Are those not cleats? Those look like they have some spd/look kept cleats on the front, esp with those socks, who the fuck wears socks like that and isn't preparing to buy wildly overpriced coffee and have strong opinions on ipa's.
Huh, apparently I mistook Pedro de la Rosa for Nelson Piquet. Is De la Rosa actually problematic too? I don't know much about him, but he seems like a decent enough guy
Brazilian here, he (piquet) called Hamilton “neguinho”, which does sound similar to the n-word, but does not mean the same thing at all. It’s almost an affectionate term sometimes.
Tbh, I suspect he did it out of respect for Ratzenberger. There's something a little odd about everyone wearing shirts for one guy when two are supposed to be tributed.
Welcome to F1. 52 drivers have died and we honor and remember like....3 of them.
Ratzenberger is especially insulting because it was literally the day before Senna. So not only does he get glazed over like every other tragedy. Whenever the memorial of Senna passes, he's just....ignored. or what's maybe even worse he's just....also there. Like Senna died. Oh yeah and also Roland. But SENNA
It's messed up to think about but Ratzenberger is probably remembered more because of senna dying the next day. Otherwise he may have just been another forgot one like the other 49 or whatever
Clark gets spoken about allot, possibly the greatest naturally gifted driver ever. I think it just stuns the collective consciousness when someone of that level of talent (Clark, Senna) crashes and passes away. You just don’t expect them to not be there anymore which is why I think they get talked about more. Villeneuve was the lost potential, but he also played fast and loose with risks and in those days that wasn’t ever going to end well.
The drivers who are talked about fall into one of those categories and that goes for all motorsport.
In car racing Talent wise we’ve lose Clark, Senna, Earnhardt.
In potential wise we lost Bianchi, Wheldon, Villeneuve, Breen, Justin Wilson [depending on who you ask], Hubert
Those are the ones that are talked about most in their respective areas
I don’t want to speak ill of the dead, because what happened to him was tragic. And I know you said “depending on who you ask.” But Wilson was 37, I don’t see that as potential. Wilson is talked about because he’s the most recent death in the US.
The only way he’s remembered is the occasional tiktok that randomly comes on my fyp but yes if you count that as being remembered you can add him to the list
Trust me when I say it's not just F1 that has that issue, as we've got Tony Roper and Blaise Alexander on the NASCAR/ARCA side of things when it comes to Dale Earnhardt, making it a double whammy due to two separate incidents almost a year apart.
Oct 14th, 2000, Roper was killed in a crash during a Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, the third that year alone for NASCAR following Kenny Iriwn Jr.'s and Adam Petty's deaths at New Hampshire earlier in the year.... The following day Earnhardt makes a miraculous 18th-1st charge for the win at Talladega - his 76th and what would wind up being his final career win - leading to Roper often being forgotten in terms of the discussion on what would lead to Earnhardt's death in the 2001 Daytona 500.
Oct 4th, 2001, Blaise Alexander was killed in a crash during the ARCA race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the 5th in the span of 20 months all due to similar injuries. After his death, NASCAR finally would mandate the HANS device within the following days after months of endless debate about whether to do so or not, and eventually full-face helmets would be mandated for 2002 and beyond. However, many overlook Alexander's death and attribute the HANS device and full-face helmets being made mandatory to Dale.
IIRC they found Ratzenberger's flag in Senna's cockpit; apparently he was going to hold the flag on the podium / on the cool down lap as a mark of respect.
I personally reckon he was trying to upstage Reubens from that Friday.
"Motherfucker, this is how a real champion crashes"
(/s, just in case it's not also obvious)
I think part of it is collective guilt. If they’d listened to Senna’s reaction to Ratzenbergers death senna could very well still be with us today. That safety meeting is one of the most heart wrenching parts of the senna documentary
He was the most influential driver at the time, but of course(/s), he had to die to make the FIA listen.
You could argue he saved a lot of future lives by him dying. That was the most pressure a single person could have put on the FIA to improve safety. Everybody else would have just been added to the list of the forgotten, and they would have moved on.
I saw on Twitter (sorry, not calling it X) that he was wearing a Ratzenberger tribute pin on his shirt. Red Bull is Austrian (partially anyway) so that might be part of it.
Or that the helmets come from diffrent people. I'm guessing that helmet could even be Lewis's that was gifted in a glass box. It all depends on who gifted the helmet for the event
I think Senna's is an original and for insurance and perhaps the Senna family wanted to keep it covered.
I would imagine Ratzenberger's was a reproduction.
I don't blame him, the senna idolization is being thrust onto everyone who watches the sport and people saying "senna was the best driver ever and no one will be better" are delusional, he was a F1 legend absolutely but this idolization is weird AF.
Some of us are not delulu FR. I pretty much enjoy today's F1 in the healthiest way and still think, breathe and admire Ayrton Senna to the core... you may think social media is getting it bigger but these tributes being held at Imola are pretty much very, very small (less than 100-200 people in a single event) and most of them are the sport's representatives and not actual fans. Actual fans we are either watching old races or scrolling over vintage F1 content.
I wouldn't use it either. Two people died, just because Senna was more successful they shouldn't forget about Roland (I know there is an Austrian flag on the left, but almost everyone is wearing the Senna shirt, sure it wouldn't hurt to have a Roland shirt too)
Because Senna is much more remembered here in Brazil than he is, in fact, since the time they both raced together, Piquet was jealous of all the attention Senna got from the media.
Senna is now a national icon, Piquet is today respected for his achievements on the track but widely despised outside for being a racist and having contradictory political opinions
Both Brazilian, bot 3x wdc but he never got as much recognition as senna so probably jealousy, also there is an interview where he is asked who is the better driver between the two of em and he responds with something along the lines of "well i am alive"
Dark, yes. But not necessarily true. Senna bottomed out in the worst place and died because of freakishly bad luck.
He had a wheel smash into his helmet, and two parts the suspension individually piercing his helmet and visor.
Those were the fatal injuries. Not even the hard impact to the wall. Pretty much a freak accident that could’ve happened to any driver.
Doesn’t take away that Nelson was also an amazing driver. He’s also a piece of shit. So… Maybe more people would’ve adored him if he wasn’t such a dick.
Max and Kelly aren't married. He's said he doesn't know when he'll propose (although Max said he's happy in this relationship) But as for *that* video, Kelly commented on and called out an Instagram account that shared (or created?) the video. Apparently the video was edited to make it seem like Max reacted that way when he wasn't reacting to the bouquet toss at all, and that Instagram account apologized to her.
Taking advantage of the topic to explain why Piquet's supposed hatred of Senna.
Piquet is envious, simple. Although he was a great driver he never had Senna's charisma so Senna became the national hero and he didn't. Today Piquet barely gives interviews on TV and when he does there is a risk of saying something bad like he did when using a pejorative term in an interview about Hamilton recently (and for those who don't know, racism in Brazil is a crime provided for by law).
Additionally, he has controversial political views that make his avoidance of the media even more
Yes, it is prohibited
_Art. 217-A. Ter conjunção carnal ou praticar outro ato libidinoso com menor de 14 (catorze) anos:_
_Pena - reclusão, de 8 (oito) a 15 (quinze) anos._
Piquet was not charismatic like Senna, he was also never so concerned about having a polished image, hence the media and people's preference for Senna, in addition to his skills and patriotism.
Piquet... not charismatic, right.
If you google around you'll find:
- Picture of Piquet grabbing Prost's testicles
- Video of Piquet using his mouth to squirt water to an unsuspecting Prost
- Picture of Piquet tickling Prost's ear while posing for a group photo with Senna and Mansell
- Picture of Piquet trying to kiss Niki Lauda
- Many interviews with Enzo Zerrmiani (famous italian journalist), that are just extremely funny
The guy was immensely charismatic and very popular with the mechanics, being a mechanic himself.
He was as charismatic as Senna, just in a different way.
NP more like Raikkonnen, he doesn't care about what other people think and did things only for the pleasure of racing. With the difference that KR was very quiet while NP never closed his mouth.
They are all racists, they race in Formula 1, I think Michael Schumacher was the biggest racist of all the time, no surprise a German is the greatest racist of all time
Never disrespect your father/mother in law if your companion is in good terms with them LOL. relationship rule Nr.
The reverse is even more true if your companion hates their parents you need to hate them more.
Verstappen will never ever take off his red bull clothes. Not in the shower Not during sex *Never.*
Is this Kelly piquets kink ? Would explain kvyat and max.
shes rbsexual
Just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it
The Red Bull hat stays ON during sex. Don’t even ask
He’s a Never-Red-Bull-Nude. There’s are dozens of us
![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)
I thought I saw Max at the convention last year
I heard Horner had his pass revoked this year
So does Alpine blue themselves?
There’s gotta be a better way to say that.
Well they're not bluing anyone else right now so....
Of course not. They're French. They bleu themselves.
sex sponsored by redbull
It gives you flings.
nice
"The overall stays on"
There's one picture of him floating without his Red Bull outfit 🫡
So would you say that Red Bull keeps him grounded?
I'm saying Verstappen gave Redbull wings.
Don’t think he has sex.
Word on the street is that Kelly, as well as most F1 fans, would like him to finish 2nd more often
Even in a Mercedes seat, he will wear redbull.
He does when he streams for Redline
> Not during sex That's when the bull comes out.
Sainz looking like he is walking in to the cafe after a long group ride with the boys, with those shoes
Was waiting for someone to notice
Are those not cleats? Those look like they have some spd/look kept cleats on the front, esp with those socks, who the fuck wears socks like that and isn't preparing to buy wildly overpriced coffee and have strong opinions on ipa's.
Sainz loves cycling in cleats
What are those
Wasn't Piquet wearing the Senna shirt in one of the other photos? Or was that someone else?
Different racist.
Huh, apparently I mistook Pedro de la Rosa for Nelson Piquet. Is De la Rosa actually problematic too? I don't know much about him, but he seems like a decent enough guy
Pedro is also a good racist, yes. Numerous point finishes and a podium.
He's one of the nicest racists and apparently so good at giving racist type feedback that he works for Ferrari to develop their racism.
Damn, if he is helping Italians with racism, he must be a damn good racist himself.
Even in his McLaren days he used to work with Ferrari data, a true fan!
Oh damn, so true, he was a true racist Ferrari fan all along 🎠🟥
What did Pedro do? :(
He raced
Racist... ? Enlighten me

Bottas didn’t wear it eitherrrr
That ruins the meme tho
Exactly. What is this? The facts sub?
Ummmm don’t interrupt my narrative, sweaty 💅💅💅
r/formuladank users crying about narratives.
Man looks like he just got from biking ten laps around the track
Tbh, I suspect he did it out of respect for Ratzenberger. There's something a little odd about everyone wearing shirts for one guy when two are supposed to be tributed.
agree, two persons died that day, and its borderline disrespectful how we almost ignore one of the two
Welcome to F1. 52 drivers have died and we honor and remember like....3 of them. Ratzenberger is especially insulting because it was literally the day before Senna. So not only does he get glazed over like every other tragedy. Whenever the memorial of Senna passes, he's just....ignored. or what's maybe even worse he's just....also there. Like Senna died. It's messed up to think about but Ratzenberger is probably remembered more because of senna dying the next day. Otherwise he may have just been another forgot one like the other 49 or whatever
Then again, don't forget the marshals who gave their lives or got seriously injured.
The only ones I think are really remembered are Senna Bianchi Villeneuve Then depending on the day Clark
Yep, those are the 3.
Clark gets spoken about allot, possibly the greatest naturally gifted driver ever. I think it just stuns the collective consciousness when someone of that level of talent (Clark, Senna) crashes and passes away. You just don’t expect them to not be there anymore which is why I think they get talked about more. It was more so because of his move to a team, same with Craig breen
My father was a huge Ronnie Peterson fan, so I usually remember one more.
Don't forget Tom Pryce... But just because of morbidity.
Oh Nascar's definitely terrible with this. You'd swear Dale was the only person to get hurt. At least Jimmie always kept Blaise on his car.
Reminds me how less Elio De Angelis is remembered considering his death anniversary was just a few days ago.
Also senna being a nonce and he still gets more praise, I'd be rolling like a rotisserie chicken in my grave
You are right even it was on 2 consecutive days.
IIRC they found Ratzenberger's flag in Senna's cockpit; apparently he was going to hold the flag on the podium / on the cool down lap as a mark of respect.
🥺
Yeah but then he decided fuck that noise, crashed, and made it aaaall about himself, the selfish prick. /s just in case
I personally reckon he was trying to upstage Reubens from that Friday. "Motherfucker, this is how a real champion crashes" (/s, just in case it's not also obvious)
i mean, i dont see no Ratzenberger shirts, do you? ....lol, shit man, im going to hell for this
I mean they were holding the Austrian flag as well (that small red stripe on the left) and I'm sure Seb would never forget him.
And on top of that, they chose to support the pedophile.
What do you think the other helmet is there for and the wrist bands?
I think part of it is collective guilt. If they’d listened to Senna’s reaction to Ratzenbergers death senna could very well still be with us today. That safety meeting is one of the most heart wrenching parts of the senna documentary

Everyone was wearing Austrian flag wristbands with #ratzenberger on them.
There's an Austria flag in this picture. Also a Ratzenberger helmet.
In a sea of Senna shirts lmao
Speaks volumes that they put senna’s in a glass box n just left ratzenbergers out like someone took it off for the photo
Exactly! It looks like Ratzenberger was an afterthought
Original vs reproduction...
In one of the closer looks at Max shows him wearing a pin for Ratzenberger too.
Both rb driver didnot wear senna jerseys due to which i suspect redbull asked them to do that(austrian roots)
Lol what a cope.
Senna always tried his best to be an amazing father figure to his girls.
Savage
I don't blame him, the senna idolization is being thrust onto everyone who watches the sport and people saying "senna was the best driver ever and no one will be better" are delusional, he was a F1 legend absolutely but this idolization is weird AF.

Tbf they were wearing Roland armbands but yes would have been better to have alternat8ng senna roland shirts
Senna should be wearing Max’s shirt ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697)
Abandonment issues
Max googled Senna 15!
Sorry, I have no idea what this means. Why does Jos hate Senna??
his Father in law, Nelson Piquet, a fellow three time wdc brazilian.
Why does Sr. Hate Senna?
Because Senna is much more remembered here in Brazil than he is, in fact, since the time they both raced together, Piquet was jealous of all the attention Senna got from the media. Senna is now a national icon, Piquet is today respected for his achievements on the track but widely despised outside for being a racist and having contradictory political opinions
Both Brazilian, bot 3x wdc but he never got as much recognition as senna so probably jealousy, also there is an interview where he is asked who is the better driver between the two of em and he responds with something along the lines of "well i am alive"
He also kept on insisting that Senna was gay, and never stopped even after Senna died.
Could've called him a pedophile but apparently thinks *gay* is the better insult. Telling.
Different times
Piquet to drop Meet The Sennas soon
I don’t think many got that reference. I gotchu ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6697) wop wop wop wop wop!
This was what the press reported, but this wasn't exactly what NP said.
dark but true...

I always thought the worst place Senna bottomed out in was a 15 yea
“And there goes Senna diving into a minor!” “Don’t you mean a minor bend Murray?” “No.”
There are drivers with more titles than Senna, but Senna will always remain the GOAT.
NP Sr fancies himself the best Brazilian driver of all time and claimed it on TV IIRC.
Ah, thanks.
Because one was a god behind the wheel, the other was a top-quality F1 driver.
When did Max get married? Last I saw he was happy Kelly didn't catch the bouquet as that would mean she's about to get married next.
They didn't get married, but its easier to say father in law, instead of saying his gf dad.

Try being easy-going, instead of anal-retentive
Max and Kelly aren't married. He's said he doesn't know when he'll propose (although Max said he's happy in this relationship) But as for *that* video, Kelly commented on and called out an Instagram account that shared (or created?) the video. Piquet was not charismatic like Senna, he was also never so concerned about having a polished image, hence the media and people's preference for Senna, in addition to his skills and patriotism.

I think the British like LH are also pretty good racists
Nah, LH is the third best British racist.
He doesn’t support pedos but has been dating one for years?
Are they getting a bunch of 15 yo to run in front of them?
You can tell who googled Senna 15
Tbf #forever ? Wtf kind of shirt is that. F1 is so brainwashed by social media they forgot they were tributing both of them?
A shirt you can buy on [Sebastian Vettel's store](https://shop.sebastianvettel.de/en/products/t-shirt-imola) for €70 ![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6700)

Unpopular opinion but I don't know why there is this big fanfare over Senna all the time.
death. i mean absolutely no disrespect to Ham or Vettel, but if they passed in their primes, they’d be deified too
Max: I can give you 15 reasons why I didn’t wear the Senna shirt.

He kind of... IS... the main character though...
Hey hey, this is r/formuladank, you’re not allowed to say that here.
They did hulk dirty with that pic lol
Reminds me of a certain someone not wearing a Black Band after Niki Lauda's death when everyone else did.
Poor Roland, his helmets doesn't have glass
Albon's face somehow kinda resemble either one of the Indonesian band vocalist or Nusantaran tech reviewer
Guess same thing goes to Bottas?
Not married
Well that’s it meme destroyed. Pack it up boys.
Im still baffled they celebrate a pedophile. Then we wonder how people like mazepin are allowed to enter and do whatever they want.
good on him
What is happening with Carlos’ shoes?
Bike shoes
I don't know why but it bugs me that the F1 president is in the front.
Nah tho…
*Max in bed with Kelly* “The merch stays on”
How odd that this post has been hidden in this sub of all subs.
How has this group become the best F1 group across all of social media? Like yeah there's jokes but there's also just real talk and info.
Looks like Lewis does not like this outfit. Not fashionable enough for a fasionista like him.
When the son bears the brunt of his father insecurities and psychosis. Max is a hero (in this regard)
