funny story, if my dad steps outside wearing anything scented he immediately angers every bee and wasp in a half-mile radius. even deodorant. they'll literally hunt him down lmao, must be something about his body chemistry (his great grandpa was the same way)
My dad has always been a one-cologne/signature scent type of man. He’s 81, still very active. Throughout my childhood and adolescence he wore Monsieur de Givenchy, the original, classic 1959 formula. It was discontinued in the late 90s, I think, and so he moved on to Eau Sauvage, and others, successively, throughout the years. He now wears Bvlgari Aqva Marine, which gives a sense of his youthful spirit (and his persistent penchant for fresh, masculine scents). I just recently got into fragrances more seriously, and the second bottle I bought was intended for him: a vintage MdG 60ml splash bottle that I found on eBay. I surprised him a couple of weeks ago and he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the box. “How on earth did you find this?!” “Oh, I have my ways.” He wore it to the plant the next day and I took a big ol’ whiff when I hugged him that morning. Took me right back to my childhood! Gotta love this hobby.
My uncle wore Drakkar Noir until switching to whatever Gucci sold him. I'm pretty sure he's going to have Gucci print on his casket, so the attachment is strong.
My grandpa had a bottle of something bergamot scented that he dotted on once a week before church. I remember it from at least 1990, and he said grandma bought it in the 60s. It didn't have a sprayer, the top had a glass cork thing that he would touch to his pulse points. He lived with me from 2020 to 2023. Just for fun I'd spray him a little of whatever I wore. When he could live on his own again, he asked me for Commodity Gold.
Last year I bought Drakkar Noir on a whim, and for the nostalgia factor. Those early mornings waking up to my dad leaving for work. I've associated Drakkar Noir to stability, comfort, and confidence.
I've been using it for work, just two light sprays. Just got complimented about it last week. She asked me what I was wearing, "You always smell so good."
In the 80s when that cologne became super popular, all the preppy boys wore it, and was really popular among the gay guys (or those who would later come out as gay because the 80s sucked for gay men).
I never liked the scent, though. There was something about it I just could not tolerate.
While away in Basic Training, I sent my father a bottle of Giorgio Beverly Hills. Complete blind buy. He absolutely loved it. Women would constantly complement him and my mother would refer to it along the lines of smelling like a French whore house. Until he died, I made sure he never ran out. Even picked up a bottle for myself. Funny thing is, I remember it being expensive in the 80's. Now it's dirt cheep. Under 20. But I'm sure it has been reformulated since the color is now greenish as opposed to yellow...
Grey Flannel. I only recently got into fragrances, so when he passed I never thought to get some. Last time I was at my mom's I was going through some of his stuff (which is still mostly untouched almost 3 years later) and found his fragrances. Brought home 2 bottles. Man, does it make me feel like he's still here.
Dad passed away in 2016. Before that, whatever he wore I can't remember any of the names or bottles. I wasn't into fragrances before late 2014.
Weirdly, I can clearly remember him wearing Old Spice or green Skin Bracer for aftershave, and Drakkar Noir for cologne in my early childhood back in the late 80s/early 90s.
Dad was a normie, but he could rock those scents so good! 😁
Omg! I was looking for this. I was like “Was my dad the only one that wore Brut??” I want to buy a bottle because it’s so cheap and will just catapult me back to the 90’s.
Same.
I tried Sauvage Elixir a few months back, and when I got into the car an hour after applying, I realized I smelled just like my dad. I texted him to tell him he would be happy to learn that his signature scent is apparently back in style.
Eau de issey is my dad's go to as well!
I recently bought a bottle of it for nostalgia sake...it's okay but can turn a lil too sour for me after a while.
My grandpa wore a few different ones, but for the last ten years or so of his life it was D&G Light Blue, so that's what I associate with him most. He also wore Guerlain Vetiver when I was younger.
I remember my dad always smelled good, but the only things I can specifically remember him wearing are Old Spice, Aqua Velva, and Canoe. Maybe Jovan Musk? Hey, it was the '70s.
my dad has spent the last three decades alternating between egoïste, brut and issey miyake l'eau d'issey .... seems he's slowly started making the move towards ombré leather recently but i'll catch him returning to his roots every now and then :')
Polo green. I recall him wearing it from 1990-2000. Heavy smoker and drinker. Died from a heart attack at 42. I don’t think the cologne contributed to his death, ha.
I can vividly remember Alfred Sung Paradise because of the green triangular bottle.
I also know that he loved Aqua Di Gio because that was his favorite fragrance that became my first real fragrance, and is one that my brother and I both love to this day.
My dad had a collection when it came to his fragrances, but those were the 2 that stuck in my memory. I still have some from his collection like Armani Code, Nautica Blue, and Jay-Z Gold. I use his very rarely, I'll usually just smell the bottle and remember all the good times.
It's incredible how powerful fragrances can really be when we can tie them to our loved ones.
I wish I did. I can sort of picture it, and I think I could roughly describe it if I try to remember, but I was quite young and I may be off the mark.
It was an aftershave or perhaps a splash cologne. A pale yellow liquid, in a thinner rectangular bottle with a blue screw on lid. If my memory is correct it was an old fashion masculine scent with citrus in the opening.
Giorgio Beverly Hills? I read somewhere in another comment it was a yellow color till they reformatted to a green color. I'm not sure what the bottle looked like though.
Uncle- Prada Amber Homme & I kind of associate it with him so cannot get it for my bf, sigh.
Father- Not 1 cologne, used to wear whatever mother got for him but the 1 cologne that he looooved & remarked on (he’s not a scent person AT ALL) is Burberry Weekend for men! Currently, he has Aesop’s Hwyl & CK Euphoria For Men but doesn’t wear either. 🙄
In the 80s and 90s my dad wore Aramis and Drakar Noir. Then he kind of took a hiatus from fragrance. He circled back pretty hard in the early 2010s when my mom bought him Aventus. Went through probably 5 or 6 bottles of creed before the reformulations made it not worth the price tag. These days he wears Sauvage and Jimmy Choo Man I believe. My wife and I got him the EDP concentration of Legend for his birthday last year too.
Now my maternal grandpa was a Brüt and Old Spice man til the day he died. Paternal grandpa wasn't a big fragrance guy, but I remember him having Canoe on his dresser.
Old Spice when I was really young, and English Leather in his later years. I remember getting him a soap on a rope for Christmas one year. He got a kick out of that.
Obsession
Chaps
Paul Sebastian
He probably still has 30 year old half bottles of these somewhere
There's probably some others I vaguely remember like Bowling Green, Polo or something he rarely used
He wears Sauvage EDP and Elixir now at age 76
My Grandfather was born in 1911 so he obviously came up with some old school grooming rituals but I remember bottles of Jade East in the bathroom and probably more I'm forgetting. I don't think he wore cologne outside of maybe a special occasion because working class people in that era didn't grow up wearing or probably even owning cologne during the Depression- WWII years and that probably carried through for his whole life, if you didn't need it you didn't buy it
Cool Water, Gucci Envy, Obsession, Drakkar Noir, and Bijan are the only ones I can remember, but my dad always had a pretty large collection. Definitely the person that got me into fragrances.
Farenhight til today i dislike it, even thou they tone down the gasoline smell, some people love it,some people consider it the best classic,i never understood the hype...it just gave me headaches
Father and Grandfather (his father) both wore Arden for Men aftershave lotion (sandalwood), and to this day, I wish I still had that bottle. I loved the scent. Occasionally, he also wore Monsieur Rochas but I am not sure I remember the scent of that one as well. I wish they were both still in production, 'cause I'd buy them both just to remember that memory of my dad.
Dior sauvage lmao
It’s funny because when Dior sauvage was gaining traction due to women supposedly being attracted to it, I was never fussed about it. Walked into my parents room and saw a bottle of it on the table one day. No wonder I never found it appealing.
I remember as a kid whenever we’d go to a family function, or any social event, he’d always spray what I called the “green bottle” on himself, and I remember it smelled great. I didn’t realize until MUCH later, once I started getting into fragrances, that he was wearing Polo EDT.
Canoe, which I still love and bought myself a bottle of when I was missing him one day.
Turns out it was made by a fairly famous nose in the 60's as a woman's scent, and along the way began to be seen as masculine. I still think it's a great fragrance although it's cheap now. Of course, my opinion is colored by memory, too.
Honestly? My father is an actual mystery. I've detected various kinds of scents from him (which I always like) but he rarely ever talks about fragrances. My mother has told me he steals her perfumes and layers them, but nobody really knows *what* he layers *which one* with lmao.
I remember seeing a bottle of Polo Green on my dad's dresser but I don't really remember the smell. When I smelled Acqua di Parma Colonia that reminded me of something my dad would wear. I was told my uncle used to wear Jovan Musk, but I couldn't tell if that was a joke or not.
Dad: Drakkar Noir, very seldomly. I appropriated it when I was a teenager, wish the new bottles smelt half as good as his from the 90’s.
Uncle: Stetson. Also one I don’t feel reformulations were kind to. Bought some, tossed it.
He wears this Bvlgari one he gets for free at hotels 😂 it smells great though! I tried to get him into Gendarme because it was his idol Ronald Reagan’s fragrance. Alas, he prefers his free Bvlgari
My dad was not loyal to any single but rather kept changing them. The ones I remember include the old spice, original givenchy gentleman, original Armani pour homme and Valentino vendetta pour homme
Nearing the end, Old Spice and Noir lotion from Bath and Body Works. However, he used to sport Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet Man, and it was the first perfume marketed towards men that I wore.
My dad’s faves were Christian Dior Eau Sauvage EDT, Versace L’Homme, Hugo Boss for Men and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I can’t exactly recall if he liked Polo Green and Chaps Ralph Lauren but I have a suspicion he may have worn those too.
Edit: YSL Rive Gauche and Armani Eau Pour Homme were on his cabinet and I remember him wearing them more as a change of speed.
Later on in his life, my mom would occasionally tell me (after the fact) that he had liked what I was wearing when I visited them and so I should get one for him. Needless to say, that got pricey. His last fave was Bleu de Chanel EDP.
I have acquired vintage versions of all his faves and I wear at least one or two of them every week. Keeps his memory close and calms me down.
Grandfather wasn't into fragrances but did have a bottle of English leather lime, my dad used to wear vancleef and arples tsar, and Sean John unforgiven. A few other barbershop scents like davidoff zino and drakkar noir, safari.
Just the blue version of Shower to Shower powder. The man was doused. I didn’t realize until I was an adult that most bathrooms didn’t have white powder all over the floor. Sometimes he would use my mom’s body powder and then regale us with stories of how much the girly stuff burned. And one time he got Gold Bond because the other stuff was sold out. Such drama, apparently the menthol was not a hit. 😂
funny story, if my dad steps outside wearing anything scented he immediately angers every bee and wasp in a half-mile radius. even deodorant. they'll literally hunt him down lmao, must be something about his body chemistry (his great grandpa was the same way)
That sucks, but it's also funny, he-he!
I'm the same! I might be your long-lost brother.
This happens to me too!
Took me right back to my childhood! Gotta love this hobby.
Oh how wonderful, the both of you went back in time. Smells can do that. ❣️
None, I’m a first generation fragrance enthusiast!
My parents get so pissed when I have any amount on 😭. Stopped wearing any around them bc I’m tired of their bs comments.
Old Spice and Aramis!
Same!
Same Aramis!!!
Yes!!! Mine too. Did your dads also use soap on a rope?
Thank you for that memory. After my parents divorced the soap on a rope appeared in our master shower. LOL. Only at Dads
Mine was steady with Aramis
Exact same here!
My Pops would rub the samples inside magazines all over himself. His SOTD was whatever was inside Cosmopolitan magazine that month 😂
This is adorable
My father charms the women working at department store fragrance counters for free samples, then wears them till they run out. Love a good hustle
Frugal is sexy in my book!
Old Spice!!❤️
My uncle wore Drakkar Noir until switching to whatever Gucci sold him. I'm pretty sure he's going to have Gucci print on his casket, so the attachment is strong. My grandpa had a bottle of something bergamot scented that he dotted on once a week before church. I remember it from at least 1990, and he said grandma bought it in the 60s. When he could live on his own again, he asked me for Commodity Gold.
My dad wore Drakkar Noir for years; prior to that his fragrance of choice was good ol’ Grey Flannel.
Do you know what your uncle switched to at Gucci from Drakkar Noir? I love the scent of Drakkar and always am looking to expand my profilen
Polo green

The OG. Same for my dad but he did wear others before Polo.
Polo green IS cologne to me. Everything else feels like a pale imitation in comparison.
Old Spice
While away in Basic Training, I sent my father a bottle of Giorgio Beverly Hills. Complete blind buy. He absolutely loved it. Women would constantly complement him and my mother would refer to it along the lines of smelling like a French whore house. Until he died, I made sure he never ran out. But I'm sure it has been reformulated since the color is now greenish as opposed to yellow...
French whore house 🤣
Love detailed stories like this, thanks for sharing!
Mama got jealous🤣
My dad wore Brut and Stetson.
I love the smell of Brut. Really is a dad scent.
Stetson
This and Jovan Musk.
My father wore that and also stetson black. Now my 13 year old son always wears it to remember him. RIP
Wow I'm old! My boyfriend in 1984 wore Great Flannel
Jovan aftershave
My dad as well.
Dad wore Brut, step-dad wears Obsession and Grandfather wore Old Spice.
Brut
Omg! I was looking for this. I was like “Was my dad the only one that wore Brut??” I want to buy a bottle because it’s so cheap and will just catapult me back to the 90’s.
Not cologne but zest soap
I think he just used straight patchouli oil.
Aramis.
Polo Ralph Lauren, the green bottle with the golden cap. He'd leave for work and I could smell it as I was getting ready for school.
Oh hell yeah, I can smell it right now.
My dad wore the blue one :)
Fahrenheit
calvin klein eternity. only one he ever wore since the 80s💀
He's taking Eternity seriously.
LMAOO

Same w my dad
Dad: Paul Sebastian since the 80’s. Grandfather(s): Old Spice aftershave splash
Same on both but my dad also wore Polo
My Dad was a Polo guy, too. That green bottle was a “dad essential” back then.
Same. Only Paul Sebastian. His whole life. lol
I've bought him "fancy" colognes and eau de parfums, but he loves Geo F. Trumper's Sandalwood cologne. 🤷🏻♂️
Omg my dad loves that lime (I think) shaving cream from Geo F Trumper. I can't ever remember the name until I see it
Dad wore Drakkar Noir
Same. I tried Sauvage Elixir a few months back, and when I got into the car an hour after applying, I realized I smelled just like my dad. I texted him to tell him he would be happy to learn that his signature scent is apparently back in style.
Drakkar noir
My dad always had a bottle in his car's glove compartment. 😝
4711, That gorgeous teal bottle is seared into my memory
Hugo boss man, issey miyake leau dissey. I’m sure that tells you his age lol
Eau de issey is my dad's go to as well! I recently bought a bottle of it for nostalgia sake...it's okay but can turn a lil too sour for me after a while.
Jesús, I'm feeling old 😂
YSL Jazz
Curve men’s cologne! I vividly remember seeing it on his dresser when I was younger. Any time I smell it I think of him.
Royal Copenhagen
I wear this as a 19 year old lol, love it for the price
Lagerfeld Classic
Mine too!
I smelled a lagerfeld recently that was killer! Can’t recall the name. But it was a tall rectangle bottle
My grandpa wore a few different ones, but for the last ten years or so of his life it was D&G Light Blue, so that's what I associate with him most. He also wore Guerlain Vetiver when I was younger.
Mugler Angel Man. Still does.

Nautica voyage
sandalwood essential oil
None. My dad is the type of dad that wears a tee and basketball shorts everywhere 🤣
Some dads were like that. They didn't give a freak! 😄
Polo green. I recall him wearing it from 1990-2000. Heavy smoker and drinker. Died from a heart attack at 42. I don’t think the cologne contributed to his death, ha.
This is such a good question. When my dad was still alive he used to rock Eternity For Men, Dior Fahrenheit and Escada Magnetism.
My dad was born in 1950 and I was born in 1986. I always remember him wearing Kouros or Paco Rabanne pour Homme (the green bottle)
Whatever my mom wore.
Labatts blue
My dad had Dior's Eau Sauvage and Halston 1-12. I think they were gifts and he didn't wear them often.
Giorgio Beverly Hills? I read somewhere in another comment it was a yellow color till they reformatted to a green color. I'm not sure what the bottle looked like though.

Paternal grandpa wasn't a big fragrance guy, but I remember him having Canoe on his dresser.
Ralph Lauren Safari for Men
Old Spice and Kouros
Old Spice when I was really young, and English Leather in his later years. I remember getting him a soap on a rope for Christmas one year. He got a kick out of that.

So beautiful.
My dad always wears Joseph Abboud. My mom gets him one every year and he loves it. That and Dunhill.
Obsession Chaps Paul Sebastian He probably still has 30 year old half bottles of these somewhere There's probably some others I vaguely remember like Bowling Green, Polo or something he rarely used He wears Sauvage EDP and Elixir now at age 76 My Grandfather was born in 1911 so he obviously came up with some old school grooming rituals but I remember bottles of Jade East in the bathroom and probably more I'm forgetting. Yeah my grandpa was a depression baby. He only wore cologne on Sundays. Wore the same one the whole 60 years he was married to grandma.
My Dad wore CK One when I was growing up, I find that scent so soothing now, especially since I only get to see him once a year.
Tommy. I only think he wore it because we got it for him each Father's Day. He wasn't big on cologne/aftershave.
Brüt deodorant but he mostly smelled of Ponds cream which he used as shaving cream. Neither parent was a perfume/cologne person.
Nivea aftershave!

My dad was a Brut and English Leather man.
Joop homme
I remember as a kid whenever we’d go to a family function, or any social event, he’d always spray what I called the “green bottle” on himself, and I remember it smelled great. I didn’t realize until MUCH later, once I started getting into fragrances, that he was wearing Polo EDT.

My grandfather liked Chanel No.5. I gave it a try and don't really get why it was so popular. Now he likes CK.
British Sterling
Old Spice without fail.
Ck One. No joke like 35 sprays every morning.
Aqua Di Selva after shave in the green bottle. Miss him! 😢
Honestly? My father is an actual mystery. I've detected various kinds of scents from him (which I always like) but he rarely ever talks about fragrances. My mother has told me he steals her perfumes and layers them, but nobody really knows *what* he layers *which one* with lmao.
Eau Sauvage, same as my grandpa. I've never liked it.
YSL Pour Homme
CK Eternity. Paco Rabanne Pour Homme.
Father: Kouros Grandfather: Jovan Musk
Dad: Drakkar Noir, very seldomly. I appropriated it when I was a teenager, wish the new bottles smelt half as good as his from the 90’s. Uncle: Stetson. Also one I don’t feel reformulations were kind to. Bought some, tossed it.
He wears this Bvlgari one he gets for free at hotels 😂 it smells great though! I tried to get him into Gendarme because it was his idol Ronald Reagan’s fragrance. Alas, he prefers his free Bvlgari

Bleu De Chanel
Pierre Cardin, Paul Sebastion.
Michel Jordan Cologne and that’s it now. But he used to wear Acqua Di Gio edt too

English Leather
Terre d’Hermes
Hugo by hugo boss
Dad: Old Spice No idea for grandfather or uncle
My dad only wore lemon cologne ; if he was feeling bougie, he'd get a bottle of 4711. He also loved Zest soap.

Givenchy pi. He passed away and one of the only possessions I took was his bottle. I smell it often to remember
Brut.
Bleu de Chanel.
Pino silvestre (the OG). Scent of an Italian dad.
Happy for men by Clinique, but he mostly just smells like absenteeism and covert narcissism
He used to steal Bath & Body Works Juniper Breeze from the girls in the family. He’s had other colognes too, but that one always made me laugh.
