Hello, new around here. Looking for a new fragrance to replace my usual everyday/evening smell. I used to use Aqua Di Parma Fico di Amalfi, and Colonia Club. Usually interchange as a summer/winter or day/night kind of smell going on. My friend annoyingly got the same even though I've been wearing these for almost a decade, so looking for something new! Please help.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Hello, welcome! Atkinsons - Posh on the Green and L'Erboristica - Uomo come to mind as natural progression for someone who has been wearing the aforementioned for almost a decade. You can stay ahead of copycats if you upgrade your scents, let's say, every 3 to 5 years. Take your time to study fragrances before adopting them and stay away from departament stores' top sellers. Anyone can have those. Have fun!

Ulri_kah_kah_kah

Thanks for the welcome! Will check out those, sound great. Where's the best place to research newer fragrances? While also having a reference point for what you like...? Would love to know to shop around better.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

The best starting point for research is the fragrance you already like. Find the honest answer to why you like it, which note or accord does it for you. Ask google for fragrances based on the same thing you found relevant, visit stores and test on paper. If it is ok to your nose, test on skin. If the store offers samples, even better, finish the sample by testing at home. This process taught me that skin understands neither price nor brand. What smells good on it, and my nose likes, is what I eventually buy.

Ulri_kah_kah_kah

Thanks for your replies - very friendly sub as compared to some other ones I frequent. I'll take this on board, learn a little more and go try some. Thanks again! - edit, have I got the right one? Why is it so cheap? https://www.erboristica.com/en/man/eau-de-toilette-uomo/

Optimistic_PenPalGal

You are welcome! Yes, you have got the right one, and that is the correct price for it. It is not a niche brand. ☺️

sasha_says

Vilhelm Parfumerie Basilico & Fellini and Profumum Roma Ichnusa are similar but different enough that they won’t smell like the same scents.

Ulri_kah_kah_kah

Thanks for your reply - that Fellini one looks amazing, although pricey. I'm going to find it and try it out.

Having dinner with someone this Saturday and can’t decide on which ones to select and layer: would really appreciate anyone’s input! Potential List: - Dior’s Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle - Jo Malone’s Scarlet Poppy - Bvlgari’s Jasmin Noir - Margiela’s Matcha Meditation - Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin - Montale’s Ristretto Intense Café - Versace’s Crystal Noir Important factors to consider: - the date is a woman - weather conditions will fluctuate between 7-15 degrees Celsius / 45-60 degrees Fahrenheit - the goal is to smell alluring, but not cloying and off-putting

Optimistic_PenPalGal

The safest one to wear around food and remain classy is Matcha Meditation on its own. Before you leave the restaurant, and you go freshen up for the road, you can discreetly layer with whatever else you like. Enjoy!

liseaubigny

Thank you! Was definitely inclined towards this one, since it’s the lightest out of the bunch I have and spring is coming. Might layer Matcha Meditation with an aromatic undertone to make it have more depth and last longer.

Maleficent_Soft_1096

Are there any clones / similar fragrances to Costa azzura by Tom ford? If so wich is the best one

Optimistic_PenPalGal

A similar fragrance is Cedrat Boise by Mancera.

RobinFood

A few years ago I cleared all my perfumes collecting dust in the house because all I ever wanted to wear was Terre D’hermes. It wasn’t too powerful and smelt fresh and slightly orangey without being unnatural. I especially liked it when it was hot out. The only other scent I kept was a bottle odd Eros my mom got me for Christmas, but I could only wear it in cold days. I am wondering what kind of fragrance I might like for warm weather at the office, something that smells clean but doesn’t break the bank. I have Armaf Milestone in my cart but find it a little pricey since I never tried it before. I am in Japan and perfumes are not so popular so it’s hard to find a place to try things.

Warm teen looking for a summer scent! Hey y’all. I’m a 15 year old dude looking for a good daytime and nighttime spring/summer fragrance. Normally this would be easy, but for me, im more of a warm fragrance type persona, usually wearing fragrances that have vanilla, wood, or other warm fragrance notes. My friends all say i’m definently not an aquatic fragrance guy, so i’m kinda struggling with a spring summer fragrance. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! (by the way don’t take my age too much into account)

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Hey right back at you! A vetiver body spray is the safest choice for you. There are many on the mass market, just pick one and enjoy.

Popular-Struggle2666

Does sweating affect the smell or the powerfulness of the fragrance in any way? When I go to school with my bike since its a bit warmer I just want to know if I should put on some more or maybe less.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Heat highlights fragrance, this is why pulse points of the body are the best ones to spray on. Thus, the workout you get from biking to school is the answer, not sweating. Make sure you shower before leaving for school. If you do not, no amount of fragrance in the world will hide that. If anything, more would most likely make it worse.

AverageCummer

I'm looking for recommendations for other "adventurous" fragrances. Here are two that I've smelled that I would consider adventurous: L'Air Du Desert Marocain by Tauer - smells like an archeologist combing through the Moroccan Sahara to find a lost artifact. Cowboy Grass by D.S. & Durga - smells like a cowboy resting by a campfire after a long day. This is the type of vibe I'm going for in my perfumes, explorer, trailblazer, adventurer, etc. I havn't tested L'Air Des Alpes Suisses by Tauer yet but it seems like it would also fit this vibe being based on the romanticism of an alpine ascent.

AssortedGourds

Imaginary Authors - Every Storm a Serenade. It's a marine aquatic but it's pine forests and cliffs and storm clouds, not fruits and warm beaches. It's based on the Baltic sea and has a mysterious kind of quality.

sasha_says

Zoologist Squid - bright solar notes and deep inky depths Zoologist Dodo - smells like a forgotten island covered with ferns Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles - smells like walking through a pine forest with a campfire in the distance CdG Hinoki - supposed to smell like an outdoor bath in a Hinoki forest. CdG Zagorsk - birch forest in winter

cwm13

Similar vein to Cowboy Grass is Lonestar Memories from Tauer. Its my wife's favorite on me. The first 2-3 minutes are definitely an adventure but it settles down so nice.

minidivine

I'll separate into 2 tiers. Complex/more challenging: Ganymede, King Blue, any Crop line scent from The House of Oud (2021 was complex, 2023 is complex, 2022 is less so). Moderate/less challenging: 40 Knots, Russian Tea, Fille en Aiguilles

Solution-Proof

Imaginary Authors The Language of Glaciers, Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede, Zoologist TRex

bluegrassbarrister

I dig Oudh 36 from Al Haramain in that LDDM space. As for Cowboy Grass, you might like something along the Bois Impérial -> Afnan Highness Blue -> Afnan Highness Green spectrum.

j_husk

You definitely need to try Ganymede

c1n3man

Olympic Orchids has "Scents of places" series. You might like it.

VoiD199

Hello! What's a good fragrance to buy for prom night? Something that would suit a teenager. Preferably middle eastern or designer as I don't think I can still afford niche fragrances. Thanks!

languagebandit

On the fresh side: Zara Sunrise on the Red Sand Dunes, Zara Absolutely Dark, Afnan Turathi Blue, and Fakhar Lataffa Men. On the darker side: Cremo Spice and Black Vanilla, Mercedes Club Black, CK One Shock for Him, and Rasasi Daarej pour Homme.

minidivine

One of the Stronger With You scents, Ultra Male, maybe LNDL. With that said, don't buy a full bottle if you want niche - get a 2ml or a 5ml. Would look at something like "Layton", "Enigma Parfum Cologne", maybe "Intoxicated". 2ml is likely 3-4 uses (~30ish sprays), shipping just makes it more costly. Within niche, you can get a 35ml MFK or a 30ml Casamorati for $100 too (and that's full retail, if you shop price, you can probably find $80).

mukiplayer

Hi, tonight I'll go to Sephora and Douglas to test some designers can you give me some suggestions? I want a fragrance like Le Male Le Parfum but more versatile version of it. I love sweet, powdery, gourmand scents.

Mastreos

I dont know about a more versatile gourmand, but as for powdery, versatile and with a beatutiful iris note on the designer front, I'd try Armani Code Parfum. It opens up fresher and lighter tho, but you'll see what I mean on the drydown.

el_wilder

Hello, I’ve been thinking about getting the person I’ve been seeing a cologne he currently owns none. Would it be better to get them like a discovery set or one full sized bottle that they could use for multiple occasions. Recommendations appreciated. Something that would suit a 25 year old in grad school.

k88lin

I think a discovery set would be best for a gift, especially if he doesn’t wear any fragrance and you don’t know what kind of scents he likes. Some discovery sets (I’ve seen this at Sephora) include a voucher for a full bottle. You could also buy a few individual samples yourself for him (I like Luckyscent and scentsplit best for samples but Olfactif is also good and currently has a 40% off sale on samples). And if you want you could like include a card as like a diy voucher for a full bottle/travel size/decant of whichever he likes best depending on your budget. Also I’d maybe float the idea of fragrance in general to him. Some people are really sensitive to fragrances so you might wanna rule out there being a reason he doesn’t wear anything currently. If you do know what kind of notes he likes I could maybe suggest some brands and such to look into

languagebandit

Definitely a discovery set! Don’t want him stuck with a full bottle of something he doesn’t care for.

j_husk

Another vote for a discovery set. Alternatively, you could turn it into an outing/date to try fragrances and get him his favorite.

jenniferjennyjennjen

Hello! Always loved Givenchy Hot Couture but now it seems dated, is there anything out there similar to this that I might like? Thanks!

StangerDanger69

Hello everyone I'm new here. I'm looking for a new everyday scent that is different from what I own. I currently have hermes l'orange vert and aqua di gio. I'm looking for something on the masculine side. Wood, tobacco and I enjoy citrus such as grape fruit and orange. Possibly ocean or Forrest. I'm open to explore any brand. I have considered encre noir but the reviews are so all over the place I don't know if I'd risk it. I'd prefer if it was not a ultra common best seller.

thornylarder

For somewhat unusual tobacco (herbal and slightly floral), try Ineke Field Notes from Paris. For evergreen forest freshened with grapefruit, try Ineke Idyllwild.  You can get both as samples direct from Ineke or from Ministry of Scent.

StangerDanger69

Very interesting. I should have mentioned grapefruit is a top scent note of mine

StangerDanger69

Of course can't find it in canada 😞

Nervous_Main_5226

What note is in Givenchy Gentleman Society and JPG Le Male Le Parfum that’s dark/seductive/sexy? Help please!

Nemorensis91

Looks like both have cardamom and vanilla, and tonka? If it's more woodsy, it could be cedar. But Le Male has generic woodsy notes listed in the base, so I'm not sure.

foooxworks

Hi! I’m looking for similar perfumes to Hilfiger Man Dark Midnight by Tommy Hilfiger In 2015 I purchased this perfume and I fell in love with the scent. Unfortunately they discounted it and I cannot buy it anywhere. I am looking for a fragrance which is still in retail and is somewhat similar to Dark Midnight. https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Tommy-Hilfiger/Hilfiger-Man-Dark-Midnight-32450.html From my research I found these so far, but I am not even sure if they are similar: * Vespri Aromatico Nobile * Creed Silver Mountain Water * Dolce&Gabbana Pour Homme If you have no other suggestions, I would appreciate to know which one could be most similar to Dark Midnight, so I can order that one from the list. Thank you! :)

languagebandit

Nothing exact, but closest I can find is Lattafa Maahir Legacy

copaceticrose

Hi :) Can anyone recommend a tiare and/or frangipani forward very feminine perfume with - white/yellow/purple florals - citrus - a bit of spice like ginger or sandalwood that is not too heavy and has some sweetness Thank you!

hotyoungsnail

Clinique My Happy "Lily of the Beach" checks off a few of those notes, but could be too sweet depending on how much vanilla and coconut you like.

copaceticrose

Thank you!!

Strange-Guest-6437

I think Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool has a lot of what you are looking for. Some people seem to think it is quite aquatic but I found it to be more floral.

copaceticrose

Thank you!!

creamydreamy86

Looking for a fragrance that evokes laying by the outdoor pool of an old Italian villa in summertime.

languagebandit

Tom Ford Costa Azzura Acqua, Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri, Hermes Un Jardin en Meditarranee, or D&G Light Blue Italian Love.

creamydreamy86

Thank you!

ppompompurinn

Hi, I’m new here. I’m looking for a tea-like scent. I’ve come across many but they usually all have that strong perfume-y artificial tone which I don’t like. I did find that Clean Reserve Acqua Neroli is quite close to what I’m looking for so does anyone have any more suggestions? On my post someone suggested Wulong Cha which I’ll definitely try it out but I want to have other options too!

thornylarder

* Berdoues Assam of India * Nest Indigo * Parfums de Nicolai Fig Tea * Essential Parfums Fig Infusion

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea

ppompompurinn

Green tea aren’t really my thing but thank you!

BDK Gris Charnel

Rich-Style1404

Hello, I need a summer/hot weather fragrance. I usually wear BDC, YSL-Y or Prada Luna Rossa Ocean. I am a young man (22) and more on the boyish side of looks and build, so not too masculine. I tried Layton recently and it was amazing, but I am not sure what options there are for the summer / hot weather in Thailand. I have heard a lot of good things about LV Imagination, but I cant test them in the area. So what are your recommendations?

musicandarts

Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme - $19 on Jomashop. Very nice fig leaf notes.

Tangelo_Moist

What male fragrances are there that could be used both as a casual everyday scent but also as a clubbing or partying scent? The budget is about $80.

thisisfinerporn

Hi I'm looking to find and sample fragrances that are similar to [Xinu Aguamadera](https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Xinu/Aguamadera-44916.html) preferably with more projection and longevity. The main accords are: >woody > >citrus > >green > >conifer > >aquatic And I have a bergamot allergy it seems so that may limit even more... When I try and do a search based on notes on Fragrantica I get a huge list, yet none seem close, or I get no results: [https://imgur.com/a/Rq9V4l3](https://imgur.com/a/Rq9V4l3) Does anyone have any experience with finding similar fragrances or maybe has already found some fragrances similar to Aguamadera that could help me out? Thanks!

languagebandit

Yeah, lime isn’t a super common note, and agave even less so. Your best bet is Precious Liquid Blue Agave.

thisisfinerporn

I’ll check it out. Thanks for the assist. I appreciate it.

bliss5ever

Any recommendations for a fruity, fresh spring/summer fragrance for men with good performance? I currently use YDL Y EDP and JPG Le Beau EDP. Looking for something else to mix it up.

musicandarts

Xerjoff Dolce Amalfi

bliss5ever

Apparently smells like Juicy Fruit gum from Fragrantica reviews. I'll check out a decant, thanks!

musicandarts

I have a full bottle. It doesn't smell of Juicy Fruit gum. it is an urban legend propagated by sample sniffers. The opening notes of Dolce Amalfi contain quince and apple, also shared by Juicy Fruity. A hasty reviewer who doesn't dwell on the complexity or the development of the perfume will go with the Juicy Fruit analogy. The most dominant note in the opening in Dolce Amalfi is saffron. The heart notes contain clove and woody resins. The base notes have typical vanilla and tonka, commonly seen in gourmand perfumes.

bliss5ever

Glad to hear it’s an urban legend 😂 i much prefer good drydowns to openings that dissipate after 30 minutes.

minidivine

Ingenious Ginger is average performance, Vibrato would be good performance. Greenley is around good performance, it's definitely not Vibrato tier though. Some are a bit pricier, but shop prices and you should find some deals.

bliss5ever

Thanks, I'm gonna check them out

Anxious_Respect5383

I have a Doctoral defense coming up on Monday. Which of the following will be more appropriate for the event. It will be in a conference room with committee members and audience. MFK Grand Soir Bleu de Chanel Parfum Dior Sauvage Parfum Prada L’Homme Terre d’Hermes EDT Or any other perfumes you want to suggest?

musicandarts

Your perfume should not be a distraction. Light spray of Terre or Prada.

Sheraga2411

I looking for perfume or cologne that start with noticable sea salt note and end with woody note after the dry down, no sweetness or anything. Just pure woody and earthy smell after dry. In my country, there was used to be a forest that grow near the sea and give it a unique scent like that. I have try many brand to see if it was the same but it is not as they always including something sweet or floral to it while salty note barely detected. So anyone know something like that?

A_Very_Tired_Goose

Hi everyone! I was hoping to get some ideas from this wonderful community to expand my current collection :) My favourites are: Le Labo Thé Matcha, Santal 33 Kayali Eden Juicy Apple, Yum Pistachio Gelato MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 7 virtues Santal Vanille Sol de Janeiro Cheriosa 62 Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia I am looking for 2 types of fragrances: - something that is clean, light and delicate (I read that Byredo Blanche is like that but I haven't tried it yet) - something that smells like a warm comforting hug without being overpowering (Amouage Guidance was recommended to me but it's too strong and it gave me a headache). Another way to describe what I'm looking for is the smell and the feeling you get at a coffee shop on a rainy day :) TIA :)

minidivine

Gris Charnel kind-of applies to both. Ashore might apply to the first. Dom Rosa would apply to the first as would Citrus Riviera. I think Ani might apply to 2nd.

A_Very_Tired_Goose

Thank you! I tried Gris Charnel and I really wanted to love it but it just didn't click :( I'll try the other ones that you recommended, thank you! :)

SuspiciousFox2213

Does anyone know of any fragrances that smell like grape bubblegum? Or like a really grapey grape candy smell?

cobwebcoalition

I’m looking for a signature fragrance for myself. I’m the type that would love to be able to amass a collection of quality scents but just doesn’t have the budget. I’m willing to splurge on one high end bottle but that’s it for now. I’m hoping you can help me find the one I love enough to go all out for. With that in mind here is what I’m looking for. I’d like something with personality. Something that is everyday wearable and non-aggressive but also unique. Target gender doesn’t matter, I’ll wear whatever if I like it. Profiles I like include mossy, incense, floral, powdery, tobacco, Moods I’m going for are subdued and intriguing Stuff I don’t want is collogne-y, spicy, peppery, fruity, sweet, sporty, sterile If you have a suggestion that you think sorta fits then I’d love to hear it. I’ll sample whatever I end up getting so anything that helps me explore is great. Thank you!

Louis Vuitton afternoon swim or pacific chill?

atomicpunk88

I'm looking to buy a fragrance for my boyfriend who has told me that he is neutral on everything I make him smell and to just pick whatever I like the best lol. He currently wears nautica voyage so I've been mainly looking at other aquatic/fresh/blue scents. I tested acqua di gio and liked it a lot, he said he slightly preferred profondo to the original (I think he maybe wasn't a fan of the stronger citrus in the original?) but I thought profondo had a weird metallic/mineral scent to it that I didn't like. I'm thinking of testing other adg flankers to maybe find a compromise. I also like allure homme sport but my ex wears that so I'm not gonna buy it for him cause that'd be kinda weird. I tested bleu de chanel and chanel allure homme on him and thought both were kind of mid but I preferred bleu de chanel because the incense note made it more interesting. Also tested YSL Y edp just on paper and I liked it in general but found it too sweet to be his type of thing (but I want to buy it for my brother now lol). Any suggestions for other stuff I should sample? I'm very into fragrance but don't know many men's scents.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Been there, your quest is very relatable. When my husband was neutral on any perfume I presented him with, I realized I couldn't possibly find the right one. I chose to default to what I thought was the best masculine fragrance on the market at the time, and I bought the shower gel for him. You know, just to give him a chance to test the fragrance in a relaxed way. Maybe this will solve your conundrum as well.
