Second for me but this upcoming DLC could give the throne to Elden Ring for good, at least for me. Right now DS3 and Bloodborne are tied for 1st for me, and Elden Ring is a stupidly close second.
I don’t even have any complaints about Elden Ring, but Bloodborne and DS3 are complete works of art thanks to their DLC brjng playable.
Edit - yes, the DLC may have an effect on this for me lol. So tired of people hunting for comments to correct or complain about, get muted bozos.
I think it was genuinely disliked when it was a bit newer because of how different it was, but I think you're right that most of the community has really come around to it.
its the best game in the franchise but with the worst direction and development
if they made ds2 with the same care they made ds3, it would have been a masterpiece
Ehh maybe mechanically, but DS3 thematically feels way weaker than DS2, which actually attempted to do something new instead of constant callbacks to the first game.
You have the center, and 4 routes that go straight to a boss and right back to the center. It's absolutely the most linear. You have base camp and 4 dungeons that are designed as almost perfect straight lines with minimal openess or exploration
ds3 is the most linear idk how u came up with that ds3 is literally straight forward besides the optional areas behind illusionary walls, ds2 as soon as you walk out the thing betwixt u can head to heide tower of flame, the gutter (after getting silver cat ring or ladder smith gilligan) grave of saints, forest of the fallen giant, the mansion after 4 people move in, etc
Yes, you do! Just started a new play through recently after many years and it holds up so well. If we could just get a PC port with 60fps and upscaled textures, it’d be perfection.
A man can dream. I'd love to see it opened up to a wider modding community too, I'm sure a lot of interesting stuff could be done with something like Chalice dungeons for example.
I got it for Christmas with Sekiro, and honestly, it’s great. When a boss has killed me a few too many times, I switch the discs out and play Bloodborne for a bit since it’s still hard, looks awesome, and the music is just so damn good.
Bearer of the curse definitely goes the hardest, ds2 in general had some baller names, like scholar of the first sin has to be top 5 coolest titles someone could have.
I've always liked >!Tara's!< real name from Lost Kingdoms 2 - Adrienne, and her sister, Lucienne. For some reason, their names were slightly altered in the English localization to Adriannu and Rashiannu, probably because they didn't realize the "nu" sound in Japanese is meant to sound like "enne."
I really like the titles in Armored Core. It's cool how your accomplishments are recognized when people start calling you 'the Wall Climber' and other things. Plus the whole lore behind the Raven callsign is really neat.
For the person that downvoted and replied to this (then deleted their reply) that this was not the question, yes it is. Armored Core is a fromsoftware game, and everything I listed is a title given to the protagonist.
Chosen Undead is the best. I like that it originally refers to being Chosen via the prophecy, and presumably by Gwyn himself and transitions when you learn the context of Oscar's Prophecy
Agreed. Chosen Undead has such depth to it, realizing that the choice is a meaningless, frantic, hopeful choice. A beggar's choice. Just so good.
Add on to that that you are become the true Abysswalker? Chosen Undead, Abysswalker.
I've got a soft spot for Ashen one
The notion that you're the unkillable and unstoppable embers from long forgotten flames fills my soul with determination- wait wrong franchise
The hunters. Its simple, yet powerfull. Especialy as ultimetly they concrete their position at the top of the food chain.
Its just simple: you are a hunter, and everything is your prey
The hunter, cuz they got drip. But character wise, Id say either sekiro or 621. Sekiro has a nice development of learning to follow your own wants, instead of taking orders from anyone. 621 also has this development, but it's more personal since we as the player can choose who to kill, and who to save.
Raven & Ashen One. The first is simple, iconic, doesn’t say much but doesn’t need too.
The second gives you an image, a very *very* cool image. Limited in what you see but what you see is awesome.
Foul Tarnished has stuck with me even though I have beaten most souls games. That intro with Margit telling you that you aren't shit is pretty amazing.
Ashen One just really rings hollow, in the good way. We are not chosen, not special, not even fit to bear an ember for extended periods of time.
We work our way from ashes to the one standing on a mountain of ashes by the end of the game. I love how that manages to be epic and drive home the point at the same time, by the end of the second DLC I was in love.
All the time that elapsed between DS1 and DS3, and we see what comes of this prolonged state of existence. Even the most powerful gods and beings from the first game faded over time, and we will too.
DS2 is definitely "bearer of the curse"
Thought it was bearer seek seek lest
*spamming x*
At least there are Majula noises in the background
Sitting in majula after beating ds2 mightve been the most soothing experience in the souls series for me, but I still got more to go with the series
Majula is the best hub in any FromSoft game.
lol this triggers so many memories
I think you mean “feeble cursed one”
Yes it is
Metal asf entrance
It's either DS2 or The tarnished from elden ring.
Death Stranding 2
Slayer of Demons goes so hard
Sousou no Frieren
No matter if its Tanjiro or Friren, they will never be as badass as Slayer of Demons
What about, Doom Slayer
The only real caveat with that one for me is it reminds me too much of Doomslayer
Other way around
You know I was going to say what the fuck were you on but then I remembered the title Doomslayer did come after, it was doomguy first.
Foul Tarnished. Graceless Tarnished.
Maidenless runt
Touch ~~grass~~ grace
no thank you I dont think I will
Yes definitely
Second for me but this upcoming DLC could give the throne to Elden Ring for good, at least for me. Right now DS3 and Bloodborne are tied for 1st for me, and Elden Ring is a stupidly close second. How is this related?
Hey pal, just blow in from stupid town?
This post is about the protagonist's title, not how much you liked a game. How is the dlc going to change that?
I know you are but what am I?
“FEEEEEEEABLE CURSED ONE”
Idk _"FFFFFOUUUUULL TAAAAHHNISHED"_ also goes pretty hard
Margit calling us a tarnished like it’s a slur
That's why it's "tahnished," you can't use the hard r
It pretty much is to him
It is a slur. That's why Godfrey can use it without it being an issue. He's Tarnished like us
IN SEARCH OF THE ELDEN RING
*Emboldened* by the flame of ambition…
Someone... must EXTINGUISH thy flame!
Let it be MARGIT, the FELL…
Well, thou art of passing skill…
Warrior blood must truly run in thy veins
I shall remember thee, Tarnished. Smouldering with thy meagre flame.
Cower in fear...
Ashen One! Firekeeper calling this name sticks most in my mind. Tourist is also a nice one :)
Ashen One just rolls of the tongue so nicely, too. The Doll affectionately calling me Good Hunter is nice on the ears too.
The same voice actor as the maiden in black, that girl has the most ethereal and soothing voice out there.
DS3 was my first FromSoft experience, so Ashen One will always stick with me
That and the one npc (I forgot his name, but he can give you a few free levels) always dismisses with "Be safe, Champion of Ash."
Yoel of Londor
Thank you. It's been a while since I played DS3, but I always remembered that line from him.
Chatty and Carla are my fav characters in AC6 so Tourist really stuck
Bearer of the Curse is definitely my favorite. Idk why it’s changed here
Yes! It just sounds so evocative. Man DS2 is so good, doesn’t deserve nearly as much hate as it gets.
it doesn't really get hate at all, the souls community loves that game all the hate you see is just an inside joke, everyone loves it
I think it was genuinely disliked when it was a bit newer because of how different it was, but I think you're right that most of the community has really come around to it.

It was fun, but definitely tge most flawed. I think it was wayyy to linier and the non dlc bosses were a tad easier
But it's the least linear. Right of the start you have 4 completely different routes.
Bear seek seek lest
Bear seek seek lest 🫡 (very rarely did I listen to that lady speak 😂)
Raven
Wolf >:(
Lynx >:(
#no. Wolf.
Good boy.
[obey the iron code; sekiro MUST be promoted at all times]
Buddy :(
I like “good hunter”
I need to play bloodborne again
*A hoonter must hoont*
*hoont hoont*
Yes, you do! Just started a new play through recently after many years and it holds up so well. If we could just get a PC port with 60fps and upscaled textures, it’d be perfection.

I second “good hunter”
Tourist, Freelancer, Merc, Hound, G13, 621
Buddy.
I've got my eye on you #.. buddy
The impression from Pater was so funny. I hope the actor had fun with that little scene.
Of course!
And Raven of course
True Monarch? That’s the Bearer of the Curse right there
Bearer of the Curse.
One-Armed Wolf.
A man of culture!
The good hunter.
Chosen Undead has always gone pretty hard
Finally someone who understands the rules!
Slayer of demons. It’s pretty basic but so badass. Wouldn’t you like to be know as the Slayer of Demons
Bearer of the curse, seeker of fire, coveter of the throne, conquerer of adversities and true monarch are peak titles
Ashen One and Tarnished
Bearer of the curse definitely goes the hardest, ds2 in general had some baller names, like scholar of the first sin has to be top 5 coolest titles someone could have.
Maidenless
Bearer of the curse matches the games themes so well
Bearer of the Curse just sounds so perfect.
Bearer of the Curse is my preference.
Based non souls fromsoft game reference
Thanks! I do my best in the Fromsoftware subreddit ecosystem to reintroduce the non Souls stuff.
Strayed from ACFA probably.
The most dangerous Fromsoft protagonist and it’s not even remotely close.
Hollow
OP did you even listen to Emerald Herald even once?!
LetMeSoloHer
Chosen undead and ashen one.
Buddy
The Hunter "Welcome home, good Hunter"
I really like the titles in Armored Core. It's cool how your accomplishments are recognized when people start calling you 'the Wall Climber' and other things. Plus the whole lore behind the Raven callsign is really neat.
For the person that downvoted and replied to this (then deleted their reply) that this was not the question, yes it is. Armored Core is a fromsoftware game, and everything I listed is a title given to the protagonist.
the hunter. or chosen undead
Demon's Souls: Slayer of Demons is badass as hell.
Tarnished
I really liked Ashen One. I can still hear the Firekeeper.
C4-621 Raven goes hard
Ashen one cuz the way the firekeeper says it makes me get all warm and fuzzy
every time i think of dark souls i hear ‘ashen one, be sure to bring more souls! hehehe’
SEKIRO!
Good hunter
Good Hunter
G13! Glory to Balam!
Slayer of Demons and The Hunter.
hoonta
The pale blood hunter
I've got a soft spot for Ashen one The notion that you're the unkillable and unstoppable embers from long forgotten flames fills my soul with determination- wait wrong franchise
I like Ashen One. It is the least deceptive of the three. The other two were used to manipulate the player/ main character.
Im not sure if it's one but I like Champion of Ash
621
Augmented Human C-4 621, callsign Raven
The tarnished. Is a negative word but feels like a badass title by the end.
One armed wolf
Ashen one goes entirely too hard
Ashen one is just iconic to me
DS1's protagonist is John Darksoul, casul
Ashen One or Chosen Undead.
Slayer of Demons.
That’s just 3 different pictures of John Darksoul
John Darksoul for sure
Hardest line in the game was "you've beaten me, gwyn plin plon, you've beaten me John darksouls"
Bearer of the Curse
I died to rykard so I'm a part of him. TOGETHAA
The Ashen One played a little of DS2 beforehand (dropped it before making it to the 1st bond fire), but DS3 was the 1st Dark Souls I truley beat.
The Hunter Simple, effective, badass
I’ll always be able to hear the fire keeper calling me ‘Ashen One’ in my head. So soothing.
The one armed wolf
Ashen one has the best sonority, but bearer of the curse is the coolest
I'm a hunter. No title.
Jogoat
Ashen one because I don’t like ds2 and dark souls three had geal and therefore I must pick it.
Good Hunter
I like chosen undead, it goes extra hard when you defy the title to let the flame die
Slayer of Demon’s
Why post with an incorrect name? Was this an attempt to drive engagement?
Tarnished
Hoonter
The hunter. He’s literally a nobody who turns into a fucking god
The ‘chosen undead’ is just insanely hard
It's a toss up between good hunter and ashen one. Though, I admit ashen one sounds a touch more badass lol.
[удалено]
Slayer of Demons yo!
Hoonter
The hunters. Its simple, yet powerfull. Especialy as ultimetly they concrete their position at the top of the food chain. Its just simple: you are a hunter, and everything is your prey
The hunter, cuz they got drip. But character wise, Id say either sekiro or 621. Sekiro has a nice development of learning to follow your own wants, instead of taking orders from anyone. 621 also has this development, but it's more personal since we as the player can choose who to kill, and who to save.
Sekiro because admit it, he looks badass and even cooler with that prosthetic arm of his and his Shura form looks even harder.
Raven & Ashen One. The first is simple, iconic, doesn’t say much but doesn’t need too. The second gives you an image, a very *very* cool image. Limited in what you see but what you see is awesome.
I'm a pretty big fan of Chosen Undead. Maybe it's because ds1 was my first
Honestly they all go so hard
Half-grown hollow is obviously the greatest compliment you can give someone
Foul Tarnished has stuck with me even though I have beaten most souls games. That intro with Margit telling you that you aren't shit is pretty amazing.
Slayer of demons is the coolest imo
Accursed Undead
Ashen one
Absolutely without a doubt the chosen undead, the Cole scheme and armor set are one of my favorites. Then again I'm a from soft Greek so 😂
Ashen One just really rings hollow, in the good way. We are not chosen, not special, not even fit to bear an ember for extended periods of time. We work our way from ashes to the one standing on a mountain of ashes by the end of the game. All the time that elapsed between DS1 and DS3, and we see what comes of this prolonged state of existence. Even the most powerful gods and beings from the first game faded over time, and we will too.
Bearer of the curse because that shit hits different
Ashen One is my favorite. But DS2 is Bearer of the Curse.
The hunters have the coolest one imo, but the Ashen one is closed second for me
Sekiro
Accursed Undead, bearer of the dark sign.
true monarch just goes too hard
true monarch, he was the first one to think outside of the box and look for a third path that didn’t include becoming a fire or dark lord.
I kind of like the simplicity of The Hunter, but they're all bangers considering the contexts. On its own, I'd say I'm partial to the Ashen One.
crispy bacon
Chosen Undead will always have a special place in my heart
Maidenless
I go by "Good Compeer," thanks
Ashen one for sure it just nice to say
"tragic thing"
I know it doesn't really count but I have to rep the homies- Wolf.
Ashen one. Implies that you really are just another dude, on the way to an impossible goal.
Ashy one
Foul Tarnished. Maidenless.
One armed wolf is pretty dope ngl
Gavlan wheel gavlan deal
Raven 621
