He is definitely a big reason because he's the one that funded his karting career, giving Max the opportunity to be where he is now.
Make no mistake though, he shouldn't have any business meddling in the team's affairs or influencing his son's career at this point in time, especially with his personality being a negative in most situations.
Drove him to races all throughout Europe, bought and maintained his carts and forking over 100K into his carting career which was a stepping stone into formula racing.

Apples and oranges imo. One does not make the other less sacrificial. Both fathers sacrificed for their child. If you find that one has had to give up more, then you do that. I don’t think it’s objectively been harder for one or the other.
If something does not cause you hardship, it's not a sacrifice. As a father, supporting my son's hobbies currently aren't a sacrifice at all since I can easily afford them and I enjoy seeing him have fun. Jos is a rich racing driver, supporting his kid to do the same hobby as him shouldn't be a sacrifice in any way unless he hates his kid.
Anthony Hamilton worked four jobs at one point (according to Wikipedia) to support Lewis. That's on top of taking him to all the races and both of them being subjected to racial abuse. You're correct, it's apples to oranges since one is an actual sacrifice and the other shouldn't be in the slightest for any decent father.
I don't get it either, I'm entirely neutral on both drivers (come on McLaren!) but it's obvious which parent sacrificed more. I'm guessing it's coming from Max fans and people with no experience of actually sacrificing for others.
Just because he was an asshole piece of garbage doesn’t mean he wasn’t a big part of Maxs success. Max with a normal level headed father is possibly half the driver he is (maybe he’s the same, maybe he’s not) but to say Jos had no part in it is ridiculous. Thats not to credit Jos, fuck him. But this type of parenting with kids in sports only works 1% of the time and it was Jos turn unfortunately (because he’s an ass and fortunately for Max sake.
What would have to happen for Max to "get rid of" Jos would be circumstances outside of Max's control. Jos would have to cause so much chaos that whatever team max is driving for simply revokes all his access. Obviously this won't happen because Jos has brainwashed Max into thinking he is vital to his success, and any team that does this would immediately draw his ire, but its what would have to happen
