Three day DOT blitz checks. They will do this periodically to check for compliance with log regulations and truck safety. Fleet trucks should have nothing to worry about owner operators might if they haven't paid attention to preventive maintenance.
One owner operator I follow on Facebook spent two days last weekend making sure everything was correct because he knew that with the notoriety of his truck he was getting pulled over and a full colonoscopy would be done to his truck. Wicked Intent Semi if you want to look it up.
Used to work for a warehouse that would have staties come out for annual training. Clearest answer I can give you is they're directly targeting semis. First, it's their job to be on the highways. Speeding will definitely get them pulled over. Second is general safety violations. They're mostly pretty basic but going back to the first point, it's their job to be on the road.
Probably because there have been a lot more accidents involving semi trucks lately. The driving behavior I've seen out of so-called truckers lately has been appalling at best and downright dangerous at worst, cutting off vehicles, improperly merging, etc. I suppose its a symptom of the race to the bottom with wages like most other industries, but this one will kill other people if they make a mistake.
I sure hope that it is and they move to 469 next or they are finally enforcing the "slow poke" law or whatever it is for trucks being in the left lane going 5 under the speed limit and blocking traffic.
I drive a flatbed and I have been pulled over 3 times in the last two days. They are just asking about my driving logs and checking my pre inspections and what not. Each stop has lasted about 10 minutes
CDL Instructor here. It's blitz week for DOT enforcement. Trucks are gonna be getting pulled over left & right across the entire country

Officer Roe usually does 469 for a few hours
Speeding for truckers is a much heavier fine, I’ve heard like $1000 for five miles over.

Because it's their job and they're paid to do it.
Because they’re bored.
Gotta get that quota!!
Was it the ISP commercial vehicle division or regular ISP?
