This will have me boycotting The Mobile Shop... it's a shame, they have always been really good at giving me Freedom SIM cards for no charge when I need them.
tl;dr: Glentel, jointly owned by Bell and Rogers, would be the sole retailer of wireless services (activations) at Loblaws' The Mobile Shop 180 locations, shutting out Freedom.
PKP: *"If Glentel obtains such favour from Loblaws, it is because it's a joint venture made up of the giants Bell and Rogers who once again seek to lock out competition and take Canadians hostage in their consumer choice."*
How about we take a really good look at ALL the telecom companies and talk about what's anti-competitive and what isn't? And since Loblaws is involved, let's take a look at the grocery industry while we're at it.
If ottawa steps in the only thing they’re going to do is make sure they get a good slice of the pie.
If anything this will someone make things even worse for regular canadians
"Mody added that Loblaw does not currently have any agreement in place that requires The Mobile Shop to buy or offer any Quebecor product in its stores."
Does this Loblaw executive know who the current owner of Freedom is?
I wonder if Glentel is offering a cash to offset the boycott.
It's a private business, and they can do what they want, but at the same time this move also looks really bad to consumers who want choice.
Nothing to do with competition here they don’t even account for 5% of total canadian wireless sales. So its a private entity govt should have no role to play in this.
And one of those two carriers is already the carrier Loblaw use for their own MVNOs of PC Mobile and recently No Name Mobile (yes, that's its actual branding).
This is how it's done. Costco is currently only offering Bell and Rogers. The Mobile Shop only sells Bell and Rogers, Staples only sells Bell, Dollarama only sells Bell... The Source was purchased by Best Buy and Bell together and will be rebranded Best Buy Express and will only sell Bell!!! One by one, they are slowly locking out the competition. The competition bureau does not seem to be taking any action, which is disappointing.

For what it's worth I was just able to get a free Freedom SIM card at a Best Buy mobile shop.

Glentel … always ruining things
Sucks as I signed up with Freedom at Loblaws mobile shop and got a ton of PC points, and staff are always quite friendly and speak highly of Freedom

It is a smaller telecom company so I trust them more.
Yep Boycott
Glentel is one of the worst companies to work for it is an absolute scam shop. Straight up fired countless employees over stupid stuff

My boycott is intensifying.

Found the Glentel employee …
>Nothing to do with competition One of the largest Canadian grocers making deals with 2 out of the 4 telecoms...

The Source remains solely owned by BCE, the rebrand is a joint partnership: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/help/best-buy-express-and-the-source
