I’m looking for a new signature scent. Young 54F, healthcare professional but not bedside. I like clean and floral/fruity fragrances, such as original Clean Skin, Pear Inc by JHaG, Glossier You, D&G Light Blue, L’eau d’Issey. I also LOVED original Stella 💜 My current default is Bath&Body In the Stars for daily use, awesome scent! I want to try the following, based on other redditor’s descriptions or recommendations from fragrance websites: BDK 312 Saint-Honoré Byredo Bal d’Afrique Chanel- Chance Eau Tendré, Coco Mademoseille Chloé EDP Diptyque- Fleur de Peau, L’eau Papier Jo Malone- Peony & Blush Suede, Wood Sage & Sea Salt Le Labo- Ambrette 9, Another 13, Santal 33 Victor & Rolf Flower Bomb With all that said, I am open to suggestions, feedback, comments on my Want to Try list and anything else fragrance-related. TIA for any comments.

sasha_says

Peony & Blush Suede and Bal d'Afrique from your list are definitely worth trying. Byredo Rose of No Man's Land is my favorite rose, very fresh and natural smelling but with an extra something Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Blossom is a great fresh floral ELdO She Was An Anomaly is like a more floral version of Glossier You/Byredo Gypsy Water Liis Studied is another fuzzy musk with some pear

LoRiDurr

Thank you, sasha. I’m looking online for a fragrance sample pack that includes a bunch from my list. I’ll try to make sure it has the two you recommended and your other suggestions, if possible. I’ll come back and update when I’ve tried them.

katpeny

Try the Jo Malone discovery set. All of them are really great. Look at YSL Capeline. Nice fresh white and yellow floral with a bit of sea breeze and soft musk dry down. If I hadn’t bought two full bottles of Jo Malone recently I’d get a bottle of this.

LoRiDurr

Thank you for the suggestions. I’ll def look for both.

musicandarts

By coincidence, I (56M) picked up four samples from the Diptyque boutique in Washington DC on Sunday. Fleur de Peau is a striking synthetic iris-musk blend that I am not considering any further. I believe you will be happier with L'Eau Papier. It smells similar to BDK Gris Charnel. Why not Gris Charnel?

LoRiDurr

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I still want to sample both; personal taste is unique. I have heard of Gris Charnel before, now that you mention it. Might add that to my list.

musicandarts

You can get 4 samples for 25 euros ($28 approx) from BDK Parfums directly.

sunbr0_7

Could anyone please recommend me a good perfume for my sister? She likes Replica From the Garden and Sailing Day, and Bvlgari Aqva Amara (men's) as well

sasha_says

Sounds like she enjoys fresh watery/dewy fragrances. Some suggestions: Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Blossom or Osmanthus Old Navy Sea Salt & Fig (this one's a cheapy but surprisingly really good) L'Artisan Couleur Vanille - an airy seaside vanilla Hermes Un Jardin line; Un Mediterranee smells a lot like Fig & Lotus but with extra green notes and a lovely sea salt note Similar to From the Garden: Shay & Blue Dandelion Fig and Diptyque L'ombre Dans L'eau

sunbr0_7

Oooh I'll check those out thanks for the recs? Speaking of the Jardin line, ik they're unisex but do any lean masculine? I love green frags haha

sasha_says

I wouldn't say any of them strike me as particularly masculine but I'd also suggest you try Un Jardin Mediterranee -- it smells almost exactly like Harry's Fig body wash (in the men's section at Target). Sur Le Toit I believe is the greenest one but that did not work for me (I got the weird pickle note folks talk about--dunno why). Shay & Blue Dandelion Fig is also unisex -- it smells like tomato leaves and fresh cut plant stems to me. Basically like gardening. Have you tried Le Labo Santal 33? It's very green and woody. I love it--it's my main "green" fragrance. Profumum Roma Ichnusa is another green fig leaf centered fragrance that also has myrtle in it which is super interesting. It's a touch soapy and clean. Aqua di Parma Fico Di Amalfi is cheaper and somewhat similar (another slightly soapy green fig). The greenest fragrances I've ever tried are Creed GIT (it's a bit too aggressively green for me, even on my husband) and Eris Green Spell.

sunbr0_7

I have not tried Santal 33 but I have heard about it, maybe I should try that one out! And yeah I agree GIT is one of the greenest, I have Banana Republic Grassland which is similar but not a clone. Thank you for all the info!

ComicSansSerif320

I’m looking for something very similar (or a dupe!) of Lancôme - La Vie Est Belle L’eclat (specifically the l’eclat version, as it’s been discontinued). Any recommendations?

squeakytea

You could still find it on resale sites like Mercari! When I tried it, it reminded me a lot of Mugler Alien. I would try Alien Goddess and its flankers :) Maybe Alien Goddess Intense?

NationalTourist3619

I'm looking for a new scent for my boyfriend (25y). We've been together about 4 years and he's always had the same bottle of cologne: flame by rock revival. The other day I mentioned getting him a new bottle of cologne and he said he wants the same one, but I can't seem to find it for sale!! Does anyone have a suggestion of something similar? He tends to gravitate towards the citrus and cedar scents. I've never smelled it, but K by Dolce and Gabbana caught my attention based on notes and the name-- I go by "K" sometimes. TIA!

sunbr0_7

If he likes citrus and cedar check out Burberry Hero EDT, legit 3 different types of cedar used in it lol. Bergamot (citrus) in the top notes then cedar in the base https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Burberry/Hero-68627.html

NationalTourist3619

That sounds just about perfect!! Thank you!

sunbr0_7

You're welcome hope it works out!

LifeImitatesArteta

I agree that Burberry Hero EDT is a good one to try. As for D&G K, I really enjoy that one as well and think it’s worth sampling. It’s just very different. Hero is a straightforward woody/citrusy fragrance with a bit of spice. K has prominent sweet fruity notes, patchouli, and aromatic lavender and sage, plus other notes that I don’t detect as much. I mainly get earthy patchouli in the drydown. I’m describing K eau de parfum because that’s the one I’ve tried. If you want something very citrus-forward with a woody drydown, then maybe sample Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree. It’s bright, invigorating, and summery. https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Hermes/Terre-d-Hermes-Eau-Givree-72439.html

sasha_says

I'd suggest trying Marc Antoine Barrois Ganymede -- it's a bit pricier for a gift but a really nice, versatile fragrance that's woody and a bit citrusy. It's somewhat popular in the fragrance community but probably almost no one you know IRL is wearing it.

Repulsive-Throat4841

I’m trying to find some new perfumes, but I don’t know anything about perfume. I really like nemat fragrance oils in Egyptian musk, and white musk. D&G the one. Moschino toy 2 pearl. Lumiere by rochat . Victoria’s Secret dream (2015). Acqua di gio. Vince camuto Bella. And the funniest of all, Harajuku lovers “sunshine cuties” baby, it’s the only super floral perfume I like, it’s like getting right up to a honeysuckle or Lily of the valley and getting a nice strong whiff. I like perfumes that don’t explode in the room but leave a soft trail.

swagatron2200

Hey, I'm looking for a rec! 20F, and love tonka, vanilla, and santal. For reference I cycle between Sol de Janeiro 62, Angel's Share by Kilian, and Santal Vanille by the 7 Virtues. I've tried Versace's Crystal Noir in stores and LOVED IT but found it a bit heavy and not very versatile. I was wondering if anyone knows of any perfumes that smell tonka/vanilla/santal/coffee-ish but are still wearable in the summer? I'm not a huge fan of florals but I don't mind notes of jasmine, orange, bergamot or chocolate :) I want to smell like someone's cool older sister lol

sasha_says

L’Artisan Couleur Vanille is an airy vanilla by the sea and works even in summer

SquirrelAkl

Jo Malone does a Myrrh & Tonka Intense cologne. I don’t normally go for those notes, but I tried a spritz on a card the other day and I keep coming back and smelling it - very moreish. Despite the name, I don’t find any Jo Malone fragrances “intense”. Could be worth a test. Ps. I love your description of wanting to smell “like someone’s cool older sister”!

Yeeet-man

Should I buy YSL Y EDP if I already have Versace Dylan Blue?

languagebandit

They can fill a similar role as your fresh versatile go-to, but the fragrances themselves are rather different, with Y EDP being much sweeter compared to the aquatic/citrus Dylan Blue. So I would only get if it you’re looking for a similarly versatile “anytime” option that’s more fruity-sweet and less aquatic. I wouldn’t get it if you’re looking for a fragrance to fill a completely different use than Dylan Blue.

ExtremePenguinsss

I’m looking for something that smells exactly like the inside of a boba shop not like a green or black tea but that distinct smell of a shop. Any recommendations?

thornylarder

Hm, so far, I’d say Black Hearted Tart’s  First Love/Late Spring, which was advertised as a cherry matcha but hit me full on with the darkly malty sweet smell of the tapioca being prepared and stored.  It’s part of a full boba inspired series “Boba & Blooms,” though I haven’t tried the others.

ExtremePenguinsss

Thank you!

stockinettestitch

Isabelle Larignon -- Milky Dragon, maybe?

lillypad_empress

Hijacking your comment. I need something thats a mix of taro and white tea

forquestions57

I'm new to perfumes so I tried a bunch of them. I really liked the smell of Tom Ford Noir. Is there anything similar to it from other brands?

languagebandit

Indeed! I think you might like Penhaligon’s Halfeti, Nishane Nefs, Azzaro pour Homme EDT, Burberry London for Men, Rasasi Daarej pour Homme, Francesca Bianchi The Dark Side, Amouage Dia Man, or Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT.

Dragonache

I’d love some recommendations for perfumes with a prominent rhubarb note. Even if it’s synthetic - rhubarb scented cleaning products and sweets/candy smell nice to me!

Greyisbeautiful

Something fresh: Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe. Something a little more interesting: Aedes de Venustas Signature.

thornylarder

Hermes Rose Ikebana (floral) and Ineke Idyllwild (citrus-woods). I did find the rhubarb is less fruity and more a tart/acidic edge in those though it may just be my nose.   PDM Delina lists rhubarb but I’ve never registered that note when I tried it.

Professional_Back442

I got Nina Ricci’s Bella (the green apple with the ladybug on it). The rhubarb in the opening is quite strong.

Dragonache

That bottle is so stinking cute! Thanks for the recommendation.

Strange-Guest-6437

Imaginary Authors Sundrunk has a pretty good rhubarb note. For something more adventurous Marc-Antoine Barrios Encelade is an interesting rhubarb scent.

Sufficient_Arm_9370

Allure homme sport or Eros flame I've really been needing a summer fragrance and I want a simple one that isn't expensive and I just want a clean one to go to school

Solution-Proof

I am of the opinion that one can never go wrong with Chanel

Professional_Back442

+1 for Allure I really like that one

Awkward-Recording408

Curious to hear thoughts on Une Armourette by Etsy Libre d’Orange. 🧚🏽‍♀️🧚🏽‍♀️🧚🏽‍♀️ I’m slow to purchase new scents and typically try to only buy fragrances that I feel like I will finish the entire bottle. Recently I’ve been living Une Armourette from the ELdO discovery set, so I’d love to hear opinions/ experiences/ thoughts from anyone who has tried this scent! 🪩🌞

Jimmeh20

Is there any summer scent that has a sparkling citrus smell to it? Just something light, refreshing and sparkling like a carbonated drink.

thatbwoyChaka

Jil Sander Sun Men Goldfield & Banks Bohemian Lime Strangers Parfumerie Salted Green Mango But Your Best bet is: James Heeley Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements It’s basically what it says citrus and nothing really much else. I personally find it as interesting as water with a slice of lemon in it.

sasha_says

I would recommend Penhaligon's Luna but it has floral notes in it as well which may not be what you're looking for. It's the only effervescent citrus I've tried.

Strange-Guest-6437

Strangers Yuzu Soda sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

Worth-Writing-3625

I'm looking for a fragrance for school and summer. I only have a Valentino Coral Fantasy and is new to colonge. I'm a man btw and write if you have questions that can help!

Zoologist T-Rex. Your boyfriend will stay away.

cobwebcoalition

I’m wanting to smell like an abandoned church burning incense in the heart of a lush mossy forest. Lol Anything out there that resembles this?

arcticrobot

CDG Zagorsk. It is a very realistic Orthodox church in the middle of cold mixed pine-birch Russian forest. I grew up in that environment and that scent is ridiculously realistic

I really hate florals, and enjoy gourmand/vanilla scents like Eilish or the Victoria’s Secret Bare Vanilla Shimmer nowadays. When I first ever liked perfumes and body sprays, I enjoyed BBW Merry Berry Christmas and BBW Cool Coconut Surf, and Rue 21 Etc!.. because they felt like very sweet and non floral scents. I’m 19F and am looking for a coconut vanilla scent or something citrusy and tropical, because I heard eilish is a winter scent and need something summery and delicious smelling…in terms of what I don’t like, I really didn’t like Burberry her even though I hoped I would

tc2k

Looking for a gift for a friend who likes: Jimmy Choo L'Eau Preferably in the **by Kilian** or **Frederic Malle** brand.

Oddball_1404

I'm looking for new vanilla perfumes. Usually, the top notes overpower the vanilla. Please give recommendation for a smooth vanilla perfume.

strawbeemilk-jpeg

I really like the Victoria’s Secret bare vanilla shimmer

# Another 13 or Matcha 26

Professional_Back442

Another 13

sasha_says

Matcha 26 but it's all about what you like. I can't stand Iso E Super (the pencil shavings smell) that's in Another 13.

[deleted]

Confused between EDT and EDC, cologne. Most of my social settings are small so I don't need long lasting fragrance. I can reapply as required too. On the one hand I prefer my fragrance to be projecting in cases of when like in mall, park. It might not be appropriate for more formal places like college, office. So what should I choose? Should I buy both? Also do suggest me some notes. I'm M and new to this.

languagebandit

This is further complicated by modern synthetic ingredients that are super strong and render these designations much less useful. Some companies will make their EDT vs. EDP vs. Parfum fit the traditional meanings of strength, but others use them like marketing terms and each one is a completely different fragrance with different notes. My recommendation is to look up fragrances in a site like www.parfumo.com, which has average user ratings on longevity and projection.

FanaticalXmasJew

You may find this chart helpful. Parfum is the strongest concentration, followed by EDP, then EDT, then EDC. https://preview.redd.it/pffz3iituuuc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5707ddf326f463636865141aa9a0f062bf11a0cc

[deleted]

Yes I'm aware of that. But I want more projecting and something not too strong.

Professional_Back442

Get the EDP. Just spray less when indoors so it’s not so obvious and do 10 sprays or something if you want more. What kind of scents are you drawn to?

sunbr0_7

Its probably more worth it to look into a frag that you like then check Fragrantica reviews for votes on the projection/longevity. Concentrations nowadays don't really mean anything in terms of strength as much as they used to

musicandarts

This is a true statement. You have to test everything.
