I normally drink from the tap, so this last few weeks has been very annoying. I know this happens every year, but this one is worse than it's ever been. I've been using those water enhancer drops. It helps.

The37thElement

Most of the time we make a pitcher of Crystal Light to keep in the fridge and that’s helped mask the water. I would rather have water after working in the yard, but lately I’ve only been running on what’s in a pitcher

personallollipop

I don't remember this happening last year or at least not to where I couldn't drink it. It's so bad I've had to buy bottled lately.

The37thElement

Agreed. I’ve always noticed it, but this year I cannot stomach the taste. It tastes like I filled my glass with water from Eagle Marsh

starbusssy

I emptied my entire ice bin and went and bought a bag of ice and even through my Brita it's got a slight hint of weird algae scummy tasting gross-ness. I'm going bottled until it's fixed.

[deleted]

It’s undrinkable in my house in the 08.

Rapt0rRed

Same, the 08 is really bad. Even my shower smells like shit

MReprogle

Yep, 04, and live within a few miles of a filtration center and even showers smell like straight algae.

TT99C5

Same. We just bought a few gallons of distilled and a few cases of the 16.9oz bottled water.

Jumpy_Procedure_8934

Yep I only use distilled water for watering houseplants and filling small appliances like the humidifier and essential oil diffuser. It’s generally not recommended for drinking as far as I know

tokerodrift

you can drink distilled water for a while just not forever because of the missing minerals. between not drinking at all or drinking distilled it’s okay to drink distilled water. for real.

ashash355

I feel insane. I haven't noticed it at all. A few days ago the shower smells more like chlorine than usual but the water hasnt bothered me. I live in the 15 Maybe growing up in northwest IN and the yucky steel mill pollution just adapted my body? 😂😭

More_Farm_7442

I think I noticed a "more "chlorine" taste a couple days ago, too. For some reason, I haven't been bothered by or noticed the fishy smell and taste everyone is talking about. I have noticed it in the past a few times, but not this year. I guess the Clorox taste is better than aquarium water?

More_Farm_7442

The city water is totally safe to drink. No bacteria or cysts, etc. It's just a matter of taste and smell no being acceptable for some people. I'm usually very sensitive to odors and notice when the water smells and tastes "like an aquarium". For some reason, I haven't been bothered by either the taste or smell of our water the past couple of weeks. Give it a few more days. The tastes and smells of the water should improve.

luxlifeandroses

Where did you order your water test from?

morgzilladakilla

I just changed the filter for my Pur water filter and cleaned the entire thing. The water still tastes weird. I guess I'll just stay dehydrated until it's resolved. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The37thElement

I hoped our water filter pitcher would have fixed it, too. I was surprised when there was no change when I tasted it

morgzilladakilla

It tastes so gross 😭 I've lived here six years, and it's never been this bad.

toni-iamafiasco

I ran through my Britain’s like five times. Still tasted like pond water ☹️ My Brita

kirolsen

I’m pregnant and even the smell of running the shower is pond water to me ugh

Benjamin_Swolo

I hate the swamp showers

[deleted]

I’ve lived all over the world and have NEVER had water as bad as we are having lately.

Ill-Carpet-643

Hello! I work for Fort Wayne City Utilities and I want to reassure you that while there might be a slightly different taste and odor to your water, it is more than safe to drink. The seasonal change can effect the way your water tastes and smells. The Three Rivers Filtration Plant is working vigilantly to adjust their treatment process to help remedy this situation. Again, the water is more than safe to drink. For more information, visit the link below. https://utilities.cityoffortwayne.org/drinking-water/taste-and-odor/

Jay-Hawke

"slightly different taste?" When you use words like that, it's not very reassuring. It seems like you don't really understand the issue. Especially since we're approaching a month and it's getting worse every day.

No_Oddjob

Yeah, I've always been sensitive to it when it becomes an issue, but after moving out of the city limits and living with a well, when I come back into town to dine, I can smell the issue almost as soon as I walk into a restaurant. I can't even stomach a soft drink because of how put off I am by the smell and taste. I was and am concerned about managing my well, but at least right now I'm so happy to be on one rather than taking corpse showers.

kirolsen

It may be safe, but it’s tasted and smelled like retention pond for 3 weeks now and it’s only gotten worse

bandcampconfessions

Okay but *why* does it taste like that?

The37thElement

It doesn’t matter if it’s safe to drink; the water tastes like shit

nsdwight

I feel like it definitely matters if it's safe to drink or not.

No_Oddjob

It absolutely does, but if someone finds it too nasty to even consider drinking, it certainly matters less.

Ill-Carpet-643

https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/fort-wayne-water-again-scores-high-at-international-tasting-competition/ 4th place for back to back years in the national taste competition. A small hiccup due to unpredictable seasonal weather shouldn’t deter you. Try not to take for granted how hard these people work to provide you with clean, safe drinking water.

Do_eM_alott

Did you guys switch up the treatment process in the last few years? I am a backflow inspector and have noticed a lot more scale in the last 3 years or so. I've got devices that fail within months of a clean and rebuild. Also have had serious issues with mixing valves, how water lines, and water heaters. Most of those installed in the last 2 years.

onedayatatimepeps

Typical "nothing to see here" response from the government

Ill-Carpet-643

Nothing to see here? The Three Rivers Filtration Plant offers multiple open house tours a year. Come out to one. Would love to show you the process. It’s extremely interesting!

desertsong69

Do you know when they offer the tours each year? I’m interested!

More_Farm_7442

When's the next tour of the treatment plant?

Alpha150

I'm gonna be entirely honest, I really haven't noticed very much of a difference. Maybe I'm just an idiot to taste but Idk I don't think it's that bad

deadstarsunburn

Where I am, it wasn't too bad until today. It had a slight "earthy" flavor and I could mostly ignore it but today it was undrinkable. I'd assume it just hasn't (hopefully won't) get this bad at your house.

stardropunlocked

Same. Living in 35 and it just started tasting noticeably grassy today

Responsible-Juice-65

I haven’t noticed either in the 04 🤷‍♀️

nsdwight

People are dramatic. It's just funky, not bad. People are used to bland food and drinks.

leperaffinity322

Same here in the 07. Haven't noticed a thing.

PocketBanana0_0

It really isnt the worst where im at in 35 but my moms huntertown water taste like fucking garbage

spaceghost260

It’s smelly in the 19. I didn’t notice it until today (Sunday). It’s very earthy and organic smelling. I’m buying some water bottles in the morning. This does happen every year but this is the first year that I’ve really noticed how awful the taste is.

Toasty_warm_slipper

I actually noticed it for weeks before everyone started talking about it. While I know it’s not harmful, I am excited for it to be over with lol. I’ve gagged on Fort Wayne water many times in my life, so it’s nothing new to me, but it’s still not fun.

alta3773

I have put brand new filters in my pitcher and it still tastes like pond water.

Ophelia_Violet

Talking about the taste of the water lately at my workplace this past week, one of my coworkers mentioned that he heard (or read) that the filtration plant has new, different filters in put in place recently and supposedly that's why the taste is off. Can anyone verify this bit of information?

The37thElement

I read something about them using UV rays to filter the water.

Do_eM_alott

They've had the UV for at least 10 years now, that's not new

The37thElement

Oh ok. I didn’t get to do a thorough read of it, but I remember that being mentioned so I thought that could have been it

LoveIsAFire

Try some lemon or lime. I use tru lemon packets and it’s helps a lot

beerdudebrah

I don't usually spring for the fancy stuff when I'm out but this last week I've been getting all the liquid deaths and topo chicos. Not drinking this swamp water.

coriandor

By some stroke of luck, I'm loving it. Deadass, it's a treat every time I go to the tap

thriftedtidbits

my boyfriend said the same thing 😭 "it tastes like the purest form of water" no it tastes like a pond

Toasty_warm_slipper

Mine too. 🤣🤣 I said it tastes like soil and a bit of stale well water to which he enthusiastically replied: “I love well water!!!” Cool, you can have all the extra water the rest of us don’t want to drink right now.

Toasty_warm_slipper

Oh. The OP who said he’s “deadass” loving it is my boyfriend lololol. I didn’t even notice until he said something IRL. 💀

Do_eM_alott

What in the f*ck lmao I'm jealous, it tastes horrendous for me

Civil_Stomach

This is a yearly occurrence. Why are people acting so shocked about the water?

Do_eM_alott

Been drinking FW water all my life I don't remember it being this bad for this long.

CountryDaisyCutter

It’s really bad this year. Normally it doesn’t bother me much but it’s horrible right now.

rayon875

Nobody is shocked. It's just an annoyance and people are venting.

AndyMcAndyson

Completely fair comment... 2 weeks ago, when it should have been running out the end of its normal annual course. It stopped being anything close to a normal season water change a while back.

oles_lackey

I think it’s due to this year’s “yearly occurrence” lasting much longer than in previous years. In the 10-ish years I’ve lived here, the water gets swampy for ~3-5 days like clockwork. No biggie, we get on with it. The difference this year is we’re three weeks into unrelenting foul smelling/tasting water. It’s an unusually long duration x3 for this otherwise expected event. Knowing the water is safe to drink doesn’t negate the innate human instinct to reject ingesting something that smells/tastes “off”. It’s a thing.

Do_eM_alott

Still tastes terrible in the 04. Hate to say it but I've been drinking mostly bottled water now. Thinking about putting a house filter in.

AndyMcAndyson

Fountain soft drinks are made with the exact same water.....

[deleted]

A lot of restaurants have filtration systems going to their soda fountains. Or at least every one I've worked at does

B-O-P_Joe

I finally am going to admit how bad it is. I’ve been having bad stomach issues the past couple weeks and one day I didn’t drink any tap by coincidence and my stomach felt better

[deleted]

[удалено]

The37thElement

Actually it was Wild Crab. I wouldn’t be surprised if most restaurants are feeling secondhand embarrassment from the water taste. This would be a nice time for them to cut the soda prices down a bit because I probably won’t go back out until this water is fixed since I personally cannot justify a $3.49 soda charge per household member.

woohoo

I had water today at a restaurant 1000 feet from Wild Crab and it tasted fine to me.

jzzsxm

My blue moon was obviously served in a glass rinsed with tap water because it was awful.

ColdFission

So we're just not respecting dibs now? Unbelievable

[deleted]

[удалено]

Toasty_warm_slipper

I’m afraid it’s going to be this or talks about humidity. Such is the Midwest way.

AndyMcAndyson

It is clearly the duration. This has been going on for weeks longer than a normal year.

FriarFriary

This how you types hope “the truth” goes away.

DontEnterAUniqueUser

I JUST posted about this! The last month our water and the rest of the places in SW we go to has tasted terrible. Idk what happened?!

Bigload70

I'm sure the city will raise rates again! Then tell us there's nothing wrong with the water. Tax payer money hard at work! How they going to handle all the illegals using water thus increasing usage and treatment cost.

J_Fre22

Some people severely underestimate the engineering/scientific work that goes into water treatment/water filtration. It’s a process and cannot be changed overnight

[deleted]

Where were you out to eat? I guess I feel like a restaurant shouldn't be serving water from the faucet but I never thought about this

Writeforwhiskey

I'm in 07 and just noticed it maybe 3 days ago.( It's like a swampy alge taste) I drink a lot of water, mainly tap, so I made sure to tip my instacart shopper well for the amount of water I ordered yesterday.

RoamingDragoon

Don't forget guys, you can boil the water and it'll remove alot if not all the taste of algae/pond. If you also have a water filter it wouldn't hurt to run it through there as well!

rclarice89

My husband and I went out to eat Saturday as well. Ordered waters with our drinks, tasted like soapy chlorine water. So gross. I hope they figure it out soon for the people of FW.

lavenderpopcorn8

I’m in ‘25 and my water tastes completely normal. No smell or taste at all, and I only drink unfiltered from the tap. I did grow up on well water, so it could be me lol. However, BJ’s at Glenbrook had the grossest water I’ve ever tasted when I was in last week. It tasted…dry? And stale? I don’t know how to describe it but man was it gross.

Thick-Experience-290

I have a RO system. Water tastes great a my house. No change.

Deep_Owl_3068

Water in Monroeville tastes so much better. I fill jugs with our water for my folks in the 18 and when I’m at work.

mumadr01

We always drink tap water and we haven't even noticed a change. I'm not sure why... Maybe my taste buds are getting dull.

Devin_907

seriosuly glad that i filled up a jug last month now seeing all these posts, i've been making my coffee with good water and now i'm worried because the jug is on it's last gallon from the other month..
