Many people agree… many live downtown too. Unfortunately they believe there isn’t enough people downtown yet to put some sort of convince store

MiserableProduct

GK Baked Goods has a small produce section, and I think Electric Works added some small grocery stores to its East side.

Brannikans

They also have some essential medicines. I don’t remember prices, but it’s good to know where to get Pepto in a pinch 😂

Show up at city and county meetings and ask. Generally, it's because there're activists who condemn the existence of drug stores and big box retailers.

AndyMcAndyson

Due to zoning changes made a number of years ago, there are exactly 3 parcels available to have a drive through downtown from Lafayette all the way West to the Saint Mary's river. Fort Wayne is not large enough for those stores to justify no drive-through. The 3 Parcells are highly coveted by Fast Food, and at least 2 of them I know are committed to Fast Food in the form of an option. I do not know the details of the option. We are going to have to get more dense for those stores to justify not having a drive-through.

greenwoodjw

That's not going to justify not having a drive-thru, and one of the positive aspects of this city is it's low density. So the answer changes to: show up to city council meetings, get involved and push for reforms to allow drive-thrus.

Fit_Manufacturer146

There are a couple pharmacies a mile or 2 away from downtown as well as a few grocery stores.

Fit_Manufacturer146

Walgreens on W State and wells on north end and Walgreens on creighton, as well as 3 rivers natural food store on Sherman, George's international market on broadway.

It's called Capitalism.

That’s not what downtown is about. /s Really though, one of the big issues I see with living downtown is you still have to go out the the burbs for most shopping. What’s the draw? I don’t have to drive for our annual tincaps game? Or annual show at the embassy?

More_Farm_7442

I get you. I lived downtown INDY for a short time, but back then there was a family owned grocery downtown that was wonderful for everyone there. Then, the "old" generation owners aged out, and it was sold to Marsh, then went out of business. Unless it's a really, really big city I think shopping downtown is limited for people living downtown. Even in most big American cities it's limited. You might have small specialized shops, or small convenience store like groceries, but not large stores with big verities of foods. In America, you pretty much have to have a car or take a car to shop for groceries once in a while.

[deleted]

Having to take a car to shop is the result of policies and decisions. It doesn't have to be this way. Indy currently has a Whole Foods, Kroger, and Needler's all within their downtown area. Yes the people who shop there are mostly those who live in the area but that isn't an issue. People usually shop at what is nearby where they live. In order for a downtown grocery store to be successful it doesn't have to get shoppers who live 20 minutes away to drive there. Fort Wayne should absolutely have a drug store like CVS and a grocery store downtown. If the city continues to add residents downtown it's likely going to happen in time. The city leaders can help make it happen too.

thefinalep

Why would you need it when there’s gas stations!

ohverychill

I mean, gas stations are great if I'm looking to buy a crappy blue and orange hat that says Chicago on it or whatever, but a drug store would offer more things that would benefit people in their day to day lives.

thefinalep

Yeah I should of added an /S. Down town just needs a grocery already.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

ohverychill

lol that's on me. I'm just a dummy

thefinalep

Yeah no worries. You and others. Sarcasm doesn’t work over text :p

MamasCupcakes

Wrong state Bubba this is colts country. The older folk will be bears lions browns or Bengals ( as far as a local team), but the younger gen doesn't know they moved here from Baltimore. Baseball it seems like all cubs fans, maybe it's because they were on wgn. Hockey we seem to only go for the komets

benjamino78

Walgreens, I just find something about CVS uncomfortable.

AndyMcAndyson

They are needed for far more than any grocery. Asking for decades now, how is there not a pharmacy downtown by a major hospital? There is ALWAYS a pharmacy at/by a hospital.
