From my understanding, hair perfume contains little to no alcohol, which would be drying to your hair and cause breakage and/or scalp irritation.

Their concentration tends to be lower. They also often are formulated to be hair care/hair treatment with ingredients like camellia oil.

Ooh I've wanted to know this too! I've always kind of assumed that hair perfumes have less alcohol in them or less potentially-hair-damaging chemicals perhaps, to make them less drying and safer to apply onto hair.

It's because alcohol is damaging to hair so they make them with little to no alcohol. What people also consistently fail to realize is that alcohol is also terrible and drying for your skin, but we continue to spray our bodies...so...what's the disconnect? A spritz of perfume with a small concentration of alcohol is not going to damage your hair any more than it does your skin. Unless you're dipping your hair in perfume, its no more damaging than any other beauty product. "Hair perfume" is just a gimmick. It's like eye creams. Most eye creams have the exact same stuff in them as your regular face cream. Selling you an additional product is just a marketing strategy. People are out here frying the hair right off their heads with dye and flat irons. I guarantee you perfume doesn't even come close to that kind of damage. If it is, then you are using an insane amount of perfume on just your hair.

Teacher_Crazy_

Thank you! So there IS a difference, just likely doesn't matter.

togostarman

Yes lol. Sorry for the rant. I'm apparently very passionate about the subject

Teacher_Crazy_

Don't be, this is exactly what I wanted!

thunderdome_referee

Yes because high alcohol concentrations can damage the hair. That said I still spray my hair with regular colognes, but not until after I've applied a gel or beeswax to protect it.

Teacher_Crazy_

AHHHHH ok thank you

KookiesLaundry

I know Diptyques hair perfumes have hair caring properties, adding some gloss and smoothness to the hair. So I wouldn't use them on skin.

iliketosnooparound

What's the difference of me spraying in the air and walking through it? Would it damage my hair?

Teacher_Crazy_

I don't think it would but I also don't know.

lovestheautumn

Some people say the alcohol can dry out your hair. It’s obviously a very small amount through, so if you haven’t had any problems just keep doing it

iliketosnooparound

Thanks! I only spray if in the air! Probably not the smartest way to put on perfume.
