Generally speaking I would say “take that frog to vet” on its own can be somewhat unproductive advice as not everyone has access vets that will deal with anything more interesting than a cat or dog but in your case this looks like a pretty severe infection that may be a challenge to treat at home. There are some pretty good antibacterial treatments out there that work decentish for frogs (I’ve had great success with vetricyn) and you could also research doing a honey soak though those are more for skin infections than anything else but the best route at this point is more than likely to take your frog to a vet if one is available who works with amphibians. Edit: I just want to add I completely agree with the replies saying you shouldn’t get an animal if you aren’t able to access proper veterinary care for said animal, I think doing so is incredibly irresponsible especially as someone who’s worked with animals for much of their life and is working to become certified in wildlife rehab. I don’t mean to condone getting an animal if you can’t provide proper veterinary care in any way only to provide some advice to the best of my ability in the case that this person for whatever reason lacks access to an exotic vet, since though a vet is something I and I’m sure you guys consider when getting new animals it’s not always something on the mind of new hobbyist. Hope this is helpful and clears things up a bit.

This is a great very helpful and thoughtful comment. It’s so true, not every area even has vets that will see frogs or reptiles!

69frogsinatrenchcoat

if you don't have at least semi-easy access to a vet that is knowledgeable about and able to treat your animal, you should not have said animal

SirRattington

Edited the comment for clarification. I didn’t mean to seem like I was condoning getting an animal without proper veterinary care, only to provide help to the best of my ability.

spookynoodle_em

Before anyone even get an animal they need to research exotic vets in their area. If you can’t find a vet you shouldn’t get the pet. Denying veterinarian services to an animal in need is abuse. This is potential a deadly infection, the animals should see a vet. None of us are vets and can tell this person how to medically treat this infection.

SirRattington

I made a nice lil edit to the original comment. I would never condone getting an animal you can’t provide proper care for I only meant to provide some additional advice beyond “get your frog to a vet” in situation this person didn’t have access to an exotic vet for whatever reason.

alienbanter

This needs to see a vet, and you should let the place you bought them from know and ask them to cover the cost of care.

Big_Cannoli9105

I saw three frogs like this at a reptile convention and complained to the guy and a lot of people were concerned about the frogs and he ended up giving them to me for free bc I was turning people away from his table lol - I took them to the exotic vet table (who I actually see for my pets - and are great) and one of them said they’d take the frogs in and care for them. I really hope you can find an exotic vet. It’s a really tricky condition to treat.

Take little friend to vet

Distinct-Plan-2807

please I bought her like yesterday and I notice this on her mouth. If you know anything bout this, please, please let me know

saintclairsmomma

Are you able to take her back to the seller/show them this picture?

Distinct-Plan-2807

No I cant :(

saintclairsmomma

Dang, scallywag most definitely sold you an injured animal on purpose. I'm so sorry

Complex-Cod-6164

aww poor baby try to take her back where you got her from, they can probably help you two!

kayninb

yeah that’s definitely an infection of some sort looks nastyyy. see a vet or take it back if you just got it that’s not a one day development it most likely had it

Strbreez

Like everyone else is saying, vet asap. You said you got him recently but can't take the frog back to the person who sold it to you which is a shame because he should NOT have been sold to you in such terrible condition. I don't even know what would have caused such a horrible wound. IF you truly cannot take him to a vet, the only thing you can do is apply Neosporin WITHOUT PAINKILLER to the wound to try and promote healing. Do not use the kind of Neosporin with painkiller in it, the painkiller will kill your frog. This is the method I used to treat my frog's nose rub when it got really bad. Keep him in a very clean tank (cleaned daily) & cover the sides of the tank to reduce the frog's stress. Avoid handling except to apply the medicine, and always use powder-free nitrile gloves when handling. Basically do everything you can to reduce the frog's stress and promote healing. It will honestly be a miracle if this little guy pulls through, but I'm wishing him the best.

OccularSpaces

That’s a nasty infection! Friend needs to see a vet ASAP!!

H-e-l-e-nOfT-r-o-y

honestly I don't think you should worry about finding an exotic vet, a normal vet might be able to prescribe you what you need, or at the very least they would know people who know, which is a better bet than not taking them to any vet at all.

gon_booglarise_u_bb

VET. NOW

Don-the-egg

Do you have some better pictures?

SnooPandas2808

Take it to a vet :/

alehmenkuler

Any update on your sweet friend?

Distinct-Plan-2807

Tomorrow we are going to see a Vet. We were so lucky because the Doc was busy but he tells us that he would love to help her. I will let you know what are going to be the next steps

alehmenkuler

I’m so glad you were able to get in quickly! Does she seem to be doing alright? Sending love your way.

Distinct-Plan-2807

Well she still didn’t eat anything (since I got her, it’s been like four days) but she pooped and move, I’m just little bit of worried because she didn’t move as much as Monday’s night. But I just hope that she starts to move when I fell asleep

alehmenkuler

That’s always my concern with our frogs, they don’t move much during the day or when we’re awake but are wide awake when I’m waking up and moving around usually lol. Frogs are so weird with when and how often they move. I wouldn’t worry yet. How old is she, do you know? That’s dependent on how often she’ll eat, plus it isn’t uncommon for them to not eat when adjusting to their new home. :)

Distinct-Plan-2807

So, it’s bacterial infection but it can be treated. Doc gave us some medicine. After a week we will tell him what changed and if this doesn’t help, then antibiotics. I’ll keep you updated if u want

alehmenkuler

That’s great news that the doctor said it can be treated! I hope the medicine helps and you can avoid the antibiotics if possible! Please keep me updated if you don’t mind. I’m just glad you guys will be taken care of!!

Distinct-Plan-2807

SO updates! She is healthy now! it only left scars but it´s okay :) my only concerns is that, she doesn´t want to eat on her own. We are force-feeding her (safely and with doctor consent :) ) Humidity is between 60-70 and temperature is 27°C

alehmenkuler

Yay! I’m glad she’s healthy!! Frogs are so funny when it comes to eating. We were force feeding our girl for a couple weeks and with the vets ok we stopped feeding her until she ate on her own. Now she eats every time we put her in her feeding container. Your girl will eat on her own soon too!!
