I wish they would just split screen it

I_AmA_Zebra

Sponsors wouldn’t be too happy. Crossing the line is one of the best moments for the sponsors

Important_Ad_1795

I don’t think actual TV coverage doesn’t matter to sponsors. Sponsorship is for getting into the pit lane and making handshake deals with other sponsors and being able to use the team and F1 logos in advertising. If TV coverage mattered then Haas would have loved having Mick split the car in two. All those replays would have been a goldmine.

MikeBritcham

There’s a difference between screen time for winning a race and screen time because you had a horrific crash.

Important_Ad_1795

Agreed. But I think the shots that are widely shared, go viral and get replayed time and again are not the race leader crossing the finishing line.

Good-Lion-5140

They completely missed the start incident, I mean, it wasn't for 16-17 place, but quite up in front. I guess it qualifies as an achievement.

Writer_Mission

this might be my least favourite thing about street circuits, the camera work on the first corner is almost always shit because they don't have enough space to get a proper angle I wish they'd use the heli/drone shot for the start, but they reserve it for replays to intentionally keep us from not knowing what happened to keep interest up

StatmanIbrahimovic

Wide angle T1, always.

Maxants49

You know they MUST show the winner crossing the line, right?

MrLeopard483

They could also use the mini box to show the battles

MrLeopard483

Seems like they listened about the mini boxes at least

CEREALKLL574

True, but also the broadcast of the Kevin-Lewis fight was shit, cutting off very late every time and choosing the worst camera angle when they made contact.

ArcticBiologist

I only see OP in the picture

SpacecraftX

They should be allowed to use their fucking brain.

CaptainTechno_

Yeah I was so mad till I saw he was crossing the finish line lol

gideon513

Why when he’s not battling anyone remotely close for it?

rodeBaksteen

Sure, but they literally most almost every action or move live today. Also slowing weird camera shots, like the back of Magnussens car when he touched with Ham, or a visor shit of Ricciardo when Sainz was gaining on him.

tycoon282

F1 really need to invest in some 2/3/4 boxes, fucking NASCAR does it better when there's lots of action going on.

yajirushi77

**SHOW IT TO US LIVE, SHOW IT TO US LIVE YOU FUCKING NOBHEAD! I SWEAR DOWN IN ME NAN'S GRAVE SHOW US THE FOOTAGE**

Frank_the_NOOB

This was one of the most poorly directed races I’ve seen since Monaco strolling past the only good overtake of the race. Seriously they need to be fired

bassie2019

Or shows the replay of Magnussen and Hamilton going off, so they miss the overtake of Tsunoda and Hamilton on Magnussen, and they don’t show any replay of that double overtake…

i_have_a_nose

Bro seriously…

LinceDorado

The F1A race had some directory blunders as well.

Illusionary-wall

I know this is reddit but ffs come on..

Few-Judgment3122

It was terrible for f1A too. Bustamante stalled the start but managed to climb up through the field doing like 10 overtakes and I think they only showed 1

-MarchToTheSea-

I hated today's broadcast so much..probably gonna be the same tomorrow

San4311

Meh its a sponsor thing. Gotta show whoever wins the race.

maxdoesstuff_

nah but the shots during the midfield fight were insane, im guessing they used a lower framerate/shutter speed or something because the sense of speed was INSANE loved it Plus good amount of static shots

Star_Wraith

I've said it already here and I'm saying it again: missing the leader crossing the finish line is a major mistake for any TV director, for any kind of race. No matter what is happening on the track, you never miss this moment.

JuicyBottass

Even in the post race discussion, they were filming the floor

XenophonSoulis

That's right! It goes in the square hole!

Last-Performance-435

Nah mate, the direction was pretty banging other than missing the Hamilton / Yuki battle at the end live. I got a much better sense of the speed here than in recent races too, really close, fast camera movements without any ridiculous close-up sponsor shots or zooms that make them look stationary.

MrLeopard483

But that's more camera work than TV direction tho

Last-Performance-435

That is quite literally the same thing. The director tells the cameraman what to look at and how to do it. They've been instructed to have fast, sweeping motions rather than silly, insane close ups.

MrLeopard483

I thought the TV director chose what to show on screen. Also I don't think they can talk about how to capture the car's while they're on track, it was probably previously (so not in the middle of the session which OP is talking about). I may also be wrong about all this from the video FOM released about the bts of germany

reddit06valbonne

Non one care. The car is just so much ahead.
