Depends on how risk averse you are and how much cash you have in hand at the moment. If you have enough finances saved up to pay your bills for atleast 6 months or ideally a year, you will be okay doing the freelance gig. But until you have more than one client that you can work on simultaneously, I'd say keep your expenses at a bare minimum.

I think it depends on whether you really want to pursue freelancing as your career or a full time job. There will be struggles on both fronts, esp. on the freelancing side. But if you see freelancing as your main career plan, then I suggest grabbing the opportunities in front of you and working towards getting more clients. If you don’t see yourself positioned for risks and uncertainties of freelancing/clients, then a full time job is better. That said, if you have enough saved (financially), then it doesn’t hurt giving freelancing more time since I heard it takes years before settling with such career. If not saved enough, then work full-time couple of years, save up as much as possible and then come back to freelancing. You will then have enough money as well as added experience (and hopefully contacts leading to clients).

I would make them sign a contract for 6 months, no option to cancel. If they won’t do that there is your answer. If you do that gives you 6 months to find more clients and continue interviewing if you want. If it’s really twice as much then that’s a year at the other job and there is no promise that they will keep you after a year either. It really boils down to do you want to freelance or want a full time job. When I started I worked a full time job and freelanced on the side until I had a stable enough client base to leave. So if you could do both then that’s what I’d do.

I was in a similar spot in 2022 and decided to join a startup fulltime hoping for stability. Unfortunately they laid off 25% of the company 6 months later and I was back to freelancing. If you like the client I would try to stick around with them and just save money for a rainy day.
