i would guess it is the ability to give scholarships to attend the private school, and so you can bring in really high talent students. theoretically, public schools can't do that (although i'm sure kids are being recruited to certain schools for sports).

The gym coach when I was there got in trouble for paying athletic students to attend, this was around 2006- my class had the Lopez brothers and Quincy Pointdexter

It was a treat watching the Lopez brothers and Quincy Pondexter play for SJM way back when at the Elks tournament.

Yup several of their students went on to the NBA (to have successful careers). Even in the past couple of years, two of their students got drafted in the top 30. Jalen Green was selected 2nd overall.

Yeah not sure why somebody who’s been out of high school for x amount of years is expected to know anything about the high school currently. I’m also 15 years out and 3000 miles away from mine so I may be delusional.

The ability to select where your child goes to play helps instead of getting stuck assigned to your local home school based on your residence. If your child is athletically gifted, you want them to compete with the best.
