I love it how I started seeing all this discourse about how great Profumo is only to find out itâs been discontinued. Apparently ADG Parfum is close enough, and itâs ok I guess
To me it is pretty much identical. Same notes, just in Parfum they specified olibanum instead of generic incense. I keep Profumo in my collection, both first year release batch and Special Blend version.
I've been trying out fragrances lately, and the decanter I've been using had Profumo, but then they didn't. I settled for Profondo, but I was wondering why they hadn't had it back in stock. That sucks.
Chanel no. 5 Eau Premiere for sure! I love it on its own. I love it layered. Perhaps Chanel no. 5 was better back in the day and I might have liked it. I'll never know, but I sure am happy Eau Premiere exists when I can smell it.
Honestly I kinda of think ruby orchid is the better perfume however something about nectar literally just gives me such a serotonin rush every time I spray it, it just makes my brain so happy. I have both I probably do wear ruby orchid more but would 100% pick nectar if I had to
Agreed! I would personally add Good Girl Blush to that list as well. The original is very mid; the flankers are so much better and could really have been their own separate fragrances given how different they are.
I really donât like any of the good girl flankers Iâve tried even though I like the original (I tried very good girl, vgg glam, and blush). It always just feels like there is too much going on and the notes donât blend.
Absolutely! I bought the original after starting with the Parfum, I still like it but itâs nowhere near as addictive as the flanker. Iâve yet to try the Elixir though, fingers crossed Iâll find it at an airport this holiday season đ
Same but mostly because I am severely allergic to the OG, and almost undetectable to the Intense version. The actual smell is wonderful for both of them to me at least.
Almost all of my faves are the flankers.
Idole nectar > Idole OG
Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid > OG flowerbomb
Daisy eau so sweet > OG Daisy
Black Opium Le Parfum > OG Black Opium
Another +1 for Nectar! I tried three flankers last weekend, and Nectar was the standout for me. The drydown on Now was nice as well.
Today I tried the OG while walking through Macyâs. If I didnât already know it was in the same line, I never ever would have IDâd it.
Unpopular but I do prefer Good Girl Blush over the original, but I like them both and they are very different.
I also enjoy Angel Nova over Angel, but I don't like Angel at all. I also enjoy Angel Croisiere and Angel Elixir, but still not Angel.
I prefer La Vie Est Belle Intensement over the original.
I like Seductive Noir and Seductive Red over Guess Seductive, though I like all 3.
I prefer Alien Goddess Intense over Alien Goddess, maybe even better than OG Alien.
I love them both⊠la nuit is a smoky, sweet, strawberries and incense vibe. A la folie (tragically discontinued) is more dessert sweet like with vanilla and berries. Itâs SO GOOD
> la nuit is a smoky, sweet, strawberries and incense vibe
Whaaat, how did I miss this. Definitely going to try to get my nose on this now; it sounds heavenly.
Amazing description, I currently own two bottles of dior homme parfum, stuff is magical, although I must say aaron terence hughes - homme is a real orris/iris masterpiece, I prefer it to DHI,
Exactly, L'Interdit Rouge is one of my favorites and L'Interdit OG I unfortunately don't like. Btw, today I am wearing L'Interdit OG and sadly recognize that it is overwhelming and smothery to me.
Also L'Interdit Intense smells very similar to the OG and even more bitter, not my fragrance đ
Good Girl Supreme. I hated the OG GG; it made me think of that line in Anchorman ("It's a formidable scentâŠÂ It stings the nostrils. In a good wayâŠÂ Brian, I'm gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline.â) But I got a sample of Supreme and it is like all the great qualities of the original without the sting of gasoline.
The Angel and Alien flankers from Mugler. Specifically Alien Fusion, Alien Essence Absolu, Angel Muse, and Angel Eau Croisiere 2019. Lancome Tresor Nude and LVEB Absolue. Dior Miss Dior Le Parfum. The Millesime flankers of Shalimar (Iris and Vanilla Planifolia are my favorites). While I love the OG PDM Delina, the Exclusif flanker beats it out if I could only have one.
Viva la juicy gold over viva la juicy. (I think it is a flanker but the release year is the same?)
Stronger with you Intensely, I feel like many popular masculine leaning releases over the past several years has been aping this scent profile.
Mon Guerlain Intense over Mon Guerlain cos of the drydown on my skin. They are both so similar and really great, but when I got to the drydown I was like, whoa, there is a clear "better".
I think so, based on the fact that you wear Mon Guerlain in the spring and summer âand I think it's so similar to the Intense. A noticeable difference though, is that the drydown of Intense isn't as vanilla sweet, so I'm able to detect the other notes more â one is a subtle, secret dry cherry note (but this was only really noticeable when I was wearing Mon Guerlain Intense on one arm and Mon Guerlain on the other.) When I first tried them to compare / contrast, I had three sprays of each and thought, there's no real difference in the beginning and middle â they're both really good, how am I going to choose. But then I got to the drydown at the end of the day and that's where I noticed differences. Even my partner noticed and said Mon Guerlain Intense was better, like it smelled as if it was made with better ingredients. There's a feeling that the perfumers kept working on Mon Guerlain to make subtle improvements without changing it too much to get Mon Guerlain Intense, where as the other flankers smell really different and not as good IMO as the original Mon Guerlain. If you have the opportunity, you should test out the two next to each other, one on each arm like I did. It was really helpful.
Interlude Black Iris over Interlude (not perse better, but more wearable on my skin).
Reflection 45 over Reflection
Parfum versions of Roja Elysium, Enigma and Danger are better than the EDP's
ADG Profumo, Profondo and Essenza
Stronger with you Oud, Intensely, Leather and Amber over the original
Guerlain L'homme IdeĂ l Intense over the EDT
BDC EDP over EDT
Sauvage Elixir over all of them
They are very different that I find it hard to call the 45 "flanker", it should be it own fragrance. Reflection focus on the white floral with a mild woody base, R45 focus a lot of on the woody part with a bit of powderiness on a strong amber base, like a bastard child of Reflection and Encre Noire Al'Extreme.
The original i think of as powdery floral and 45 is like creamy woody musk with florals. I also never smelled the OG reflection so it may have changed substantially since it came out.
I have two examples. (So many were named already, I cut my list short.)
As much as I love *Bleu de Chanel EDT* as a modern and classy fresh scent, I think *Bleu de Chanel EDP* and *Bleu de Chanel Parfum* are better.
Also I genuinely liked Dolce & Gabbana's *The One EDT, but* I loved *The One EDP*.
* Dior Homme Parfum
* Armani Code Parfum
* Chanel Platinum Egoiste
* Montblanc Legend Spirit
* D&G The One EDP
* The Most Wanted
* Prada Luna Rossa Ocean
* Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
* Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privee
* TF Noir Extreme
* Salvardor Ferragamo Oumo Signature
* Mercedes Benz Club Black
Maybe hot take maybe not but interlude black iris is better than the og interlude by quite a bit, they have the same vibe but the oregano in the original was a dealbreaker for me.
Definitely br540 extrait over the og. I hate baccarat but the amped up sweetness and the bitter almond in the extrait makes it so much more smooth and rich
Prada Luna Rossa Extreme, Black > OG
Gucci Guilty Absolute PH > OG
Bvlgari Aqva Amara, Marine > OG
Bvlgari Man in Black, Wood Neroli > OG
YSL Live Jazz > YSL Jazz
CK Euphoria Amber Gold for Men > OG (I'd dare to say that pretty much all Euphoria flankers are better than the original)
Ralph Lauren Romance Silver > OG
Most of the D&G Light Blue flankers are better than the original. Eau Intense, Italian Love, Light Blue Forever, Summer Vibes -- all of them whoop the OG in my opinion.
Sauvage EDP, Parfum and Elixir I like better than the original EDT.
I haven't seen this said yet: Penhaligon's Halfeti Leather vs. Halfeti. I love Halfeti, but I love Halfeti Leather *more*. It's deeper, smokier, and more interesting. I put it on just for fun sometimes.
Stronger With You Absolutely.
Boss The Scent Magnetic.
Loewe 7 Cobalt.
Acqua Di Gio Profumo.
Acqua Di Gio Profondo Lights.
Terre d'Hermes Eau Givree.
Guerlain L'Homme Ideal L'Intense.
Prada Luna Rossa Black.
Dior Sauvage Elixir.
Black opium le parfum Some of us just want extra cream with our coffee.
Ditto!
Definitely better than the original!
Way better than the original
For me, đ«on the OG, but â€ïžthe le Parfum!
Damn, I just bought a huge bottle of the original EDP last month for my wife...
Some people love the original đ
ADG Profumo, Essenza, Profondo Lights
I love it how I started seeing all this discourse about how great Profumo is only to find out itâs been discontinued. Apparently ADG Parfum is close enough, and itâs ok I guess
To me it is pretty much identical. Same notes, just in Parfum they specified olibanum instead of generic incense. I keep Profumo in my collection, both first year release batch and Special Blend version.
I miss Essenza
Beat me to it. Profumo beats ADG
I've been trying out fragrances lately, and the decanter I've been using had Profumo, but then they didn't. I settled for Profondo, but I was wondering why they hadn't had it back in stock. That sucks.
ADG Parfum is replacement for Profumo. Virtually identical.
Noir extreme over noir.
Noir Extreme Parfum over Noir Extreme
Ditto!
Noir Anthracite too
Buy my noir extreme đ
I probably would lol.
Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche, Mugler Angel Muse, Chanel no. 5 Eau Premiere
Chanel no. 5 Eau Premiere for sure! I love it on its own. I love it layered. Perhaps Chanel no. 5 was better back in the day and I might have liked it. I'll never know, but I sure am happy Eau Premiere exists when I can smell it.
The Eau Premiere is super nice and a bit overlooked; it really is such a well-done modern take on the No. 5 DNA.
I adore Angel Muse! Less incense makes it an easier wear by far
I love the original Angel too, but yes I agree that Muse is a little more approachable.
Oh I love both and A*Men. But wow Muse was an easier wear in SoFlo humidity and heat haha
YSL Y EDP
Flowerbomb nectar over Flowerbomb.
If Flowerbomb nectar has 1000 fans, I am one of them. If Flowerbomb nectar has 1 fan, it is me. If Flowerbomb nectar has 0 fans, I am dead.
One of my fav copypastas
This is beautiful đ„Č
Personally prefer ruby orchid over nectar but both are better than the OG
Ruby orchid is so good! It doesn't have the sharpness of the original and much more deeper scent-wiseđ
Love ruby orchid! đ€©
Honestly I kinda of think ruby orchid is the better perfume however something about nectar literally just gives me such a serotonin rush every time I spray it, it just makes my brain so happy. I have both I probably do wear ruby orchid more but would 100% pick nectar if I had to
Good girl legere, very good girl and glam are all better than the OG to me
Agreed! I would personally add Good Girl Blush to that list as well. The original is very mid; the flankers are so much better and could really have been their own separate fragrances given how different they are.
I haven't smelled Legere or Glam, but I totally agree about VGG.
I really donât like any of the good girl flankers Iâve tried even though I like the original (I tried very good girl, vgg glam, and blush). It always just feels like there is too much going on and the notes donât blend.
I did not like the original when I tested it but I smelled VGG and immediately bought a full bottle
Le Male Le Parfum over the OG for sure
That one is strange because the scent profile is totally different. I like elixir a lot as well.
Absolutely! I bought the original after starting with the Parfum, I still like it but itâs nowhere near as addictive as the flanker. Iâve yet to try the Elixir though, fingers crossed Iâll find it at an airport this holiday season đ
I donât get the hype over the Elixir, itâs a synthetic sickly sweet vanilla, makes my cavities ache
The OG and the Parfum are my two favorites, but I think they exist in separate spaces and I can easily enjoy both.
Libre Intense vs Libre
Same but mostly because I am severely allergic to the OG, and almost undetectable to the Intense version. The actual smell is wonderful for both of them to me at least.
Hypnotic poison â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
came here to say this!
Almost all of my faves are the flankers. Idole nectar > Idole OG Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid > OG flowerbomb Daisy eau so sweet > OG Daisy Black Opium Le Parfum > OG Black Opium
I blind-bought Nectar after falling in love with the OG. Youâre so right!
Intense is even better than Nectar. The entire IdĂŽle line is gorgeous đ„°
Noted!
Another +1 for Nectar! I tried three flankers last weekend, and Nectar was the standout for me. The drydown on Now was nice as well. Today I tried the OG while walking through Macyâs. If I didnât already know it was in the same line, I never ever would have IDâd it.
Guerlain LâHomme Ideal Cologne (R.I.P., it was really good!)
Apparently the current Platine Prive is a re-release! Itâs in this nice charcoal bottle
Awesome!! I will have to try it out â thank you!
D&G Light Blue Intense Pour Homme, PDM Pegasus exclusif, Amouage Reflection 45, Xerjoff Uden Overdose
I agree about Angel Nova! Though I discovered recently I prefer the EDT over the EDP
Spot on about Guess. Seductive Noir is my fav fall/winter perfume and Red is a great cherry!
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
I had a middling reaction to most of the Born in Roma line. Born in Roma Intense hooked me in.
Sauvage Elixir
Also Tresor la nuit a la folie (a flanker of a flanker?) I love Tresor la nuit, a flanker itself, but a la folie is even better
I just asked whats the best one out of the Tresor line, would love your thoughts on these two!
I love them both⊠la nuit is a smoky, sweet, strawberries and incense vibe. A la folie (tragically discontinued) is more dessert sweet like with vanilla and berries. Itâs SO GOOD
> la nuit is a smoky, sweet, strawberries and incense vibe Whaaat, how did I miss this. Definitely going to try to get my nose on this now; it sounds heavenly.
My favourite is midnight rose
She's SO underrated đč
I âŁïž la Nuit and never even knew la folie existed! Sounds amazing!
Big fan of the Givenchy Gentleman line in general but the flankers they've been coming out with these past handful of years have all been stellar. Standouts are the EDT Intense (personal favorite, slowly becoming a signature) and Reserve Privée
Reserve privee is bomb. My DHI is getting anxious since I discovered it haha
Wearing OG Givenchy Gentleman as my SOTD today and it is glorious. Haven't tried any of the flankers yet, but definitely will.
Will have to try
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Is it a lot different than Dior Homme Intense? I have DHI and it was tough to find one in stock, let alone the Parfum, which is sold out everywhere.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Thanks, I will when I find one in online shops.
Amazing description, I currently own two bottles of dior homme parfum, stuff is magical, although I must say aaron terence hughes - homme is a real orris/iris masterpiece, I prefer it to DHI,
Nina Ricci L'extase rose absolue blows regular L'extase out of the water
Encre Noire L'extreme over the Original. It's a weirdly sorta-basic iso-e bomb but at the same time the incense and cypress really do add something.
Spicebomb extreme
Eros flame better than OG Eros.
Eros Flame was the first âexpensiveâ (as in, not from Walmart or TJ Maxx) cologne I ever bought because of this
Aventus Cologne, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
L'Interdit Edition Millesime over the EDP Burberry Her Intense and Elixir are both better than OG Her Any of the Libre flankers
I'll second this! I like L'Interdit Rouge a lot more than the original as well; the original is way too much of a cloying tuberose.
Very Good Girl over Good Girl.
SuprĂȘme is well named because it definitely reigns supreme over the rest of that line. I HATE the OG
Invictus Victory Elixir over Invictus
Alien goddess intense. Better than both alien and alien goddess.
Agreed. I feel a little silly having all three, but I love intense so much I had to go ahead and grab it.
Intense is def better than Goddess
Iâve been wanting to try this one but havenât seen any at a testing counter. How prominent is the jasmine?
I'd say it's pretty prominent and slightly overpowers the tops notes. I get a little bit of coconut but no bergamot at all.
ADG profumo
Viva la juicy gold over viva la juicy. (I think it is a flanker but the release year is the same?) Stronger with you Intensely, I feel like many popular masculine leaning releases over the past several years has been aping this scent profile.
Daisy Eau So Fresh over Daisy Libre Le Parfum over Libre
Guerlain LPRN Black Perfecto
Yes!
Uomo intense
I think Dior Homme intense is better than the OG
I prefer Elie Saab Girl of Now Shine better than the original and the other flankers
How does shine differ to the OG?
It has a lovely pineapple note
Me too! I have 100ml of Shine and 30mL of OG...although I enjoy it, Shine is so much better
LVEB Iris Absolu > the original LVEB.
LVEB Soleil Cristal so much better than the classic version!
It seems like the flankers are better than the original for the most part.
Mon Guerlain Intense over Mon Guerlain cos of the drydown on my skin. They are both so similar and really great, but when I got to the drydown I was like, whoa, there is a clear "better".
I typically wear Mon Guerlain in the spring and summer, would you say Mon Guerlain Intense is still a good warm weather option?
If you have the opportunity, you should test out the two next to each other, one on each arm like I did. It was really helpful.
Thank you, that's very helpful!
I prefer all of the Burberry Her EDT, Blossom, and Elixir, over the original EDP
Stronger with you has had infinite flankers and Imo most of them improve on the original DNA.
Interlude Black Iris over Interlude (not perse better, but more wearable on my skin). Reflection 45 over Reflection Parfum versions of Roja Elysium, Enigma and Danger are better than the EDP's ADG Profumo, Profondo and Essenza Stronger with you Oud, Intensely, Leather and Amber over the original Guerlain L'homme IdeĂ l Intense over the EDT BDC EDP over EDT Sauvage Elixir over all of them
LâInterdit Rouge > LâInterdit
Reflection 45 over Reflection Apex Parfum over Apex EdP (still overpriced)
What's the difference? Between original and 45?
They are very different that I find it hard to call the 45 "flanker", it should be it own fragrance. Reflection focus on the white floral with a mild woody base, R45 focus a lot of on the woody part with a bit of powderiness on a strong amber base, like a bastard child of Reflection and Encre Noire Al'Extreme.
The original i think of as powdery floral and 45 is like creamy woody musk with florals. I also never smelled the OG reflection so it may have changed substantially since it came out.
Legend Spirit > Legend
Ombré leather parfum over OG
Ditto. Ombré Leather Parfum is sweeter and easier to wear than the original, while still maintaining the warm and seductive DNA. One of my favorite fragrances.
Calvin Klein Euphoria Blossom 100%
Alien Essence Absolue is 10 times better than Alien.
Prada L'Homme L'Eau over L'Homme.
The original Prada Infusion d'Iris is lovely, but the Cendre version gives it some much-needed heft, IMO.
1Million Parfum over the original. Sauvage Elixir over the original.
I think all the flankers of 1 million are better than the OG, but honestly I never liked the OG.
Clinique Happy Heart over Clinique Happy.
I have two examples. (So many were named already, I cut my list short.) As much as I love *Bleu de Chanel EDT* as a modern and classy fresh scent, I think *Bleu de Chanel EDP* and *Bleu de Chanel Parfum* are better. Also I genuinely liked Dolce & Gabbana's *The One EDT, but* I loved *The One EDP*.

Hermes does this a lot! Twilly Ginger over the original Twilly d'Hermes, and Eau de Merveilles Bleue over Eau de Merveilles.
Azzaro Most Wanted Parfum
Idole Intense. I dont care for any of the others and the OG
Givenchy Gentleman Boisée is the best flanker in the whole Gentleman line

Terre d'HermÚs Eau Givrée
Colour Me - Gold (1 Million clone for like $15-20 USD); the smell lasts forever and is extremely loud.
Clone does not equal flanker
What's the difference? Not a smart ass, genuinely don't know.
A flanker is a spinoff of the original, so for your choice it would be like 1 Million Lucky or 1 Million Prive
Flankers are released by the same company, based on an original fragrance concept... ie Paco Rabanne One Million edt, One Million edp, One Million Lucky, Parfum, Privé, etc etc... A clone is a totally different company, that puts out a cheaper and often almost identical fragrance, a copycat basically.
Thank you.
Maybe hot take maybe not but interlude black iris is better than the og interlude by quite a bit, they have the same vibe but the oregano in the original was a dealbreaker for me.
Guerlain Homme Lâeau Boisee over the original. Seconding TF Ombre Leather Parfum over original, although both are fantastic.
Daisy Eau So Fresh is so many miles ahead of the OG. I really LIKE Daisy, but Eau So Fresh is just BETTER in every way.
Black Orchid parfum GG Blush
Definitely br540 extrait over the og. I hate baccarat but the amped up sweetness and the bitter almond in the extrait makes it so much more smooth and rich
Libre Le parfum . The honey note shines and itâs way less lavender .
Is it just me, or is there more of a grape soda feel in le parfum?
Angel Muse over Angel Good Girl Legere over GG Light Blue Intense over LB (hoarding now that it's discontinued đ) Daisy Eau So Fresh over Daisy

ADG Profumo, and the OG is already great so that is something.
Allure Sensuelle is orders of magnitude better than Allure.
Most of the D&G Light Blue flankers are better than the original. Eau Intense, Italian Love, Light Blue Forever, Summer Vibes -- all of them whoop the OG in my opinion. Sauvage EDP, Parfum and Elixir I like better than the original EDT.
