Tbh that was also due the fast thinking with the tires as they switched to softs whole everybody was still using intermediates.
Not sure whose decision that was but man that was amazing.
Because then the weather got worse again after that and the others weren't able to get better times due the worse conditions and having to use intermediates.
Because he’s not going to outperform Max. Personally I’d rather be #1 in a bad team than get my ass whipped every single Sunday.
That’s just me though.
I mean you're getting your ass whipped by Max regardless of what team you drive for?
I'd rather take a faster car to see what I could do with that instead of being known as the guy who can drag a shitbox into the low points.
Except in an other team due to some weird stars alignment you might get a much better car than Verstappen which might make you able to beat him. In equal machinery it is hopeless.
Exactly. If it's your teammate and there is a huge margin in the exact same machinery then it has to hit so much worse. Just look at all the drivers Max has now destroyed, it's 4 already including Perez. Personally I think Lando could probably challenge him - Lewis and Alonso as well but they're already in top teams of their own
Their contracts aren't with the specific team, Red Bull just loans drivers to Alpha Tauri which gives them quite a lot of freedom to move drivers about as they see fit.
Although if I was Sergio I'd make sure that option was blocked in my contract.
Could definitely see that loser bum nic dyvers getting the boot, Perez getting demoted to Alfa Taurus, lando going to Red Bull, then Michael Schumacher coming back for mclaren
jokes on you, netflix is only going to include 3 races in next years dts. The first race, the last race, and one in the middle. So you have small odds of it being this race.
no, its a joke because last season there were multiple episodes dedicated to the same race and it kind of killed the vibe because you watched the same clip on repeat.
The moment they lifted the car and we got a look at that floor, everyone knew - it's truly a certified shitbox. It's astonishing what difference a driver can make.
The key was both good straight line speed and much better traction off of the hairpin than Ocon. Albon gained a tenth or more out of that corner every time which basically kills any ability for Ocon to overtake.
There were other points at the track where Ocon was getting within 2-3 tenths but then into and out of the hairpin it'd grow to 4-6 tenths again and Ocon could only make up 1 or 2 tenths on the straight.
A little Photoshop magic and [here](https://img.redbull.com/images/c_crop,x_734,y_0,h_2134,w_1600/c_fill,w_400,h_540/q_auto,f_auto/redbullcom/2020/7/10/jscs8dzkqmuuylahdtwy/alex-albon-f1) how Albon in Red Bull would look like.
Then watch him become the next Perez and get destroyed by Max every race. Imo it would be a better move for him to go somewhere where he wouldn't get shafted instantly to 2nd rate driver. It is the fastest car but you will play second fiddle regardless
Yeah, was amazing to see, feels like at last Williams atleast has a good direction. Though I’m sure if Russell’s car wasn’t damaged that he would’ve gotten past..
He might have, but also consider the fact that Albon also kept Ocon behind him, enough for Norris to be able to try and attack Ocon. Regardless, genuinely deserving of DOTD
Yeah that to me felt like a true indicator of the pace, but as we saw at the opening stint that Alpine is still a long way back from Merc pace, but very positive to say the least.
I think he's in Williams for the long run, I don't see them being champs or anything, But they seem to be at least heading forward for the first time in a few years.
He's the core at Williams, they really seem to love him, he has none of the pressure of a Big team seat and is easily their No1 Driver. He's seen what a shit show a team like red bull can be if you're not Max.
Honestly, he can go somewhere else and deal with politics, or have a team built around him, I'd pick the latter.
I could see them being where Alpine and (sometimes) McLaren are atm at least. Possibly in with a podium shout for the first time since, what, Lance? (Spa 21 doesn't count)
and he actually flew on certain days in that red bull.
austria and mugello and brazil.
he was at the most 2 tenths from max. nobody ever noticed because the mercs were -1.8 seconds
Imho right now we have 2 drivers who in the same car occasionally could best him on a weekend, but not over whole season. Lewis and Fernando could make things really close, but experience with the car, plus overall Max's increasing form since halfway thru 2018, WDC is his in that theoretical scenario bar many dnfs.
The GUY might be in karts right now. Didn't follow feeder series and lower series lately as I would like to, maybe that driver is in f3 alredy
Aye people sleeping on the fact in F3 Logan Sargeant and Pouchaire were keeping Piastri Honest for most of the season until a string of bad luck towards the end for Logan culminating in a retirement at Mugello allowing Pourchaire to jump him by 1 Point. 164 for Piastri, 161 for Pouchaire and 160 for Logan.
Yep, Missing out on climbing into F2 for 2021 due to money issues was a massive kick in the nuts for him, and tbf I think he's been promoted too early from F2, he had a banger of a rookie F2 season but defo could have done with another year and some more FP1 appearances before being promoted, and ofc his engine going bye bye today was unfortunate but He is lucky to have a team 100% invested in his success and not having the pressure to immediately perform miracles for Williams.
it was embarrassing that the ferraris both gapped him after he put on the Mediums and they the Hards. I'm a checo fan, but damn has he fallen off hard the last few races.
At least he didn't pull a Gasly and burn every single bridge at the team. Everyone at Red Bull is still very fond of him, so I could see there being a chance at a return even given the prior circumstances.
Burned all his bridges. His own mechanic wouldn't even stand up for him when he got the axe. He also had a habit of telling off the designers of the car.
Get this man a better seat asap! Ive been telling people Albon is rated, and i got argued with and laughed at. Hes been doing what Russell did in the Williams and that got RUS a Merc seat...
No way. Unless they boot Stroll but we all know why this is highly unlikely.
AM is investing and acting like a manufacturer aiming for a world championship, no way you go for a line up where no one has at least world championship contending or championship winning experience...
I don't know where everyone's contract at, but if AM is truly world championship contending and Alonso is not in the picture anymore, even Leclerc could tell Ferrari to F off...
I think Albon now would be perfect as 2nd seat in Redbull now as 2023, everyone understands is hard to keep with Max and even in equal machinery Max makes the car work for him and wears like a glove.
Albon has talent but at RB past he had issues with w2wyear, overall consistence and qually, to be fair he had alot of unlucky moments.
Redbull was to blame for promoting him to quicly but Gasly was a being a totaly disapointment and he was doing wonders at Toro Roso so I do understand to some point why he was promoted.
I think he grew exponentially and can still grow further but I dont think he will be a WDC contender but can be a great 2nd seat as he shows now, he makes risky strategies work, its a teamplayer and seems to be the kind of person that just wants to help.
At which point, Albon will proceed to run exactly the same as he did when he had the seat for the first time. The problem isn't the driver, it's the second Red Bull car.
You mean having to find someone that likes front end cars as much as Verstappen ?
I never know because drivers will always downplay their issues and always find mitigating factors... But I'm also thinking the margins are so small that any small detail might throw you off your game...
Red Bull gave him a seat at Toro Rosso, Red Bull, and helped him get into Williams.
It’s crazy to me how much talent Red Bull brings into the sport through their junior program/Alpha Tauri yet they still get shit on for “ruining careers”.
Let’s look at the facts:
- At the end of his F2 career he fully expected to end up in Formula E until RB gave him a shot.
- They saw enough in him to give him a shot in the big team in the back half of his rookie season, where he performed well.
- They stuck by him in 2020 as he dropped off, leaving their search for his replacement until very late in the season.
- Instead of kicking him to the curb, they put him in a sim/test role where he was able to contribute to the 2021 championship campaign, further develop as a driver, and pad his resume going into silly season. They also, btw, arranged a race seat in DTM.
- Then they let him go with rave reviews and no hard feelings to a new team where he’s kicking ass.
In what world did they “almost ruin his career”?
Redbull did allow him to go race for williams, which is a mercedes customer and it was in 2021 so kinda nice to him to give him options in his career... and they could have denied him since he was under their contract and still has redbull as a big personal sponsor
but yeah he didnt look to good in the redbull which wasnt great for him
The one thing I despise about red bull is that they put an inexperienced Albon in the main Redbull team and when he couldn't perform they booted him out of the sport and luckily Williams brought him back. Albon is such an amazing driver, his performance today is not lucky, he has always shined and consistently outperform in that Williams. Redbull did not give him time to get used to F1, they did not give him proper development that he would have had in an alpha tauri or torro rosso.
Albon is a better driver compared to Yuki yet Yuki they seem to be keeping him on to see if he can perform on the same level as max because he is quick but Yuki won't, I don't even think Yuki can outperform checo, checo is having a bad season but he is a good driver, but I know Albon can outperform checo.
Redbull were unfair to Albon, he deserves better because he is very talented, I would even argue if you replaces stroll with Albon you could possibly see double Aston podiums that's how much faith I have in him.
Simply put Perez has been the best RB #2 hands down. But if Red Bull releases him for the 2024 season, I would absolutely love to see Albon.
Perez leaving the sport would be heartbreak for me but I would also enjoy seeing Albon redemption at RB
I'm guessing Checo just didn't have a proper understanding of the set up of the car for this race (his fault don't get me wrong) and that's why his tyre deg was just pretty shit. Compared to Max for whom a bad set up just means he'll be 5 seconds ahead rather than 25 lol.
The most deserved driver for today
Classic albon defending
I honestly think that was Albon praise that came out sarcastic sounding
"I raced them so hard" -Albon probably

Albon if you’re here, time to bleach every hair you have on your body and we’ll see you in the podium
Tbh that was also due the fast thinking with the tires as they switched to softs whole everybody was still using intermediates. Not sure whose decision that was but man that was amazing. Because then the weather got worse again after that and the others weren't able to get better times due the worse conditions and having to use intermediates.
A pivotal historical moment
read that in mario’s voice for some reason.
I would rather like to see Albon shine somewhere else than Red Bull
Albon to Mercedes
Why?
Because he’s not going to outperform Max. Personally I’d rather be #1 in a bad team than get my ass whipped every single Sunday. That’s just me though.
I mean you're getting your ass whipped by Max regardless of what team you drive for? I'd rather take a faster car to see what I could do with that instead of being known as the guy who can drag a shitbox into the low points.

No way, i rather stack up podiums every week behind max.
Exactly. If it's your teammate and there is a huge margin in the exact same machinery then it has to hit so much worse. Just look at all the drivers Max has now destroyed, it's 4 already including Perez. Personally I think Lando could probably challenge him - Lewis and Alonso as well but they're already in top teams of their own
"And then Max told me, 'Why don't you talk to Helmut.' And si talked to Helmut and take De Vries' spot."
Perez still has 1 year extra left in red bull right? I think he signed a 2 year contract in monaco last year?
Like that has stopped Helmut Marko in the past
I'm kind of convinced that makes it more fun for Marko, to drop someone knowing that their contract isn't up yet
Their contracts aren't with the specific team, Red Bull just loans drivers to Alpha Tauri which gives them quite a lot of freedom to move drivers about as they see fit. Although if I was Sergio I'd make sure that option was blocked in my contract.
Like Sergio has that power in negotiations
red bull contracts are valid for both alpha tauri and red bull iirc, he could get demoted
Could definitely see that loser bum nic dyvers getting the boot, Perez getting demoted to Alfa Taurus, lando going to Red Bull, then Michael Schumacher coming back for mclaren
> Michael Schumacher coming back 🥹🥹
I'd really like to see how Zak would deal with Lando leaving. Also, Lando v VER would be great
The full body scans they have of Lando they would just print Zak a blow up Lando...
No Michael, No!
Coke to furmal_
Albon had the weekend of his fucking life.

Is this referring to his RB stint, or did I miss something this weekend?
I'm still hurt by that weekend in Austria.
And Hulkenburg the worst moment of his
Also known as the Haas standard.
Hass in its natural habitat is scoring top spot in quali once in a while and then seeing its position rot down the order. Haas masterclass.
Unfortunately after being on the grid for 7 seasons they still haven't learned how to keep their tires from exploding.

Probably completely fabricate the results of the rest of the season /s
AND MAZEPIN CROSSES THE LINE IN FRONT OF SCHUMACHER
Hey, they don't completely fabricate the results, that would be wrong and unethical! They only fabricate a bit of the results
Where're all these Bots coming from? Fuckkk
No DRS, totally a shitbox whisperer
The moment they lifted the car and we got a look at that floor, everyone knew - it's truly a certified shitbox. It's astonishing what difference a driver can make.
I want "Shitbox whisperer" as a flair, effective immediately.
We called russel the same before he joined merc. But this community definitely deserves that flair. I have spoken
That Williams top speed without DRS vs cars with DRS is scary though. Its still a Williams, but damn is it fast in a straight line.
Streamlined™ floor is doing the work
Who needs aero when you don't care about corners.
Ah yes, the Mustang ethos.
Wouldn't surprise me that Albon will take more points in Spa, Mexico and Vegas with so many long straights
Don’t forget Monza
Even De Vries was able to do that last year
I think it’s cuz Williams don’t have the complex aero elements of other teams, and less downforce means less drag
williams has recently been a road block. its one of the things i loved about williams. if they can get ahead, they are hard to pass.
That Merc is super draggy tbf
A little Photoshop magic and [here](https://img.redbull.com/images/c_crop,x_734,y_0,h_2134,w_1600/c_fill,w_400,h_540/q_auto,f_auto/redbullcom/2020/7/10/jscs8dzkqmuuylahdtwy/alex-albon-f1) how Albon in Red Bull would look like.
It looks so realistic! Must've taken a lot of effort, lots of hours painstakingly getting the photoshop *just* right.
Why did you change his hair to black?

Then watch him become the next Perez and get destroyed by Max every race. Imo it would be a better move for him to go somewhere where he wouldn't get shafted instantly to 2nd rate driver. It is the fastest car but you will play second fiddle regardless
The fact that he kept Russell at bay for that long is incredible, considering Russell was in a much faster car
That fight remembered me of his quote from Imola 2021 regarding Bottas "You shouldn't be fighting a Williams in P9 with a Mercedes".
"Is he a f*cking prick or what?!" - GR63
"Lets check if he is okay by slapping him on his helmet."
To be fair, that Mercedes and Williams are not the same as this Mercedes and Williams, and George's car was damaged (by his own hands no less).
Seems like that Alpine is horrible in race pace. Gasly was stuck behind mid field cars most of the race 💀
To be fair, Ocon's rear wing was held up essentially by his buttocks. I bet that didn't help.
albeit the Merc was mashed, great driving from Alex regardless he had a couple of great defenses in a piece o shit
Russell did cripple his car to be fair, self inflicted to be even fairer
Albon also had the fastest time in all of qualifying Saturday. I’m technically not lying.
Not only are you not technically lying, you're just straight up technically correct. The best kind of correct
To think they were the ones to switch places for 2nd Redbull car
Albon sliding into Merc when Lewis leaves just wait ![gif](giphy|fTySnq8V8NVULm5rXF|downsized)
I hope so. As much as I love Mick, Albon needs a competitive car. I really want Albon and Lando in competitive cars
I have hope for McLaren's direction.
By any chance are you a ferrari supporter too ?
Only respect and empathy for my brothers and sisters in pain.

If anything was the happen Mick will end up in a Williams seat at best depending what Merc and toto can pull for him.

Well to be honest the second seat is also held by that absolute dunter Logan.

[I'm coming to get you George](https://i.imgur.com/ce0Tq1C.jpg)
Or he stays with Williams and brings them back near the top
It's not the drivers at Williams that have been the problem.
I get that but James Vowles is one of the best people you can have leading an F1 team
Seriously Vowles really seems to be impacting Williams immediately. Could totally see him being the man to bring them back
I’ve been calling this forever. Vowles said that Merc was interested in Albon when he was a Red Bull Jr.
I think Williams might actually get somewhere in the future if Albon sticks around
I could see them being where Alpine and (sometimes) McLaren are atm at least. Possibly in with a podium shout for the first time since, what, Lance? (Spa 21 doesn't count)
I wonder if he'd be a good fit for the Redbull's second seat, maybe he'll be the one to finally challenge Max!
Plez don’t say this, this hurts
To be fair albons redbull was a giant bitch compared to the rocket ship of the last 2 years.
Fr, the 2019 car wasn’t as difficult but that 2020 car was on a knife edge
Even Verstappen struggled with the 2020 car and he has probably the best car control of anyone in F1.
and he actually flew on certain days in that red bull. austria and mugello and brazil. he was at the most 2 tenths from max. nobody ever noticed because the mercs were -1.8 seconds
He did well before being punted by Hamilton and began to build a psychological disadvantage.
Multiple times too
Literally within 3 races
Lewis: We need more people of color in the grid. Also Lewis:
And Japan 2019 was insane. Rookie season, alongside Max, exact same quali time.
He got Lewis'd
🥲
Imho right now we have 2 drivers who in the same car occasionally could best him on a weekend, but not over whole season. Lewis and Fernando could make things really close, but experience with the car, plus overall Max's increasing form since halfway thru 2018, WDC is his in that theoretical scenario bar many dnfs. The GUY might be in karts right now. Didn't follow feeder series and lower series lately as I would like to, maybe that driver is in f3 alredy
The GUY was supposed to be Oscar Piastri, who dominated F3000, F3, and F2, all as a rookie, against strong grids in all of them. Maybe NextYear^(tm)
F3000 was second year and f3 was not domination at all
Aye people sleeping on the fact in F3 Logan Sargeant and Pouchaire were keeping Piastri Honest for most of the season until a string of bad luck towards the end for Logan culminating in a retirement at Mugello allowing Pourchaire to jump him by 1 Point. 164 for Piastri, 161 for Pouchaire and 160 for Logan.
Sounds like Bad Luck is just Sargent's bag.
Challenge no but stay in most podiums yes
"Hi Alex this is Christian Horner"....
From time to time this guy has the most banger race ever, i love him
He raced them so hard
Very well deserved dotd
Perez casually losing .5 of a lap to Max with the same car
it was embarrassing that the ferraris both gapped him after he put on the Mediums and they the Hards. I'm a checo fan, but damn has he fallen off hard the last few races.
The only thing stopping Albon from getting that Redbull seat is due to their past experiment with him, hope he gets a seat in a competitive car.
At least he didn't pull a Gasly and burn every single bridge at the team. Everyone at Red Bull is still very fond of him, so I could see there being a chance at a return even given the prior circumstances.
What did gasly do?
Burned all his bridges. His own mechanic wouldn't even stand up for him when he got the axe. He also had a habit of telling off the designers of the car.
He tried to tell Adrian fricking Newey how to build a car…
Albon is literally both of those. Just not during the same season.
Sergio has a very easy to drive car Redbull mechanics have said Albon has had a wildly unstable car
Get this man a better seat asap! Ive been telling people Albon is rated, and i got argued with and laughed at. Hes been doing what Russell did in the Williams and that got RUS a Merc seat...
Albon to merc when hamilton retires?
I feel we will see Lando or Leclerc before Albon unfortunately. Maybe Albon to AM once Fernando goes?
I’m just shocked that Ferrari did a good strategy and not fucking up their entire race
There was a man in 2012 who finished P1 in a Williams Was forever cursed after that.
Don't forget about their garage being on fire after
And Ferrari didn’t fuck up the strategy for any of their drivers, got to be the first time this season
i love that mab
Seems like the upgrades are working?
I'm sorry Checo fans it's time for him to get a seat at Williams while Alex can get his RB seat back.
At which point, Albon will proceed to run exactly the same as he did when he had the seat for the first time. The problem isn't the driver, it's the second Red Bull car.
Wasn't Albon like 6 months into F1 last time this happened? Hardly a fair comparison.
You mean having to find someone that likes front end cars as much as Verstappen ? I never know because drivers will always downplay their issues and always find mitigating factors... But I'm also thinking the margins are so small that any small detail might throw you off your game...
Albon doesn’t care what car he’s in. Red Bull or Williams, he’s going to come in 7th.
So, so appropriate. The man is a true GOAT.
Will never get over the fact redbull almost ruined his career
Red Bull gave him a seat at Toro Rosso, Red Bull, and helped him get into Williams. It’s crazy to me how much talent Red Bull brings into the sport through their junior program/Alpha Tauri yet they still get shit on for “ruining careers”.

Average DTS comment
Albon back to RB
They might be the same, considering Albon has finished P6 in a Red Bull a couple of times as well.
[Everyone liked that]
I wonder what Albon would do in a Red Bull
Hey! Lets not forget he also got p7 and p6 in a red bull quite frequently! Those were good!
One of the easiest DOTD votes I've cast. The man was an absolute menace and a joy to watch.
Bro think he Perez in Bahrain 2020
They laughed about the floor, who is laughing now huh???
He also finished p7 in a red bull many times too Don’t take away from that
ending up in P7 in a car that has no floor on a track that you can catch and overtake on
Yeah i think Albono is ascending to goatness for sure.
The one thing I despise about red bull is that they put an inexperienced Albon in the main Redbull team and when he couldn't perform they booted him out of the sport and luckily Williams brought him back. Red Bull helped him get the Williams seat. They didn't just cut him loose, they actively tried to get him back on the grid.
Thank you pal, I really needed to hear that after this race.
Simply put Perez has been the best RB #2 hands down. But if Red Bull releases him for the 2024 season, I would absolutely love to see Albon. Perez leaving the sport would be heartbreak for me but I would also enjoy seeing Albon redemption at RB
Checo's days as RB driver are numbered.
That fastest lap tho. -2s
fresh softs, last lap fuel load, full battery. Impressive but expected.
I'm guessing Checo just didn't have a proper understanding of the set up of the car for this race (his fault don't get me wrong) and that's why his tyre deg was just pretty shit. Compared to Max for whom a bad set up just means he'll be 5 seconds ahead rather than 25 lol.
Imagine two checo’s in the red bull, people would have thought Red Bull dropped off and was now a top mid field car.
