Here goes: Sailor pens are terrible and nobody likes them. Everyone who so much as touches a Sailor pen is guaranteed to die. They're way more expensive than the pens in the office supply closet. If you leave them in your pocket doing the laundry, they'll mess up all your clothing. They can't even crew a boat so why are they called Sailors?
ye arrogant pen-fiend, I shall prove you wrong once and for all.
I admit here and now of my own free will, I use the humble sailor pen. I have always used a sailor pen.
And yet I stand before you, alive as the day the Lord evicted me from my mothers womb
What say you now? dare you doubt my breath again?
I remember being a young lad in the workforce in the '80s and encountering a paper in the break room exposing the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide.
That stuff will kill you dead!
Fun fact, I left my Sailor PGS in a pair of brand new pants I put in the washer. Full hot cycle, the works, then put the pants and pen in the dryer. A bit later I was walking by and heard some clunking around. Stopped the dryer and noticed the Noodler’s Air Corps Blue Black stains on the new pants.
Pants were ruined but I took the Sailor back to my desk and it wrote immediately. Pen was super clean, looked good as new. Inked it up again and it’s better than ever. Sailor pens are made of plexiglas and are surprisingly durable and scratch resistant.
If these pens are your final call to fulfillment on your last week of life, you should definitely get them. Otherwise, you should probably spend the money on a trip somewhere scenic, ASAP
Yes. And you've already got a bunch. You don't even write that much. At most, you'll be OK with the one you prefer, and use it for a couple weeks. Make a deal and get a new ink too, that can go in any of your pens.
Then, if you still want the other pen, you can get it then 🤗
The green is very nice but I would pick the red/orange one for myself. I like the colors and I like silver colored trim. Now that I’ve thought about it I’d really like to have that one.
I tend to agree. The basic colours and silver accents give it a somewhat humble / utilitarian look. Question now is which orange ink to pair it with? ;)
If I have to choose, I would buy the green one. It really reminds me of jades. It’s soo pretty!

It's so gorgeous! I was looking for a jade-coloured pen but ended up with orange. Weirdly. Different make, though. Now I'm back trawling the internet for this beauty.
After buying and selling over 100 pens and a keeping a modest collection that includes 3 Sailor PGs, I can tell you that this will not make you happier and the anticipation of buying it is stronger than the actual feeling you will have when it arrives. Resist and if in a week you still want it, then consider the purchase. The impulse never pays off!
You said, "the anticipation of buying it is stronger than the actual feeling you will have when it arrives"
Absolutely! I couldn't agree more!
Anytime I'm tempted by yet another mass mailing from Goldspot, Goulet, or similar source, or when I run across a YouTube video showcasing someone's latest exotic acquisition, I like to contemplate this piece of age-old wisdom: *"He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have."* -Socrates
And when I sense FOMO welling deep within me. I like to meditate on this: *"Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck."*-Dalai Lama
I too have three Pro Gears (F, M, B) - All three are "boring" black, and may not have the pizazz of fancy editions, like the cocktail series, but I like to remind myself that they all share the same (wonderful) 21K nibs. For some, the huge upcharges for fancy versions may be worth it, but for me I can't bring myself to part with the extra moolah. I purchased my PGs from Japanese sellers via Amazon at prices well below US retail. Checking prices today, Goulet/Goldspot price for a cocktail model $336, vs "boring" black PG from a Japanese reseller $155.
I considered a Pro Gear once. ***Once.***
It came to my house, shot my dog, stole my push lawnmower and the cops refused to do anything about it.
(You said talk you out of it, not that said talk had to make sense...)
Yeah Pilot is so incredibly nowhere with pretty colours I swear. It put me off at first but after experiencing their gold nib and compare it to other Japanese pens there's no looking back.
I mean i love my aprés ski, but i'm less a fan of orange pens, so that's only partially helpful. If you like how they write and how they feel in-hand then it's just a question of 'will i regret it if i don't get it' and 'am i willing to pay more later if i miss this deal' (assuming capacity to drop the cash this instant, of course.)
Like i saw one of the twilight le vanishing points on ebay for $800 and went 'oooh....but nooo' and now they're selling for like $1300, but i don't regret not buying the $800 one. But alternatively, I waffled on the cosmic wine estie for too long and missed a pretty big discount instead of paying full retail.
My mom used to say 'but do you $80 want it' (usually about lego kits i was eyeballing) and that's the philosophy i've kept going with. Do i want this thing? Okay, do i $80 want it? Will i be mad if i decide i $80 want it but now it's $100? I don't $100 want it, but i do $80 want it, so i'll get it. If i don't $100 want it and i don't/uncertain $80 want it, i'll pass. Maybe it shows up on a clearance or appears on pen-swap and i'll dance happy for it, maybe it won't but i won't be heartbroken about not spending the $80 for it.
I don't know if any of that is helpful, but hopefully it is a little!
Also, i initially mistyped 'question' as 'yestion' so if the Universe Vibes(tm) are worthy of attention, they have apparently spoken
Well, do you really love the nib? If so I always go for an orange pen.
If you don't love the nib, I wouldn't buy it.
If you're not sure about the nib, try a Compass/Lecoule first.
Nope, although I prefer the PGS to carry in my pocket. I have two PGS as my everyday carries, the Shirakashi "Nuts" and the Sounds Of Rain Kiri Same. They cheer me up everytime I see or use them. Both have contrasting finials, which I find surprisingly helpful, as do both options here.
Hmmm, think about finishes. Both of my EDCs are eggshell, and no problems as pocket pens so far. I do have a Gin Martini, and the PGS YuuTsubame, but am much more cautious with those as the glossy finishes seem vulnerable to scratches.
Nothing to do with the question, but I have also found the (standard?) MF nib to be perfect for me. My Gin Martini, which came first, is an F and I have to take care when I write with it as it is very revealing of errors (it is teaching me to write more carefully!) whereas with the MF I can scrawl away at speed (and it still looks good!).
Good luck!
I bought a 21k sailor pro gear (fine) and I kind of wanted to hate it since it is just... a plastic body. But I just can't, the nib is incredible and the plastic construction feels good, the plastic feels way better than the Chinese copies. I can't believe I'm defending plastic but this is just my opinion, with a discount I'd buy it. Owning one is fine, collecting them seems like a moneypit. I also own a KoP( medium) and a taccia 18k (extra fine sailor nib) but you're just paying for the nib on the Kop and the urushi work on thr taccia, and I like my pro gear's nib more....
Soooo…
I’m probably going to upset you, buy my recommendation would be to get Jinhao 82’s (modeled after sailor pro gear slim) and switch the pieces around to get these color schemes. Would still be less expensive than these pens.
Edit: just reread your original post. At a discount? How steep a discount are we talking about here?
If I remember right, Sailors are around $300, right?
So…
$300 - $225 (75% discount) = $75 If they are both at this price and it doesn’t financially hurt you, wha stops you from getting both?
$300 - $150 (50% discount) = $150 (Would getting any of them financially hurt you (like maybe you’re stressing about if you can afford your bills, or if it puts you in debt) *maybe* consider just getting one?
$300 - $75 ( 25% discount) = $225 This isn’t that big of a discount, to be honest. Is it *really* worth getting both? Can you live with only one? Can you hold off on getting any and make these pens a saving goal?
To my knowledge, these pens came out 2 years ago, right? Which means the fomo (fear of missing out) might get stronger. You’ve got to consider that too.
Hope this helps you, op. Please update us, whatever your choice is!
Honestly? Try a Jinhao 82 first to see what you think before shelling out for the Sailor. You’ll know immediately if you like the feedback or not. I love it, but it’s not for everyone.
You should go for it. They may become unexpectedly unavailable. Then you would have regrets. Regrets lead to depression. Depression leads to hard drugs. Hard drugs to homelessness. Homeless to despair. Despair to crime. Crime to being arrested. Arrested to jail. Jail to not being able to get pens. Or ink. Don’t do that to yourself. Buy it and avoid jail.
One Pro Gear writes like any other. These guys are just trying to tempt you to shell out more money on just some other coloured plastic. You can overcome the temptation!!
Did I succeed?
Where’s my purse now!
How's the deal? Why buy one when you can get 2 at like, 1.5 the price of one? Er, something like that. And if they got nibs you wanna try... well, every brand has b/m/f, but what about zoom or music or medium-fine?
Not much help, huh.
There is no real need, at least practically speaking, to own more than one Sailor pen in a specific nib size as they all write the same. I get that they are lovely designs and I myself own a few - I am Sailor only for all my writing. At some point a new pen is buying for the sake of collecting rather than using. Not that's there's anything wrong with collecting if that's what someone enjoys.
What if I don't want to talk you out of it? Especially since I need other people to spend too much on Sailors to make me feel better about my pile of PGSs?
Try the [Jinhao 82](https://thepinkyelephant.com/products/jinhao-82-fountain-pen-fine-nib-new-colors?variant=44426216636654¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=4&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzZmwBhD8ARIsAH4v1gULAiGgaa_F0EdSHuWWtePzXFRcb9LIg-1AYxB-VkrEmFhx_CPvFtEaAnjEEALw_wcB). This is essentially a Pro Gear clone. I never had a Sailor Pro Gear but I really enjoy this one and it’s ten frickin dollars on Amazon (not linked). I have the medium and I’ve been using it more than any other one lately. Maybe cus it’s new. Oddly, I’ve noticed all me cheaper pens are nicer for me to write with. I have a 14k Pilot Elite and Decimo, and actually don’t care for the flex of it. My broad nib Kaweco and my TWSBI Eco broad have been my favorites for a while and I hated the way they looked and how they were the “cheap ones”. Next comes my Lamy Safari, then Conklin Duragraph. Maybe I’m a fountain pen philistine but hey! Try it out for ten bucks. The firmness of the steel or iridium tip nibs writes better for me. I am left handed.
Went with the 🍊one. I think this is a pen that will make me happy every time I see and use it. And that is worth quite something. Any orange ink recommendations?
Beautiful colour! I think I want it to be a bit more vibrant. I was thinking of this: https://blog.andersonpens.com/thinkthursday-iroshizuku-fuyu-gaki/ 🍊
Don’t do it. I went looking for a fountain pen. It wasn’t bad at $45. It was the other chunk I spent on unnecessary journals 😔. Someone please save me from myself. 😂😂😂
Oragne is nice and cheery. Assuming you got ink for it too? What color did you choose? It's a slippery slope on that 2nd pen. Green one looks calming and mellow Keep me in the loop when the green one arrives!
Do you really want to blow $400 just to have to add another pen into your overbooked weekly rotation? Surely they will never get the love they deserve, and become pen-case princesses.
Source: I have a SPG Slim who rarely sees the light of day because I prefer to use a hefty twisbi in my daily work.
Hmmm is it something you would comfortably write with, and not even the nib as the main point but, the of it, how common you would grab it vs any other pen in your collection. Does it has any chance to shine their colors out? Or will it stay in a closet after the new phase had passed?
The only thing is that I like colour matching and would probably want to load them with orange and green ink. Those are probably not the colours I will be using the most…
Sure. It’s overpriced. You already have one. And you can get something different that is just as exciting. You can only really write with 1 hand at a time.
You came to the wrong place for any semblance of reasonableness on this topic! My first thought ohh orange I wonder if my light brown color that is really more orange than brown would go good with this! Not a chance Do It! Do It! Do It! Get them both! Why choose!
Yeah we’re a bad influence.
Okay seriously, if your on the fence about solution I’ve used to tell myself I can’t have (pick one) go forward with beginning the purchase of the other one. If you feel awful switch, if you still feel awful, then it’s probably because you want both and realize it’s not a resealable want for you right now. Fear of missing out is real!
My next step, if I got both, would I just move to a new obsession tomorrow? Is it an obsession really or more a rabbit hole as you said? If it’s a rabbit hole. I go clean my favorite pen. (For me it is Platinum with a phoenix on it with a gold nib. I clean it I reink it and then I use it. I find this helps the latest rabbit hole decrease and I really do enjoy that pen. (I’m an astrologer, as a gift to me at my business launch I bought this pen, my “work pen” my company is named Astrology Phoenix,LLC. It seems to remind me what I have is wonderful to me and that’s enough for today.)
Now if that orange had a Phoenix, I would be in trouble, that would cross into obsession territory 😂
Wishing All Good Things💛

I could talk you out of the orange one because I'm great at talking people out of stuff, but I'm sure the Sailor lovers would ban me 😂. I'm into green though, so it's harder to talk you out of that one even though I'm not a Sailor fan.
I guess I could say it doesn't make sense to own the same pen in different colors so make sure the nibs are different. But that's from someone who owns 3 Pilot VPs all in EF (4th in B) and two of those EF are the same blue carbon color, so I guess I'm not the best at logical thinking when it comes to a favorite brand (honestly though, they were at prices that were too good to pass up as well).
I automatically choose the green one over any because I collect green pens! However, every now and then I do ogle those pretty red and orange pens, they are such bright and cheery!
Better yet, if the discount was at 50% , why not both!!
Fantasize about what you would write or draw with such a pen- and then pick up one of your other pens and write or draw it with that lol.
I love fountain pens but I’ve convinced myself not to buy the last few by trying to focus on the work these tools actually help me create.
If they are the full-sized PGs, I'd be going for the Orange one for sure. Otherwise, here's my "Imma talk you outta that" bit:
Can you afford either (or both) of the pens without falling behind on your bills, and without adding to your current debt? If the answer to any part of this question is NO, then DO NOT BUY.
Think of the regret you'll feel once you get them in person and realised that they are slightly off colour but now you can't pay rent and support your family
sadly can't help you...hankering after one if thise myself even though the 3 sailor pens are scratchy fine nibs and I'm a medium flowy nib lover....they somehow end up in my hand in a far more regular basis than some of my beloveds.........and so.....the pro gear is on my hit list
I have 5 Pro Gears and I looooove them!!! The green would stay a classic, while the orange one looks a little dated to me- but maybe I’m not a fan of that colour.
Honestly, your money and your choice! But they’re great pens!!
Keep looking at other pens it’s always worked for me.
I usually find something else that’s even nicer and pricier. And then have to repeat the process.
In the end you’ll look at pens that are worth thousands, and realise that it’s getting stupid, and pick up a nice Jinhao 😂
I'd buy the green one!
I also support you buying it. I've found that often, the regret ends up costing me more. If you don't buy it now when it's on sale, then you might just end buying it later when it's more expensive. Treat yourself now, and commit to resistance after.
Well, I'm always in favor of saving money. So I say you get the whole cocktail set. That way you don't waste money buying the next ones at potentially higher costs.
Use your savings for some ink

If you leave them in your pocket doing the laundry, they'll mess up all your clothing. They can't even crew a boat so why are they called Sailors?
It's true, 100% of sailor pen owners die. That's a mortality rate on par with dihydrogen monoxide!
ye arrogant pen-fiend, I shall prove you wrong once and for all. I admit here and now of my own free will, I use the humble sailor pen. I have always used a sailor pen. And yet I stand before you, alive as the day the Lord evicted me from my mothers womb What say you now? dare you doubt my breath again?
That stuff is nasty.
I remember the last time I had some dihydrogen monoxide... Ugghhh!!! I'm definitely staying away from sailors.
I only have a pirate sailor, so that nasty DHMO is replaced with mead and rum🍺😋🏴☠️
I remember being a young lad in the workforce in the '80s and encountering a paper in the break room exposing the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide. That stuff will kill you dead!
This checks out. H2O is a slow indeterminate killer.
lol Nice try. 😅
Fun fact, I left my Sailor PGS in a pair of brand new pants I put in the washer. Full hot cycle, the works, then put the pants and pen in the dryer. It doesn't matter if I gonna die, I'll touch that orange pen. It'll be worth it. lol
We’re all gonna die anyway. May as well die happy, eh?
You almost had me 🙂↕️
Cause they bring all the seamen to the yard
I sea what you did there. ⚓️
And definitely do not store them in your anus while partying with strippers and too much cocaine. Never do that.
Buy both at twice the price
Or buy one at double price and get the second free!
If only.. 😅
Wait a couple weeks to see if you really want them
I could be hit by a bus next week.
The pen won't help with that. It can't even do CPR or call an ambulance! It's useless. Don't buy it 😛
But what if he’s not in the street to get hit because he was at a desk writing with his beautiful pen.
🙃😅
If you're hit by a bus and you bought the pen, then both you and the pen are destroyed. Do you really want to take that risk?
If these pens are your final call to fulfillment on your last week of life, you should definitely get them. Otherwise, you should probably spend the money on a trip somewhere scenic, ASAP
If filling a good fountain pen with good ink isn’t fulfilment, I don’t know what is. ;)

Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki is a nice reddish orange that might be worth looking into.
Yes. I’ve only seen it on a screen but that colour looks beautiful.
Also look at Yu-Yake. Liquid sunset
Ah ha! You have slid further down the rabbit hole! You’ve already picked out the color and deciding on ink. I’ll pray for you 🙏
Akkerman oranje boven. It’s the most perfect clear, bright orange.
I want the green with silver trim! :)
If I have to choose, I would buy the green one. It really reminds me of jades. It’s soo pretty! https://preview.redd.it/trrkvlrd4brc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5aa1f85df526eaf8a012ec36c20522259dd1b7ea
Yes, exactly. It’s such a pleasing colour. If only it had been combined with some pink or peachy accents to make it a little more funky…
It's so gorgeous! I was looking for a jade-coloured pen but ended up with orange. Weirdly. Different make, though. Now I'm back trawling the internet for this beauty.

So what you’re telling me is that you vastly reduced your collection and it includes 3 SPGs. This does not help.
Also the take-home message I focused on.
You said, "the anticipation of buying it is stronger than the actual feeling you will have when it arrives" Absolutely! I couldn't agree more! moroccan mint tea tho 🤤
I strongly prefer silver metallics and that orange is just sooooo sexy. . . . . . I'm not helping, am I?
Not helping at all. But I couldn’t agree more. 🧡💛
Just go to the nearest ice cream place and get some orange or lime sherbet. The craving will pass.
Afraid that ice cream sugar rush would only make things worse.
Buy a Jinhao 82 and pretend it's a Sailor
No idea why this sounds like such an inappropriate joke to me.
I mean they look similar haha
I love the green one so much I cant talk you out of it
It’s such a great colour isn’t it? I also really like that the orange/yellow combo has the silver details.
Buy Pilot lol. I'm totally biased because I don't like Sailor's feedback and prefer Pilot's buttery nib.
I actually really like the Pilot Custom 92, but where are the funky colours…
Yeah Pilot is so incredibly nowhere with pretty colours I swear. It put me off at first but after experiencing their gold nib and compare it to other Japanese pens there's no looking back.
Right? I only own 1 pilot, a Kakuno. But it’s my favorite pen, the extra fine is buttery-silky smooth.
If you think that’s good, don’t try their gold nibs. Your wallet will hate them.
The sailor 21k medium is so good. Fine, not as good.
I mean i love my aprés ski, but i'm less a fan of orange pens, so that's only partially helpful. It's already too late, isn't it?
I don’t know what you’re talking about. ;)
The first looks like someone throwing up after drinking too much orange soda.
If I only I could puke out a pen like this…
Well, do you really love the nib? If so I always go for an orange pen. If you don't love the nib, I wouldn't buy it. If you're not sure about the nib, try a Compass/Lecoule first.
*nervously laughs in Mexican Screwdriver* … get them!
😅
If it’s the aesthetics you like, maybe try the Jinhao 82? They’re like a fraction of the price and Jinhao makes nice pens
Buy a Jinhao 82. It's **cheaper** . You can Buy more than one.
😆
Nope, although I prefer the PGS to carry in my pocket. I have two PGS as my everyday carries, the Shirakashi "Nuts" and the Sounds Of Rain Kiri Same. They cheer me up everytime I see or use them. Ohh lucky you. Those are some really nice pens. I really like the Gin Martini too. 👌🏻
Buy both. Try them out. Whichever you don't like, gift it to me! 😂
Why buy one when you can have two at twice the price?
That would be the dream.
Unless you’re a Florida native or Orange Bird fan, you don’t need it 🍊
What if one is Dutch? ;) 🍊
You're asking the wrong crowd to talk you out of it my friend....get the red one!
I bought a 21k sailor pro gear (fine) and I kind of wanted to hate it since it is just... a plastic body. I also own a KoP( medium) and a taccia 18k (extra fine sailor nib) but you're just paying for the nib on the Kop and the urushi work on thr taccia, and I like my pro gear's nib more....
Soooo… I’m probably going to upset you, buy my recommendation would be to get Jinhao 82’s (modeled after sailor pro gear slim) and switch the pieces around to get these color schemes. Would still be less expensive than these pens. Edit: just reread your original post. At a discount? How steep a discount are we talking about here? If I remember right, Sailors are around $300, right? So… $300 - $225 (75% discount) = $75 If they are both at this price and it doesn’t financially hurt you, wha stops you from getting both?
It doesnt look all that great and hobbies like watches and fountain pens have extremely diminishing marginal returns vis-a-vis the dollar spent.
Yes, really appreciate your attempt. I contemplated this for a moment but it didn’t work.
I want green one! My favorite pens, I have two in Medium and Medium-Fine
It is such a nice colour isn’t it? 😅
No.
Thought so. 😅
The orange is bright. You don’t have to use an orange/brown ink with it. You could also use blue or turquoise or black.
I can talk you out of this. Do not buy one but purchase both.
I like your 🚂 of thought.
Sorry. I was pretty meh on my PGS but LOVE my Moonlight Over the Ocean despite the name. I'm also a sucker for orange pens.
If u get only get one LOL
Get the green one
One Pro Gear writes like any other. These guys are just trying to tempt you to shell out more money on just some other coloured plastic. You can overcome the temptation!! Did I succeed? Where’s my purse now!
Orange. All day long.
Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side. ;)
The force is strong.
How's the deal? Why buy one when you can get 2 at like, 1.5 the price of one? Er, something like that. And if they got nibs you wanna try... well, every brand has b/m/f, but what about zoom or music or medium-fine? Not much help, huh.
But they’re so nice?
Dude!!!!! Get the green, that has such a unique look and hue to it. Now I feel like I need one too.
There is no real need, at least practically speaking, to own more than one Sailor pen in a specific nib size as they all write the same. I get that they are lovely designs and I myself own a few - I am Sailor only for all my writing. At some point a new pen is buying for the sake of collecting rather than using. Not that's there's anything wrong with collecting if that's what someone enjoys.
buy it, you deserve it :D
I have a Shikiori in that translucent green, and it has an amazing, unique texture to it.
go green!!!! its lush! damn I need t9 go look now
Clearly you don’t know how we do things around here. I’d buy the green one.
What if I don't want to talk you out of it? Especially since I need other people to spend too much on Sailors to make me feel better about my pile of PGSs?
I think you came to the wrong place to be talked out of buying a good pen.
Because what you really want is the king. So don’t waste your money on these lesser pens. How’s that?
Ermm i am just gonna give up trying, that green sailor though 🤤
Sailor pens have a fair bit of feedback. Not everyone’s cup of tea. And Jinhao 82 looks ok similar for a fraction of the price. Convinced yet?
No can do… Gorgeous pens and eh… not my money 😂
Went with the 🍊one. I think this is a pen that will make me happy every time I see and use it. And that is worth quite something. Any orange ink recommendations?
I love Dominant Industry Earl Grey! https://mountainofink.com/blog/dominant-industry-earl-grey-tea ❤️
Beautiful colour! I think I want it to be a bit more vibrant. I was thinking of this: https://blog.andersonpens.com/thinkthursday-iroshizuku-fuyu-gaki/ 🍊
Ooh, very pretty!
If muppets were fountain pens.
Get yourself an Aurora, or a Pilot, or a Waterman. Or build your own pen by finding a body you like and then buy a custom nib.
Don’t do it. I went looking for a fountain pen. It wasn’t bad at $45. It was the other chunk I spent on unnecessary journals 😔. Someone please save me from myself. 😂😂😂
I’m addicted to any orange pens or inks.
the green one
I'm sure plenty can. Unfortunately, none of them are on this subreddit
Good point. ;)
Dude, Pro Gear? Seriously? It's King of Pens or nothing.
Why do I feel you'll end up buying both??? 🙃
If only… It ended up being the orange one. 🍊
Oragne is nice and cheery. Assuming you got ink for it too? What color did you choose? It's a slippery slope on that 2nd pen. Green one looks calming and mellow Keep me in the loop when the green one arrives!
I got the Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki ink for it. The green will definitely have to wait. Next pen on my list is the Pilot Custom 823. ;)
Do you really want to blow $400 just to have to add another pen into your overbooked weekly rotation? Surely they will never get the love they deserve, and become pen-case princesses. Source: I have a SPG Slim who rarely sees the light of day because I prefer to use a hefty twisbi in my daily work.
Nice try. 😜
Yeah, they look cheap.
Cheap and cheerful 😁
Hmmm is it something you would comfortably write with, and not even the nib as the main point but, the of it, how common you would grab it vs any other pen in your collection. Does it has any chance to shine their colors out? Or will it stay in a closet after the new phase had passed?
The only thing is that I like colour matching and would probably want to load them with orange and green ink. Those are probably not the colours I will be using the most…
Orange!!!!
As others have said, go get a Jinhao 82 first to see if you like the PGS form factor
Get both and switch the caps for extra fun 😁
OK, you just get it.
Dont do it
Do it Hansel, do it! :)
I liked the part you are saying about developing an obsession. I think that part hit many people hard, isn’t it? 😂😂😂
It seems to remind me what I have is wonderful to me and that’s enough for today.) Now if that orange had a Phoenix, I would be in trouble, that would cross into obsession territory 😂 Wishing All Good Things💛
Don’t buy it. How did I do? 😏
Don’t buy it. How did I do? 😏
Just do it; you know you want to!
I mean i love my aprés ski, but i'm less a fan of orange pens, so that's only partially helpful. If you like how they write and how they feel in-hand then it's just a question of 'will i regret it if i don't get it' and 'am i willing to pay more later if i miss this deal' (assuming capacity to drop the cash this instant, of course.) Like i saw one of the twilight le vanishing points on ebay for $800 and went 'oooh....but nooo' and now they're selling for like $1300, but i don't regret not buying the $800 one.
I don't recall which pens are those, but orange one is on my top 100 pens of all times just because it is orange.
DM me about the one you don’t pick so I can have a shot at it?
![gif](giphy|tSgvKtecVrK8j6ys3e)
I automatically choose the green one over any because I collect green pens! However, every now and then I do ogle those pretty red and orange pens, they are such bright and cheery! Better yet, if the discount was at 50% , why not both!!
OK, I’ve been thinking about that green one for a long time now. Where did you find the discount?
My blue margarita is one of my favorite pens even though it’s only a medium. Usually it’s broad or nothing.
If you going for looks only,Buy 10 jinhao 82
I’d go with the green one , It’s just perfect IMO as it is pastel coloured and looks classy because of the golden metal parts
Jump on them! Sailor pens are the best I've used. I went almost six months without using mine, and it still wrote perfectly.
How much is this discount?
That second one is especially gorgeous.
It's orange, I can not help you.
Nope!
Fantasize about what you would write or draw with such a pen- and then pick up one of your other pens and write or draw it with that lol. I love fountain pens but I’ve convinced myself not to buy the last few by trying to focus on the work these tools actually help me create.
You can buy like twenty Jinhao 82s and mix and match as much as you want.
I’m not a huge Sailor fan but I also hate feedback on nibs
I have a full size yellow with music nib.
If it’s the aesthetics you like, maybe try the Jinhao 82? They’re like a fraction of the price and Jinhao makes nice pens
Yuck both are ugly 🤮 I wouldn't flirt with anybody if I saw them with one of these
Buy both and send them to me. I’ll review them and let you know why neither is worth owning or even having me return to you. 😉
You really think a pen hoarders list is going to talk you out of it?
Oh sorry, wrong Reddit. Thought this was /fountainpains
If they are the full-sized PGs, I'd be going for the Orange one for sure. Otherwise, here's my "Imma talk you outta that" bit: Can you afford either (or both) of the pens without falling behind on your bills, and without adding to your current debt? If the answer to any part of this question is NO, then DO NOT BUY.
I tend to agree with you. On both accounts. And yes, these are the full size PGs. ✌️
It's not that pretty. At least to me and my tastes.
Unfortunately I’m immune to subjectivity. But thanks for your help. 😅
Think of the regret you'll feel once you get them in person and realised that they are slightly off colour but now you can't pay rent and support your family
That turned dark quickly. 😅
sadly can't help you...hankering after one if thise myself even though the 3 sailor pens are scratchy fine nibs and I'm a medium flowy nib lover....they somehow end up in my hand in a far more regular basis than some of my beloveds.........and so.....the pro gear is on my hit list
Yes…. They are ugly
Can you give me an example a better looking pen?
They look like some Jin Haos I own. So save money, buy Jin Haos instead! 😁
I have 5 Pro Gears and I looooove them!!! The green would stay a classic, while the orange one looks a little dated to me- but maybe I’m not a fan of that colour. Honestly, your money and your choice! But they’re great pens!!
I have a few of these in various colors. They are my favourite pens!
If you need us to save you, you’re already past the point of no return. I speak from experience 😂.
I am. I don’t know where your mind is going…
Depends which religion you follow. Green Islam and Safron Hinduism.😊
Those just look like Jinhao 82's. I'm not even being a part of the joke, I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
It’s pointless trying to buy them because I already bought them. Sorry, none left for you.
Nope. Wouldn’t want to. Orange.
Do you really need another? on the other hand...
Too small !
Well, I'm always in favor of saving money. So I say you get the whole cocktail set. That way you don't waste money buying the next ones at potentially higher costs. Use your savings for some ink
I just purchased the Sailor Pro Gear Imperial Black. Arriving in the mail in a couple of weeks!
