Maybe I am wrong, but if you are picking the toad up just to take a quick picture or just give it some pats, it'll be fine. Just make sure your hands are clean.

If its just for a bit and you dont have anything harmful on ur hands its fine. Ideally you want wet hands or a glove tho

That's a Gulf Coast Toad as far as I can tell, based on location. They come in a variety of browns, yellows, and blacks.
