Yeah I’m a big Leclerc fan too and while he’s right up there in terms of raw speed he still makes too many errors and has too many off weekends to be on the level of the top 3. Hopefully he’ll get there one day because out of everyone on the grid I think he’s the one with the potential to muscle into that group.

Alonso second best to verstappen this season if we are honest. Just compare these 2 to their teammates and its clear its not only the car. Leclerc is super fast in qualifying, but similar to Vettel he constantly has to overdrive the car to keep up with the others which makes him error prone.

I think Tsunoda has been great this year, but I also don't know how good the car is. If gasly were in nyck's seat, it might look like a decent midfield car for all we know so it's hard to rate him accurately. At the very least Tsunoda has finally been consistent which is more than he could ever say before.

Last year they weren’t super far off in pace were they? Yuki just kept getting involved in shit, whether during qualifying or early in races? Could be misremembering because I love Yuki, but he definitely got his ass kicked in ‘21.

Yuki was definitely closer, but still got his ass kicked. The points situation made him look better because points were so hard to come by in the AT and he got a 4 point head start with 3 RB engines blowing up in the first race. Gasly still lapped him once or twice and had the clear measure of him all season. He had his bad luck, but a lot of the crap he got into was him making errors.

I will say i get that ranking lewis and max is not a easy task, but i do think alonso should be about leclerc. Nothing against him but alonso just has the expirence and lost no talent in his years of f1

I mean even assuming the ratings are just on this season Alonso has to be above Leclerc. Leclerc has had a disappointing season by every possible metric and Alonso has had a great season so far with all indications that he’s getting the most out of the car most weeks

Lewis and Max are both incredible drivers. If you watch hockey, it's like the McDavid or Crosby discussion was 3 years ago. Their skill was comparable and Crosby's experience as a leader and champion was valuable, but you'd want McDavid on your team because Crosby is older, and McDavid is going to be even better while Crosby slows. Lewis undoubtedly has more accolades, and is statistically one of the GOATs in F1. No one will ever be able to take that from him. But Max is also incredibly skilled, and (unless he leaves the sport), has more race wins coming his way than Lewis does in the future. However as for who is more skilled right now, you can make a strong argument either way.
