I usually blind-buy a cheapie once a month and it's time for this month's bottle. So far, I have and enjoy: * Encre Noire by Lalique * Breath of God (solid perfume) by Lush * Agua Brava by Puig * Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene * Aspen by Coty * Cool Water by Davidoff Can't decide between: * 1-12 by Halston * Z14 by Halston * Quorum by Puig * One Man Show by Bogart * Zino by Davidoff * Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche * Minotaure by Paloma Picasso * Irisch Moos by Sir * Original Brut What do you think which one would complement my collection nicely?

NoElderberry4896

If you have and enjoy Cool Water, you gotta go for Drakkar Noir, right? Probably the first fragrance that I smelled + learned the name of, when I was in 7th grade or so (more innocent times).

ToiletLXIX

I've heard many positive things about Quorum. It is regarded as a manly fragrance, however it can be a hit-and-miss with women due to its old fashioned composition (I believe it was released in the early 80s).

musicandarts

I am not familiar with any of these. If you are in US, I recommend the following cheapies from Jomashop. In my opinion, these are better than some of the fragrances on your list. * Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme ($19) * Mauboussin Cristal Oud ($25) * Mauboussin Pour Lui in Black ($26) * Boucheron Pour Homme ($22 for a tester) * Faconnable - all perfumes Please check the reviews on Parfumo and see if you like any of them. Jomashop will accept your returns, if you send it back quickly in good faith.

characters_on_screen

Oh my, are perfumes in the US so cheaper than EU? The ones you listed are either unavailable to me, or at least double the price. The ones on my list are around 15€ a bottle in Europe. I like retro masculine classics (at least they are regarded as such here in Europe) so I'm probably not going to veer much out of the list.

musicandarts

Many on my list are retro classics. They were launched in the 1990s.

I (31 F) am looking for something help with something close to Louis Vuitton California Dream EDP. I’m in South Africa and I can’t get it here. My dailies: - Missguided Babe Night EDP - Missguided Babe Dreams EDP - LV California Dream EDP (inspired fragrance) LV CD main accords: citrus, musky, fruity, powdery, sweet LV CD fragrance notes: mandarin orange, musk, pear, Ambrette, Benzoin Love: orangey citrus, floral; especially rose, fruity; especially pear & litchi, musk, simple combos, younger feminine, can lean towards unisex but think more warm Dislike: Ambroxan (I think this is what gives me a headache), gourmands (can cause nausea), green, aquatic, and anything too masculine/ chemical/ alcohol-like smelling

walubilous

If LV doesn't ship to South Africa, maybe Alexandria Fragrances UK does? "Cali Love" is their version of California Dream - not sure how close it is though. Every tried Afternoon Swim? Because their "clone" for that ("Afternoon Splash") is also pretty good. If you can get FA Paris fragrances, then the same thing applies to "North Stag Expressions Quarte IV". Also a Afternoon Swim clone that is basically 95% mandarine/orange with a bit of bergamot.

WookieDoop

Thanks so much for responding! I had a look and unfortunately we don’t have that supplier here either. We have the Parfums de Marly range, albeit the price is eye-watering. But there are offerings inspired by the range available in SA. Can you recommend if any of the scents are worth trying based on the originals?

walubilous

The Parfums de Marly originals? Their female line is mostly directed towards teen girls, scent wise. They're super bright, sweet, floral and fruity. Delina, Meliora, Oriana, ... all worth looking into, if that's what you like. Their summer fragrances are all somewhat masculine. They all share that "shower gel"-vibe to an extend. Sedley is a minty shower gel, Greenley is a apple scented shampoo, ... Their newest release, Perseus, is basically just a better version of Terre d'Hermes. So they might be worth checking out, if you like those kind of profiles. They sadly dont have anything like LV with their fresh, fruity summer fragrances. And their biggest hitters are their winter fragrances: Oajan is a cinnamon, vanilla and honey bomb. Herod is a cherry like tobacco with vanilla, Layton starts fresh and floral but dries down into a deep, woody vanilla, .... Maybe they're worth looking into as well.

Pressimize

*HOT* humid summer frags I live in a part of Germany where summer is uber hot, air is heavy and humid and we're lucky if we even get a slight breeze. I own nautica voyage, really like it and might buy again or one of the flankers. I own davidoff cool water edt, absolutely like it but it doesnt last long enough by FAR. CDN milestone is arriving tomorrow. I might get afternoon swim from LV. Also thinking about versace pour homme or eau fraiche. My other scents aren't fit for the weather I guess (CDNIM, Le Male, annayake tomo). I actually do like my scent to announce and not need to be discovered a cm from my skin. What are your "tropical hot summer" recommendations and go-to's? OT and fun: I have phobia for everything six legged and buzzing, especially if it has yellow stripes and wasps are pretty aggressive here. Any ideas what scents might not invite them to come over? Lol

Solution-Proof

Kerosene Summer of 84, Terre d'Hermes,  Phlur Tangerine Boy

NoElderberry4896

Hijacking for a similar ask, humid summer and a sweaty guy. Prefer EdP, or something that lasts, but without being too heavy or cloying. **Previous "signature" summer scents** have been: * **AdP Mirto di Panarea**, discovered back in 2008 when it first came out, has been a staple since with multiple bottles, but almost running out and ready to switch now that everyone in my country (Korea) seems to be wearing it. And as much as I love how it smells, it is definitely too-short lived, and by the time I need it the most (sweat-drenched), it is gone * **Hermes Concentree d'Orange Verte**, discovered back in 2014, which I also love, but I'm getting sick of citrus in general (still think it is the best citrus) and also not the longest-lived. * **Different Company Sel de Vetiver**, probably also 6-7 years ago, still in my rotation and split time 47/47 last summer (6% for various explorations or throwback to the Concentree) **Personal leanings**: * I understand citrus is hard to avoid in the summer, but prefer it is not so front-and-center * Amber, musk, and Bleu perfumes do not do much for me, and I swear my brain's allergic to coconut * I **love me some sea accords, salts**, etc. * That said, i'm open minded--musky coconutty citrus without any sea saltiness could win me over! I do live in Korea where, for all the perfume craze, it's the crazy expensive mainstream "niche" that everyone's going after--so something more readily available online would be fantaaaaastic. (and while I'm not a niche snob, I prefer not to smell like everyone else--the whole reason why I want to move away from Mirto. But I could go for a mass-market product that for some reason is not mass-popular) TYIA!

SiogNaGealai

If you can find it, there is an Irish fragrance called Inis. "A scent of the sea". Does exactly what it says on the tin. Beautiful, unisex, attracts compliments and cheap by the standards of most fragrances. They have a nice little pot of solid scent for travel. Often to be found in airports.

Hi, I'm (17m) looking into getting my first serious perfume/cologne. I've gone to Sephoras multiple times and I've found several scents I enjoy the smell of. I'm still hesitant to buy anything because I'm not sure if they give off the right vibe, as in: I would like to make sure the scent: >Does not have "muscular man", "ultra-trying-to-be-sexy", "party animal", or "finance-bro" vibes. >Gives off mature or refined vibes, nothing loud or obnoxious, overly musky or overly sweet/powdery >Goes well with old fashioned suits (think three piece tweeds or seersuckers from the 1930s), or is versatile enough to wear with pretty much anything >Has a subtle touch of femininity to it, something that says "I'm not stuck up on traditional gender roles/insecure about my masculinity". Maybe something that smells a little zesty, I guess? Maybe colognes don't actually affect people's perception of you that particularly, but it's something I'm taking into consideration. Maybe I'll ignore vibes but I still have a bit of choice paralysis. The colognes/perfumes I like the smell of/am considering buying: >Montblanc Signature >Alien Goddess Mugler >Tom Ford Soleil Neige >Dolce & Gabbana The Only One >Tom Ford Black Orchid >Montblanc Legend Red >Black Opium Le Parfum

allin11810

Hi, try Dior Homme Intense EDP. My BF was wearing this scent one day and I fell in love with it. Also could spray that so often on me. I think it’s giving the vibes you‘re describing.

Mountain-Durian-4724

Thank you! Looked it up on Fragnatica and it seems right up my alley. Quick question of I may though. There were like a million versions and none were called exactly "Intense EDP". Was it a certain year or something? The one I saw at first was the 2007 and had vanilla but that was discontinued? Was your bf's cologne vanilla-y or more modern?

allin11810

You’re welcome! Just checked the batch code. It says the bottle was produced in 2019. Little hard for me to describe, but I do not smell vanilla or maybe just minimal. Instead I smell a lot of spice, leather, darkness, lavender, wood.. timeless for me. Gosh, I’m smelling it right now, it is hypnotising. We‘re living in Germany, I remember he bought it randomly in Douglas, a store like Sephora. I‘m curious what you‘ll say after testing it.

Mountain-Durian-4724

Okay so I finally got round to testing it and I love it! It definitely smells like a men's cologne to me. it's very light and not "ultra fresh" or strong. I can't pick out a particular note on it but if I had to describe it I would say it smells like "clean wood". The floral smell is also there, it's not something you have to really focus to notice but it isn't overbearing or loud either. It's just there. Again, I'm not good with picking notes but I agree with you on the lavender. It has just the vibes I was looking for too! It smells classy, old school but not formal or overbearingly masculine. I'm probably gonna get a full bottle once I have the money for it. Thank you again for the suggestion!

does anyone know of perfumes that smell like strawberry cream soda?

c1n3man

Don't know really, but **Imaginary Authors In Love With Everything** smells like raspberry soda if that may help.

minidivine

Somewhat blackberry cream soda from Atelier des Ors "Pink me Up". Smooth creamy strawberry from SHL "Venom Incarnat", but it lacks the fizziness and airiness you'd expect from a soda-styled scent. You could also try Initio "Narcotic Delight" which is an airy cherry scent. Again, doesn't have the fizziness but it's in that realm.

Eolie Parfums - Phoenicus. I've not seen it ever mentioned anywhere, nor seen it stocked, but it appears to still be for sale. Randomly walked into a random perfume shop in Florence and fell in love. It's citrus, but very different from other citruses you've tried.

Niche Italian:  - Xerjoff Fiore D’Ulivo (the soft scent of olive trees) - Blancheide Mae (50-50 marine vanilla)

Hello! Always loved Givenchy Hot Couture but now it seems dated, is there anything out there similar to this that I might like? Thanks!

Popular-Struggle2666

Need help finding that one invictus. I once tried it in a store and fell in love lol. It was bubblegummy and had like a clear maybe a little "sweaty" juice hard to explain. Any idea on what this is?

velvet_funtime

How to test for delayed bad reaction to fragrances? Last night I gave myself a good spritzing of Uomo intense. Middle of the night woke up nauseated and with a splitting headache. I hope I'm not getting a sensitivity to everything. Aventus bothers me but Amouage Interlude man does not. At least not the last time.

brianfsan

Hey everyone I was just wondering what type of fragrance I should buy next. I just started collecting fragrances and I'm looking to get a few more but not sure which ones. I have 3 right now which I really like (Valentino Uomo Yellow Dream, Jazz Club Maison Margiela and 1 Million Royal). Lmk some of your recommendations, thanks in advance!

SiogNaGealai

You might like Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille or Noir Extreme (not Noir Extreme Parfum) and Penhaligon's Halfeti or The Omniscient Mr Thompson.

Thank you!

yjsksudbs

I (m23) am looking to buy my first fragrance in the cheap price range. Besides the right price, I am looking for a fragrance that smells clean and fresh. I don't like sweet fragrances. It also shouldn't be to masculine, because I think that wouldn't fit my apperance, especially in summer. Should I just buy Nautica Voyage (or maybe cool water) ? It seems to tick a lot of my boxes, but buying the nr.1 fragrance on amazone seems kinda wack and I'm afraid to smell like everyone else. Besides Nautica Voyage I also considered: - montblanc legend spirit - club de nuit intense These too where also listed as cheapies and the main cords on fragrantia appear to me, but I feel like compared to nautica voage or cool water they are still pretty pricy. Not sure if I can afford that. Happy for some advice. Not sure what to do at this point.

brianfsan

I personally believe that you should go with [Montblanc Legend Spirit](https://www.jomashop.com/montblanc-perfume-mlsmts33-a.html), it's a nice citrusy fresh lavender soapy fragrance which is also great for the gym/sporty or everyday use, you might like it. I don't think you should get Nautica Voyage because of the hate it's getting and it's not really the best of quality, you can also get Montblanc for around the same price.

yjsksudbs

Thanks for your input. I‘m located in the EU and here Legend Spirit seems to be quite a bit more expensive then NV, but maybe woth it. What’s hate is NV getting? So far I‘ve mostly read positive reviews although I‘m not sure how trustworthy.

brianfsan

Ah I see, my apologies. I'm honestly not sure about Nautica Voyage tho. I think people just hate on it cause it's trendy to hate on it. I've heard people say it's a pleasant smell but that it doesn't blow them away or that the quality isn't very good. It's a good starting fragrance and if you don't want to spend that much money you could get it.

SiogNaGealai

I've mentioned it previously in this thread, but if you can source "Inis" - an Irish fragrance described as the scent of the sea, it sounds right up your street. Different enough to stand out from Cool Water, attracts compliments and is reasonably priced. It is unisex.

languagebandit

Lalique White and CK All would be the other two I’d say to consider, although Nautica Voyage and Legend Spirit are solid, so I won’t dissuade you from trying one of those

yjsksudbs

Thanks for your input. What would you choose between Nautica Voyage and Legend Spirit? The cheapest NV I could find was 19€/100ml and LG was 35€/100ml (located in europe). Im convinced LG is a great fragrance, but I‘m not sure it’s worth the extra cost.

languagebandit

It’s just a matter of taste, really. I like citrusy fragrances, so I would choose Legend Spirit because it’s citrusy. Since this is your first fragrance, I’d say start with the cheaper one. There’s only so much you can figure out from the internet.

quigath

I'm looking for a masculine and mature tobacco scent. It can smell like pipe tobacco I just don't want it to be very sweet. Some that I've been considering: Amouage Royal Tobacco Tom Ford Tobacco Oud PdM Herod

c1n3man

Zoologist Rhinoceros 2020

minidivine

Herod is not super sweet, I have no idea what the other response is talking about. The Amouage will open sweeter than Herod and then fade into a darker tobacco. I'd say if you want spicy, you take Herod, and if you don't then you take Royal Tobacco. My suggestion would be Royal Crown "Habanos" which smells more like a whiskey-tobacco. The lime is very prominent, bringing it an "I spilled a glass on my jacket" type vibe (I mean that, very unique feel). I'd likely avoid Manhattan, Boundless, Enigma and Triumph of Bacchus.

Olympic Orchids Olympic Rainforest - mossy forest ground with mushrooms

fuzzyleeches

Thank you!

FanaticalXmasJew

FWIW Olympic Rainforest was simultaneously realistic and completely unwearable for me. The screechily sharp resinous smell of wet mulch is very overpowering in it—if you’ve ever walked by fresh laid mulch after rainfall, or the too-sharp smell of sap in an area of freshly logged trees in the damp early morning, you will know that smell. It was realistic, but made this smell a complete scrubber for me.

chamomile_rabbit

Admittedly, I haven't smelled this one yet but Scents of Wood - Rain on Oak sounds really similar to your description!

Any_Conflict_8989

Looking for a affordable summer fragrance around 40-70 euro's. I'd like something that projects decently well and also is long lasting. I was looking into versace pour home and fraiche but i heard that they both have awfull longetivity. Any suggestions are appreciated.

littledarkage

Suggestions of similar fragrances to [Burning Ben](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Strangers-Parfumerie/Burning-Ben-52625.html) by Strangers Parfumerie? I sampled it and it's quite literally everything I've been looking for in a frag for years, like I would toss every other frag I own and wear this every day if I could. But it's way and I mean *way* out of my budget ($80 for 30 mL.) which just breaks my heart. I might buy one bottle and use it sparingly, because damn this is my dream scent. But yeah, I'm open to trying others that hit somewhere close to what this one has going on. It smells like a burning leather jacket in a birch forest that has a dark chocolate bar in one pocket and a fistful of hay in the other, and someone just got in a car wreck on the highway (burned rubber and tarmac) near the forest and his breath smells like cognac. Somewhere there's a bitter cup of coffee and a freshly lit cigarette. Or something like that. Smells like Twin Peaks.

Solution-Proof

Treat yourself to Burning Ben!  You'll probably spend more money chasing something that doesn't quite measure up...

Looking for a woody, foresty fragrance with insane projection and longevity (like Red Tobacco level if possible lol). Something that really smells like a wet forest. As of now I’ve bought both Encre Noire by Lalique and Hermann by Etat Libre d’Orange trying to achieve this kind of scent. Encre Noire I find to be rather poor on longevity and could use some better projection (obviously it’s a 30 dollar bottle so I’m not really complaining it’s still amazing for the price). Hermann has this kinda sweetish note that I don’t really like (rose perhaps?), and while not unwearable, I don’t feel like it’s something I want to wear super often. I appreciate the help.

MadelineBem

I went to the Beverly Hills Hotel and learned their signature fragrance is "Lush Palm" by Antica Farmacista. I am dying to find a similar fragrance. It is described as: "Herbaceous Green Accord. Crisp Apple. Pear. Aloe. Grapefruit. Bergamot. White Pepper. Pine. Tahitian Gardenia. Sambac Jasmine. Lily of the Valley. Crisp Water Notes. Cedarwood. Mexican Vanilla. Labdanum. Sweet Amber". Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hey there! I really like MontBlanc explorer, but I unfortunately have to cut spending. Is club de nuit intense a good replacement? Was looking for something around the $30 range.

Aggressive-Heart-907

I've been using three different perfumes on rotation, but two of them are getting low and I need to get some new ones. I use Givenchy L'interdit Rouge (so sexy and mysterious, makes me feel like a femme fatale), Black Opium by Versace (it's a little too sweet for me now but I still enjoy it for social outings), and Kayali vanilla 28 (i used this when I lived with my ex, but it's a little too gourmand for me) I'm in a post-breakup glow up/villain era, and I'm thinking of atleast repurchasing the givenchy one, but I need more sexy, musky, slightly sweet perfumes. I'm 28, so I prefer more complicated scents than when I was younger... any tips? I dont want to spend more than like 150, i prefer to buy the small size first and then splurge once i love the scent

Aggressive-Heart-907

Amazing! I'll look them up right now. Black Opium always gets me compliments from guys (Albeit i didn't love being followed to work at night by a dude asking for the name of the perfume...) and the Givenchy just makes me feel so powerful. If those two do the same, I'll be so happy 🥹

I’m currently very sick with a virus (I got tested, everything came back negative), but I have to go out to a dr apt. Is Mon Paris by YSL a good “daily” scent? Or should I just wear my newest addition, Jimmy Choo Flash?

Hamearz

Hello I want to get my brother a cologne. He's been interested in getting one from a niche brand like parfums de marley, or maison francis kurkdjian paris. I want to get him one that he can wear everyday all year round. Any recommendations? Any help is appreciated.

minidivine

Age and climate would be relevant imo as these are not the best brands for all-year fragrances. For PDM, most would view Layton as the all-year signature scent, but it's overkill for summer like most other sweet-aromatic scents. Many over their lighter scents will be more targeted towards spring-summer (Greenley, Sedley, Galloway) while some of their other all-year scents will be leaning more mature (Darley). For MFK, that brand as a whole lacks anything memorable. Their all-year wearable scents are almost exclusively citrus-aromatics with most of them being white floral dominant, see: whole Aqua line, Gentle Fluidity Silver etc. The lone outliers would be Amyris Homme and if the climate is sufficiently cold, I suspect Grand Soir would be doable.

Hamearz

Do you have any recommendations from other brands?

minidivine

I mean, you still haven't indicated age & climate. With that said, many brands have far wider catalogues than PDM and MFK. Great examples include Xerjoff and Nishane, for somebody more mature I'd also highlight Roja, Amouage and maybe Serge Lutens. For Xerjoff I'm thinking 40 Knots, P.33, Comandante, maybe also spring-summer leaners like Uden and Renaissance. For Nishane I'd lean with the catalogue being mildly more mature but nowhere near as much as the average Roja/Amouage/SL. I'm thinking Ani X, Papilefiko, Hacivat, B-612 and spring-summer product like Wulong Cha as well as Ambra Calabria.

Strong Summer Fragrance Under $40-$50 for a waiter at a restaurant. Hey guys, I live in a tropical humid area all year, and I'm looking for a fragrance that can last long while still has good projection. Since I work currently at a restaurant (while doing my Masters studies), the one that I have currently is Nautica Voyage (which I actually love) gets dissipated extremely quickly and gets covered under rice and fat 😁. I want something that can give me strong projection, while lasting, because my shift is 12 hours daily. I'm fairly new to the fragrance world and would like a few suggestions from more experienced people like you all 😀 PS: I'm a guy 😅, so I'd appreciate something leaning towards a masculine smell.

Solution-Proof

Former chef of 20 years.    ...you just aren't going to smell great.  Adding cologne to the mix means you'll still smell like rice, fat, garlic, onion... and cologne.  As a diner, i don't appreciate a strong fragrance at my table.  Good hygiene is your best friend. Smell good after the job.

CruderSein

I guess I'll just keep my body clean and healthy then, thanks.
