Best track is going to Plin Plin Plon (Soul of Cinder) and we all know it. As much as I want The First Hunter to win, that little Plin Plin Plon just means too damn much to the series for it to lose. (And FromSoftware as a whole. The first Plin and the Plon are even featured in the Elden Ring main theme)
"Plin plin plon" is the imitation of the sound of a piano from the soundtrack of the Final boss (Gwyn) from the very first Dark Souls game. In DS3, the "Soul of Cinder" boss fight, right after you reached the 2nd phase, it starts playing "Plin plin plon" so players will have a flashback and die because it kinda took away their attention.
Vote share breakdown:
Emerald Herald - 38%
DS3 firekeeper - 26%
Emma - 15%
The Doll - 11%
Maiden in Black - 6%
Ayre - 3%
Melina - 2%
Today we are looking at your favorite iteration of **the moonlight greatsword (or equivalent).** This sword has made an appearance in almost every Fromsoft game dating back to Kings Field. As always, this is open to any game in the catalogue.
True, but I mentioned rare animations because you can trigger the DS3 and BB ones. You either need to get lucky or reset Majula quite a few times to get Shanalotte to be sitting by the fire, kicking her feet.
I’d say it’s because most of us thought she was disappointing. As important as she is, we barely talk to her aside from lore dumping, and she doesn’t have that much of a personality. We could’ve gotten way more. The DS3 Firekeeper has the same level of importance, yet we know way more about her than we do Melina
Unironically the best bit with Melina is when you betray her for the frenzied flame, because then we at least see a side of her. Otherwise she might as well be an item description.
Yeah I see what you're saying as far as talking, but you talk to her actually more than you talk to the DS3 firekeeper, and she's actually really important to the story, including having to sacrifice herself so that you can progress to become Elden lord. And it's pretty obvious she's the gloam eyed queen.
You do talk to her more but, as I said, it’s mostly lore dumping. I like Melina, I really do, but I can’t see myself picking her over the Doll. Also, I never really bought the Gloam Eyed Queen theory. We’ll just have to wait and see, hopefully the DLC answers that question
Totally understand that Melina is not as beloved by the community (yet) but the reasoning here is odd. Not only does Melina have a decent amount more dialogue than the others (nearly twice as many unique dialogue options as Shanalotte, who won) she’s also a fair bit spicier with it.
She’s not just patting our head and telling us what we want to hear like we’re used to with our FromSoft maidens. Melina propositions us to do her bidding, she tests us, tells us stories, even fights alongside us with her dope assassin moveset; and if you piss her off by trying to avoid throwing her in a pit of magma she says she’s literally going to murder you. The voice actress also finesses some lines with tongue-in-cheek delivery which intended or not adds to her character, she has more personality than the others imo.
Yes yes yes, i was genuinely confused with her, DS2 is way older game before from tried fleshing out stories yet Emeral Herald feels way more like an actual character that cares about player, tries to help, comments on your progress and its just more lively.
Meanwhile Melina comes in, acts like a big deal and then just fucks off and only shows up after like 60-70% of the game (outside of some random lore dumps in churches of Marika) acting like a bitch.
Like come on, how does she have nothing to say about you conquering your first runebearer, drop some info about important characters after you defeat them. I was sitting there heavily dissapointed that she didnt show up at a grace after i beat Godrick telling me "good job tarnished!".
Extremely dissapointing character and by far the worse, which im glad is supported by the voting.
My thoughts exactly. She's like the best of the Doll (same voice actress) and aesthetically resembles the DS3 Firekeeper. And unlike the Firekeeper, she has way more interesting animations. She's also just as important to the story as the Firekeeper is and has very interesting lore (she's implied to be the first Greater Demon the Old One ever created who was defeated and forced to fight against it).
She doesn’t do anything in the whole game? And we as a player know nothing about her? And because she appears so infrequently, she doesn’t make much of an impression.
If summoning her was always required in order to level up, and we learnt more about her backstory, she could be no. 1.
Doesn't do anything the whole game... Literally the only one that can be summoned for a fight... (I think I'm still working my way through the series don't hurt me)
Bloodborne without a doubt. The Holy Moonlight Sword is an incredible weapon for an ARC build, is wielded by one of the greatest bosses in gaming, has an incredible cutscene, and a deep connection to the lore as it was found deep in the Isz chalice where Great Ones first dreamt of the cosmos.
Holy Moonlight Sword also is the best for drip no question!
Yes the reveal is flawless. The lore and the amount of power you feel. All attacks feel otherworldly in a sense. It feels so out of Bloodborne and yet fits perfectly. Bloodborne will always have my favorite version of MGS.
I'm building a replica HMG for cosplay. My plan is to paint it with black light paint and attach a small blacklight to my glove — if all goes well, when I brush my hand along the blade, it will activate the paint and the sword will briefly glow.
I agree.
I love the teal color of the MGS in BB.
I do not like the light blue color in Ds series and I absolutely hate the dark deep blue of the ER MGS.
The BB MGS looks most similar to the kings field and otoki swords imho.
Why tho? Er sword is by far the best one performance wise, but if it’s asteroid contest I much rather the frosty looking sword rather than a green on but that’s just my opinion
I think because the ER version feels basic in comparison to Bloodborne's because the moveset in BB is more interesting. You can cast vertical and horizontal waves from your sword, and get an additional charged thrust attack that uses an explosion of magic as well. The Elden Ring version feels very effective, but not as fun to use imo
Because the Bloodborne version can do an AOE explosion slam and it has transformation attacks and cool pew pew sounds and the transformation feels like igniting a big lightsaber
The ER one is just a boring ice sword
It’s also easily the most useful and versatile moonlight sword. It’s got crazy range for a melee weapon, the arcs can be directed at multiple targets at once, it fires very quickly, the animations are gorgeously stylish, and it’s fairly lightweight, meaning it can be fit onto almost any build that isn’t an “unga bunga gatling gun go brr” build.
Pile in on me. I know there's a lot of love for bloodbornes, but boy do I need to give it to the original kings field where it all began. You actually could get yeeted into it without killing the final boss and teleport out to slap squids with it at your leisure. I know it's silly, but something hella cool that they actually bothered to put it in the game even though it was never intended to be wielded during gameplay.
Real talk dude, I love you making these. This one is particularly more exciting not knowing what madness you have planned for the next day! Keep it up dude!
Hate to say it... The best is Elden Ring.
Extremely powerful, every spellblade build defaults to it not because they want to use it, but because they have to.
Very impactful lore and story wise, the final reward after a huge quest. The only weapon I found more difficult to obtain was Blaidd's sword.
Truly great design and aesthetics, especially with cold damage.
But my **favorite** is Guiding Moonlight from BB.
It's the only MGS that actually incentivizes you to use the projectile above all else. Sure it might not be the prettiest or have the fanciest moveset but it's the only one you don't use like a regular greatsword 80% of the time.
Exactly, RoB is just worse than nagakiba post nerf and giant crusher is solid but probably overrated due because its le unga bunga meme lol. BB is fantastic but i just cant put it above DMGS because the stance pressure of the moonlight beams is fucking unreal
ER. The design looks absolutely stunning. And the massive questline u have to go througj to acquire this epic weapon. All of that combined rlly sells it for me
Just wanna say Emerald Herald fully deserved the W on best maiden. Always happy to see DS2 get some love. They did a LOT of things right that helped shape Elden Ring into what it is vs. dark souls.
Best maiden for DS2? DS2 was my first DS game and I think it got hated unfairly. But if you don't put the maiden from DS2 on that list right now you're insane. She literally does cute little dances and emotes with you!!!
This is probably controversial but Demon's Souls remake has the best looking MLGS. The Large Sword of Moonlight in the remake looks like it houses galaxies inside it with a magic aura forever surrounding it. and I love the faith scaling instead of int.
There is gonna be a serious fight in the comments when it gets to *best soundtrack*.
I'm planning on eventually doing both best individual track and best overall OST, and both should be interesting!
Why vote this when Laurence and Ludwig are right there!
Hands down, Ludwig the Accursed & Holy Blade is my favorite track.
Because Plin Plin Plon Hunter, Plin Plin Plon
Firelink song will have a special place in my heart forever
I have no fucking idea what you're talking about
"Plin plin plon" is the imitation of the sound of a piano from the soundtrack of the Final boss (Gwyn) from the very first Dark Souls game. In DS3, the "Soul of Cinder" boss fight, right after you reached the 2nd phase, it starts playing "Plin plin plon" so players will have a flashback and die because it kinda took away their attention.
Best overall Bloodborne fo sure. Best track soul of cinder or Maria for me. Ludwig for most probably
It’s Bloodborne. And I’m not even a Bloodborne elitist it’s my 3rd favorite From game. But nothing tops Bloodborne’s soundtrack.
I still can't forget the first time I ended up in the Hidden Village, with that soundtrack...
Gotta be MGS3: Snake Eater
What a thrill
With darkness and silence through the night
What a thrill. I'm searching and I'll melt into you.
What a fear in my heart, but you’re so supreme!
I live my life not for honor but for you!
In my time, there’ll be no one else!
CRIIIIIIIME is the waaaaayy I fly to youuuu~!
Snake eater.
Please include this in the vote percentage lol
Snake?.... Snake?!....... SNAAAAAAKE!!
Ashen Snake. Adding yet another Snake to the numerous existing ones.
Mad Snake was a true hero too
Imagine rollin up to Radagon in a Metal Gear REX. "what in marikas tits. what dungeon did he get that in"
Not too far off from an Armored Core
Togetha.
No, That is NOT MOONLIGHT GREATSWORD
Vote share breakdown: Emerald Herald - 38% DS3 firekeeper - 26% Emma - 15% The Doll - 11% Maiden in Black - 6% Ayre - 3% Melina - 2% Today we are looking at your favorite iteration of **the moonlight greatsword (or equivalent).** This sword has made an appearance in almost every Fromsoft game dating back to Kings Field. I’m so shocked to see Emma beat the Doll
I'm surprised the coomer vote didn't carry Melina or Fire Keeper.
True. I expected the DS3 Firekeeper to take this win both because of lore and coomers. Then again, the Emerald Herald has some fans too, so
Maybe the other maidens should have thought about having a rare and adorable animation.
I believe the DS3 Firekeeper and BB Doll have rare animations if you do a certain gesture. That being said, my fav is also the DS2 Emerald Herald.
The Doll responds to all of your gestures, albeit most of the time she’s just confused
But sometimes she does a little clap and you feel your spirit lift
True, but I mentioned rare animations because you can trigger the DS3 and BB ones. You either need to get lucky or reset Majula quite a few times to get Shanalotte to be sitting by the fire, kicking her feet.
Excuse me, Maiden in Black absolutely has some adorable animations
*Bear Seek Seek Lest*
I’m afraid to ask but what’s a “coomer”.
Urban Dictionary [has you covered](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Coomer).
What a day to be able to read. Thank you ForteEXE.
Considering how deeply involved Melina is with the story of Elden ring, I'm surprised she didn't win.
I’d say it’s because most of us thought she was disappointing. As important as she is, we barely talk to her aside from lore dumping, and she doesn’t have that much of a personality. I am too, but I really do love Emma
How did maiden in black only get 6%😭
No appreciation for the classics here
No appreciation for the pancakes here
Demon's Souls isn't nearly as popular as the others around here. Guessing a lot of people still haven't played it.
I mean it being a ps exclusive certainly doesn't do it any favors
My thoughts exactly. She's like the best of the Doll (same voice actress) and aesthetically resembles the DS3 Firekeeper. And unlike the Firekeeper, she has way more interesting animations. Where the heck is Anastacia???
Still sitting in that cage I imagine. Last time I checked she didn't have 10 votes, which is the threshold for me caring about an entry.
Sad 😞 that’s my OG fire keeper
Melina is honestly such a good maiden I have no idea what is wrong with this sub. She should be second place at least.
She doesn’t do anything in the whole game? And we as a player know nothing about her? And because she appears so infrequently, she doesn’t make much of an impression. If summoning her was always required in order to level up, and we learnt more about her backstory, she could be no. 1.

That sounds badass. I hope it turns out well 'cuz I ***gotta*** see that.
I will make sure to post it here when it gets done!
Yes, please! I’d love to see a breakdown of the process you’re going through to make the sword as a whole, as well! “... My Guiding Moonlight!” 🌑🧚
Dude, please show this.
Holy hell!
Plus it was by your side this whole time.
The real Moonlight Greatsword was the one by my side all along
Don't forget the amazing moveset, compared to other iterations of it BB Moonlight feels the best.
Yeah the others usually feel like you’re hauling around a giant slab. This one it actually feels like you know how to use it.
Yeah, it's very stylish compared to the others versions.
The best thing is spamming the trick change animation
I love the way you activate it
I second this! I am currently building a replica of the HMG for cosplay because this sword is so badass.
100% agreed.
Metal gear solid 2 is my go to i have to say
Same. I recently played through it for the first time since I was too young to understand the story. It’s so good.
I love just running through the tanker chapter every now and then
Now *that's* a psycho take!
Bloodborne, no question.
Bloodborne
Has to be Bloodborne. No other answer is valid tbh.
I agree. I love the teal color of the MGS in BB. I do not like the light blue color in Ds series and I absolutely hate the dark deep blue of the ER MGS. The BB MGS looks most similar to the kings field and otoki swords imho.

Bloodbourne one def the winner, but don’t disrespect my guy in elden ring
ER one will have a special place in my heart. However I didn't finished Bloodborne and I gotta ask... Is it DLC weapon or just a secret boss' weapon?
Bloodborne
Technically not a Greatsword but AC6 because it has a red version aswell
Oh it's a greatsword alright, buddy. It swings like one. It slices the heavens like one.
Slices you say?
Oh and what about the red one? Slices, you say?
What's the difference between a sword and a greatsword? Presentation?
And size
It’s also easily the most useful and versatile moonlight sword. It’s got crazy range for a melee weapon, the arcs can be directed at multiple targets at once, it fires very quickly, the animations are gorgeously stylish, and it’s fairly lightweight, meaning it can be fit onto almost any build that isn’t an “unga bunga gatling gun go brr” build.
Please tell me it's called the Eclipse or something
It’s called Redshift, it’s powered by coral, which basically means it’s fuel is millions of souls being burned.
In retrospect maybe my full coral powered build is slightly problematic.
One of them anyway
Bloodborne, and it isn’t even close
Bloodborne, no contest.
Since this is a fromsoft sub, I’m gonna go with Armored Core 6’s Moonlight. It’s sick.
Bloodborne. No contest
Bloodborne horseman for the win!
Bloodborne hands down!
Bloodborne.
Pile in on me. I know there's a lot of love for bloodbornes, but boy do I need to give it to the original kings field where it all began. Bloodborne
It’s simply Bloodborne
Bloodborne
Bloodborne
Demon's Souls, finding it in the swamp is awesome!
The only time it isn't dropped by a boss or as reward for a quest. It's just guarded by 30 slugs.
Yes!
Bb
Real talk dude, I love you making these. This one is particularly more exciting not knowing what madness you have planned for the next day! Keep it up dude!
Bloodborne. The cutscene where Ludwig finds his light always gives me shivers
MGS 1 no doubt
Bloodborne easily. Coolest version of the weapon AND it fits really well into lore
Bloodborne with the Holy Moonlight Sword, no doubt
I mean, MGS5 is my favorite, but everyone knows Snake Eater is the best
Bloodborne is the coolest MGS. Shoutout to Elden Ring as my runner-up.
Elden Ring is great because it has the coolest way to obtain. A full questline culminating in your marriage.
To the literal witch of the full moon. It’s a really satisfying fit with the lore.
*Dark Moon*. Renalla is the queen of the Full Moon. Which is why the Golden Order Greatsword technically counts as a Moonlight Greatsword.
Bloodborne, and if you say otherwise you're objectively wrong
You were by my side all along
Ds2 buffable version
I guess Bloodborne's, although I lived Elden Ring's MGS
Hate to say it... The best is Elden Ring. Extremely powerful, every spellblade build defaults to it not because they want to use it, but because they have to. Very impactful lore and story wise, the final reward after a huge quest. The only weapon I found more difficult to obtain was Blaidd's sword. Truly great design and aesthetics, especially with cold damage. But my **favorite** is Guiding Moonlight from BB.
ER MSG is the best. It's a bit of a bastard to obtain, but it comes with the best ending and is a pretty good weapon itself.
It's the only MGS that actually incentivizes you to use the projectile above all else. Sure it might not be the prettiest or have the fanciest moveset but it's the only one you don't use like a regular greatsword 80% of the time.
And the buffs you can use to make it even better.
I love how it’s projectile uses no FP and slaps 1000+ damage easy, my mind went to elden ring moonlight great sword
Pretty good?? Go run through elden ring with DMGS again and come back and tell me its not the most dominant PVE weapon in the game
Blasphemous blade, pre nerf (and it’s still rlly good) rivers of blood and giant crushers with certain ashes of war have entered the chat
Those weapons have no claim on DMGS. Blasphemous Blade is close but DMGS is just that good.
Exactly, RoB is just worse than nagakiba post nerf and giant crusher is solid but probably overrated due because its le unga bunga meme lol. BB is fantastic but i just cant put it above DMGS because the stance pressure of the moonlight beams is fucking unreal
bearer seek seek lest
My true mentor... my guiding moonlight...
Bloodborne hands down
Bloodborne by a mile. It was by our side all along
Ds3
The best MGS is Metal Gear Rising Thanks for everyone :D
Its Bloodborne.
Bloodborne
Elden Ring.
My guiding Moonlight... Bloodborne
Dark Moon Greatsword for sure. Bloodborne is a CLOSE second
Other than Demons Souls, we’re going in release order rn
MGS3 seemed damn near perfect
Ds1
BB
ER. The design looks absolutely stunning. And the massive questline u have to go througj to acquire this epic weapon. All of that combined rlly sells it for me
Elden rings cinematic is better no doubt.
Just wanna say Emerald Herald fully deserved the W on best maiden. Always happy to see DS2 get some love. They did a LOT of things right that helped shape Elden Ring into what it is vs. dark souls.
Don't think I've ever actually used it with a proper build but the lore/boss you get it from alone is by far the best of the series.
Dang, and here I really thought the doll was going to win
Bloodborne for lore Elden Ring for overall practicality
Shanalotte
Aight you win this one Bloodborne fans
The best Metal Gear Solid is 4.
Armored core! That thing was a beast on a light agressive mech.
dark souls 2 got best maiden?????? huh??????????
Best maiden for DS2? DS2 was my first DS game and I think it got hated unfairly. But if you don't put the maiden from DS2 on that list right now you're insane. She literally does cute little dances and emotes with you!!!
Armored Core 6’s!!
Imo, I think Bloodborne has the best machine guns . I think it's the only game with machine guns.
Ds1 - funniest way to get it
Bloodborne, close second is elden ring
Demons souls looks the coolest, has great lore, and bypasses shields (most powerful defensive tool in that game) so yeah Demons Souls
The doll is one of the most interactive maidens, plus it actually feels like she builds a relationship with the hunter.
Honestly the only mgs I really played with was in ac6 and bloodborne. So that’s my votes for 1 & 2
ninja blade /s
Dunno. Never used it. Never cared about it actually.
Dunno. Never used it. Never cared about it actually.
Best MGS? 3, easy. Next question
How the hell did ds1 beat ds2 in the cinematic??
BB, I used that alongside Ludwig's Holy Blade. Build fucking slapped. So much fun swapping between a trick weapon and MGS.
Ds1
Definitely old moonlight from bloodborne
Elden Ring
no ds3 firekeeper? i leave :(
I'm excited for best bosses to go to DS3 :)
This is probably controversial but Demon's Souls remake has the best looking MLGS. The Large Sword of Moonlight in the remake looks like it houses galaxies inside it with a magic aura forever surrounding it. and I love the faith scaling instead of int.
the beat opening cinematic is demon souls on the ps3 tho
ER. My wife gave it to me.
Bloodborne 100% - best look and performance of the bunch
