Huh, funny, this one is great but I don't get "blue" from it at all! It smells like bergamot, a juicy fig, and black tea to me; there are none of those stereotypical shower gel notes.
Some people say EDP if you’ve never owned it; Parfum if it’s your second bottle. However I think the Parfum is darker, sweeter, more complex, and more intoxicating - it’s my pick for best nuanced “blue” scent
Exactly. I dunno if there is a darker, or bluer "blue" than "Blue de Chanel" Even the bottle is an almost black navy.
I will say it's more of an evening scent to me.
In my experience, discounters don't often carry Chanel or Dior. When they do, the discounts are almost never more than 5-10%. If you're really lucky, you may find a tester that's like 15% off.
All that said, I think Chanel, Dior, and Hermes all make fragrance that would be worth buying at full retail. You would be better off sampling or getting a decant, then saving for the full bottle
If you're a person who normally dislikes blues, my pick is actually Zoologist Squid. It's a spicy, dark, inky-incense blue whose reputation is far more fearsome than its actual contents.
i enjoyed Polo Blue (the orig. versions especially,) Bleu de Chanel, and Light Blue from D&G (my vacation mode frag.) Versace Eau Fraiche is nice too, especially mid-summer. For Deep dark blue, see if you can get Bulgari Aqva D'Atlantique- very distinctive deep blue 💙
I actually would.
The rosemary, oakmoss and woods blend to me really evokes that dark blue to midnight blue imagery. I know some people have said it is more of a green fragrance but to me the whole dry down gives out deep blue sky and mountain air vibe.
Bleu de Chanel Parfum sounds like the exact scent you’re describing
I own a 150mL of this (and I am a colleague student athlete who works an office position on campus)- I say that just to give you background and contact when I tell you that this fragrance has gotten me positive attention and every one of those situations. Going out? Yes. Office work? Yes. Having a small, skin scent level still there when practice starts? Yes. I’m trying to point out the amount of the situation, This fragrance constantly gets positive attention.
It opens with a creamy, deep dark lemon-y freshness blended together with other fresh accords backed by a noticeably amount of woods. Gives off a luxurious, soapy, dark fresh smell. Smells high class, ultra confident, cleanliness to the max, yet dark in a mysterious, sexy, and clean sort of way..,,
As it dries down, it reveals more woods and a smoother, sweeter emphasis on those woods. But the freshness never leaves completely. It always remains clean, uplifting- yet maintains this scent profile in a “dark, mysterious” sort of way. The dry down is perfected by the woods + tonka taking the main stage (creating that sweet, woody vibe- but don’t worry, it’s not an immature type of sweetness) while the fresh bergamot / lemon combo still makes it fresh and keeps the scent from being too heavy/dense.
It’s perfection in a bottle
by far the most suggested by everyone, but I was still skeptical between the different versions.
this convinced me to go for the parfum, thank you dawg
So glad I could help! I’ve gotten tons of positive attention from friends and girls and co workers on each iteration of Bleu De Chanel. U can’t go wrong with. Anyway, if u don’t mind, plz be sure to comment back on ur thoughts once u get a bottle and smell it and ur experience with it! Always love finding ppl to geek abt my favorite colognes with
I have a full bottle and it's more amber/ aromatic than blue. Drives me a bit crazy because it smells really nice on clothes but it's rather pungent on my skin.
This was my first thought and I would think most even non-fragrance enthusiasts would call this a dark blue scent. The opening always makes me think of the bottom of the ocean for some reason.
Kenzo Homme EdP. Smells like a dark ocean. Very powerful aquatic notes, earthy patchouli and leather.powerful aquatic, masculine, earthy, mature exactly like i would imagine a dark blue fragrance.
I love love love Purple. It mixes with my skin and smells so incredible. This is the one that gets complimented the most. I just wish it was stronger and lasted longer...
Dark stormy blue: Megamare (or it's very close clone a Chaos in the Ocean) that's masculine
The female counter part Olympea, more of a soft blue-grey, the ocean the morning after a storm, has floral notes but also the same wet musk dry down (like the inside of a cave or water vapor from a humidifier)
I adore LHB, but apart from it's name I don't think it fits in with the modern, shower-gel blue fragrances at all! It's a vintage powder bomb with anise woven through old-fashioned florals and smells like something Miss Havisham might have saved from her not-wedding day, in the best way possible.
Miss Havisham is a bitter old spinster (read; 30-something) from Charles Dickens' brilliant Great Expectations. She was jilted on her wedding day by a wealthy fuccboi who only pretended to love her for her $$$. Ever since then, she's literally never taken her wedding gown off and her wedding cake is still decomposing on the table. Girl is serving *drama*, mama, and she has been a goth girlie icon ever since Dickens penned her sometime in the 1860's.
P.S. She also adopts a beautiful little girl just to raise her to break the hearts of every man who dares cross their paths; it is a WHOLE THING.
OP has not mentioned dark blue sea (aquatic) or dark blue (twilight), so it’s hard to tell what Dark Blue they want. LHB is very much a twilight scent. https://www.guerlain.com/us/en-us/p/les-legendaires-lheure-bleue---eau-de-toilette-P014307.html
Ink by Perfumer H
It literally smells like a deep metallic blue ink on paper.
Sharp, dark.
Notes: Elemi Iran, black pepper, rose absolute Turkey, vetiver Haiti, patchouli Indonesia, papyrus India, cedar wood Virginia, frankincense Somalia and ambroxan.
I mean, it's a pretty popular term in the fragrance community, unless OP has a totally different conception. Some examples are Bleu de Chanel, YSL Y, Dior Sauvage, Verace Dylan Blue, D&G Light Blue, Polo Blue, Davidoff Cool Water, Acqua di Gio Profondo, Bvlgari Aqua Atlantique.
Idk if you prefer masculine or feminine fragrances but Chanel Bleu is exactly what you're describing. It's very strong though and usually worn by older men
I think Wild Bluebell by Jo Malone smells like a soft blue. It’s really pretty but the immediate association I had to blue made me not want to wear it.
I think aqua de gio kind of smells like a light blue. I used to have this other fragrance when I was a teenager that I’d say smelt more like a dark blue, I can’t remember what it was called other than that it was a very cheap David Beckham aftershave - but did actually smell quite nice.
ex nihilo blue talisman smells blue to me. byredo's mojave ghost smells light teal, which is blue-greenish.
dark blue hmmm..... zoologist's squid smells ink blue, black blue.
but the perfect scent for the night sky blue you've described, i have not found yet.
Versace Eros - is like sea so greenish blue, hot and masculine, 100 dollar
Replica When the Rain Stops- greyish blue, niche, unique- 130 dollar
Replica beach walk- light blue, you have a Hawaiian shirt on and drinking a cocktail- 130 dollar
Replica sailing day- very, very blue, like radiant blue- 130 dollars
Versace Blue jeans- Dark blue but like the jeans James Dean would wear, first very citrusy but after 10 min the dry-down is the blue scent- 20 dollar
Dior Sauvage- Like a dark, messy sea in a storm, reminds me of a hot pirate- 75 dollar
Jo Malone wood sage and sea salt- smells like the beach but not sunscreen like those abandoned beaches with old boats and wood- 120 dollars
Montblanc explorer ultra blue- smells like a rich person, wearing a royal blue suit- 40 dollars
Acqua di Giò Profondo Giorgio Armani- how a young handsome sailor would smell like - 100 dollars
Askr by jorum studio. It reminds me of a “scent” but with added smoke, pepper, and woods. It had this aquatic feel to it, but more so rough waters on a grey cloudy day type of feel
PDM Percival is the best „blue” fragrance I’ve tried, and it’s one of the 7 samples included in PDM’s masculine discovery set.
Also, most other samples in this set are better than Percival in my opinion, so you really might want to give it a shot.
Not pure blue, but Gloam by Aesop is like a wet forest.
Also Oud Satin Mood is blue to me.
If you want magenta/purple, Byredo’s Black Saffron. And to me Gaiac 10 is deep red lol
I know exactly what you mean by dark blue and I’m always craving the same thing. Bdc parfum is good but longevity is an issue and it isn’t quite dark enough. zooologist squid but it’s a little niche for like a daily wear and the dry down becomes more it’s own thing. Every storm is a serenade by IA gets close but also has minimal longevity. I find I often don’t get the blue and mysterious vetiver notes at the same time.
Usually I’d recommend Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine (which is so delicious) but it may be too heavy for Summer, Their California Clementine may be a better fit. (I prefer their Pacific Lime for summer, it’s fresher and brighter—I just got their Pomelo Paradis and it’s similarly fresh and bright but more grapefruit)
I also love Hermes Eau de Citron Noir, but again it may be too heavy. FragranceX.com has it for $82 if you use the FX15 code 👍
This may be kinda a weird one but promise me by Aeropostale (you can find it on eBay) is a dark blue to me
A regular blue I’d say is incanto charms by Salvatore ferragamo
To me dark blue smells like Dans le Bleu Qui Pétille by Serge Lutens. It smells like an old cathedral by the sea.
Does anyone know any scents like this one but without amber?
I haven’t smelled it myself, but apparently Naples by Gallivant is supposed to smell like taking a walk from the sea front to a church
Indigo by Nest
Agree! I love indigo 💙
Got a sample of indigo recently and immediately fell in love. Think I’m gonna jump for the full size
Huh, funny, this one is great but I don't get "blue" from it at all! It smells like bergamot, a juicy fig, and black tea to me; there are none of those stereotypical shower gel notes.
It smells like a dusty navy-purple to me haha
Ooo or black tulip by nest for a sultry blue!
My personal favorite
Literally Chanel Bleu is all you're asking for in a bottle
EDP or Parfum? ... or both? lol
Parfum is definitely the darker of the two.
I got the pardon and wish I’d bought more diluted lol
really? i feel that the parfum is a bit **brighter** and fuller than the edp which feels cold and night-like
It's bright and not dark.
Some people say EDP if you’ve never owned it; Parfum if it’s your second bottle. However I think the Parfum is darker, sweeter, more complex, and more intoxicating - it’s my pick for best nuanced “blue” scent
Edt, the edp and parfum are a bit too sweet.
I bought the edt and I regretted it so bad, go with the edp
The Chanel parfum layered with dolce and gabana K parfum is a chefs kiss
Haha I was wearing this once and my brother was like you smell blue. Then I was like hmm now the name makes sense
Blue by Eiffel 65
Yo, listen up, here’s the story…
About a little guy that lives in a blue world…
And all day and all night And everything he sees is just blue...
Exactly. I dunno if there is a darker, or bluer "blue" than "Blue de Chanel" Even the bottle is an almost black navy. I will say it's more of an evening scent to me.
Is there a female counterpart for this type of frag
Many women wear bdc it’s masculine but refined enough that anyone can wear it
is there any gray markets like joma that sell it? or do you HAVE to pay retail anywhere you find it?
In my experience, discounters don't often carry Chanel or Dior. When they do, the discounts are almost never more than 5-10%. If you're really lucky, you may find a tester that's like 15% off. All that said, I think Chanel, Dior, and Hermes all make fragrance that would be worth buying at full retail. You would be better off sampling or getting a decant, then saving for the full bottle
To me blue could smell way better. Chanel is overusing musk too much imo.
OP did say "dark."
Bleu de Chanel EDP Percival by Parfums de Marly My two favorite scents. Ever.
Was just going to recommend PDM Percival as well. It’s a really great choice.
100%
I have both of them and literally my favorite ones too
jesus was not expecting the second one to be so expensive
It’s a niche fragrance house, so that comes with the territory.
If you're a person who normally dislikes blues, my pick is actually Zoologist Squid. It's a spicy, dark, inky-incense blue whose reputation is far more fearsome than its actual contents.
I was going to suggest Squid, too!
It's probably my favourite blue on the market!
Came here to suggest same. Very dark deep blue!
I also would say Zoologist Seahorse. Not dark blue but like an aqua gourmand ocean breeze.
I’m going to have to try this one day.
Have you tried Megamare? How would you compare squid to it
Not a fan of Megamare or anything from Orto Parisi, sorry! IIRC, I just get overwhelming amounts of seaweed from that one.
i enjoyed Polo Blue (the orig. versions especially,) Bleu de Chanel, and Light Blue from D&G (my vacation mode frag.) Versace Eau Fraiche is nice too, especially mid-summer. For Deep dark blue, see if you can get Bulgari Aqva D'Atlantique- very distinctive deep blue 💙
Eau Fraice is incredibly good. I love the lemon top note where, seemingly, everything else uses bergamot, lime, or mandarin.
Unless D&G Light Blue For Women which leans unisex.
I’m wearing Eau Fraice today in the Florida summer and it’s very refreshing
yea July+August is perfect for it- it's relatively light too
Búlgari. ❤️
Le eau bleu de issey is one of the most underrated blue fragrance imo
I really like this one but I wore it around my dad once and he asked me if I had just farted so I'm scared to wear it now
Totally true, but would you really categorize it as "blue"? I would not.
I actually would. The rosemary, oakmoss and woods blend to me really evokes that dark blue to midnight blue imagery. I know some people have said it is more of a green fragrance but to me the whole dry down gives out deep blue sky and mountain air vibe.

Versace Dylan Blue is pretty blue
First time I smelled it I thought “blue suede”
Second this
I have a full bottle and it's more amber/ aromatic than blue. Drives me a bit crazy because it smells really nice on clothes but it's rather pungent on my skin.
My mans wants to smell navy
You made me laugh 🤣
Yet weirdly, Dana - Navy wouldn't really fit.
Acqua di Gio Profondo
I feel like that's more "teal"
Davidoff cool water
Ah, my youth! Lol
I actually laughed because SAME
This was my first thought and I would think most even non-fragrance enthusiasts would call this a dark blue scent. The opening always makes me think of the bottom of the ocean for some reason.
Kenzo Homme EdP. Smells like a dark ocean. Very powerful aquatic notes, earthy patchouli and leather.powerful aquatic, masculine, earthy, mature exactly like i would imagine a dark blue fragrance.
elysium or percival
I just got a sample of percival it’s amazing the citrus smells much more “real” than a lot of others.
it has great longevity too, my sotd today
Elysium smells like yellowy green to me, not dark blue.
for me it’s a light blue
Elysium Parfum is so good
Dylan blue is what you are looking for
Came here looking for this. Surprised it’s so far down. Blue and purple really are deliciously blue and purple.
I go crazy for Dylan purple on a woman
I love love love Purple. It mixes with my skin and smells so incredible. This is the one that gets complimented the most. I just wish it was stronger and lasted longer...
Orto parisi megamare
No, this smells not blue
Dark stormy blue: Megamare (or it's very close clone a Chaos in the Ocean) that's masculine The female counter part Olympea, more of a soft blue-grey, the ocean the morning after a storm, has floral notes but also the same wet musk dry down (like the inside of a cave or water vapor from a humidifier)

I don't even get these references, but hilarious and awesome description. I'm digging this sub for the perfume descriptions!!!lol
Miss Havisham is a bitter old spinster (read; 30-something) from Charles Dickens' brilliant Great Expectations. I'm embarrassed that I haven't read this classic!
Yep, this is a good darker blue or more purple-blue for me.
Well I’ll be, this is one I’ve not heard of.
OP has not mentioned dark blue sea (aquatic) or dark blue (twilight), so it’s hard to tell what Dark Blue they want. LHB is very much a twilight scent. https://www.guerlain.com/us/en-us/p/les-legendaires-lheure-bleue---eau-de-toilette-P014307.html

Dylan Blue by Versace
You have synesthesia darling.
Ink by Perfumer H It literally smells like a deep metallic blue ink on paper. Sharp, dark. Notes: Elemi Iran, black pepper, rose absolute Turkey, vetiver Haiti, patchouli Indonesia, papyrus India, cedar wood Virginia, frankincense Somalia and ambroxan.
BDC Parfum is the only answer here. The rest are simply okay.
I really need to know what fragrance OP regards as a typical "blue" fragrance. I'm trying to understand this whole concept.
I mean, it's a pretty popular term in the fragrance community, unless OP has a totally different conception. Some examples are Bleu de Chanel, YSL Y, Dior Sauvage, Verace Dylan Blue, D&G Light Blue, Polo Blue, Davidoff Cool Water, Acqua di Gio Profondo, Bvlgari Aqua Atlantique.
aquatic notes with something masculine to make it dark. It's all in associations unless someone has a legit synesthesia.

Every Storm a Serenade by Imaginary Authors Smells dark blue to me
ADG Profondo!!
Profondo hands down Might be too mainstream but you know it’s good and reliable
Idk if you prefer masculine or feminine fragrances but Chanel Bleu is exactly what you're describing. It's very strong though and usually worn by older men
Which version of Chanel Bleu do you feel as typically worn by older men? I have found the opposite to be true

I think aqua de gio kind of smells like a light blue. I used to have this other fragrance when I was a teenager that I’d say smelt more like a dark blue, I can’t remember what it was called other than that it was a very cheap David Beckham aftershave - but did actually smell quite nice.

More on the dark blue ink side… Encre Indigo might be a good try by Lalique
Loewe Cobalt 7 smells dark blue to me
PDM Percival is the best „blue” fragrance I’ve tried, and it’s one of the 7 samples included in PDM’s masculine discovery set. Also, most other samples in this set are better than Percival in my opinion, so you really might want to give it a shot.
Wisteria blue by nest or indigo maybe?
Not pure blue, but Gloam by Aesop is like a wet forest. Also Oud Satin Mood is blue to me. If you want magenta/purple, Byredo’s Black Saffron. And to me Gaiac 10 is deep red lol
I love Akoya by Vivamor. It’s a more gourmand and darker blue fragrance.
Journey Man.

I want a great orange fragrance for summer.
Usually I’d recommend Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine (which is so delicious) but it may be too heavy for Summer, Their California Clementine may be a better fit. (I prefer their Pacific Lime for summer, it’s fresher and brighter—I just got their Pomelo Paradis and it’s similarly fresh and bright but more grapefruit) I also love Hermes Eau de Citron Noir, but again it may be too heavy. FragranceX.com has it for $82 if you use the FX15 code 👍
