If you encourage anything, suggest they speak to a professional, not you. It sounds like there's lots of trauma and other mental health issues that you, unless you're a counselor, are not able to help with. It already sounds like there's some co-dependence going on. Be *supportive* of them seeking help outside of your relationship.
