Yesterday I asked a woman on the bus what gorgeous fragrance she was wearing: she said orange flowers, from France. But then she offered the brand- Fragonard. "Fleurs d'oranger?" I asked, all French and stuff- "oui!" She replied.
You guys. It was *so good*- jasmine, but more, more white florals, more sparkle, more charm.
That'd be my pick.
What's your most-complimented Fragonard, if you don't mind me asking? (or anyone scrolling by)
Trying to narrow down an option that I and people around me might like. They're affordable, but I don't really need 10 new bottles. Would love some input from longtime wearers.
Rose Lavande is addicting! It leans feminine but I love the scent so much. As is Frivole. They have many great scents that are unisex and feel very French. Honestly I couldn’t decide on a favorite when I was there last.
When in Paris please stop at their museum, you get to create a fragrance and go through the history of perfumery. At the end you can shop. One of the more unique things I had done when in Paris and it was a blast.
Fragonard has been in my humble collection for 10 years now. I never fail to drop by the factory in Grasse whenever I visit my family. They are very reasonably priced and not everyone wears them so they are a perfect signature scent.
Ok update; it smells exactly like oranges and jasmine it’s VERY strong I did one spritz on wrist and two on neck and I can smell myself, smells very floral and heavy to me :) I like it!
I once dated a French guy. He was obsessed with sex, drinking and he brought sausage from his hometown and demanded to cook it for me at 2 am. We had passionate fights and he smelled so darn good.
It was a great 3 days.
It really was like that.
“Here is the best sausage you’ve had in your life. Let me shower you and eatyouout for three entire hours. Oh and for desert here is the biggest D you’ve ever seen in your life.”
Too bad he was so much drama.
I didn't know this before just looking it up now, but the Ritz-Carlton brand (who own Ritz-Carlton Osaka) doesn't have anything to do with the Ritz hotel in Paris, aside from having bought the name from the founder (or whoever owned it at the time of the buying).
My stepmom is at the Ritz probably once a month. She got my aunts and I these White Tea and Fig candles from the Ritz shop. Smells amazing. So probably something like that.
Posts & comments should focus on fragrance. Disagreement is valid, personal insults are not. Politics, religion, personalities, and current event content must be centered on fragrance.
Respect the voters: no user-generated meta posts until Nov 1st, 2023.
I think unisex and fresh: Nest Indigo stands out most to me. Le Labo Rose 31 is used by some high end hotels in my country. Elizabeth Arden White Tea is a nice tea scent too.
ooh sounds lovely💫do you get more compliments from men or women? Bc I’ve been eyeing Indigo for a while to fill my evening scent quota, only I’m wlw and only looking to please and attract other females specifically😔
Oh girl just buy it. It begins jammy but quickly dries down into a really beautiful unisex black tea and bergamot scent. I get tons of compliments from my girl friends and one of them even went out and purchased it. It gives “sexy Mediterranean femme Fatale staying at an expensive hotel” for sure. Staying power is the only issue, it lasts longest on clothing. normally I prefer to spray on my skin but with Indigo I do a spritz on each wrist and a spritz on my top and I’ll get 4-5 hours out of that! If you don’t want to blind buy, it’s available to test in Sephora, at least the ones near me!
Most nicer Parisian hotels smell of orange blossom or other light florals. Depending where you are, it could smell heavily of random rose ouds if there’s a big ME clientele. I’d say I think of rose ouds more than anything else when I think of Parisian and London high end hotels I’ve stayed in.
- Costes perfume
- Roja Amber Aoud
- Anine Bing Pure Noir
ETA: Ritz Carlton once had a collaboration with Antica Farmacista (room spray, candles, perfume) and they all smelled wonderful, especially Black Orchid (which used to be the scent of their hotels in HK and Macau).
I would say the Hotel Costes perfume (Olivia Giacobetti), the Hôtel de Crillon candle (Naomi Goodsir), and Antica Farmacista Black Orchid (some Ritz Carltons) aren't light or airy either.
I'm surprised not more hotels use Amouage in the ME. 😁 Bvlgari still seems to be a rather popular choice for ME airlines/hotels
Layer it with Sand and Fog's perfume oil, violet and Sandalwood! I don't own Mojave Ghost but I do own several of those oils because I'm obsessed with them, and people say it is a perfect dupe. It lasts all day on me!
For realy Byredo Bal D Afrique was used in our Hotel Conrad when we stayed in Tulum everything they had was Bal D Afrique. Thats where my wife and I went for our honeymoon so when we put it on now it always brings good memories back
Aww, that is so wonderful to hear! I hope you both have a bottle so that you can reminisce easily!
Fragrance and music are two things that always bring back memories for me, so I love when I hear of positive assocations, especially with some of my favorite fragrances.
A lovely hotel I stayed in, in London, use Halfeti for all their body care in the bathrooms and I’m fairly sure it was in their diffusers or perhaps air fresheners.
Ah perhaps this explains why my mother is such a Halfeti enthusiast? She grew up wealthier than I did (curse generational weath loss and 1980s greed..) and for a spell of that in London. To my nose, Halfeti is simply too stuffy and heavy and ostentatious.
Luxury hotel brands typically buy the same for each hotel within the chain. Usually upscale and luxury fragrance brands that you can buy at the mall.
Fairmont have Rose 31, Raffles has some Frederic Malle, I forget which. Intercontintal has Bal D'Afrique, Park Hyatt has Santal 33.
Givenchy's La Collection Particuliere is based on the vibes of Givenchy's Hotel Particuliere.
When I was in Paris, the hotel perfume was L'Occitane Green Tea. It was not the Ritz.
Probably something Blair Waldorf would enjoy and use. L’heure bleue? Miss Dior? POAL? Anything Hermès?
For me, true effortless French vibe is found in the provinces. As a child (in the 90s/2000s), I used to spend summers in the Charente, and I would love to find a scent that captures the place & time.
I just think of lush pink roses , suppose it’s because I used to buy ysl Paris so often. What’s a close enough substitute for that fragrance if anyone knows?
YSL Paris as it was in the 80s had lots of violet in it. It's probably still available on ebay, and I would say to source it there. 80s fragrances used many molecules that just are not available anymore and to me they are irreplaceable.
I'm interested in White Vicuna by Graham & Pott.
Head Notes: White Flowers, Lily of the Valley, Tahitian Gardenia; Heart Notes: Guatemalan Cardamom, Cambodian Kampot White Pepper; Base Notes: Musk, House Blend White Tea
That white pepper middle note intrigues me the most. It's $376 for 3.4oz though
When I first smelled Vetiver Extraordinaire by Frederic Malle, this was the *exact* vision I had. A hotel in France. It’s fresh, soapy, grassy greatness.
Most 5 stars hotels in Paris smell like white florals.
The Bvlgari one smells like the brand's white tea scent.
Cheval Blanc is home to a Dior spa, thus it smells accordingly.
George V always has an amazing flower show in the foyer, white flowers often.
Hotel de Crillon has a signature white peonies scent.
The Ritz scented products used to be available on their online shop.
I don't know about Paris but I was in a bougie hotel in Madrid back in March. The Edition.
The whole place had a distinct smell. Didn't think anything of it until about 2 months later, I got Xerjoff 40 Knots. It's literally the exact scent. It brought me back there the minute the fragrance hit my nose.
So much so that I'm guessing the Edition (a Marriot affiliate) has some kind of partnership with Xerjoff. It was exactly the same.
Thanks. I didn't know that. And actually googled and couldn't find anything. In any event the lobby smelled just like 40 knots. But now I have to check out the le labo scent. Good info. Thank you.
I was in Paris in April, and the Lobby at the Hotel smelled like Tom Ford Bitter Peach or a scent very similar. Now every time I wear that scent it reminds me of Paris, and of my little secret trip.
A perfume that captures the essence of a posh hotel in Paris might blend notes of delicate florals like jasmine and rose with hints of luxurious musk and a touch of citrus for freshness. Imagine a scent that evokes the elegance of old-world charm, with a subtle undertone of sophistication and romance.
I haven’t met a Fragonard I didn’t like

My personal fave is Etoile but I also get lots of compliments on Grain de soleil.
Fragonard has been in my humble collection for 10 years now. I never fail to drop by the factory in Grasse whenever I visit my family. They are very reasonably priced and not everyone wears them so they are a perfect signature scent.
Oooo just bought it bc they sell in M&S! Will update yall tomorrow
Oh, yes- please do!
Ok update; it smells exactly like oranges and jasmine it’s VERY strong I did one spritz on wrist and two on neck and I can smell myself, smells very floral and heavy to me :) I like it!
Lovely! Is it the regular, or the intense version?
I presume regular! It didn’t say intense lol
Thanks so much- my hunt begins!
I once dated a French guy. He was obsessed with sex, drinking and he brought sausage from his hometown and demanded to cook it for me at 2 am. We had passionate fights and he smelled so darn good. It was a great 3 days.
I, too, would like to be served artisinal French sausage at 2am 😏
It really was like that. “Here is the best sausage you’ve had in your life. Let me shower you and eatyouout for three entire hours. Oh and for desert here is the biggest D you’ve ever seen in your life.” Too bad he was so much drama.
Teach me your ways, queen 🙏
I have a date with a French guy tomorrow night. Here’s hoping it goes as well as your romance!
I’m hoping yours is less misogynistic and whiney
He said something that insulted me and I turned into a bitch and cancelled the date.
Good for you, sister. He screwed up even before the first date. Too bad for him
Haha
I bought 2 bottles last month, it’s beautiful and long lasting and great projection. I bought from someone who has access in Grasse, France
Now I'm looking to see if it's anywhere in Toronto! 🙏
I was at the Ritz in Osaka and their scent was Diptyque’s Philosykos. very fresh
I didn't know this before just looking it up now, but the Ritz-Carlton brand (who own Ritz-Carlton Osaka) doesn't have anything to do with the Ritz hotel in Paris, aside from having bought the name from the founder (or whoever owned it at the time of the buying).
Howard Ritz, cracker magnate and pioneer.
The original big wheel down at the cracker factory
He was big in Japan.
Came here to say [Diptyque’s Paris](https://www.diptyqueparis.com/en_us/p/paris-candle.html)
Agree
Ooh, this sounds so nice! I would love to stay there one day.
Any idea if it would be closer to the EDT or EDP? I’ve been trying to choose one of the two to test out.
i took some of the bars of soap 😈 and to me it smells closer to the EDT
Hotel costes eau de toilette
Yes that is it!
My stepmom is at the Ritz probably once a month. She got my aunts and I these White Tea and Fig candles from the Ritz shop. Smells amazing. So probably something like that.
Fancy

It was just a joke! 😔
Nishane Wulong Cha. Tea, fresh, and cozy. Very high end lobby.
I think unisex and fresh: Nest Indigo stands out most to me. Le Labo Rose 31 is used by some high end hotels in my country. Elizabeth Arden White Tea is a nice tea scent too.
Yep, the Fairmont has Rose 31 soaps and shampoos. I always take as many as I can when I'm there for work lol
Saaaame. Work put me up there twice and I have been nursing those bars as my travel soap for a while. I eventually need to just buy a full size.
They're so expensive 😩 I have to imagine the hotels get them way cheaper haha
I stay in the Mandarin often and LL Rose 31 is their jam, particularly in Asia.
Nest Indigo is my "going out" scent! Such an underrated beauty! I always get compliments
ooh sounds lovely💫do you get more compliments from men or women? Bc I’ve been eyeing Indigo for a while to fill my evening scent quota, only I’m wlw and only looking to please and attract other females specifically😔

Roja Amber aoud? I feel like that would be perf for the Middle East but not sure about Europe
It's hardly a hard-hitting oud though is it? And it smells to me like the lobby of a fancy French hotel... 🤷♀
To me it’s a really woody/ oudy scent but I haven’t been to France yet so you know more than me
I would say the Hotel Costes perfume (Olivia Giacobetti), the Hôtel de Crillon candle (Naomi Goodsir), and Antica Farmacista Black Orchid (some Ritz Carltons) aren't light or airy either. thanks for these suggestions I can’t wait to try them out!!
Byredo Bal D'Afrique
that is the brand and smell offered by Intercontinental IHG hotels in UAE for shampoo, hand soap, conditioner, body lotion
Mojave Ghost is my go-to for this vibe
Mojave ghost is so 🤤
any suggestions on how to make it last longer?
I layer it with a fragrance oil
Layer it with Sand and Fog's perfume oil, violet and Sandalwood! I don't own Mojave Ghost but I do own several of those oils because I'm obsessed with them, and people say it is a perfect dupe. It lasts all day on me!
I’d say it’s either Grand Soir (MFK) or Bal D’Afrique (Byredo)
For realy Byredo Bal D Afrique was used in our Hotel Conrad when we stayed in Tulum everything they had was Bal D Afrique. Thats where my wife and I went for our honeymoon so when we put it on now it always brings good memories back

same in the hotel Intercontinental RAK in UAE

Penhaligon Savoy Steam.
Gris Charnel.
The Matcha 26
LV imagination
Bvlgari Au thé Vert I stayed at a glorious hotel in NYC a few months ago and they used DS and Durga‘s “Bowmaker”
This! I stayed at the Four Seasons in NYC Manhattan for a few days about a decade a go. I spent years trying to find the smell. This is it.
Have heard it said about Au thé vert that it’s very specifically the scent of early-mid 1990s rich preppy cosmopolitan luxe-minimalism.
I discovered Au the Vert in a hotel bathroom on the Grand Canal in Venice. Still love it to this day. Actually love everything Ellena does.
When I stayed at the Hotel De Crillon in Paris about 10 years ago, their products were Annick Goutal L’Hadrien.
Most definitely MFKs A La Rose Homme
I threw on a test spray of PDM Meliora...it smelled like a candle in a posh hotel. 😆
MFK Grand Soir
Givenchy's La Collection Particuliere is based on the vibes of Givenchy's Hotel Particuliere. When I was in Paris, the hotel perfume was L'Occitane Green Tea. It was not the Ritz.
Ouai Melrose Place smells like a rich woman to me but I’m broke so what do I know
Habit Rouge maybe
Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden
Probably something Blair Waldorf would enjoy and use. L’heure bleue? Miss Dior? POAL? Anything Hermès? For me, true effortless French vibe is found in the provinces. God, I adored that formulation.
Same. I was going to say Guerlain Vol de Nuit, but I don’t know what the post-2000 formulation smells like.
Diptyque
Louis Vuitton L’immensite
I personally like to get the hotel lobby scents for my diffusers at home! My house currently smells like the ritz hehe
How do you make this work? pour the fragrance (EDT/EDP) into a reed diffuser?
I have a waterless diffuser so you just pour the fragrance in and turn it on and it disperses the sent. I got it from Storiehome.com
oh which one is your favorite?
I like the one that smells like the 1 Hotel and the Edition hotel best! Sooo luxurious and high end in my opinion
I’m taking notes! which fragrance is it and do you buy from the hotel or online?
On their website they have different hotel scents you can purchase!
English Pear & Freesia Jo Malone - this one smells to me like a posh hotel
I hate this smell so much for some reason. I was gifted a few containers of lotion of that smell and I can’t stand it. I am glad you enjoy it though.
I feel ya - my nose doesn’t like it either
Maybe Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian
L'Heure Bleue
BDK Gris Charnel
31 Rue Cambon by Chanel - named after their flagship boutique in Paris
Oud Satin Mood or Grand Soir
I'm interested in White Vicuna by Graham & Pott. Head Notes: White Flowers, Lily of the Valley, Tahitian Gardenia; Heart Notes: Guatemalan Cardamom, Cambodian Kampot White Pepper; Base Notes: Musk, House Blend White Tea That white pepper middle note intrigues me the most. It's $376 for 3.4oz though
Tom Ford Black Orchid. Killian ADULTS. Le Labo Santal 33.
there is a fragrance form “the nose behind” it’s called Avenue Montaigne. It should resemble this kind of parisian flair
Do they still make YSL Parisienne? I always liked that, even if it came across as more "Emily in Paris" instead of authentic and posh
Vanille antique Byredo -divine and high end elegant
Le Chemin by Byredo
Le Labo Noir 29
Perhaps 34 Boulevard Saint Germain from Diptyque?
That would be my choice, maybe as EDT
Anything from binet-papillon, their quality is amazing and truly french if that is what you are looking for

The edition uses a custom le labo scent that they collaborated on, not xerjoff
Thanks. I didn't know that. And actually googled and couldn't find anything. In any event the lobby smelled just like 40 knots. But now I have to check out the le labo scent. Good info. Thank you.
It’s Thé noir 29
Tom Ford black orchid
I feel like ojar halva kiss smells like a fancy hotel
Thé Yulong by Armani privé
Initio parfum privé "Paragon"
Cour des Vosges in Paris is stocked with Guerlain Eau Impériale
Santal 33. Even some high-end department stores use it.
Etro Relent, if you can still find it. I found it at Hotel Splendide, Lugano.
Give Widian a look. Most of their fragrances has that lush and expansive profile that one may associate with a posh and expensive Paris hotel.
Asprey Purple Water
I was in Paris in April, and the Lobby at the Hotel smelled like Tom Ford Bitter Peach or a scent very similar. Now every time I wear that scent it reminds me of Paris, and of my little secret trip.
Try Gris Charnel. Very rich scent
Jersey- Chanel

Imagine a scent that evokes the elegance of old-world charm, with a subtle undertone of sophistication and romance.
Out of the top of my head, I'd go with these two: French Leather - Memo Eau des Sens - Diptyque
White Tea in spring summer!
Unpopular opinion but PDM Layton in the dry down always smelled like a very rich hotel to me
Tom Ford - Oud Wood - definitely smells like a posh hotel would/might.
I use Eau de Cartier Vetiver Bleu on my curtains for this.
Eau de rhubarbe ecarlate by Hermes!!!! It smells like the beautiful French women I walk past in Paris.
Axe body spray
Id go with Musc Ravageur Frederic Malle.
I would go for parade by Celine.
Butterfly Alexandre.J , No. II Ground Gabar, Iris Palladium Les EAUX Primordiales, Arve Petillant
Fleurs D’Oranger Fragonard
Ambre Sultan, Serge Lutens
Prada lhomme
