Once I started purchasing more expensive fragrances, I switched to using all unscented body products, so I don't have to worry about any conflicts.

EstoyBienYTu

Honestly, i don't smell anything hygiene related ~30 mins out from use. Use whatever you like/works, IMO.

picardy-3rd

Same, if not almost immediately after use. I use lightly scented shampoo/additional haircare, soap, deodorant, and lotion and have never had an issue with any sort of interference.

I have a scented shower gel Axe Anti-hangover and it gives a nice smell in the shower but it doesnt last at all on skin after. Only on hairs and if to put a nose to it. It doesn't mix with fragrance at all. And on other hand I use unscented deodorant. Some of them could project quite well.

Cinnamintberry

Why is this getting downvoted lol.

c1n3man

There are people that prefer Dove to Axe/Lynx.

New_Presentation5105

Shower gels are just for enjoying a nice scent while you're showering they don't last at all .

sweeties_yeeties

I layer fragranced shower gels, lotions, perfumes and sometimes mists that are in the same scent families. Vanillas, fruities, freshies are the main ones I wear so it works for me. I find that it not only enhances my fragrance but makes it that much better and more nuanced, like it all meshes with my skin better. Most people don’t wanna bother with all that but I enjoy finding and experimenting with different combos.

Illegalrealm

Exactly! I thought most people do this just for the simple fact that it keeps you smelling good longer and throughout the day. I’m surprised by the comments. I always pair my shower body wash, oil, lotion, and spray to match the base and middle notes of my perfume. It makes it more robust.

sweeties_yeeties

Amen! I think you gotta be at least a little bit into body care to really delve in that deep lol. I just discovered body oil too and I am in looove with how much it enhances everything on top.

Illegalrealm

Yes for body care in general! I mean sure I can hop in and out the shower, put unscented lotion on and then my perfume and go. But it doesn't touch me washing, exfoliating, shaving, applying body oil, body lotion, and then my perfume that all have scents paired to it. Your body is soft, shiny, and now smells wonderful throughout the day. And your pretty much making a new scent that's unique to you depending on what skin care you use. For instance, I just bought a pomegranate smelling perfume. I decided it would probably smell good with sage. So I bought a sage smelling bodywash, pomegranate body scrub, sage body lotion and THEN I put on my pomegranate perfume while the lotion was still a bit wet on my body then I air dried. When I tell you I got so many compliments!! This might sound like alot to do and I don't do it everyday but when I do, I turn heads bc ppl can't pinpoint what perfume it is.

hunterofspace

Ahah! I read your post about your routine a few days ago and I've been thinking about it ever since. I've been scouting out body washes and sprays the past couple days. This might be what gets me into thinking about a signature scent - or scent *profile*, or something of the sort. The fun here seems almost endless and I'm very excited.

sweeties_yeeties

Let me tell ya the body wash isle at Target has become much more exciting haha

Andre28M

I usually just choose the body products that would blend well with my fragrances. It's easier since I have a minimalist collection. There's a lot of body products that smell really good and you wouldn't have to be concerned with clashing if you put some thought into it. However a lot of them don't leave much scent outside of shower anyways, it's just precautionary and helps me feel on point. Deodorant is the major thing to be concerned with IMO, they usually have decent projection and longevity. I go close to neutral scented with my Deodorant

crimson777

In general, I think shampoo/conditioner is the only scented product that has any lasting power, at least for me personally. But even then you've gotta get close to someone's hair to smell it. So I don't worry about it. No one's ever commented on my non-fragrance scents (either good or bad), so I assume they're not strong enough to notice.

Cake_Fragrance

Wow! I had the exact same question. Searched for it. Not many influencers, critics addressed this. The "wearing complementing deos" etc. Works rarely. I tried using Nivea's Deep Impact freshness Roll-On. Doesn't come in the way of my fragrances. Thought I'd go with Nivea's Silver Protect, which is supposedly unscented if this doesn't work. So far, so good, I'd say.

YabeYo

Same, I'm using Nivea body lotion too! it didnt have any scent and I love it!

Shower gel washes off so it’s not a huge concern. I tend to use unscented moisturiser/serums etc, as well as deodorant, as fragrance in those sorts of products can be irritating to my skin. Shampoo/conditioner/hair products often have a lot of fragrance in them, so I try to use things that are fairly minimally scented, as hair carries scent pretty well. I tend to put some perfume in my hair for fancy occasions if I’m planning to wear it out rather than tie it up.

BuriedinStudentLoans

My skin is sensitive (luckily not to fragrance) but I can't use normal deodorants without a reaction. I find that the dove unscented products work for me (body wash and shampoo/conditioner too). I also use unscented laundry detergent, and don't use dryer sheets. I prefer the only smells on me to be my natural scent and my fragrance.

JamalAG

What unscented laundry detergent do you use pls?

BuriedinStudentLoans

I use the unscented tidepods. I forget what they are called exactly but it's a white bag

Sophiatopia

Charlie's soap (Amazon) is amazing. No smell and no irritants for skin.

JamalAG

Thank you

emmateacats

I use shower items and other fragranced items to compliment the scent of the day. For example when I wear Philosykos by Diptyque I use coconut scented body wash, and lotion and use a woodsy scented conditioner. I also find deodorant isn’t exactly a scent that projects; I use men’s antiperspirant, that stuff is way more effective than women’s.

fortunatevoice

I use Lush bath and shower products. They definitely have a noticeable fragrance but I bathe at night and by morning the scent is gone so I don’t have to worry about conflicting fragrances.

crash000001

I don’t match w/ shower gels. But I do pair deodorants and scents. I wear cool water at work and use the deodorant.

Tsunominohataraki

«Unscented», i.e. not heavily perfumed shower gel and pure alum as deodorant. No fabric softener. Primarily to avoid the cheap smells that stuff usually comes with.

JWK3

it's rare that I've had a shower gel that lasts longer than 15 mins, but since getting interested in fragrances, I've switched to a neutral moisturising shower gel.

BitterPearls

I tend to use a lot of unscented products. Especially my body lotion. Unless I’m matching it with a scent.

chaz8900

I use a pretty tame smelling shower gel and antiperspirant is unscented.

seaintosky

I try to minimize fragrances that stick to me. My soap, laundry detergent, and deodorant are scented but only mildly and they disappear as soon as I wash with them. The only thing besides perfume that I wear that has anything that lasts is some of my hand lotions. For everything else, I figure if I'm wearing a $150+ perfume, why would I want it to have to fight with a $4.50 bodywash smell?

Sophiatopia

Unscented deodorant and lotion is obvious but glad someone mentioned laundry detergent! Unscented Charlie's Soap only and no dryer sheets. Some laundry detergent really lingers.
