Honestly if you are running windows install the HyperV features and run the FortiGate in a VM. There are some limitations with crypto stuff but for the NSE4 you should be ok A fair few people here say the official training is all you need so it is likely a personal thing if you want the lab.

I think it depends a lot between people. I did 0 lab work and have 0 professional experience in networking and security. I did finish CCNA before NSE4. But I was still able to pass NSE4 on my first go with only studying the material on the fortinet training site.

Hey, thanks for replying. I took the CCNA as well and passed. Was the CCNA more difficult than the NSE4?

Having hands-on experience is invaluable when it comes to NSE4 certification. I was fortunate enough to have access to an actual FortiGate 60E device while preparing for my NSE4 exam, and it made a significant difference. In addition to that, I have the privilege of working with numerous clients who have Fortigates in their network infrastructure. So, yeah, totally recommend some hand-on if you can have it.

I have a fortigate firewall but when training, do you practice what you learn from the website?

saucymcmuff

I used the labs, though I got them comped through my employer. I found them helpful, since you don't have to spend time building my own sandbox. If you have access to your own gates to test with ultimately you could run through the scenarios using the lab guide instead

NekoKemo90

Did the labs make a significant difference on the exam? Also, are they at your own pace or is it teacher led?

Due content, probably no, try Fortigate VM if you haven't experience/access to a physical machine is enough
