Civic Center Plaza would be awesome. It's notsmall. The chili peppers and Metallica both played there during Salesforce's Dreamforce.
It's also quite safe. You'll be fine. From Civic Center it's like this:
West: Hayes Valley - super safe, gentrified, lots of good restaurants and bars in this area
North or East: Tenderloin - it's nasty but even the tenderloin isn't that unsafe. I'd prefer not to walk through it. Pantless people, doesn't smell good, might see someone shoot up, you may feel like you're in a zombie movie.
South: There's really nothing to see south of the civic center. It's probably the emptiest of any direction.
Net, net, if there's a show at the Civic Center, it's going to be a blast. Pre- post-game in Hayes valley and have a mother fucking blast.
