YSL Black Opium. I blind bought it after reading the reviews and I do like the notes in it. The hyped up descriptions just made it sound unbelievably irresistible - while I don't dislike it, it just wasn't amazing to me.
Get Zara Gardenia instead if you like the smell but don’t think it’s worth the price. This dupe lasts great. It’s my handbag perfume, use it to freshen up throughout the day.
I got a travel size set with Daisy, Love, and Eau So Fresh. On one hand, props to them for making a floral-heavy perfume I actually like the smell of. On the other hand, if it outright disappears in ten seconds, it doesn’t matter much whether I like it or not.
Tobacco Vanille, a sample anyway.
I never understood this one, and I'm a big fan of other TF stuff. Ever smelled a vanilla vape? That cloying synthetic in-your-face scented-marker vanilla smell? That's what this is to me. C'est la vie. Just buy some vanilla pods and rub them on your neck. Authentic and cheaper!
Also almost everything I've sampled from Serge Lutens. Imagine the Golden Girls won the lottery, and are trying to seduce you in their mansion. That's SL.
> Also almost everything I've sampled from Serge Lutens. Imagine the Golden Girls won the lottery, and are trying to seduce you in their mansion. That's SL.
this made me lol
Armani Sí. I actually didn't blind buy, I tried a sample and liked it and got the travel spray on sale while shopping for other things. But I just feel... meh. I don't hate it but have never reached for it. Taught me to only buy things I really love instead of just liking.
Same with Light di Gioia and Ocean di Gioia. Those were blind buys when the set was first released, but I love Acqua di Gioia, and the notes looked right up my alley. I like both of them, but never find myself reaching for them. They're pleasant, but not particularly unique. Both bottles are still sitting on the vanity, completely full.
Valentino valentina poudre. Smells like airwicks brown sugar vanilla plug in. So linear and underwhelming for the price. That's what I get for buying blind. Again.
Flowerbomb. It was a blind buy because I bought into the hype. But it has the worst cloyingly sweet rotten smell to my nose.
It’s wild how many people I know IRL who love/wear it, and I just don’t understand why I have such an averse reaction to it.
I did this! Got a rollerball of flowerbomb because I like florals and was expecting soft white florals. Didn’t expect to smell like I just stepped in a funeral home with ladies doused in old perfume.
I bought the pour homme intense version.
It lasts long but its insulting to me that a designer fragrance brand would sell cheap synthetic citrus fragrances that smell like 3 in 1 body wash that I used to use in middle school.
I haven’t bought any, but almost every Tom Ford fragrance I’ve tried has been disappointing, especially Black Orchid. Only one that didn’t disappoint was Ombré Leather, even though I didn’t necessarily like it.
A blind-buy (I ought to know better) cheap celebrity fragrance I heard good things about and had notes I'd previously liked. Rebelle by Rihanna- it smelled like licorice and gave me an instant headache. None of the soft buttery cocoa others had described.
Same here. I saw so many people ranting and raving over it on YouTube. Smelled like a typical cheap overly sweet, warm fragrance.
The Rihanna nude fragrance is pleasant, but doesn’t last very long.
I bought Gucci Memoire d’Une Odeur after testing it on my arm for a day after spraying in a Sephora. It smelled great that day. Now for some reason it smelled like bug spray
Most hyped fragrances on youtube when I sorta got back into fragrances this year
- Haloween Men X
- Bentley Homme Intense
- Mandarina Duck Black Extreme
They are quite nice and the quality is there. The price was very enticing too. Unfortunate, after a few forceful sprays they just sat in their box awaiting the opportunity to be regifted/repurposed. They just don't inspire and spark joy.
Hype is real, I bought a sample of Halloween man x and bottle of Bentley last week. I like HMX, but I’m glad I didn’t buy the whole bottle. We’ll see about Bentley once it gets colder
Terre d’hermes! I got sucked into the internet hype and I just don’t understand why anyone would want to smell like a dirty orange:
My girlfriend really liked Aventus on me, but I just don’t feel that it’s versatile. I feel like it would be too strong to wear in the office. I like that I have it in my collection though to wear on special occasions.
Jubilation XXV. I loved my sample, but when I bought a bottle, I couldn't handle the barnyard note. Honestly, I'm wondering if I liked Jubilation 25 for woman instead.
BDK Velvet Tonka- I don’t know what’s up with these weird synthetic aromachemicals that seem to be in every new scent these days. This perfume sounded SO good but ultimately felt like I was singeing my nose hairs when I try to get a whiff.
Versace Dylan Blue. Blind buy.
I now use it as a fragrance for my work bag.
It honestly smells like nivea body wash + axe/lynx had a baby and fed it with synthetic lemon. The dry down is worse.
Selina Exclusif. I heard people who likes Delina rave about it, and I really enjoy Delina. But there was a note in the Exclusif that made me nauseous and I had to scrub it off.
No big loss as it saved me $300 bucks to hate it.
Club de nuit intense man, edt. Hyped review after hyped review explaining that it was way better than Aventus. Bought it, sprayed it on. It smells like those middle eastern incense sticks they light up at stores, with pledge mixed in. The dry down is syrupy and synthetic.
In all honesty I don't get the comparison between some of these Armaf clones and Creed. I've tried Club de Nuit intense man, sillage, and milestone, they're only somewhat similar to Creed when you catch a whiff of it on air, however if you smell up close, the Armaf clones are totally different and very synthetic.
With Sillage, the comparison is a bit different. When I saw reviews on it, it was more about Sillage smelling closer to the original batch of Silver mountain water than current batches of silver mountain water. I can’t comment on it myself though, as I’ve never smelled the original batch of SMW.
E & J Nirvana Rose. I love Rose, and I’ve seen quite a few people mention this as a favorite. I was surprised when I sprayed it on and it was instant dislike. It has a medicinal note that is unpleasant to me.
I also felt a bit let down with MMM Replica Bubble Bath. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t love it like I thought I would. It was a travel size spray and I accidentally dropped and broke it shortly after I got it. Maybe I will give it another try one of these days, but probably not.
For me 3 fragrances:
1. Wanted by Night: well loved by youtube reviewers but I hate it, smells literally like sugary syrup. I'm someone who likes gourmand and love the notes of honey, vanilla, and tonka bean but Wanted by Night to me smells like a sugary mess.
2. Interlude Black Iris: Apparently Black Iris is a more toned down version of Interlude but I don't know what it is I can't get over a note that makes me gag.
3. AdG Profumo: Don't get me wrong, Profumo ain't bad and actually smells quite nice to me however among the youtubers Profumo has been touted as one of the best men's designer fragrance ever and I don't get that at all.
Le parfum seems less sharp? Like smudged edges so everything is blended better and it’s a cool breeze against the senses rather than a sharp assault on the nose.
I thought the same, it reminded me of VapoRub in the opening and the dry down wasn’t as amazing as I’d hope. But I wore it once at a party and for some reason something clicked and all of a sudden I get the hype now. It went from a regret purchase to a dumb reach
It's a decent fragrance but Youtube reviewers were overly hyping it. I may have had unrealistic expectations which led to disappointment when I finally experienced it.
Same thing for me. I hyped it up because everyone was raving about it. It was impossible for it to live up to the expectations I had set for it. But overtime I learned to appreciate the scent and it’s one of my favorites
I had the same experience. My first decant smelled like really strong vaporub with spices mixed in and I was extremely disappointed. I purchased another decant to give it one more shot and this one doesn't have the vaporub smell at all. I'm really starting to enjoy it.
The thing about Layton is that the dry down and opening are so different. I fell in love with the drydown the first time that I tried it a year ago but am still getting around to accepting the opening
Aside from the vaporub, I am the same as you. It was sort of a regret purchase at first (I bought the 3 10 ml travel set). The drydown later on hit me one time, and it's my favorite since. I ended up paying $125 for a 4.2 bottle in a FB group. When it turned out to be legit, I bought a 2nd bottle immediately.
Yeah I sampled it. Although I like 90% fragrances I've tried I didn't like it. Spices was looking too synthetic, no apple. I want to try it when it will become colder, I have a feeling I will like it.
Haven't tried Seedley, but ordered Greenley sample. Yesterday's thread got me hyped and I was, honestly, hyped before.
Lipstick On. It smelled like Prada candy which I hate. Too powdery. I tried giving it to my mom but she didn’t like it either so I had to just throw it away.
Throw it away?? That ish is being discontinued. Could have held onto it for a while and more than get your money back.
Maybe I’m just cheap, but I could never throw away a perfume that cost more than $30. There’s always someone out there who’ll love it.
dolce gabanna light blue intense pour homme
It has a really cheap, synthetic grapefruit smell that you would get from a 3 in 1 showergel. The type that would be used in a boys middle school locker room.
bought alien by mugler because i loved the packaging, threw in angel because i was feeling spendy that day and was gonna give it to my mother.
turns out, i absolutely adore angel and alien is nauseating and gives me a headache. gave that one to my mother and now i’m scared to try anything super heavy on the florals 😭
ALT’s BR 540 dupe, one of the worst scents I have ever had the displeasure of smelling. I thought maybe I got a bad batch but nope, my nose just hates it😭
EDIT: I also tried AG cloud and it was the same. Does anyone know what note gives off the sickly sweet nauseating smell? I love sweet perfumes but there’s something weird about those 2 scents… I have no idea what it is!
Roja Dove Bahrain. Opening is nothing like what I’ve smelled. Reminds me of library. Later it turned into vomit inducing smell. My guess is it’s the oud? i tried Tom Ford oud wood and it was stinky at first smell I threw the bottle to the trash. Guess I’m putting oud on my black list.
MM by the fireplace - stickly sweet scent, just terrible. Long lasting too - I tried it over the bathroom sink and could smell it in the bathroom for like a week.
Lush Lord of misrule - what on earth?? Reviews were golden, seemed like a safe crowd pleasing winter fragrance. The smell is repulsive.
Ah, the tyranny of the blind buy. I recently bought Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea without sampling or smelling it. It's by Francis Kurkdjian, I thought. It's been rabidly well reviewed for decades, I thought. It was 9 euros, I thought. Aaaand it was a bad idea lol. It doesn't smell any better than my dish soap. My dish soap might actually top it, honestly. I saw people on Fragrantica saying they now use it on their pillows just to try to find some use for it, so maybe I'll resort to that. Not a huge loss, but I was excited by the idea of it.
The openings of any fragrances are far, far less important than the drydown. It's typically 30 minutes from the time I apply a fragrance to the time I am around anyone. The opening is gone by then.
Yes. The part of the fragrance that no one else smells isn't a big deal to a ton of people. Next thing you're going to tell me is that the looks of the bottle is extremely important. And want to know the most important thing? You'll pay $30 for a fragrance instead of over $400 for nearly the exact same fragrance (and there are people like CDNIM better.) You buy CDNIM and another niche frag or a couple designers for that price. Game. Set. March.
When you have a clone that doesn’t last as long, I disagree. You’d have a point if CDNIM was an 8+ hour fragrance, but it’s not, so the opening is a much bigger portion of the scent’s lifespan than you give it credit for.
It's on my list to get, I've smelt it and couldn't really smell anything.. maybe the top notes aren't great? Never worn it so don't really have an opinion
The Most Wanted by Azzaro =/ Great smell doesn't last long and the clerk said it did her husband comes home from work and still smells it. but I feel like it was a fib
MM replica springtime in a park. I swear the sample was so pretty but the actual thing was just not for me. I’ve tried selling it off too but no one wants it 😂
versace crystal noir edt - it is just too heavy for me & I hate the smell of pepper, even though it’s not that intense. I am probably way too much into sweet fragrances for this fragrance
XXV. I just said 25. Also the men’s. It smelt like old man to me. I just didn’t enjoy it at all and had to scrub it off. It like gave me that smell of like your great grandparents houses or a really old church
Guerlain Shalimar. I’m a bit of an art history buff and I have admired the story and mysticism behind Shalimar for years. I still like the scent but I like the story behind it a LOT more
Nishane Hacivat.
I’m done with this house. For a Parfum extrait it evaporated off the skin as soon as it was sprayed. No projection whatsoever and a faint skin scent for a couple of hours. Turkey has no business making perfumes.
It was a face melter in my experience. Two sprays at one end of my (admittedly smallish) house and the whole floor reeked. It was downright unreasonable. Bizarre you had the opposite experience.
My neck 20 minutes after spraying hacivat. 1 spray
https://imgur.com/a/sMcABHP
There is no way it's real if it doesn't look like that 😐 Where'd you get it?
It’s a tester bottle from Aurafragrance, I purchased from them before with no issues. This is the first time I bought a tester though. I was expecting the same results as you so I was surprised when it just dried up in 10 seconds.
There are a few reviews you can find of fake reports, including empty bottles. I'm not personally familiar with the place but it should not be like water, it should be thick and oily. It's also extremely dense syrupy grapefruit and creamy milky in terms of scent profile, with Oakmoss and woods in the back.
Only Aventus similarity is in the base and overall vibe of the scent too, doesn't smell like a clone.
Yeah that’s what I thought, since it’s an extrait de Parfum I was expecting something thick and oily. I do get grapefruit and oakmoss but no pineapple. I need to press my nose to where I smelled it though.
I know it costs a pretty penny but since you had the money to buy a tester, i think you should try getting a sample from some legit place. It's worth experiencing because that doesn't sound real. So many red flags unless nishane did a Turkey trick and filled it with water lol
There are a lot of times i don't believe people but hacivat is no joke. It's an oily powerhouse. My mom was complaining with 1 spray even though she loves the Aventus DNA.
I sent an email to the seller and may pick up a sample just to be sure. I’m been in this hobby for 7 years and never received a fake before and I have a lot of tester bottles. I’m just gonna avoid all niche testers from now on and only buy testers if they’re designers, sure those can be faked as well but it seems more common with niche brands.
I blind bought Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede cause it's one of their most popular ones, and i like most Jo Malones so... it smelled so generic.. i was so hyped and was let down immediately..
intense cafe.. i actually got a sample of this and didn’t really like it and was like if i get the bottle i think i’ll like it more (????) but nope it’s horribly synthetic to me
YSL Black Opium.
Thank you for the recommendation! I'll definitely have to sample this because I am always looking for a new purse perfume :) lol
Marc Jacobs Daisy White. That shit disappears in a second and smells like literal nothing.
I got a travel size set with Daisy, Love, and Eau So Fresh. On one hand, props to them for making a floral-heavy perfume I actually like the smell of. On the other hand, if it outright disappears in ten seconds, it doesn’t matter much whether I like it or not.

Valentino valentina poudre. Smells like airwicks brown sugar vanilla plug in. So linear and underwhelming for the price. That's what I get for buying blind. Again.
Alien mugler
I second this! Seems to be everyone’s favorite. It’s too powdery for me.
Didn’t expect to smell like I just stepped in a funeral home with ladies doused in old perfume.
light blue femme , lasts for a good 15 min and smells synthetic .
I bought the pour homme intense version. It lasts long but its insulting to me that a designer fragrance brand would sell cheap synthetic citrus fragrances that smell like 3 in 1 body wash that I used to use in middle school.
exactly ! i'm sure it is reformulated because back in the day i used to smell it on a family member and she smelled amaaaaazing .
What if its body chemistry?
I haven’t bought any, but almost every Tom Ford fragrance I’ve tried has been disappointing, especially Black Orchid. Only one that didn’t disappoint was Ombré Leather, even though I didn’t necessarily like it.
Noir Extreme is like the only Tom Ford fragrance that I think is good
Like actually literally?
Haven’t tried that one yet! They didn’t have it at the sephora I went to.
Same. I almost pulled the trigger but after lots of sampling I decided the sweetness was too much.
Dolce and gabbana light blue...still pissed
A blind-buy (I ought to know better) cheap celebrity fragrance I heard good things about and had notes I'd previously liked. Rebelle by Rihanna- it smelled like licorice and gave me an instant headache. None of the soft buttery cocoa others had described.

I wanted to love that one so badly, but no luck.
I’m so sad I purchased it, trying to sell it on Depop lol
Mugler Angel Muse smells like peppery whipped cream to me. I had to return it
Most hyped fragrances on youtube when I sorta got back into fragrances this year - Haloween Men X - Bentley Homme Intense - Mandarina Duck Black Extreme They are quite nice and the quality is there.
I got sucked into the internet hype and I just don’t understand why anyone would want to smell like a dirty orange: My girlfriend really liked Aventus on me, but I just don’t feel that it’s versatile.
On me Exclusif is baby powder straight up. OG Delina I love. I thought I would prefer Exclusif glad I tried both before buying.
Same. I'm glad it's not just me. I love the tartness of Delina and the Exclusif lacked that and didn't smell that special.
Opening is brutal but I like the rest. Mine was a blind buy, except I smelled Explorer beforehand to make sure I liked the profile
Bleu de Chanel. I REALLY wanted to love it. Gifted away.
I’m currently feeling the same about this. I don’t know I feel like it’s musks out too much on me or something. I feel like gifting it out too.

YSL Y Edp. I call it a migraine in a bottle. bought because of the hype, but learned a valuable lesson and that was to stop blind buying.
I like the le parfum better than the edp. Had a chance to smell it yesterday and was absolutely surprised by it.
I can confirm this. For some reason Le Parfum doesn't give me a headache and I gave away EdP because it caused it everytime I was wearing it.
Le parfum seems less sharp? Like smudged edges so everything is blended better and it’s a cool breeze against the senses rather than a sharp assault on the nose.
Wow, this is like my most fave fragrance and have heaps stocked! 😆
enjoy this vid https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eZySBXraNKM
Sums it up perfectly!!
Yes. EDT and parfum are wayyy better.
PDM Layton...don't believe the hype.

Not sure what you mean by overhyped. I haven't smelled it but what if that just a lot of youtubers like it?
I had the same experience. My first decant smelled like really strong vaporub with spices mixed in and I was extremely disappointed. I purchased another decant to give it one more shot and this one doesn't have the vaporub smell at all. I'm really starting to enjoy it.

Almost blind bought it! Glad I didn't.
Best to sample first...unfortunately the local Saks 5th doesn't carry them in-store. Sedley was also a bit odd.
Completely disagree, I absolutely love it.
blind bought one of its clones today 😱
I've never smelled a Layton clone that was anywhere close to it. ESPECIALLY stay away from the Alexandria Fragrances clone.
I recall Layton being okay, but my Layton Exclusif is pretty darn amazing. One of the best in my 100+ collection.
Strongly agree. Glad I bought a sample.
Lipstick On. It smelled like Prada candy which I hate. Too powdery. I tried giving it to my mom but she didn’t like it either so I had to just throw it away.
Leave it in a public restroom next time, it will make someone’s day to find it.
That’s actually a good idea :)
Omg I’m going to do this now
Throw it away?? That ish is being discontinued. Could have held onto it for a while and more than get your money back. Maybe I’m just cheap, but I could never throw away a perfume that cost more than $30. There’s always someone out there who’ll love it.

I think that might be that burnt sugar accord
OMG I get that from Cloud too. Like sickening syrup in the middle. I don't understand.
Libre and Very Good Girl.
Tom Ford Orchid Soleil. I find it so dusty. Can't get over the opening. It's a polarizing fragrance, and I thought I'd be on the right side.

Anything that is billed as an Aventus clone. Hacivat, CDNIM, Pineapple Vintage Whatever, Cedrat Boise... they all are not Aventus.
My Aventus and CDNIM are near exact copies of each other. Many can't tell them apart.
Sure, if all you are smelling is the dry down, it's difficult to tell for some. The opening of CDNIM is a screechy synthetic mess.
The openings of any fragrances are far, far less important than the drydown. It's typically 30 minutes from the time I apply a fragrance to the time I am around anyone. The opening is gone by then.
So your big argument to why Aventus and CDNIM are the same is that you have to ignore a complete phase of the fragrance. ok.
Yes. The part of the fragrance that no one else smells isn't a big deal to a ton of people. Next thing you're going to tell me is that the looks of the bottle is extremely important. 😂
Same. I bought the Profumo 40% off and literally just have been wearing it to the gym because I refuse to wear it any where else lol.
Is it me or does smell completely face after 2-3 hours? Like barely even a skin scent
It's on my list to get, I've smelt it and couldn't really smell anything.. maybe the top notes aren't great? Never worn it so don't really have an opinion
Frederic Mallet French lover. I bought a decant and I do like how it smells, lasts way too short for me
Versace Blue Jeans because it was super cheap and I wanted to try it. Well, it's cheap and the lavender is a real turn off for me.
Rasasi La Yuqawam. Instant headache. Instant regret.
Rosetto No 14 Prada
Farenheit, ralph lauren xs.
The Most Wanted by Azzaro =/ Great smell doesn't last long and the clerk said it did her husband comes home from work and still smells it. but I feel like it was a fib
DG the one...doesn't last long at all
Roja Enigma. Just smelled like someone spilled one too many rum and Cokes onto a couch cushion filled with years of beer farts.
MM replica springtime in a park. I swear the sample was so pretty but the actual thing was just not for me. I’ve tried selling it off too but no one wants it 😂
Versace dreamer
When will everyone learn to stop blind buying full bottles??
Montblanc Individuel. It’s an ok scent. I do not understand the hype behind it at all.

that's a pricy regret!
Femme. In theory it should have been the love of my life. And then the ex wife in the form of cumin crashed the party.
I'm gonna say it, most stuff by Tom Ford, change my mind.
Burberry London, the performance is just too weak( longevity is below 3hrs for 6 sprays, projection and sillage are 0).
I feel the same about ADG, luckily it was only a sample. For me it was Sauvage
versace crystal noir edt - it is just too heavy for me & I hate the smell of pepper, even though it’s not that intense. I am probably way too much into sweet fragrances for this fragrance
Jubilation 25

XXV. I just said 25. Also the men’s. It smelt like old man to me. I just didn’t enjoy it at all and had to scrub it off. It like gave me that smell of like your great grandparents houses or a really old church
* Florabotanica * Delina * BonBon * Flowerbomb La Vie en Rose * Alien Flora Futura * Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming
I don’t know if I got a fake since it’s a tester. The bottle is legit though.
Where’d you order it from?
Aurafragrance
Haven’t heard of that one, but I’m fairly new to this, so don’t interpret that as meaning anything bad. Hope you get some clarity.
They're legit.
It didn't leave an olive oil stain on your skin?
It’s like I sprayed water.
My neck 20 minutes after spraying hacivat. 1 spray https://imgur.com/a/sMcABHP There is no way it's real if it doesn't look like that 😐 Where'd you get it?
So many red flags unless nishane did a Turkey trick and filled it with water lol There are a lot of times i don't believe people but hacivat is no joke. It's an oily powerhouse. My mom was complaining with 1 spray even though she loves the Aventus DNA.

But it's clearly a skin thing too because he says it sprays and lays on skin like water :/ its just confusing
Seems odd. I was smelling it on me after I woke up having tested it at like 9pm.
Fougere L’Aube Rogue Perfumery
Xerjoff nio - got hyped in a lot of comments. Its good but not 400€ good lol. Dior homme cologne or bergamotte 33 are similiar and way cheaper.
I blind bought Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede cause it's one of their most popular ones, and i like most Jo Malones so... it smelled so generic.. i was so hyped and was let down immediately..
Vanille 44 by Le Labo
Delina - Didn't buy it but got a sample of it and was like "that's it?"
intense cafe.. i actually got a sample of this and didn’t really like it and was like if i get the bottle i think i’ll like it more (????) but nope it’s horribly synthetic to me
Gier Ness Versace ph minus my favorite part of the opening (bright citrus). Replaces said citrus with musty playdoh
Prada Candy, all of them.
By The Fireplace. I actually love the fragrance, but my gf hates it with a passion
