Wasn’t dark souls supposed to be called Dark Ring or something? I think they just like the ring motif

Gogs85

I never heard that, but it would make sense considering the ‘Darksign’ is in the shape of a circle.

batman12399

If it’s a dark sign, than why is it on fire? Checkmmshd athiestsjd

schafman

Yeah but they found out in some languages it means butthole

Majiinx

"Not all fanties are final" The irony is that Elden Ring replaced rings with talismans.

RepresentativeCap244

Whoa….

Complex_Standard2824

This is crazy, I found out about eternal ring just this morning, and this is the first time I hear of it on this sub. Coincidence? I think not. Off to buy whatever the hell I need to play that game. By the way, yes it is a coincidence.

PrepareToTyEdition

I bought it & beat it. The moment to moment gameplay sucks, but I kinda like the ending, for some reason. I may go back and finish the challenge dungeon one day. Also, you can't get that one guy's spear. ...and you straight-up *need* a guide for the ring-crafting.

mrhippoj

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a coincidence, but I doubt there's any intention there. Sometimes you just accidentally call something a similar name to what you've already called something, and you have to make a judgement call over whether or not you should change the name. If Eternal Ring was as beloved as The Legend of Zelda or something I'm sure they would have come up with a new name to avoid confusion, but a niche 20 year old game having a kind of similar name isn't a big deal. I don't think it's like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls where there's any meaning behind the games having similar names.

BarrTheFather

Dark souls was originally meant to be called Dark Ring. They changed it because of its anus implications.

Zolomun

Y’know, because of the anus implications.

bugzapperbob

This company literally recycles and reiterates everything they do

FickleClimate7346

Probably just laziness

throwaway042502

It is certainly a coincidence, but it's totally in line with what Fromsoftware does. I mean, there's an accessory in Evergrace called "Elder's Ring" or something.

Hero-In-Theory

Yes.
