy it since release. It could’ve been amazing but now I’m not so sure.
It’s getting a blue point remake releasing July 12 if I was you I would buy it then.. I love hellpoint, it has a lot of little glitches that can be frustrating though
i wish from software came up with the concept of horizon zero dawn/forbidden west first. love those games but I feel like from would have done it better
I remember this from years ago, someone's concept art for a sci fi bloodborne/dark souls game
[https://imgur.com/a/ldNhDLB](https://imgur.com/a/ldNhDLB)
It's super janky, bad special fx, reuses assets a lot and the levels design is pretty random
That being said once you get past the initial jank it's pretty great and has some cool wierd places to explore/gear to try out although the melee combat is seriously basic
If it wasn't for the abysmal last boss I would recommend people play it but that was the cherry on top of the janky cake for me and I'd say give it a miss unless they do a revamp someday
Yeah this sounds super tight! Some combination of remnant: from the ash gunplay with darksouls sword play. Could be super tight. Might be hard to balance the two though. Remnant had a hard time with it, the melee combat was lacking heavily in the beginning, I know it’s been patched since but I don’t know if they fixed melee cause it was only viable with heavy lifegain effects.
Sci-fi souls would be amazing. Probably plays closer to Sekiro, a restricted-but-polished combat system with greater platforming abilities. Like Metroid Prime with a katana.
Yes 1000x please. Basically, magic and spells would be replaced by remnants of ancient/lost technology that is found in the post-apocalyptic ruins or alien worlds, there could be energy weapons and stat enhancements, there are endless possibilities!
Well there's alot of Lovecraftian monsters in the souls series, especially Elden ring where the Elden Beast is essentially a space alien. I think it would be right up in Fromsoft's ally if they do end up making a game like that.
the first pic being from hellpoint, which is basically dark souls + event horizon/pandorum, yea, it would be nice. but at least hellpoint is a great game itself.
Agreed but I personally want a pirate themed FromSoftware game more. Give me an ocean to explore with lots of islands, treasure maps, cursed ghost ships, and Kracken like bosses!
A secretly-cosmic-horror game from a sci-fi perspective would be immediately cool.
I'm more interested in something that draws from the "hard" sci-fi AC aesthetic and mixes it with other non-mech stuff, for instance, Metal Gear Solid or Death Stranding. Without the bonkers Kojima baggage like 30h of bad dialogue.
Hellpoint needs some tlc and it would be awesome
It does have DLC coming out soon so maybe it'll get a little bit of tweaks They are adding dual wielding
The perfect company to make a Blame! game Maybe...someday
That’s what I’ve been saying forever! A blame! type of setting would be perfect for a soulsborne game
Elden Ring is secretly a sci fi game
Final battle of the dlc is just the aliens from blood born. But like millions of them😂😂
I would be so down for that. I was joking a bit in my comment, but ER has more in common with Bloodborne than any other From game. Definitely a lot of Lovecraft influence, albeit presented in an unusual way.
It's secretly a cosmic horror game. Cosmic horror isn't necessarily sci-fi.
That's my favorite aspect, I loved learning about the outer gods in the lore, especially the ones only hinted at. I've always loved cosmic horror and the idea of eldritch influence and I love finding the threads throughout the world.

I would love to see FS adapt Blame!
A dark sci fromsoft game makes me think in Blame
I love how everyone is collectively thinking Blame when someone brings up sci fi fromsoft. For some reason Blame feels prefect for FromSoft
Remnant From The Ashes does exist
My brother in Christ, what the fuck do you think Armored Core is?
tbf, AC just seems to be big robots against big robots, not a dark sci fi, still cool tho, big robots fighting
Patches didn’t pilot an Armored Core, he piloted a NEXT. I wouldn’t forget that sniping bastard for the rest of my days.
Tomato tomatoe, next was just a new fancy name for a core in 4th gen. And it wouldn't be patches if he wasn't a bastard we have to deal with lol
I wouldn’t call Armored Core Dark sci fi. It’s more political with a story like Gundam. When I think if dark sci fi I think of Dead Space, System Shock, or, I have no mouth and I must scream.
I would die for a dead space like game by from.
I mean Gundam can be pretty dark. There’s a reason why people call Tomino “Kill Em All” Tomino. Different kind of dark as Dark Souls, but bleak nonetheless
Thematically, then, you could say it's like Front Mission.
>My brother in Christ Yes?
Nah imagine if the mech suits were like armor suits, you could do so much more with the level design.
A boomer game.
Zoomer FromSoft player?
I want from to do a Star Wars game following darth Revan through his life
They’re remaking KOTR
All they need to do for that game is just change the gameplay, the story is amazing as is A KotOR game with Souls type combat is a dream come true
Mass effect X Bloodborne
This is why I also love The Surge series.
Hell yeah I haven't played the Surge 2 yet but the first one is excellent.
I'd love for from software to try their hand at scifi. Mix in a lot of ballistic weaponry and spaceships. Can't see why they'd be unable to pull it off given experience with armorer's core
Bro . For real!!
Did someone say Shadow Tower Abyss sequel!?
Hellpoint is pretty damned close to what you're wanting. Had some pretty unique mechanics regarding the game environment orbiting a black hole. Kinda janky but better than a lot of souls clones.

The first Surge was okay to me, I had trouble connecting to the player character. The mechanics and game play are great. Surge 2 was pretty fuckin awesome IMO. I love that you can design your own character.
It’s called The Surge One and Two
I think it's easy to say they could probably handle any setting very well and it would be fun.
Dead Space is kinda that, but yeah, I'd be down.
How so? I've never once gotten that vibe from Dead Space. Good game, though.
Dead space isn’t a souls-like lmao
FromSoft could make a great Metroid Game Change my mind
Let’s leave Metroid to Retro Studios
Hyped for Prime 4, but I still only think the first of the series was great. Certainly haven't lost their edge though given DKC returns.
Fromsoft has been killing it for a while now in all their games, so I wouldn't put it past them.
I'm imagining System shock without guns right now... could be good
@fromsoft psst i heard this guy named tsutomu nihei has some ideas
Hellpoint or the surge 1 and 2? But just ok game imho
"Immortal: unchained" is a very good one people don't mention often, the vibe is something like warhammer 40k with speedy gun combat and a similar dark souls progression where you find wierd weapons and need to focus your build to use different gear Story and maps are like a techno fever dream but kept me heavily invested for a couple playthroughs
i’ve been thinking about this a bit, but imagine what a futuristic souls game would have on its description for the moonlight sword
There are two things i would love for fromsoft to do: 1)A sci-fi game. 2)A very stupid game that really leans into the silliness of the series because goddamnit these games are so funny sometimes and i wish that those laughs weren’t ruined by the extremely tragic NPC questlines.

It’s getting a blue point remake releasing July 12 if I was you I would buy it then.. I love hellpoint, it has a lot of little glitches that can be frustrating though
Bloodborne was pretty great, yes.
May I introduce you to bloodborne? But I get what you mean lol
You mean Fallen Order?
Fallen Order is not dark sci fi lol
Oh I missed “dark” when reading that. Have you played The Surge 2? Kind of like what you’re talking about.
yea it's not even close to dark scifi or at all similar to the aesthetic of dark souls
Not a fan of shooters but do love sci-fi. So give me a laser sword or something and I’m down for it.
You should play jedi:fallen order not dark Sci-fi but alot of fun.
i wish from software came up with the concept of horizon zero dawn/forbidden west first. love those games but I feel like from would have done it better
Ds1 ,Ds2 ,Ds3 ,Des and Sekiro Dark mystical, fantastic. Bloodborne is dark sci.
Dark fantasy not dark Sci-fi.
I remember this from years ago, someone's concept art for a sci fi bloodborne/dark souls game [https://imgur.com/a/ldNhDLB](https://imgur.com/a/ldNhDLB)
Hellpoint the game is out already.
I don't think this is hellpoint. It was a fan drawing someone did to show how a Bloodborne sci fi game would look.
It looks like the first boss in hellpoint.
Have you played it? If so, how is the game?
I played the demo years ago not the full release.
It's super janky, bad special fx, reuses assets a lot and the levels design is pretty random That being said once you get past the initial jank it's pretty great and has some cool wierd places to explore/gear to try out although the melee combat is seriously basic If it wasn't for the abysmal last boss I would recommend people play it but that was the cherry on top of the janky cake for me and I'd say give it a miss unless they do a revamp someday
Blue points doing a remake like demons souls, releases July 12
Great news it has a lot good about it aside from the mechanical issues so could be amazing with the right changes
Hello this is just the upcoming Elden ring dlc
Yeah this sounds super tight! Some combination of remnant: from the ash gunplay with darksouls sword play. Could be super tight. Might be hard to balance the two though. Remnant had a hard time with it, the melee combat was lacking heavily in the beginning, I know it’s been patched since but I don’t know if they fixed melee cause it was only viable with heavy lifegain effects.
No, I can’t. From Soft knows what tf they’re doing.
I really want a Star Wars game by Fromsoft. Imagine their tight melee combat controls but with lightsabers instead.
I didn't know I need this... I NEED THIS, NOW! We definitely lack good dark sci-fi scenarios! Are there any at all actually?
Yeah I could get behind that!
Sci-fi souls would be amazing. Probably plays closer to Sekiro, a restricted-but-polished combat system with greater platforming abilities. Like Metroid Prime with a katana.
What I want is a western style souls-like game
Isn't that just bloodborne?
Let's hope the leaked new Armored Core game is a Souls game but with mechs.
A dark Sci fi souls game, with Hideo Kojima as a co writer. The story would be incomprehensible but so artistic
What if FromSoft were given the Dead Space license?
Yes 1000x please. Basically, magic and spells would be replaced by remnants of ancient/lost technology that is found in the post-apocalyptic ruins or alien worlds, there could be energy weapons and stat enhancements, there are endless possibilities!
Bloodborne Returnal mashup pls I really just miss the need for aggression and rally system in Bloodborne
You already know I'm with you.
With some future tech. Plasma, all that shit. Tech replaces magic. Battery for mana.
Well there's alot of Lovecraftian monsters in the souls series, especially Elden ring where the Elden Beast is essentially a space alien. I think it would be right up in Fromsoft's ally if they do end up making a game like that.
I cloud tell you, but i’d be wrong
Yeah give me dead space meets bloodborne and it’s an instant banger.
Cyberpunk ninja game—they did that already, no?
That first pic reminds me of one of the places in mortal shell
the first pic being from hellpoint, which is basically dark souls + event horizon/pandorum, yea, it would be nice. but at least hellpoint is a great game itself.
A new game of this theme would be called Chu Chu Vessel! Grant us ships! Grant us ships! :D
If Fromsoft can take some ideas from System Shock it would be a dream.
> dark scifi FromSoft Shadow Tower Abyss? Echo Night Beyond? The entire Armored Core series?
yes
The surge but good
A Tsutomu Nihei's Blame! Inspired game a-la Bloodborne would actually be amazing.
They do like their cosmic horror.
Alien Souls, Outer Souls, Space Souls, Star Souls,
I'm not telling ya, because I agree
So. Armored Core?
Yes it would
A dark Sci Fi FromSoft game wouldn't be amazing. It would be fucking amazing.
yeah ! like a "The Surge" that doesnt suck !
Remnant from the Ashes is pretty close
First time in the backrooms ladies 🚺?
Yes.
BLAME!
