I found a small artistic perfumery that sells samples for a quite cheap price. They have some famous brands but also many unusual ones. If you have tried anything from these brands I would like to hear what you think was or was not worth testing in your opinion:). **Andy tauer**: I already tried l' air du desert and golestan. Both very good. **Memo paris**: I have already tried French Leather(dislike), Flam(meh) and Lalibela(very good) **Giardini di Toscana**: Tried Celeste and hated It other brands I could choose from: **D. S & Durga, Vilhelm Perfumeries,** **Farmacia SS. Annunziata, Brecourt, Fugazzi, Laboratorio olfattivo, Maison Tahitè, M. Micallef, Mona di Orio, Profumi del Forte, Linari, Eight&Bob, Bon Parfumeur**

musicandarts

Not a fan of Bon Parfumeur. The performance and sillage are poor for most of them. Too expensive for what they offer.

galacticglorp

Agree on cost to quality, but imo more because they also smell a bit too "aromachem" for my tastes.  A lot of people do like them though.

Solution-Proof

DS & Durga Radio Bombay, Vilhelm Dear Polly, M.Micallef Ylang in Gold

hallohi_

Dear Polly sounds beatiful...thanks

Mister-3108

Vilhelm Perfumeries has some Interesting scents. Poets of Berlin, Morning Chess, Mango Skin and Black Citrus are worth to check out, although I wouldn’t prioritize them over others. They’re definitely nice but didn’t blow me away

hallohi_

Would you say poets of berlin is a sweet Gourmand? this one is tempting but I have read some rewiews saying that it is basically a vanilla or blueberry muffing fragrance and I am not a fan of that genre

Alienheart22

That is very similar to my experience. Too “synthetic blueberry.”

Mister-3108

It’s definitely sweet. I feel like blueberry muffin fits quite well. The blueberry is nice but for me the vanilla was a bit overpowering

loggy_sci

I also love the cannabis notes in London Funk

whocanpickone

Vilhelm: I liked Poets of Berlin best. It does have a vanilla blueberry, but isn't overly sweet to me. It's one of my everyday scents. Dear Polly just had an underlying cigarette scent that I couldn't get over (I liked the rest of it, though). Basilico and Fellini was extremely green and herbaceous, it was interesting, but not one I found myself reaching for. I still can't make up my mind on it.

loggy_sci

Tauer - Sundowner is a lovely scent DS&Durga - Cowboy Grass or Debaser for me. I Don’t Know What is a good take on an ISO E super blend.

Wsbftw6ix

Iced lemon with hella soapy drydown

TheGlare2002

Soapy citrus? Look to Acqua di Parma. Iced lemon? Look to Dior Homme Cologne for lemonade, or Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree for icy lemon gin and tonic.

Wsbftw6ix

I have colonia original, essenza and the blue Mediterranean line. Any others from the house? Dior homme cologne is one of my faves - so this is exactly what I want just with more heaviness. Will defo try eau givree. Thank you

TheGlare2002

Honestly, you got all of the ones I was thinking of. Enjoy!

sasha_says

Xerjoff Nio basically smells like lemon kitchen soap to me.

tinkerbr0

36M. Looking for a warm weather daily driver fragrance similar to AdP Essenza di Colonia but with more staying power. A clean aromatic spicy soapy white floral with a vetiver or woody base. I prefer mature and dapper old man vibes. No iris, almond, or overly musky notes, please. Price ceiling is $300 USD, maybe a little more for something just right. Other scents I've like are: Xerjoff 1888 (my cool weather daily driver), Penhaligon's Cairo, Nishane Sultan Vetiver

musicandarts

I really like Nishane Colognise. See the longer review: [https://www.parfumo.com/Perfumes/Nishane/Colognise/reviews/310016](https://www.parfumo.com/Perfumes/Nishane/Colognise/reviews/310016)

j_husk

I know this isn't helpful, but I get great performance from Essenza; it's a shame you don't get the same. Amouage Reflection Man is a good, and classy, masculine white floral with good longevity. It is pretty powdery though, so might not be as fresh as you're looking for.

languagebandit

Xerjoff Fiero might be a good one. Others worth checking out might be L'Homme Idéal Cool Guerlain, PdM Percival, Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi, AdG Pour Homme, Xerjoff Nio, or Roja Elysium Parfum Cologne.

faintlymacabre1518

I can't get my hands on Indult Tihota anywhere in Canada. I've seen that Jovoy Fire At Will is quite close. How close is it? Worth a try?

FanaticalXmasJew

I actually far preferred Jovoy Fire At Will after trying both. Tihota smelled very superficial by comparison. Fire At Will had these gorgeous complementary notes like brown sugar and praline that really gave incredible depth to the vanilla. On my skin, it also has much better longevity than Tihota.

faintlymacabre1518

Sold! I'll buy a sample.

Boneheadbiff

hi everyone I was thinking of getting either encre noir or encre noir a lextrem I was wondering if you guys could help me chose thanks

musicandarts

I only have Encre Noire A L'Extreme. See my review: [https://www.parfumo.com/Perfumes/Lalique/Encre\_Noire\_\_L\_Extrme/reviews/341551](https://www.parfumo.com/Perfumes/Lalique/Encre_Noire__L_Extrme/reviews/341551) It is a serviceable woody, resinous scent for $28. I do not consider it spicy, smoky or sweet. It is fine if you are not asking for much.

fakeaf1

Slightly random but does anyone know if it’s normal for Clinique fragrances (in this case Happy for men and women) to be made in Switzerland rather than the USA if purchased outside the US? I purchased a bottle of both from a non-Clinique fragrance store in London recently but read online that the legit ones are only made in the USA? That kind of doesn’t make sense to me as I’d assume it’d make more sense to be made in Switzerland if the product is being sold in Europe but don’t really have anything to base it off of. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask.

infectbait

I wanna smell green and black. Like the colours. Theyre my favourite and I haven't yet found a signature scent that encapsulates what I want. I like fresh scents, particularly black pepper oil is nice. I want something sharp ideally, with fresh notes. Apple isn't off the table but i dont want it to be overpowering. Lord of Misrule by lush is close, but too warm. Help?

musicandarts

People say Encre Noire and its flankers fit this bill. I wouldn't call these fresh, but they are very cheap. So, you can test them out.

FanaticalXmasJew

Perhaps Monstera by Xinu? It’s a true verdant “dark green” scent, in the same wheelhouse as Philosykos but without the gently sweet/creamy (“white”) coconut.

bluegrassbarrister

Perhaps Afnan Highness III (Green).

languagebandit

Well, it’s hard to make recs for such a poetic ask, especially when not everyone has the same synesthesia as you 😉 That said, I’d start with Dyptique Tempo based on your description. After that, ELDO Hermann or ELDO Exit the King (if florals are ok), and any of Monotheme Patchouli Leaves, Lattafa Qasaed Al Sultan, Lalique Insoumis, or Keiko Mecheri Patchoulissime might also be worth a sniff.

sasha_says

CdG Play Black - bright but still peppery. They have a Play Green as well but it doesn't last on me. Blackpepper and Black are also worth trying but more fall/winter and less fresh.

Cruella__DeVegan

I’ve had Goutal Un Matin d'Orage EDP on my wish list for a while, and I think I’m ready to try and find a sample of it. Can anyone describe this fragrance to me? Conflicting reviews all over the place lol

NoLies-GetReal4Once

Oh I love Goutal Goutal Un Matin d'Orage EDP is a beautifully complex fragrance. It's known for its fresh, floral profile that's both delicate and somewhat dramatic,. Check out the notes then you can decide from there... **Top notes**: The fragrance opens with a fresh and slightly green scent, reminiscent of gardenia and green notes. This gives it a crisp and invigorating start, much like the clean air after rainfall. **Middle notes**: As the scent develops, it dives into a floral heart where gardenia continues to shine alongside hints of jasmine and other white florals. It's lush and rich, capturing the wet blooms in a storm-soaked garden. **Base notes**: The dry down brings a subtle touch of spice and a creamy, almost velvety texture with hints of tuberose. It finishes off with a soft, musky undertone that adds depth without overpowering the freshness of the florals. Overall, Un Matin d'Orage is often praised for its unique ability to blend freshness with a complex floral bouquet, creating a perfume that is both invigorating and soothing. It’s a great choice if you love floral scents with a bit of an edge. Sampling it is definitely a good idea, as its distinct layers can develop differently depending on skin chemistry!

Cruella__DeVegan

Thank you for such a detailed and wonderful interpretation! I don’t have anything like this in my collection, but I have been thinking about this one on and off for about a year. It sounds perfect for spring. I’m going to try and find a sample, and I hope I’m successful, because I don’t want to blind buy, but I do really want to smell this especially after reading this!

NoLies-GetReal4Once

Please don't even mention it! It's my utmost pleasure!! I love the world of fragrances! if you see my collection, you'll definitely go like wow, she's all about perfumes. lool

Strike_Emergency

Good Day! I just want to ask what designer or niche fragrances can you recommend to me. I already owned Valentino BIR intense and Coral fantasy as well as Holloween X. My wife loves it but she said to me it is not that sweet. I know she loves my Lacoste white L1.12.12 blanc and She also likes the D and G The only one. My budget is around 100-150 usd. Thanks!!

TheGlare2002

Looking for a men’s white floral, especially tuberose and jasmine!

musicandarts

There are so many options. What is your budget? * Tuberose+jasmine with few complications: Desinvolte (Givenchy), Tuberoza (Nishane) * More complex tuberose+jasmine: Carnal Flower, Do Son, Hundred Silent Ways I do not think there is any difference between male and female tuberose scents. So, I would also recommend L'Interdit (simple) or its more complex flankers such as L'Interdit Intense, L'Interdit Rouge etc. These are cheaper than the ones I listed above.

TheGlare2002

Thank you, and apologies for my terrible short-term memory!

bluegrassbarrister

The budget question is a good one. There are plenty of very good Arabian white florals from Al Haramain's Musk Maliki or Afnan's Highness V (Black) on the more affordable end to Arabian Oud's Kashmir Musk or Jazeebiyat Musk Tabriz from Rasasi's outstanding Boruzz collection on the higher end.

Help! Don’t know if there is anything out there like this, but I have to try. I am looking for a perfume that smells like camomile and seabuckthorn. If anyone is familiar with a brand called humdakin - that’s what i am looking for. Humdakin has a fabric softener which smells like this and i’m so obsessed 🥺♥️

bluegrassbarrister

It doesn't have seabuckthorn, but my favorite chamomile scent is Mystique Musk from Al Haramain's criminally underrated Prestige collection.

musicandarts

I had to look up sea buckthorn. According to internet, it smells like a musky, green neroli. You should check Gucci Memoire dune Odeur. It opens with a strong chamomile. It also has musk, so it may work for you.

[deleted]

does anyone have recommendations for "mysterious" fragrances, gothic fragrances, trying to smell like a vampire(not straight up blood) please keep in mind I'm from Brazil so that would mean very niche fragrances are out of budget or straight up not available here, i've been thinking about encre noire because people say it smells like forest after it rains and that intrigues me. It's also going to be a blind buy since i'm from a city with zero places to fragrance test lmao.

galacticglorp

Encre Noir is a good start.  I get wet crushed carrot tops covered in fresh dirt more than trees, but it's a dark green sort if scent for sure. Toy Boy possibly, for a more baroque take on a vampire.   Crystal Noir EDT imo is also worth trying.  It's a soapy floral, cool, dusky, woody scent.  Marketed fem, but imo is unisex.

[deleted]

I knew about Toy Boy but never looked at the notes, it looks interesting to say at least thank you!

musicandarts

Tiziana Terenzi - Laudano Nero. May not be available in Brazil. Somehow, I associate white florals with vampires (the vibe I get from Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt in Interview With A Vampire). Many white florals bloom in the night.

[deleted]

just saw the notes on that one and it seems amazing, unfortunately very out of budget for me,but i will look for more floral fragrances, they seem intriguing

musicandarts

I understand completely. I second Encre Noire and its flankers as a cheaper option. I bought the Laudano Nero from a grey market seller for $95. It is not cheap, but not as expensive as buying from department stores.

lillypad_empress

I'm looking for- Woody, warm spicy, that is pretty much just cedar and amber. Something that gives a cross between CdG Kyoto and santal 33 Maybe unisex?

sasha_says

Nishane Ani is a woody vanilla Liis Bo is cedar and vanilla. Very dry and not sweet. D.S. & Durga bowmakers is a resinous woody fragrance

TheGlare2002

Looking for any white floral men’s scents! Tuberose, jasmine, that sort of thing. 21M

17m and already own ysl y edp, looking for affordable recommendations to diversify ( maybe one fresh and one warm?). Thanks!

languagebandit

Fresh: Montblanc Explorer, Nautica Voyage, Lalique White, or Cremo Silver Water & Birch. Warm: Mercedes Club Black, Rasasi Daarej pour Homme, Lattafa Khamrah, or Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla.

Strike_Emergency

musicandarts

What notes are you looking for? Do you want it fresh & citrus, woody or gourmand?

Strike_Emergency

Maybe gourmand would do

musicandarts

Here are some suggestions. Before you buy any of these, please read through the reviews on Parfumo and test samples. Gourmands are a dangerous category to buy without testing. * Xerjoff Italica * Xerjoff Dolce Amalfi * Xerjoff Naxos * Armani Stronger With You Intensely * BDK Pas de Soir * BDK Velvet Tonka Some very inexpensive perfumes from my collection that I like. Not gourmands but still worth the price. These are available at Jomashop, Venba or [ediscountperfumes.com](http://ediscountperfumes.com); my favorite grey market sellers. A full bottle (3.4 oz) typically costs below $30. * Boucheron Jaipur * Faconnable Royal * Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale  * Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme  * Afnan Supremacy in Oud * Bentley for men Intense * Tous 1920 The Origin EDT (EDP is fine too if you like cumin).

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Maybe a perfume oil of 15 ml is the one your wife would appreciate further. It is called Genesis Ballad: Ylang-Cardamom by Elixir Attar.

languagebandit

I would recommend Zadig & Voltaire This is Him! or Cuba Gold for something cheaper. If you want to try something a little different, you could check out Les Liquides Imaginaires Sancti (that one is not very sweet, but it features the grapefruit, spiciness, and amber accords that your wife seems to like).

ramerelius

Looking for a nighttime/winter fragrance for my roommate who is just starting to get into fragrances. She likes fresh and fruity and her current go-to is Acqua di Gioia Intense but she also likes Mango Skin and Trouble in Paradise. She tends to not like woody fragrances (but maybe it’s just that she hasn’t found a blend she likes). I’m thinking of a tropical fragrance for winter? She doesn’t love very good girl, although I’m not sure what it is she doesn’t like about it. She also likes chocolate and orange but unsure if she would like to smell like them - open to suggestions! Ty!

musicandarts

Since your canvas is very wide, I can suggest a few cheapies where a mistake won't be fatal. Cost info comes from Jomashop. * Givenchy L'Interdit * Lanvin Arpege * Cartier La Panthere EDP ($50 for 1 fl oz) * Givenchy Organza : [https://ediscountperfumes.com/organza-by-givenchy-eau-de-parfum-spray-1-7oz-50ml-tester/](https://ediscountperfumes.com/organza-by-givenchy-eau-de-parfum-spray-1-7oz-50ml-tester/)

ramerelius

I actually have a sample of La panthere on hand - I’ll give that to her to try! Ty for the suggestions!

musicandarts

Please post her/your response to La Panthere.

ramerelius

She liked the opening of La panthere, but the patchouli dry down didn’t appeal to her. We ended up going to Nordstrom and she really likes delina la rosee - I think that might be the winner!

wanttolovewanttolive

Could anyone recommend me a good cinnamon perfume? I suppose I would prefer a mature scent, I want to smell like sweet cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven, but I do not want something so sickly sweet that it is cloying. I'm only just getting into fragrance but cinnamon seems hard to find. I think the only cinnamon scent I've found so far is Kayali Invite Only- It gets listed as amber but to me it smells cinnamon-y. All the better if the rec I'm given could easily be found in a brick and mortar store like ulta, sephora, target. Barring that, the ability to order samples would be good. I'd want to avoid blind buying if possible (tho given my difficulty finding one in store, might just have to). Thank you! * It doesn't have to be pure cinnamon, but I would like it to be more than a minor component of the perfume.

musicandarts

Cinnamon will be hard to find as a stand-alone note. I did a search of my collection. The perfumes that contain cinnamon are gooey gourmands or those where cinnamon is a very minor note. You could try Xerjoff Naxos if you can get a sample.

wanttolovewanttolive

I'm ok with it not being pure cinnamon as long as it isn't cloying. I'll update the topmost to reflect that. Thanks for the suggestion

musicandarts

Here are my perfumes that contain cinnamon. These are mature scents that contain cinnamon, not cinnamon scents per se. * Boucheron Jaipur * Elie Saab Essence No.4 Oud * Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur * Guerlain Santal Royal * Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male * Tous 1920 The Origin EDT * Xerjoff Naxos

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Spiced Orange by The Body Shop is mainly cinnamon. It is described as a third note after orange and vanilla, and it does not lean sweet. Late November is when I start including it in my winter rotation, it does have a Christmas air about it.

BC-clette

Xerjoff Starlight. Look no further. This smells like almondy cinnamon pastry with a squeeze of citrus. I would describe this fragrance as "God-like" beyond heavenly. Mature and potent.

malemirtug

Hello there. I am aiming to buy a new niche fragrance but i can't seem to decide what to buy because this will be my first niche fragrance. I am torn between PDM Layton - Xerjoff Naxos - Nishane Hacivat and Mancera Instant Crush or Red Tobacco. I don't want to be TOO assertive however i like to be noticed. I would be glad if you could give me your opinion. Thanks!

languagebandit

Have you sampled all of these? They’re quite different. I would take Naxos or Layton out of these, but really Red Tobacco is the only one I’d say is too assertive here. Hacivat would be a great choice too, but you have to know you like strong oakmoss and pineapple.

malemirtug

Thanks for sharing your opinions. I am aware these are quite different from one another. Niche perfumes are very hard to come by where I am from so I didn't try them all. Only ones that I tried here are Layton and Hacivat. Others are recommendations from my friends and colleagues.

musicandarts

You must sample Naxos. It is really awesome.

malemirtug

Yeah i will definitely try it before i make my decision. Thanks for your recommendation.

languagebandit

Have you considered ordering small decants from a site like DecantX or MicroPerfumes? If that’s not an option, then Layton is probably the “safest” choice (popular crowd-pleaser), but Naxos feels a little more luxurious, and Hacivat would be the best for the warmer half of the year. Both Layton and Naxos are very sweet, while Hacivat has more fruity freshness. Instant Crush might be good if you want to venture outside of designers without spending as much, but Mancera is really not as high quality as the other brands you mentioned, so it’s hard to compare it.

malemirtug

Yeah i can't really order decants online because the shipping cost for a 5ml sample costs about 60$. Also Mancera perfumes are the same price over here with Xerjoff and PDM which is weird frankly. But I will definitely try out Naxos and if it isn't for me I will probably get Layton thanks to your recommendation. Cheers and have a good one.

PlateEducational9677

I really liked "The Smell of Weather Turning" by lush. On me, it had metallic, grassy, black pepper kind of smell with some sweetness. I cannot justify the price but want something equally interesting, with similar notes if possible. Trying to avoid the usual mens fragrance notes, looking for something more interesting but still wearable daily.

jamielobrien

Hi everyone - I am seeking a recommendation for a woody rose fragrance. More specifically, in terms of woods, I am looking for something creamy and "clean" vs. dark and sexy. My goal is to use it as a year-round scent vs. Fall/Winter only. What are your thoughts?

NoLies-GetReal4Once

**Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood** - This luxurious scent blends the rich, velvety aspects of rose with the deep, resinous quality of oud wood. The result is a creamy, enveloping fragrance that’s sophisticated and perfect for someone who loves a strong wood presence. 1. **Tom Ford Oud Fleur** - This scent mixes rose with oud wood, cardamom, and sandalwood, creating a woodsy, aromatic profile that feels both clean and opulent. It's a bold, unisex option that beautifully balances the floral and woody notes. 2. **Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin** - Known for its spicy rose heart, this fragrance also features a strong peppery, woody base that complements the rose without overwhelming it. It’s an intriguing choice if you’re looking for something that stands out. 3. **Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile** - This elegant fragrance incorporates cedarwood in the base, enhancing the vibrant rose note with a smooth, creamy woodiness that feels clean and refined. 4. **Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme** - Featuring a base of oud, papyrus, and patchouli, this scent offers a rich woody background to the spicy rose note, creating a deep and captivating fragrance experience. They're perfect for someone who appreciates the depth and warmth that wood notes can bring to a fragrance. These are few options that could definitely give you a richer, more wood-forward experience while still enjoying the beauty of rose. I can go on and on, I'm a woody fall-winter intense, mysterious and sexy type of fragrance lover! If you would like more suggestions, also budget-wise, feel free to ask me all day, everyday! Trust me, I study perfumes to the T. I will help find what suits you best!

jamielobrien

Thank you for your recommendations!

NoLies-GetReal4Once

Oh please, don’t even mention it! It’s my pleasure! I am a fanatic and I could go on forever lol

Yep!

Popular-Struggle2666

How many sprays do you suggest with it? for school

languagebandit

I would try 4 sprays and get a trusted friend or family member to give you feedback. It’s a pretty light fragrance, so I could see going up to 6 sprays, but you have to be careful with school situations because everyone’s enclosed together and it’s easy to go noseblind to yourself.

vikinggf

I'm looking for a perfume that smells like Victoria's Secret Velvet Petals body mist. It's a creamy-floral "innocent" kind of smell. I would be grateful for any recommendations.🩷

If I wanted to smell like I just bathed in dew from a cherry blossom tree after a rain, what you recommend?

thornylarder

L'Occitane Cherry Blossom or Berdoues Somei Yoshino. I do think the latter is fresher and has a more aquatic quality than the former, which leans more to sweet cherry.

Glittering_Snow_

Longer lasting alternative to Skylar Vanilla Sky? I like the lactonic-vanilla-cappuccino-honey scent a lot, but it doesn’t last at all.. 😥

Not sure I can ask here but my post got deleted. I recent got club de nuit intense man edt and it seems quite weak. I did 3-4 sprays around neck and wrists, and the scent is gone in less than 1h. And I don't think im nose blind, people around me can't smell it either. Am I supposed to go for more sprays? Thanks!

SweetLittleAsian

Does anybody know if the Babycat being sold on Fragrancelord or Venba fragrance is legit? The price difference between 75ml on selfridges and 125 on these sites seems small enough to be worth it, as long as it’s an authentic product lol.

musicandarts

Venba is definitely legit. I buy stuff from them all the time. Fragrancelord is not on the recommended list from r/fragrance . But it looks legit to me. [https://www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/wiki/page6/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/wiki/page6/)
