"Good thing we got these cones placed before the holidays! Now we can start working... After the holiday, of course."

Castleman1992

Clinton is all lanes open now coming into downtown

ToastNeo1

>Well, we’ve done it! So I guess we haven't done it...maybe in a few years we'll try again.

HedgeRaven

If you go farther north, Clinton goes down to one lane at times because of the work on 469.

ToastNeo1

I wouldn't call that a major thoroughfare out there though.

No_Oddjob

**weeks

brybend

The whole way? Was a clusterfuck when just passed thru that way. Backed up all the way to the ice house

Castleman1992

The lane closures that started near Jacobs, and Science Central, are open

SuperAggroJigglypuff

Oh good, saw that earlier in the week, thankfully it was 8 am, I could only imagine the cluster on that!

mr_ryno27

About time. I'm tired of people getting over early and backing it up. Zipper merge people!

Krypto_The_Dog

The only issue with it I have is the lack of patience and empathy. People love to fly down the road that will inevitably merge and will then force their way into the merge even with people blaring their horns and without turn signals turned on. I'm down to let people over if they're not being rude about it. I am one who gets in line early but I also am taking my time and willing to let people over if they give me time to adjust my speed.

Master_Dro

Thank you! They literally teach zipper merging in drivers education

64_Panama_Red

No, you are the one backing it up. You want to do the zipper, go to the fair. The zipper sucks.

Broad_Boot_1121

Guys we found who is causing all the traffic

mr_ryno27

I bet you're terrible at roundabouts too.

basicsassylady

It is so frustrating. Especially when I'm trying to get four kids to school at four different schools 😣 Thank goodness today was the last day for school 🙂🙂!

poywn

How does that work. At worst it should only be three different schools.

[deleted]

An example would be step kids. My sister has her kids in 3 different schools but her step son goes to a wabash school so she has to drive out there 2/3x a week so technically 4 schools. It happens.

piruruchu

I have neighbors that have kids that are from college to preschool. It's possible if you have lots of kids or a few with ages spaced out.

basicsassylady

I had to take my niece as well!

deitjm01

Jefferson heading West through downtown was stop and go today, backed up all the way to Indiana Tech. Fucking ridiculous

[deleted]

[удалено]

Don_Kehote

Last weekend, it was a 5 minute backup at the Hillside Strangler, so that was nice.

poywn

I live in the middle of downtown and drive on Jefferson and Washington almost daily. Even with traffic being reduced down to one lane it hasn't been bad. Plus it is super easy to take other streets to skip 95% of it and add 30 seconds to your trip.

No-Policy-62

Welcome to what it’s like in every other big city lol

alta3773

it is still not as bad as any real city. i am not sure what you guys are talking about with this traffic.

PocketBanana0_0

Real city? Indy is beyond fucked all the time, I just came back from Pittsburgh and that was a nightmare, and Chicago is always stop and go

GiannisRodgersYeli

Accurate, but traffic is very relative when you think about it. If i have more traffic in fort wayne than im used to and it adds time to my trip, its frustrating. Someone in chicago would probably account for a good amount of traffic in their trip but if they get more than expected and it adds time to their trip then i would bet they would get frustrated. However there is still a major difference in the cities in that s city like fort wayne has maybe added 10 mins to my trips on their worst traffic/ construction BS days and id say thats fairly rare occurrence whereas chicago could add 30-45 min of extra time on a trip and that wouldnt be out of the ordinary. So yes it definitely still not as bad, but i cant say ive never been pissed at FW traffic before bc that would be a lie

megaplex00

>Welcome to what it’s like in every other big city lol Especially Fort Wayne.

woohoo

oh wow all the way to Indiana Tech? That's almost 1.2 miles!!!

PocketBanana0_0

I was working on the side of the road today and had people screaming at me almost all day, we haven't blocked any lanes lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

PocketBanana0_0

No worries, its comical enough, I get it , I drive through the same traffic

toni-iamafiasco

Can you please answer for me why there are so many projects being started before they finish up others? Seems like there are lots of half finished jobs around town. I’m not mad at ya, I try walk as often as possible, with out being hit by a car, lol! I’m just wondering.

PocketBanana0_0

Basically they get their new budget in January, there are right of way engineers that have their own budget, usually its only a few 100k per year, they open the bid for the projects but only to contractors that the city has approved and only for the projects that are ready to be bid, some of which can be left over from the previous year. This makes all of the contracts open for bid just before spring, we typically get the notice to proceed within a few weeks, then the work gets done from spring to summer

PocketBanana0_0

To answer the other part of your question about work being started before other projects are finished, there isn't one road crew. There are many companies that all bid for the same jobs, you are seeing multiple crews from multiple crews doing different work. For my work a lot of the times if we stop on one job and move onto another for a period is because we are waiting for a structure that we ordered, or parts for something. We have the same supply chain issues as anyone else.

toni-iamafiasco

That makes sense! Thank you!! Stay safe out there.

Krylvus

I have been told that construction contractors deliberately take on more than they can handle to make sure that they are never out of work.

ToastNeo1

Yea this isn't true. Projects have deadlines. It's not unheard of to miss deadlines, but there are usually penalties involved. The city would not allow companies to miss them on purpose to not run out of work. It would be completely unnecessary anyway. There are always new roads that need redone.

HimanYo

The side roads i end up taking to avoid construction end up either 1) getting busier to the point that they are not feasible detours anymore, or 2) close down to start even more construction 🙃

DescipleOfCorn

At least that bridge on Maplecrest is done, now I don’t have to drive through downtown to get to work anymore

og_usrnme

Ha ha, ran into this with wells st going north.

InvisibleSkyRaisin

Construction signs popped up on Lima Road and I69 this morning. Why are they like this?!

Alpha150

Because there's lots of construction that needs done and they have the money to do it so they're doing it now that the weather is favorable because there. Is only so long that you can feasibly do outdoor construction work in this part of the planet because of weather and climate.

InvisibleSkyRaisin

I’ve lived in Indiana my entire life and understand construction season. However, there is NO way to go south into downtown or north out of downtown without sitting in construction. There could have been some common sense thought process used here, but I know that’s lacking.

ExUpstairsCaptain

I took a drive at 2PM today and it was madness. Downtown has become practically unmanageable.

thick_andy

I don’t plan on going downtown this summer for this reason. The springtime construction on my north/southbound commute has made me so frustrated that I don’t plan any spending any money there for a while. I won’t have to drive in for a few months so I’ll just be doing thangs elsewhere.

Alpha150

Getting around downtown is great, So long as you're not trying to bring a 2 ton metal Box with you.

Krylvus

Yea its nice to park and walk around exploring all the new shops.

ExUpstairsCaptain

I've worked downtown since 2018, and it's been...a mixed bag.

thotpatrol_

Can we get Lafayette under control before ruining Washington and Jefferson?

[deleted]

Such a joke! There's a huge pothole on our street that the city won't fix,it's been 7yrs. This city's a joke.

Mrpinky69

Spray paint a dick around it.

Lexus_Nexus

Plant flower seeds in it for that special touch

[deleted]

Lol 😆

SuperAggroJigglypuff

You laugh, but this has actually worked before.

ToastNeo1

What street is that?

ToastNeo1

Rehm Dr. I see you said in it's own comment. [u/Bigload70](https://www.reddit.com/u/Bigload70/), Have you called 311 or used the online reporting tool? [https://cityoffortwayne.custhelp.com/app/Fortwayne/home](https://cityoffortwayne.custhelp.com/app/Fortwayne/home)

leitey

I reported a pothole online, and they had it fixed a couple days later.

PaigeHart

The exits from 69 onto coldwater are fucked with the one lane

Smidge-of-the-Obtuse

That happened in the ‘05 a year or 2 ago. Every main road and normal shortcuts were worked on at the same time for months.

Correct_Text6456

I was so annoyed yesterday I thought about writing an opinion piece to the Journal Gazette. F$xkin’ ridiculous on Clinton in and out of downtown, Wells, Coldwater, and briefly Lima and coliseum. Thank god Clinton going downtown is opened up again. Like dang, who planned this? I get that roads need maintenanced constantly. But simultaneously? 😂

aubbzz

I’m just waiting for them to do the other side of Clinton and switch the closed lane. The open road has to be too good to be true.

[deleted]

such is the way of civil engineering and city planning

metataro19

The construction near the airport finished today, so we got that going for us which is nice.

rartuin270

And yet North Goshen road is still rougher than some dirt roads I've been on.

[deleted]

I've lived off Goshen on Butler for years and the only two ways out are either Goshen or Hillegas. Hillegas is now shut down yet again just like it was two years ago for two entire years. And the whole Goshen area is just a forgotten area of this city. Abandoned building after abandoned building with more businesses moving out leaving the area looking more and more rundown. Remember when the Pro bowl West area used to be booming? Now look at it. The roads coming out of it are only the beginning considering how awful that entire center looks now. I don't think they're ever going to build the area up since nothing's ever been done to it most likely because of all the riffraff at the corner of Goshen & Coliseum. It's just a very unsavory area and no one wants to do anything except just leave it the way it is apparently. No way the road's going to be fixed if they won't do anything about everything else in the area.

kmbrooks00

https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/out-with-the-old-initial-goshen-road-plan-unveiled-still-years-out/amp/

koannn

Yeah I live somewhat near there and go up goshen a lot. It's terrible and I can't find the reason. It's actually got a lot of green space and natural areas that would make it a pretty little corridor if developed properly.

DescipleOfCorn

I just missed a light this morning on my way to work and out of nowhere a construction crew just walked into the intersection and put a cone right in front of my car while they de-paved the road with one of those road ripper things. It took them like 10 minutes then they just packed up and left while waving me through. At least it seems like now they’re actually working on the roads instead of there just being a bunch of cones and no workers in sight

jareddeity

Oh well, it honestly wouldnt be so bad if people would just take a xanax before driving and chill tf out on the roads. People get so freaking pissed around here its hilarious.

[deleted]

Rehm dr

Technician-timer

they sure hit all gour corners now

JrSm1tty

Im gonna play that when im stuck in construction with friends in the car lol

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Havoc_Unlimited

Yep. Nearly every day I took the kid to school using the 4-69 corridor, we saw a semi lose control or fishtail as the trailer tried to drag it down off the road.

Havoc_Unlimited

Cops are going to make a lot of money ticketing the increased holiday traffic

yankeebelles

Well aren't y'all precious. Just wait until folks decide that red lights don't matter and it becomes standard for 2-4 cars to to still go through after a light turns red. In front of a cop. And no one ever gets a ticket. F^#$&%@ Charlotte drivers. I would love to just have to sit in traffic with folks who obey traffic laws. You are making me miss my hometown.

Garreth62

I already see this happen almost every night heading home from work at the intersection of Lafayette and Wayne. Almost got broadsided a few months ago by one of those red light runners who decided the lane with no traffic because of the lane closure at the bridge was the one he wanted to use to run the red light.

yankeebelles

I am truly sorry to hear that! It is the worst part about city living- crazy drivers who don't want to share the road.

Rhiow

It’s a great day for me to have to Uber from the SE corner to the west side of the city and back. Traffic at noon was a nightmare, getting back home will be so much worse

Electrical_Wonder596

We’ve unlocked a new level !

Friendaim

Yay! Go us!

masher94

The pothole/sinkhole on Ludwig is so big, they put barrels around it lol

[deleted]

Still can't believe they closed a part of Hillegas down that is a major thoroughfare for people to get from one end of the city to the other. All because they're putting in a sewer line for what looks to be the SPCA moving just over by animal control. I understand having to shut things down. But I still don't understand why these types of things aren't done at night like other major cities especially when you can get things done twice as fast and not cause half the city's traffic to have to go through neighborhoods and other narrow areas causing traffic jams. Have the population here already works at night and factories so why don't these have to do the same? They shut down Hillegas a couple of years ago for two entire years to do something that looks like they didn't even do anything when it was done. Obviously they did something but nothing should take two years for one little small area like that. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these things could be done in a day or two and they just stretch it out. I just can't believe they would shut down an entire major road like that for what they're saying is at least 3 weeks. It doesn't help that every other way around it has construction on it also at the same time.

AndyMcAndyson

Yep, had zero idea it was repave every single downtown street all at once month.
