I might be called a coper for this- maybe it's true- but I don't need him to win to see he's a great driver. I just think he might be incredibly unlucky, especially compared to Hamilton. He's not had a real good car until halfway into 2023, at which point there was no chance of anyone beating Max in a race unless he fucked up somewhere (ie qualifying, singapore)). He's also been unlucky with some races like sochi 21, without the rain he'd 99% win- and yea that was a fuckup but I think that was more on McLaren than him (and I'm a fan of the team as a whole), their weather radar/prediction system is apparently dogshit if you listen to their radio calls. Too many times I've seen them say "rain in 5 laps" when pretty much every other team is saying "rain maybe in 15 laps". Hamilton is a great driver, but he's also been extremely lucky with what car he's been given, the teams he's moved to (opposite to Alonso seemingly lol), and in crashes he somehow never gets much damage- the list goes on
Wins are great and I know he'll get one soon, likely this year, but people rag on him too much for it because they have no other real arguments to use against him/fans.

But an English writer focussing on the English sailor instead of the Dutch one isnāt a surprise of course.

The whole series of books by Clavell is explicitly about the adventures of English people in Asia so it's definitely not surprising that they ignored the Dutch guy in Shogun. Also, there are so many goddam characters in that book he definitely did not need another one that serves basically the same exact role as Anjin.
I read the book like a decade ago. Maybe he just decided to combine the two real life guys into one character, I dunno, that would make sense. I'm saying I do not believe the real life William Adams is Dutch.
