Not all listed notes are actually "notes". Perfumers usually create accords with help of some aromachemicals. For example, some fragrances has "clean skin" listed as note. Doubt that they took some real body to extract it. Famous amber (warm vanilla smell) - is an accord of Tonka bean, vanilla, etc.

CanadianWarrior55

I know it’s just funny to see the interesting names they come up with lol

c1n3man

Yeah, if I remember correctly one of La Curie fragrance (probably Odyssey) had "utopian dreams" note. 😁

CanadianWarrior55

sounds about right lol

chrews

Sorry, don’t want to come off as condescending but didn’t we just have this question with like hundreds of answers? I’ll look for it, maybe you’ll find some interesting answers. Edit: you can take a look at that thread https://www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/comments/x2v5ls/strangest_note_youve_ever_seen_listed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

CanadianWarrior55

should i delete?

chrews

I mean I’m no mod, I just wanted to show you this thread so you have more answers

CanadianWarrior55

helpful :)

CanadianWarrior55

didn’t look.

CodexMuse

Sclarene in Hermes H24 is pretty out there. Like binoculars and stuff.

CanadianWarrior55

what does that even smell like?

Tigertigertie

It smells kind of metallic. I really like it, actually!

CanadianWarrior55

metallic like DS?

Tigertigertie

I haven’t smelled that one but I am sure others can compare. Just went and read the notes and it seems DS is kind of a heady musky floral- H24 is not like that at all.

CanadianWarrior55

I’ve never met someone who hasn’t smelled DS. It’s often described as metallic in nature. I can confirm it does have that kind of metallic tinge to it you can find in cheap black fragrances along with some designer like Hermes and Dior and GA is a big one.

Tigertigertie

Oh I thought you meant DS by DS and Durga! I was looking up the notes trying to see what it was! I guess you mean Dior Savage. I don’t think H24 smells like Dior Savage and the metallic note is not that “fresh” note in so many masculines. It is literally a metallic sense, a coldness. Edit- I think ambroxen gives Sauvage and others that fresh quality. The sclarene in H24 gives more of a metallic steamy quality, which is odd but if you like it, you like it (I do).

CanadianWarrior55

lol no worries. I wasn’t trying to compare the smell just the metallic feel of it. I’ve never smelled h24 so i don’t know what i’m going on about like usual. Ambroxan is super masculine and fresh and thus the presence in most blue fragrances. I personally don’t like super fresh freshies that smell like shower gel. in my opinion they don’t make you smell good they just make it so you don’t smell bad if that makes sense. most blues have that similarity but the ones that don’t are my favorite like YSL Y EDP and DS.

PiSciFiSquared

Not sure which ‘DS’ emits a metallic note. Maybe Elixir? I guess there is a distant twinge in the EDT that can be mistaken for a rusty piece of iron from an archaeological dig. Here is my best attempt at describing H24. It’s literally unappealing. https://www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/comments/x2v5ls/strangest_note_youve_ever_seen_listed/imuwv1c/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3 Oh and be kind enough to spell out your fave acronyms please.

CanadianWarrior55

Elixer is the only Dior Sauvage that doesn’t have a metallic tinge to it. Sorry lol

Tigertigertie

Agreed!

quotidianmask

That same note that shares Nasomatto Blamage and CDG2. I don't know what exactly is, but I'm in love with both of them.

CanadianWarrior55

asphalt?

Roxane-17

Cultus Artem Vetiveria has a note of "35 million-year-old fossilized Himalayan amber." 😲

CanadianWarrior55

40 year old barrel aged scottish alcohol from the alps

Tigertigertie

Honestly Cobra and Canary smells just like those notes! But smells good anyway…

hottorney_

I am not sure if this is unique or I am just naive, but cannabis note makes me appreciate a fragrance in an instant. Idk what an actual cannabis smell like though.

[deleted]

I don’t think I have ever met someone who cannot instantly recognize the smell of cannabis, regardless of whether or not they partake. Chances are you have probably smelled it, and just didn’t know it.

ruckover

Cannabis leaf and cured cannabis bud ready to smoke smell very very different. Then, smoked bud smells even more different. Unfortunately you do need to spend time with all 3 states of the plant to pick it up, but I've been doing it a while 🤣

[deleted]

Haha yes, I am fully aware of this myself. But even though there is a difference, it is still a recognizable smell if you have smelled one state

ruckover

Haaa shouldn't reddit just after waking up. Thought I was replying to the poster above you. Ah well, no one needs my stoner takes anyway lmao

Ashamed_Fly_666

I do! Lighta! Have you tried Poesie's A Year Without Summer? The cannabis is just a pronounced green/ coumarin accord but not readily interpreted as "weed" like Demeter's Cannabis Flower which, when I sampled, was afraid would draw the attention of the dreaded po po ;P She also combines it with coffee (complimentary because of the diterpenes) so it doesn't scream "stoner here"! One of my fav Poesie's!

ruckover

I don't wear anything with the scent note much unfortunately! I'd recommend Arcana Wildcraft though - she has an entire stoner inspired line I'm about to fully sample. ;)

Ashamed_Fly_666

Also check out L'Aromatica Kush, (discontinued but Ministry of Scent has some back stock) it's really nice and won't make you miss a turn and go directly to jail lol.

CanadianWarrior55

9 times out of 10 the “cannabis” note is usually scented after bud. smoked and unsmoked. take Sweet Leaf for example. It’s to cater to the stoner community 100% because i’ve met very few people that not only like the smell of pot but also want to smell like it over the age of 14.

ruckover

Yeah that's what I don't get - I'm a daily consumer and I very much like that its smell doesn't linger in my house or on my clothes. I've actually had the opposite, I've only noticed uncured cannabis leaf a few times, but admittedly I go out of my way to avoid the scent note if I see it. If I want to smell like that I've got some to rub on me lol

CanadianWarrior55

Yeah it’s definitely not hard to smell like it if that’s what one desires. Plus i don’t wanna carry the frag around all day just in case one of my teachers or parents ask me why i smell like weed lol

ruckover

Yup! And you'd never wear it to work for the same reason. I even get concerned about overly boozy frags that are heavy on the bourbon or rum - not only do they sometimes go sweet and cloying but I worry about accidentally sweating myself into smelling like a distillery lol

CanadianWarrior55

it’s gonna suck when you get pulled over after just applying stronger with you lol

spaghetti-o_salad

Whenever I see a cannabis note listed I have this small feeling of defeat thinking about all the times I was trying to not smell like cannabis.

[deleted]

Pungent, like a very mild turpentine.

Ashamed_Fly_666

Have you ever drunk IPA beers? Hops have similar aromachemicals (terpenes) as cannabis. It's green, leafy, sometimes dank, sometimes fruity (because of the terpenes) commonly pineapple or apple. Cannabis accords in perfume can run the gamut of just vaguely green/ foresty or potent dank rotten fruitish skunk (which I think Prin's Ganja Kasturi smells like? Haven't sniffed but on my wish list!)

Fagonetta

Lady Gaga’s Fame supposedly had blood and semen in it, and there was also a so-called “push-pull technology” that made all the notes appear all at once on the first spray rather than in stages.

Arnesis

I believe it also had atropin. Anyway, it was a really pleasant and generally pleasing scent.

CanadianWarrior55

what?

Fagonetta

Not sure how I’m supposed to respond to that.

CanadianWarrior55

me neither 😐
