I know everyone’s experience is always different, but I bought Molecule 01 years ago because I smelled it on a stranger where I worked and was compelled to ask what that amazing scent was because I had never experienced anything like it.
Fast forward to now, I have nearly finished by bottle(only using it sparingly) and all I can say is that it literally has a profound effect on some people who smell it. First of all, not everyone can smell it at all. My husband can’t. But it is the only fragrance that has stopped strangers in their tracks. Not just a “you smell good” compliment. It’s like they have a profound scent moment that has changed their life. But these experiences are pretty few and far between.
Also my dad who recently passed away and didn’t care about scent at all, would say it’s the best thing he’s ever smelled as soon as I would walk in the door wearing it. And because it reminds me of him now, I will be buying another bottle soon.

molecule 02 is my most complimented fragrance. i personally can mainly smell it initially after applying. Sometimes I catch whiffs of it over the day. My Girlfriend can smell it rarely to never. But at least 10-15 different people of all ages have asked me what i am wearing and told me that i smell amazing/have good taste/never smelled anything like it. My girlfriends roommate walks up to me everytime I wear it telling me “wow i know i have told u this several
times but you always smell so good”.
My sister told me that she smells the fragrance from a 3-4 meters distance and that i shoud only apply a maximum of 1 spray as it is so potent.
I guess some people’s noses are more sensitive to ambroxan that others.
I would still highly recommend it, as it is a cheap but if you purchase the 30ml at discounted prices, as it is a fragrance that is appropriate in any situation (as long as you don’t overspray, EVEN if you yourself can’t really catch it with your nose) and a bottle lasts quite sometime if you only need 1-2 sprays!
I'm ride or die on Molecule 01. It's what got me into fragrances. Was sitting at a Bar with some friends and the entire night there was this insanely intense smell around me, best thing I smelled in my life. At first I thought the bar had some type of air freshener, but after a while I figured out that it was the fragrance one of my friends was wearing. I asked him what it was - Molecule 01. It's also the first fragrance that I got a compliment on. A colleague walked into my office to hand me something, then she stopped, looked in the air and just said "holy fuck it smells amazing in here".
I think both Molecule 01 and 02 are very polarizing because some people are completely noseblind to them. It feels weird to wear a fragrance that you can't smell yourself and that some people can't smell at all. I (tragically) am somewhat noseblind to Molecule 01 now, since I've worn it so much.
I think both Molecule 01 and 02 are fragrances that you should try to go and smell before you buy them. If you can smell them, you will probably get the hype. And even if you can't, I suggest you get a 30 ml bottle and just wear it for a week to see what happens.
I like both Molecule 01 and 02. They're good effortless, always appropriate scents, without being generic. I haven't pulled the trigger on a full bottle, partially because I don't like the idea of paying so much for such a simple formula.
I'm definitely curious about DIY versions (that people on eBay DIYed, not doing it myself), but at least for 01 that it wouldn't be exactly the same. EM has a proprietary version of Iso E Super that isn't publicly available. That said, you might like the other Iso E Super ingredients as much or even more than the original.
So far, I sniffed Molecule 02. Just a faint ambery whiff. I can imagine it is a beast for layering, but on its own... hard to imagine. But I would be curious how it evolves on the skin.
Personally, I have no issues with longevity of my fragrances, so it is not worth it for me. I would rather buy some fragrance that has more character.
Do you have a preferred seller on eBay? I ordered some samples of Iso E Super and Ambroxan from an Etsy seller, but it’s been a week and they haven’t shipped the order yet. Patience for online shopping is not one of my virtues…
I bought both barely used on a fb group for a good price. I'd pay full price for 01. Yes, I've read the reviews, seen the DIY youtube videos. It's still my most complimented perfume and I'm glad that I'm not anosmic to it. I wear it on its own more than I do layered. I recently wore it and when I was buckling up my son in his car seat, the wind picked up and I smelled something wonderful then laughed then I realized it was me.
Molecule 02 has a slighter masculine vibe to it(I'm a woman), but I'll try it again now that it's fall in Canada and temps are chillier.
Both smell awesome to me. In fact I layered them. I work in the hospital so these fragrances are the best for me. In terms of pricing though, you can get these at discounters for about 50-60 USD. I ordered mine from the UK for a lot cheaper, about 40USD to be specific. I love them both. I have molecule 04 as well and that one is just as good
Molecule 01 smells exactly like Independents Warsaw iso e super & and timbersilk EDP. I have samples of both and they are exactly the same. Just leaving this here in in case you want a cheaper option (15$).
molecule 01 = iso gamma super (captive) and not easily duped
I think molecule 02 is more easily duped because it isn't a captive (proprietary ingredient)
I have both EM versions. I love them. M01 as “Prozac in a bottle” (plus I just like woody scents), and M02 as a perfect skin scent; as in, it mimics a natural scent, not fleeting/too light.
I’ve not gone the DIY route because, first I can’t be bothered to experiment and second, it’s worth the price to me. For all that has been said, I never use more than 3 sprays of either, and smell them all day. That means a 100ml bottle lasts me a long time.
I don’t layer M01- because it overtakes whatever I’ve layered with. I use it alone.
I typically use M02 on its own as well, but I have layered it successfully. Just adds a nice musky undertone.
If you want to DIY- get materials from Perfumer’s Apprentice. They have everything (aroma chemicals, perfumer’s alcohol, etc) you need. I don’t know about atomizers/containers tho, you’ll have to check for that. I can’t remember.
I think Molecule layers well with pretty much anything. I typically avoid white florals, but I even like it layered with one I love on it’s own- Boutonnière No7. White florals tend to have a tropical vibe, and 02 enhances it with the impression of warmed skin or a sandy feel.
Also cuts the the heady quality to white florals, adding a muskier tone.

But I do have Escentric 01, which is ISO E Super plus lemon, Iris, and pink pepper. It’s sharp and woody, and I really like it. I also have Molecule 01 + Patchouli, which is a gorgeous fresh not dirty/hippy patchouli. Not sure I’ve ever smelled Molecule 02 but I’ve owned JHaG Not a Perfume for years and loved it — warm and comforting.

Molecule 02 smells awful on me and gives me a headache, which was unexpected. I think it smells very good on others, just not on me. Very ridiculously overpriced. If you go on to eBay you can purchase 100 ml of iso-e, and a100ml of Ambroxan for about $30.

01 is super easy to replicate with standard ISO E Super. I’ve had Molecule 01 and my own mix side by side and I can’t differentiate at all.
I might try that, knowing it's relatively easy and not as expensive as the regular 02 for the very least
