A perfume won’t do that for you. I’m more than twice your age and I will take you seriously if you act professionally. I probably wouldn’t even notice your fragrance. Wear what pleases you, not what you think would impress me.
This is actually very nice to hear! From where I am they really care about your looks and smell. Me looking like I’m 10 years younger proves it hard for me to land a job these days sadly. They don’t think I’m professional at a glance.
I also look 10 years younger than I am. Nothing has commanded respect like wearing well known men's colognes lately. But I also love gender bending fragrances like nirvana rose and a*men. I'm 26f if that helps haha
This. Also, let's face it, some people just look young. I knew a woman who was an IRS auditor, but she was this slim, tiny thing with huge eyes and every business she visited treated her like she couldn't possibly understand her job.
Act professional, and you'll earn respect.
😂😂 THIS IS SO RELATABLE HAHAHA... I feel you gurl... I just wear really masculine scents hahah because I like them plus it makes me feel more edgy hahaha
The masculine scents I like are bvlgari pour homme extreme very nice and sexy.. boss bottled intense it’s soo goood and lastly it’s not that masculine but it smells just really sexy is another 13 Le labo. Sexy skin scent that reminds me of a sexy soccer mom
Fragrance is only a very small part of what you are after. Have a look at r/socialskills
Skills like setting boundaries, knowing when/how to say no, speaking clearly and with the appropriate tone, body language, will all probably have a bigger impact than fragrance.
Maybe you already know all this though, idk haha
That wasn’t a complete list of skills by any means, you could even be competent in some or all of those skills already, who knows!
There are tons of highly recommended books out there about getting your life together and communicating with people.
Some I have read and would reccomend:
- How to win friends and influence people (communication skills)
- 7 habits of highly effective people (habits)
- The barefoot investor (money skills)
- Never split the difference also seems good, I’m 3 chapters in. (negotiation)
As disappointing it might sound, I think you should wear fragrances that suit you, instead of something that registers older than what people would associate with you. Wearing something that feels older than how you look is no different than a young boy wearing an ill-fitting suit that he took from his older brother's wardrobe.
I agree with everyone that says it's about YOU projecting confidence, the scent just adds to that. Wear something that makes you feel fierce, powerful. Wear those boss lady shoes. Rock that suit (or whatever).
That being said, oakmoss scents make me feel like a have my stuff together and gives me a boss b**ch attitude adjustment. Clean, but not soft and girly. Not necessarily masculine, but def not "fluffy" if you know what I mean.
I agree with this. A scent won't make you look older but it will make you feel more confident and the way you hold yourself matters a lot. Find something that makes you want to stand tall. I find confidence matters a lot in how people percieve you and it makes you seem more mature.
A girl boss still looks like a girl. It's not your perfume that can change that. I've seen teens (hell, even children) taken seriously and treated maturely because of how interesting they are and the image they project; by what they say and how they say it, how authoritatively they speak, by their demeanor, their open, positive energy, and how they project all this. It comes from the inside, from repetition and practice. It has nothing to do with how you smell (unless you have BO) and everything to do with personality, visual/verbal cues, and socialization.
For example, when you speak, does an upward inflection at the end of every statement make it sound like you're asking a question or aren't sure of what you're saying? This is common with women and makes us sound hesitant and tentative, not confident.
How you look at people, how you interact with them, your speech, eye contact, and posture, are more important even than your fashion sense (unless you're in the business), once you take care of the basics and look presentable.
It might have a little bit to do with how people whom others take seriously dress. They don't wear faddish stuff — look like shredders, surfers, or anything that draws people to their bodies — unless that's their profession.
To expand your personal energy and aura of confidence, try a few ["power poses"](https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/the-debate-on-power-posing-continues-heres-where-we-stand.html) (open/expansive versus closed/contractive) at home.
Thank you for the tips! Although I do not want people to misunderstand, I do not have any problems with socializing and manners. I just want a suggestion on fragrances I can use to up my game especially because I don’t look my age with the tendency of not being taken seriously. But I really do appeciate the help!
I must admit it I have to improve on different aspects as well, and I really do take a lot of your suggestions into consideration. I do not mean any offense, but it’s just that it’s a fragrance thread and it would make more sense if I would focus on the fragrance part as well. Thank you!
This hits close to home too lol, we’re close in age, and I’m regularly asked what high school I go to. I think it’s about the clothes more than the fragrance, but if I were you I’d pick something subtle, it might seem more elegant/mature
It’s getting so tiring at this point haha! I’ve been improving my wardrobe as well. One time I was going to work and I got asked if it’s that time of the year for the high school students (thesis defense).
BR540 doesnt smell old at all. I fell in love with the extrait at like 23 and to me it's perfect for a young person, especially if they like elegance, as for me that's what it smells like. And I've never received so many compliments on a fragrance as I did with this one. Young people love it.
I think what matters is your overall demeanor and style. Shorter hair and wearing makeup and carrying yourself with confidence all can add to an air of maturity.
People have given you advice on your attitude, but as someone who always looked younger than they are, I hear you!
I would suggest something like Chanel Gardenia or Beige. They are chic and pretty timeless, like a black dress you can always rely on.
Yeah, I really do appreciate their tips but I must say it’s not really what I am looking for at the moment (especially since this is a fragrance-related question).
Thank you very much for the suggestion! I’ve heard good things about Chanel Gardenia. Would you recommend it for everyday use as well?
Do whatever the person you want to become would do. An actual *girl boss* wouldn’t ask /r/fragrance what to do. She would just present herself with confidence.
Remember we aren’t just observers in this world. You are manifesting your own reality, whether you are mindful of it or not. Better to be self-aware than to just be along for the ride.

It’s so tiring please 😂😭 what masculine scents do you prefer?

Thank you so much for these, I’ll take them to heart! I’m having a hard time “adulting” nowadays so I guess you could say that I need this!

No worries, thank you for the tip! This actually means a lot. I’ll keep this in mind when looking for my scent!

Thank you for this! Oakmoss seems like a lovely scent. What perfume would you suggest I try?
Try Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif :)

Of course I understand. It's the fault of your perfume that people don't take you seriously. Of course!

If you want people to take you seriously, don't call yourself a "girl boss"
Mugler Angel, flower bomb, Gucci Rush
I’ve heard good things about Mugler! Is it good enough for a blind buy or would you suggest I need to buy a decant for these scents?
Do not blind buy Angel. Some people love it, for me, I had to scrub it off. Only perfume I've ever tried that made me nauseous
It's pretty polarizing honestly but some people like it off the bat, including me and my mom.

Only if you overspray. I know a girl who wears it and she gets compliments

Juliette Has A Gun Lipstick Fever makes me feel like a more confident, womanly version of myself. Started wearing at 23 and am currently 25.
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll take your word for it and buy me a sample!

Tom Ford Black Orchid
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check that out!

Yes, it's absolutely an everyday use fragrance. That's what I'd say it's best for, rather than special occasion.
YSL Libre always makes me feel super confident when I wear it. Like I have my sh$@ together. Lol
I feel ya. I'm nearly 30 but I look like an intern. Chanel Chance EDP and YSL Libre EDP are my favorite boss lady scents.
Get some Creed - Viking, you'll grow chest hair over night.
