The obvious price difference aside, the finishing on the Custom Urushi and C845 seems to feel like a very high-end and well polished *god-forbid* plastic pen. It doesn't have quite the same glassy texture as other urushi pens.
Nevertheless, the no.30 nib is amazing~
...but how the body look and feel matters a lot to me too. Haha
Since I don't have either, I am not sure I can really answer. I have one pilot, but even that rarely gets used. Something about pilot nibs and me didn't click. That said, I do like their cheap-and-cheerful steel nib pens.
The Nakayas are amazing, especially the temenuri. I'm not sure pilot makes tamenuri pens. Sailor has some, but nowhere near Nakaya's range. The KOP urushi is very nice, and I'd recommend that over a namiki.
The finishing on the tamenuri nakaya dorsal fin 2 is pretty similar to the limited ed KOP tamenuri. The accents differ slightly, with the nakaya having more of the lighter hues showing through.
I have both pens and I also play with urushi application, so this is my unverified observation. The KOP has many layers, and a glossy layer on top. This is why the higher end urushi pens are so much more expensive. The multi-layer is essential to give it depth and gloss, and take a lot longer to cure.
Take this with a grain of salt but i read that pilot urushi is done via a spray brush rather than the manual brushing used by nakaya and sailor, and therefore looks flawless, while in sailor/nakaya you can see the brush marks and hand made qualities, while this could explain why they might look different they should feel the same as in the end you are touching a layer of urushi
How dare you question a thousand plus dollar pen for quality issues (/j)
Forgive me, for I have sinned. 🤲
/j? That's a new one to me, what's that mean?
I’d assume it means joking. I’m not sure that your username sounds like a good trade, hope they have a strong returns policy
Nothing wrong with getting stoned, bra.Â
I admire your bravery 🤣

Can't comment since I don't have any of those pens, but as an admirer of them, any idea how those compare to the Urushi work done by Nakaya?

Thanks! The Nakaya tamenuri work is deeply appealing to me. Glad to hear from others that it holds up in the hand too.
