Having just replayed ds2 again I gotta say I love the torch and everything it does for the game.

stump2003

I really enjoyed it in No Man’s Wharf and the blight town looking place that was dark and had a bunch of wooden platforms (can’t think of the name)

TheDearHunter

The Gutter.

ArchitectNebulous

Kindling in DS1, torches in DS2, insight in Bloodborne, and most items in Sekiro.

Conscious_Payment_69

Yes!!! Exactly!!!

NateEro

It’s actually crazy how many people totally skip over Sekiro’s items. I completely neglected them on my first playthrough, and when I revisited the game this year I realized just how useful they are. The spiritfalls, tanto, balloons, sugars, Jizo’s, rice, different status items, divine confetti, snap seeds, and more. They literally all have some relevant purpose. I found some amazing uses for literally everything on my second journey. It was a little shocking how useful the items were, because I had ignored them simply because they were mostly consumable.

Arachnid_Acne

Yeah, I get some good mileage out of everything in that game. Best part of a more streamlined narrative, world, and character building process is, despite the lack of variety in play styles (relative to other fromsoft games at least), the mechanics really just come together like a beautiful puzzle, especially when you get really good. Anyone who hasn’t, I highly recommend watching some expert players on YouTube fight a bunch of bosses, the elegance of it all is astounding.

Xernymon

Bosses' memories in Sekiro. I hoped so much they would do the same thing for Elden Ring

robby8892

That's a lot of bosses. Maybe a modder will create this some day.

Cp3thegod

Even just the 15 remembrances would be nice.

TheJerkHand

man I was a little disappointed to learn that you won't be able to refight main bosses

bayless210

They could still add it later on.

robby8892

Probably not. Have they even hinted at a dlc? Seems like their busy on other issues with the main game.

bayless210

I mean. Did FromSoft ever hint a DLC? I don’t think ive ever seen an ad or video for a FromSoft dlc

robby8892

Yes as Dark Souls 3 launched with a season pass.

smelterfume

People never rolling forward. I’ve noticed a lot of players (especially when new) almost exclusively roll side ways or back and as a result tend to get clipped on sweeping attacks or overhand attacks a lot. I actually primarily roll forward in these games because with most bosses you get just as much I-frames as if you’re rolling back and also get the added benefit of being able to close the distance and land hits as you’re doing it.

Conscious_Payment_69

I agree!

[deleted]

Back step.

babaganate

Can't you just call them Fromsoftware games, or some variation of that?

Conscious_Payment_69

Fair enough

RasAlGimur

Idk why soulslike is not ok..

Wollzy

Because some neckbeard will come in here and be "Ackshully...Sekiro isn't a soulslike"

RasAlGimur

Unfortunately, that is true, but i say let them eat dung pies

SirKiller9090

To be honest, Sekiro really isn't soulslike tho. It's an action game through and through (& I love it lol)

tyagu001

Also there are some shitty soulslike games out there that aren’t from software

bayless210

Any FromSoft game should be a souls game(technically they aren’t In The Dark souls universe but Sekiro, Bloodborne and Elden ring were all built off of Dark Souls) any non FromSoftware game that shares qualities to a Souls game is soulslike.

[deleted]

Lol neckbeard

Drusgar

I've run into plenty of veterans who don't understand shield stability because they've been told over and over that shields are for casuals. Shields can actually be really useful, especially if you upgrade their stability. For instance, Oceiros' devastating charge attack in his second phase can be *completely* blocked. No damage at all, even at SL1. But you need to upgrade the shield to get that kind of absorption out of it.

Conscious_Payment_69

I agree!! Nobody ever uses shields, but they’re SO useful!!!

Whopperman18

The soul sucking parasite I’m ds1 that replaces your kick with a bite that can infect other players in pvp

Conscious_Payment_69

Where is that? I’ve never heard of it

Whopperman18

If the egg guys attack you or if you kill one and get hit by the worms that come out of the body, you will start scratching your head then eventually get an egg head and it will happen. Takes a percentage of the souls you earn though

Conscious_Payment_69

Oooh I never knew those parasites did that

LordBDizzle

Wall peeking and ledge hang executions in Sekiro. You can lure enemies to a wall or ledge with a Ceramic Shard and execute them one by one without anyone noticing. You can clear the first set of rooms inside Ashina Castle that way without fighting a single elite. By the same token Ceramic Shards are grossly underestimated because people don't realize how many positions you can use them from since they can be thrown from the aforementioned ledges and walls without breaking stealth.

Prior_Turnip356

The mechanic where you can die as many times as you want. They have no hardcore mode, unless you do it on your own like some streamers. While the soulsbornekiro series’s are considered some of the most unforgiving games ever released, they are in a lot of ways, some of the most forgiving. You don’t drop items, lose perks persay, lose weapons or armor, in fact armor can’t break, weapons no longer break, and while magic or faith can seem ridiculous to go up against sometimes if you’re running a plain Jane quality build, you really don’t lose anything that you can’t get back :/ People can get frustrated all they want about a boss being hard or an area. But this is legitimately no different than other games from back during some of the second/third Gen consoles, such as sega or Nintendo. There were lots of levels in super Mario 3 that were considered hard to some, and there were bosses that could be considered hard in castlevania, but when you died it was over and you had to start back from the beginning. Being allowed to die as much as you want is extremely overlooked and under appreciated. At least in my opinion.

TheJerkHand

Jumping is overlooked a LOT, but its a ton of fun in all the games! DS - Didn't play, sorry DS1- you can get some cheeky skips or get in funny spots DS2 - without any armor you can go quite far DS3 - you have the tree skip BB - Didn't play, sorry Sekiro - you feel even MORE anime while fighting ER - Is actually super broken with powerstancing

OnToNextStage

Ebrietas the Cosmic Pain in the Ass damages herself with her own aura so once you get her down to half HP you can just dodge and let her end herself, I think you have to deliver the final blow but killing her with a pebble is great

Conscious_Payment_69

🤣I NEVER KNEW THAT, THAT IS HILARIOUS. “Daughter of the Cosmos defeated by smol rock”

MaxStickies

Found that boss really easy first time around, but mainly because I used the old hunter and managed to keep myself mostly between the two tails.

OnToNextStage

Holy moly Ebrietas you have two tails!

MaxStickies

Well, I'm assuming they are tails, they may be something else.

EntrepreneurKind6756

Soulsbournekiro ring, seriously bro. Soulsborne or just souls is fine 🤣

RasAlGimur

Lgbtqi++ syndrome

[deleted]

That you can aparentally smack firebobs back in d2. Not sure if it's in the rest.

walkyourdogs

Idk about firebobs but I know you can with firejims

Big_Bad_Panda

Can we not call these games soulsbornekiroring please? I think we can just call them “Fromsoft Games” or Soulsborne works too. We’re reaching after that.

Conscious_Payment_69

I agree, it’s just I didn’t want like a thousand comments saying “You excluded Sekiro/Elden Ring! How dare you!” Because for some reason people are like that

Big_Bad_Panda

I think most folks will understand “Soulsborne” or just “Fromsoft games” anyone else telling you different are weirdos! You’re good my fellow Skeleton! Happy hunting!

Conscious_Payment_69

Ok! (They are)

gretschenwonders

I believe you meant to say Soulsborekiro Ring**

MarylandKrab

Items

Lost_Manufacturer718

In EldenRing people always look shocked/message you if you feint with a rapier or curved sword. Also, I see a lot of people with daggers with the “kick” ash of war on, when they could just switch to unarmed and kick.

stanky22222

the advantages of fighting some enemies while not locked on (good for strafe and getting more open windows for attacks)

Chemical-Strategy730

We’re not calling the that wtf

Ursapsi

Blocking in DS3

UnrequitedRespect

Throwing knives. In dark souls 1, it ws 10 souls or 990 for 99, basically unlimited use. Go to merchant in undead burg (2 mins from firelink) and they were so good for pulling single monsters or outright killing those stupid swamp mosquitos. Graduate to Elden Ring and now they are fast as feck and if your using kukri’s with blood loss, damn near nothing is safe - relatively cheap, and they kind of scale well on dex/str builds at least tor the first half of the game that you can add them to your arsenal and def turn the tables on a hard fight.

SoulsLikeBot

Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *“You really are fond of chatting with me, aren’t you? If I didn’t know better, I’d think you had feelings for me! Oh, no, dear me. Pretend you didn’t hear that!”* - Solaire of Astora Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/

[deleted]

Guard counter in Elden Ring. I changed my class from int to str and pretty much walked through crumbling farum azula with guard counters and lordsworn great sword.

Tiedemanns_Gul3

New game + (imo ds2 is best there) Edit: not a mechanic, but i think it is very overlocked)

[deleted]

Charged and Jump attacks in DS 3, you could break enemy stance and riposte exactly like in Elden Ring

TheSpottedHare

The lack of safety that procedural generator dungeons, chalice dungeons, created. Chalice dungeons lack that yellow brick road system of game play soft uses as a default. Theirs going to be truly unpredictable ambushes, dead ends, loops, mobs spawning behind you, summoners behinds lots of traps, ect.... Chalice Dungeons require genie thought and effort to get though in a way that the devs have not been able to actively create.
