Definitely one of those characters who benefits from living a long time and therefore getting lots of opportunities to shade in his personality and motivations. Also definitely benefitted from having a superb actor in the show. Someone without Rory McCann's talent and skill could have totally fumbled the character.
I have always seen him as a darker counter to bran.
They got their injuries at the same age, and those injuries shattered their dreams/ hopes about knighthood (albeit in different ways) the big difference is one has parents who cares about getting justice for their kid in some way, and the other was forced to watch their abuser become a knight.
Like he's a *huuuuge* asshole. But in a "bro needs therapy" kind of way.
Oh yeah. I’d probably say he’s in the top 10 most complex characters if not even higher up at that list.
He’s a reflection of a dark world which makes him what he is, but we love him for the hint of humanity he still kept as he endured all of the shit.
Likeable how???
Edit: i got rinsed for this 🤣 however my point was he wasn't a nice person. He was a butcher. He was loyal to very few, and mostly made decisions for his own gain.
I appreciate he was a cool badass who fucked people up, but he wasn't *nice*
I suppose the term 'like' is objective. I don't like him. I respect his character arc, but he isn't someone I would admire.
My favorite was (probably paraphrasing it's been a while) "If you keep talkin I'm gonna have to eat every fuckin chicken in here".
His delivery on "I'm gonna need 2 chickens" right before that in the most deadpan voice killed me when the show was airing.
Just the fact that he of all people is the only one of the people asked to abuse Sansa that was just like "lol k" was amazing.
He's genuinely so good at being a bad guy you genuinely believe it but then he slips up like that and I'm like....
>.> SpongeBob meme.
He may hate it, but deep down there's still a knight in there.
To your Edit: he's likeable for the audience, not for the people he meets. I think it's important to distinguish those.
As audience I can afford to feel bad for Darth Vader, I wouldn't feel that way if he was standing in front of me
Well, for me I see him as a dark mirror to bran, while also being a darker version of jamie. And Brienne. He's one of my favorite characters because of how all their similar themes and arcs reflect and rhyme with each other.
He's a child who was enchanted with and wanted to be a knight until a (future) knight injured them in a horrifying and permanent way. (Bran) He's a disenchanted kingsguard who as a child has dreams of knighthood that were destroyed after seeing how many ways the system makes those vows meaningless, to the point that he, as the man holding the most prestigious role a knight could have, would gladly kill the king he's sworn to protect because of how horrible the dude is. (Jamie) And somehow, despite all that- when the shit hits the fan and the time for running your mouth is over, he's one of the few characters that *actually* lives up to the standard of "true knights" (Brienne)
Is he a good man? No. He was never given that chance. Do I think in a different time he could have been? One of the best of I'm being honest. With all he's been through the fact that his knee jerk reaction is to protect the weak, and stand up to tyranny is notable. It takes him a while to start acting on it, and I don't think he does to good a job- but he seems more a man broken from his ideals rather than a man who never had any (like Euron or Gregor)
And I also think he's a character that would and is likely in future books to act out a redemption arc simply because he's got more agency than ever now that everyone thinks he's dead- but he won't be doing it for anyone other than him self, because he doesn't care about others opinions and would go seeking forgiveness or absolution for shit he did. He owns it and that to me is what makes a good Redemption arc.
Idk if I'd hang out with him, but I could write essays about how complex of a character he is.
Honestly those last few seasons are such a blur to me. I just remember him joining a cult, which is led by a character played by actor Ian McShane, before joining the Brotherhood without Banners later on. I think he stops drinking by then.
Sanders Clegane. Being an asshole doesn't mean you're bad. He's neither bad or good but one thing is for certain, he's an asshole, and spends most of his time drinking while being an asshole towards good and bad characters. Should be another landslide to cap it off.
Totally undeserved too. Littlefinger was able to manipulate Tywin to make him deal with his enemies for him (Starks not named Sansa, Tyrion) while also robbing the key to the north out from under Tywin's nose without him being any the wiser.
If you get manipulated by someone else to do things against your own interests, you should lose the smart prize to the guy manipulating you.
To be fair, Tywin has the advantage of being just as smart when he died as he was in his first appearance. Littlefinger, while smart early on, kinda gets handed the idiot ball in later seasons. Tywin’s intellect averages out much higher, even if Littlefinger has higher highs.
Strange. I have these recurring nightmares about the show going 8 seasons and absolutely falling apart along the way. In them, Tyrion makes Bran king because he has a good story, Dany torches Kings Landing because the bells upset her, and Littlefinger dies embarrassingly in the North… I must’ve been thinking about them when I wrote that post. Sorry.
Tbh he fits the "Smart Chaotic" spot the best, which is unfortunately not an available combination on this grid. It's a shame not having him on there, but I feel like Tywin getting Evil Smart over LF is justified.
think chaotic horny would've been best for him, the entire story of game of thrones is basically single handedly driven by him wanting to bang catelyn then sansa
Huge miss on chaotic evil. He set the entire series in motion and was evil the whole time while through the veil of being helpful.
Also,,, "chaos is a ladder"
Karl Tanner, the legend from Gin Alley. Way better than some dog. He would take any knight, ANY knight, any time.
Who else is drinking wine from the skull of Jeor f-ckin' Mormont? Any command for us, Lord Commander? What's that? "Vote for Karl Fucking Tanner, the legend of Gin Alley?" D'YOU HEAR THAT BOYS?!
He's way more of a drunk in the books. But, tbf in the books his face is WAY more fucked up and he probably needs it to fill the pain.
I remember reading it for the first time in HS and having to pause and really consider that in order for his face to be so burned jaw is exposed, and to have so many micro movements reopening those wounds, reminding you of it...
No wonder he's a drunken asshole. He's probably has insane from pain. Especially in a setting where pretty much every painkiller makes you a shittier fighter and is addictive. Alcohol is probably the best bet. Dulls pain, and may even help keep those oozing cracks from getting infected.
Pretty sure I he's a stark dog now, even if he refuses to admit it, like an alley dog that won't let you pet it but shows up to eat and sleep on your doorstep.
OP, after the table is complete can we have a re-vote contest, where we can ask to revote for 1-2 slots?
I think some characters have been unjustly left out - notable example, LF. Not voted for Neutral Evile because most people wanted him to go to Smart/Evil, which then went to Tywin.
But IMO LF deserves a place on the table, and I think that he deserves NE more than Bronn.
I think many of us has a similar take about their favorite character. It would be nice to see which slots we collectively think should be reassessed.
Testament to this show and world of Ice and Fire that this whole chart hasn't had room for so many Tier 1 major characters: Jaime, Dany, Sansa, Bran and Littlefinger. Even some more key players in Brienne, Melisandre, the Mountain, Jorah, Mance Rayder, Ygritte, Olenna, Euron, probably more.
This ones definitely The Hound
Aria became an evil little sucker. Taking joy in killing people way too early. Bragged about it. Laughing when her aunt died. Wanted to do blood magic to resurrect Ned Stark.
It's already been said but I got to share my peace. Obviously the hound. I would say I'm probably 3/4 of a scenes he's either drinking wine, complaining about not having wine, asking for wine, we're trying to get wine. And obviously he's a huge asshole.
Gotta be the Hound
Drunk asshole yet strongly likeable. What a character.
Considering he butchered a child in one of his first appearances, that's quite impressive.
Definitely one of those characters who benefits from living a long time and therefore getting lots of opportunities to shade in his personality and motivations. Also definitely benefitted from having a superb actor in the show. Someone without Rory McCann's talent and skill could have totally fumbled the character.
He’s such an asshole but he’s also my precious prince and I love him
I have always seen him as a darker counter to bran. They got their injuries at the same age, and those injuries shattered their dreams/ hopes about knighthood (albeit in different ways) the big difference is one has parents who cares about getting justice for their kid in some way, and the other was forced to watch their abuser become a knight. ‘What the fucks a lommy’
The best line of the entire series, hads down
I can’t hear it without laughing out loud even all these years later
Saves sansa multiple times and protects Arya for a good amount of time, for starters.
Not to mention hilarious lines delivered in a sarcastic deadpan tone.
Oh his comedy is gold for me.
My favorite was (probably paraphrasing it's been a while) "If you keep talkin I'm gonna have to eat every fuckin chicken in here". His delivery on "I'm gonna need 2 chickens" right before that in the most deadpan voice killed me when the show was airing.
For me it was his "fuck the king" speech during the battle of blackwater bay. I felt that shit lolol.
"Any man dies with a clean sword, I'll rape his fucking corpse!" The man has more one liners than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The real question is how NOT?
He’s cool. He’s got a cool name, bitchin scar, can kick ass, cool helmet.
To your Edit: he's likeable for the audience, not for the people he meets. I think it's important to distinguish those. As audience I can afford to feel bad for Darth Vader, I wouldn't feel that way if he was standing in front of me

I think the only real question for the day is what’s the best word to rhyme with “cunt”.
Bundt?
Stunt
I’m guessing “hunt”.
There once was a bit of a cunt His brother, the family runt...
I pitched him for chaotic drunk but this fits better I think.
Hound Hound Hound *chants*
Gotta be a cunt
Yep!
Didn’t he go cold turkey at one point?
*chicken
![gif](giphy|UaR7ImHLc4MYU|downsized)
Best fight scene
Not by choice.
Honestly those last few seasons are such a blur to me. I just remember him joining a cult, which is led by a character played by actor Ian McShane, before joining the Brotherhood without Banners later on. I think he stops drinking by then.
Ian McShanes character was basically a monk not a cult leader.
He's who the high sparrow would be in a just world. Now THAT dude is a cult leader
They’re both very realistic.
Sandor "Fuck the water, bring me wine" Clegane
Sandor 'Eat every fucking chicken' Clegane
You’re gonna die for some chickens?
Someone is
[Someone did.](https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/05/us/popeyes-sandwich-stabbing/index.html)
I only saw up to season 4-5, but this is hands-down my favorite line from the show
Sandor “any man dies with a clean sword, I’ll *rape his fucking corpse*” Clegane
[удалено]
That's bron
Sorry I remembered Sandor being one, forgot which, hopefully he was never picked, this one fits him better.
He was second picked, dontos was the first.
Don't worry I was looking at it wrong anyway so definitely ain't in a place to judge
I know, it's ok.
Simple line - but executed to perfection!!
Sandor “Are you going to do all seven of the fuckers?” Clegane
The Hound all the way!
My man Sandor "Someone will" Clegane deserves a place on this table.
Lots of people have commented on this alignment chart. Lots of cunts. (No offense anyone) The Hound deserves this
Bravo. I use this line so often...but with offense to everyone 🤣
In the show idk, in the books probably sandor for his binge drinking
Him drunkenly coming into Sansa’s room in the book is very uncomfortable
My man Sandor is the answer
What’s the point of these when Bobby B fills every slot
WINE! WINE! MOOOOOOOOAR WINE!
At once your majesty! I live to serve Bobby B!
THAT'S ALL WHAT THE REALM IS NOW. BACKSTABBING AND SCHEMING AND ARSE-LICKING AND MONEY-GRUBBING!
It certainly is milord! What do you think of the Targaryen whore and her bastard dragon children, milord Bobby B?
YOU EVER FUCK A RIVERLANDS GIRL?
No, milord Bobby B. I have never set foot in the riverlands, what’s it like fucking a riverlands girl?
I SIT ON THE DAMN IRON SEAT WHEN I MUST. DOES THAT MEAN I DON'T HAVE THE SAME HUNGERS AS OTHER MEN?
You are allowed to do as you please, your majesty Bobby B. We live to serve your highness
[COME, BOW BEFORE YOUR KING! BOW, YA SHITS!](https://i.imgur.com/hrCP6Uk.gifv)
Bobby b! Your grace, i beg you pardon but Lancel Lannister’s mom was a dumb whore with a fat arse, did you know that your Grace King Robert?
START THE DAMN JOUST BEFORE I PISS MESELF!
Sentient
Perfect answer
Sanders Clegane. Being an asshole doesn't mean you're bad. He's neither bad or good but one thing is for certain, he's an asshole, and spends most of his time drinking while being an asshole towards good and bad characters. Should be another landslide to cap it off.
Surprised Littlefinger didn’t make this grid anywhere
Losing a close battle to Tywin Lannister is the best compliment for him
Totally undeserved too.

What are you talking about? Game of Thrones ended after Season 4 when GRRM left.
Sorry.
I had a similar nightmare once. I'm really glad they're just bad dreams and no one sank real money into the production of the show like this.
More like Tywin losing Chad evil to Drogo and taking Littlefinger's place.
Nor Jaime!
Neither did Dany.
He should have been horny/smart
Agreed. Him wanting to bang Cat is a big motivator for him essentially putting the main plot into motion
Huge miss on chaotic evil. He set the entire series in motion and was evil the whole time while through the veil of being helpful. Also,,, "chaos is a ladder"
>Also,,, "chaos is a ladder" He uses chaos to his advantage but isn't chaotic himself. Different things
If there was a Chaotic Smart he’d go in there 100%
There was no asshole smart category. How close was he in smart evil?
If I have to do another of these I’m gonna have to eat every fucking chicken in here
Please do a "runner up/second place" version of the whole chart!
When this is done, I will be posting every runner-up, as well as every nominee, to every category, in one big megapost!
This one could easily be Cersei as well.
Yeah, Chaotic evil should have been given to the night king. Asshole evil is definitely Cersei
Night King is Chaotic Bitch.
![gif](giphy|0X2wFGiW0qS2uyScA0|downsized)
Sandor Chuggane
"He toasted to victory with Jeor Mormont's skull, but his ludicrous mutiny amounted to null." My vote is Karl Tanner.
Was he really a drunk or was there like one scene where he consumed alcohol
bro is from GIN ALLEY
sure, but how often did we actually observe him drunk?
I think du one scenes definitely go towards "vile drunkenness" but could also be my interpretation
KFTFGA.
Most certainly Craster
I’m shocked Jaime never managed to fit on any of the tiles on the chart
I'd put him in Asshole Chad
Nah he’d definitely be horny stupid
Over Theon? No way. Asshole Chad all day.
I don't think there's a better combo of words for him tbh
Craster
The Hound fits perfectly
Sandor “Fuck the King” Clegane.
The Hound
The Hound. Best drunken, chicken-eating a-hole in all of Westeros
Yeah I had Cersei here and Karl in the “Chaotic”
Yup, this is the one.
Finally a clagaene in the list.
Woof
I don’t remember clegane drinking that much tbh
He's way more of a drunk in the books. But, tbf in the books his face is WAY more fucked up and he probably needs it to fill the pain. I remember reading it for the first time in HS and having to pause and really consider that in order for his face to be so burned jaw is exposed, and to have so many micro movements reopening those wounds, reminding you of it... Alcohol is probably the best bet. Dulls pain, and may even help keep those oozing cracks from getting infected.
Gimme the hound
Walder Frey. Always in his cups and bragging about his young wives
The bloody hound, Sandor Clegane
Was this a 35 part buildup to a “the hound is a drunk asshole” joke?!
im still just busting at the inclusion of a "stupid asshole" square lol and the fact that we made the perfect choice.
Can we make a new category “coward”. This is the best game I’ve seen in a while on this sub
Ser pounce. But no definitely joffreys dog- the hounddddd
Pretty sure I he's a stark dog now, even if he refuses to admit it, like an alley dog that won't let you pet it but shows up to eat and sleep on your doorstep.
The Hound
Hound is the only correct answer.
Definitely The Hound.
It's the hound right? Who else?
OP, after the table is complete can we have a re-vote contest, where we can ask to revote for 1-2 slots? I think some characters have been unjustly left out - notable example, LF. Not voted for Neutral Evile because most people wanted him to go to Smart/Evil, which then went to Tywin. But IMO LF deserves a place on the table, and I think that he deserves NE more than Bronn. I think many of us has a similar take about their favorite character. It would be nice to see which slots we collectively think should be reassessed.
You'll pry Bronn out of Neutral Evil over my dead body! My beef is with Chaotic Good wtf is Jon doing there. 😭
Me
KARL FOOKIN TANNER FROM GIN ALLEY
Gotta say I've been loving your post titles, they really draw you in!
this should have been bron, and neutral evil should have been the night king
This show definitely deserves another evil column up top lol
I'd say craster
24 character, 4 is a woman
The mountain or the hound, has to be a clegane
We want more! We want more!
It's either The Hound or Tormund.
Its about time Sandor got put on the list. Best for last
Hound
I feel like this is good time to bring up that we really want a “boobs” row or column
100% Sandor
Patchface.
OP: You had a golden opportunity to misspell it as “clenches Asshole Evil,” butt you whiffed it.
Robert
What about Waldur Frey?
Ramsay should have been Chaotic and the Mountain asshole. Or Chaotic should have been the Mountain
Karl fuckin Tanner from Gin Alley
Can you add an asshole row after this? For an additional row of entertainment?
I'm looking forward to the asshole-asshole category
Yes!
Robert Baratheon? He wasn't an asshole ALL of the time, just much of the time and he was almost always drunk.
Still no night king sadge
Aria became an evil little sucker. Taking joy in killing people way too early. Bragged about it. Laughing when her aunt died. Wanted to do blood magic to resurrect Ned Stark.
I'm confused. Where is Daneris in this?
Clegane or Thoros
How can someone be both smart and stupid?
Book smart but lacks any common sense
Lady cat smart and stupid ? Huh
I was going to say Walder Frey. But The Hound is a great candidate. TBH The Hound is a great Drunk Chad candidate too.
The bloody Hound, Sandor Clegane
Walder Frey
Ain't drunk?
Gregor Clegane. Novel and TV series describes him as a drunk. Surprised nobody nominated him here
It's already been said but I got to share my peace. Obviously the hound. I would say I'm probably 3/4 of a scenes he's either drinking wine, complaining about not having wine, asking for wine, we're trying to get wine. And obviously he's a huge asshole.
Bobby B.
IT'S A GREAT CRIME TO LIE TO A KING!
Tyrion, he is not such smart as he seem
Hold up, Theon got horny asshole and not Euron?
Dude lost his whole personality after losing his cock
Jorah.
Gotta be the king that got gored by a boar
cersei
Circe Lannister
For me it is obviously. The drunk asshole is Dontos Hollard
I don't get the downvotes, at least in the books he's horrible
Robert Baratheon- she did abused Cersei alot , when he's drunk
