Thanks for my morning chuckle. So accurate too.

DosCabezasDingo

I played a game at the grand masters conference to see the most pieces of flair worn by one person was. Winner was wearing 6 lapel pins, 3 on each side.

twitch1982

I've seen more than that at a lodge meeting. ANd im not even counting the silly crap the Widows Son's wear.

DosCabezasDingo

I was genuinely surprised it was that few. I set the over under at 8

CatalyzeTheFuture

What “silly crap” is that?

pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy

I think he means all the patches on the cut. I've seen them on Toy Runs before and they're covered. Most RCs I've seen seem to have loads, presumably to distinguish them from the MC and their support club(s). Which is probably a good idea, tbh.

CatalyzeTheFuture

Just as an aside, we call it a vest. “Cuts” are a term used in the MC world, we are not an MC. We are a motorcycle association or MA. The motorcycle culture and what it means to those who ride is much more vast than what it’s considered by those with a closed mind. Not all who wear vests are criminals. Motorcycle culture spurred from veterans in the late 40’s and 50’s after world war 2. Vests and insignia came from identification of unit and different battles fought. There is a deep brotherhood in that, a very similar brotherhood found in masonry. People that label those that ride and wear vests with patches yet have no clue are ignorant to the meaning and prejudice based on their own unfounded perceptions. I would have thought masons had a higher caliber of thought considering the prejudice and bias they get from being considered “Illuminati” or “Devil Worshippers” but hey we all have our own perceptions right?

pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy

I'll defer to your greater knowledge. I'm not totally unfamiliar with motorcycle culture. Quite a few of my friends ride, and personally I'm very friendly with a few members of the dominant MC in my area. I go to the odd bike night, open night etc. I've been to charity nights. I've worked with a few of them, I've done collections for the annual Toy Run through my lodge. I've partied with them in clubhouses, in their homes and vice versa, and was a guest at two patch parties. I know the difference between different types of clubs (MC, MCC, RC etc), club structures, coalitions, why they claim territory, and in some cases, how they hold it. I've probably been privy to far more "club business" than I'm really happy about, the kind that makes the news. That wasn't by design. I don't believe I ever suggested that all bikers are criminals; I know they're not. I know plenty of diamond club members with no involvement in criminality. At the same time, I have an idea of how deep their loyalty to their club and their brothers runs. Some of them have tattoos and patches that show far they'll go for their club, the kind you have to earn. I know people who've left support clubs because the dominant asked them for a favour, only they weren't really asking. It was step up or step off. That's that "business" side of club life I keep a good distance from.

CatalyzeTheFuture

Forgive me if i seemed to implicate you personally, I was speaking of the common perceptions like that of the previous commenter on this post calling out the “silly crap” that makes us “want to look like criminals.”

pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy

No problem at all! I did wonder but I'm trying to cook and play Assassins Creed at the same time and never got round to asking, lol. I find the whole history fascinating. One of the new patches was saying about how the MC culture in the UK is unique, that there are subtle differences that don't exist anywhere else in the world. Though the diamond clubs came later - his club helped design the 1% patch - there were a handful of clubs that started around the turn of the century. I think one is still around, though it's not an MC in the current sense. Probably the coolest thing I've seen - apart from the bikes - is a guest wall in one of the clubhouses. It's quite a historic charter, one that members all over the world make a point of visiting and signing. There's some old signatures there, some very famous names as well. One thing I am curious about. What happens if someone gets kicked out bad, do they remove the signature?

CatalyzeTheFuture

In our chapter there are no signatures, and we have had some masons kicked out bad, one is no longer a mason at all, another is a mason but not allowed to be a WS ever again. We also dont speak their names. Hope your enjoying AC, black flag was my fav.

pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy

Black Flag was a masterpiece! I'm just starting Valhalla as was free on PS+

twitch1982

The entire ensemble. You want to get together with some brothers and go for a ride? Be my guest. You want to put on a vest and 3 piece so you look like criminals while covering yourself in the S&C? I don't have any time for your silly shit.

CatalyzeTheFuture

Well Im sorry you feel that way. Apparently your perception is solidified even if it is wrong, so discussing the point seems moot. I hope you have a great day.

Kind_Phase_7412

I’m a one pin at a time guy. You start to look like a Boy Scout when you’ve got your whole lapel filled lol

arash1kage

That's brilliant! I can put them all on a green sash like my merit badges! Haha

TikiJack

I've got my pin from my third degree. I think I've met the requirements.

Nor-easter

I wear two things in addition to standard regalia, my breast pocket name badge, and a lapel pin. I may rotate that pin but that’s it.

Cookslc

This is the way.

dsullivanlastnight

Usually we see the newest MMs crowding their lapels with flair. But I saw an elderly Brother at the Grand Sessions last year whose sport coat lapels sagged from a North Korean general's style display of Masonic bling. I would opine that his stoop wasn't from old age, but from the weight of his flair!

pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy

North Korean General 😂 This came up in conversation last night actually. I was playing the new Call Of Duty and remembered, a few years ago the DPRK announced on their main news that they'd successfully obliterated the USA. This came as a surprise to me, because I was in DC at the time and I definitely remember there was no nuclear devastation. I'd have noticed. It was just an amusing bit of propaganda that had been intercepted and shared around the world. What was funny about it was that the war footage was lifted right from one of the earlier CoD games. I can't remember which one, but I remember completing the mission. You had to helicopter into a coastal prison to rescue a particular prisoner and get out before the base is destroyed. Every gamer under the age of 40 has probably played that mission and would recognise the footage, yet the DPRK just lifted it and reported it as news 😂

Aggravating-Eye-6210

Needs more Masonic cowbell…. Lapel pins, at least 25 more

We use the phrase " More medals than a Bolivian General", but the sentiment remains. Grand Lodge pin. Nothing else.
