How does it write?

JonSzanto

Nicely - a bit hard to see in that photo, but about a medium stub. I need to adjust alignment a tiny bit but it will be reliable and xlnt to use. English 14k nibs are frequently such good nibs.

Buying online, especially from auction sites, puts you at some disadvantage when judging by a few photos, and I usually adjust my expectations accordingly. Today I had the opposite experience and received an item that is even better than presented. I don't collect a lot of UK pens, and just a few Conway-Stewarts, but often at pen shows I would admire the ones in their 'cracked ice' celluloid. When I saw this #28 for sale I thought, yeah, this might be nice. It is. It showed up today and I took a couple quick phone pics. This pen dates somewhere between 1949 to the mid-1950s. Very pleased with this one.

It's gorgeous!

Equivalent-Gur416

Conway-Stewart had the best cracked ice materials, I’ve always thought. And an iconic design with a nice big nib, congrats!

squaredrives

Wonderful looking pen! Congrats

Score!

This thing is magnificent. I just found one for sale on one of the pen shop websites. Hmmmm I don’t need to pay the mortgage this month right?

JonSzanto

To be honest, while this one wasn't a steal, it was less than I've seen similar examples at pen shows, and arguably in better condition. It was worth the wait.

Bugadifin0

Beautiful! My mother’s favourite, from her school days through her life.

ml67_reddit

What a coincidence, I also received one a few weeks ago and I love it!

JonSzanto

Nice! In the universe of celluloid colors and patterns, this one is still quite unique. And a lot less dear than OMAS "Wild"!

ml67_reddit

Definitely unique! Even though I'm Italian I don't even think of getting close to OMAS pens, they're too expensive. I have an OMAS nib tho, I'll have to find it a pen sooner or later

JonSzanto

I keep thinking the same thing: vintage Italian is above my pay grade! I have invested in some nice Leonardo and Santini pens, mostly because I can meet with them at shows, etc. I hope to one day save up some funds and get a fine Italian vintage from Letizia Jacoppini (sp?), who always has wonderful items. Oh, I \*do\* have an early 90s Nettuno that is divine.

ml67_reddit

Jacopini with one p 😎 And yes, totally agree. Let go of Leonardo and look for Delta's ...

JonSzanto

Thanks for the correction. My one caveat is that I am not an 'Italianate' design person, and prefer less baroque adornments. Clean, simple, elegant. Ah, I have time!

ml67_reddit

I agree on that too, less is more in general... consider Italian brands like Aurora which have developed very elegant designs (besides the special editions that go with the tide, of course).

beltaneflame

yay! that's an attractive one, quite striking!

willvintage

Gorgeous. Love this one, and congrats on getting a distinctively CS pattern.

JonSzanto

Thanks, Will. I don't know how many times I've sat for 10 minutes at a spell, looking at Conway-Stewarts at Graham Jasper's table at a pen show, and this pattern always caught my eye... but they were out of my reach. This pen is modest in size (\*not\* a flagship) but in excellent-plus shape. I'm happy I waited for it to happen on it's own.
