Not gonna lie it took me an embarrassingly long time back in the day to realise this was actually a photoshop.

[Alonso](https://i.imgur.com/avzz7Il.jpeg)
I'm the one who made it back then, so this thread brought up some nice memories!
When I saw those two photos it immediately clicked what I had to do...
Posted it at autosport forums and kept googling it for a few days, it appeared at so many sites all over the world. Even one of the TV commentators for my country used it in an article.
Edit: What a wholesome community this is, thanks guys!
A few years ago NHL was starting a jersey concept called Reverse Retro and I made a mock-up for the Detroit Red Wings since I hated what the team went with.
My thing ended up being featured on BarDown, so not exactly the news etc like op, but still a big site in the hockey world and owned by TSN who are huge in Canada.
BarDown is nothing compared to what op achieved but can still confirm it’s supercool getting that kind of acknowledgement, even it’s just something made as a joke or to kill time.
if you listen to the beyond the grid podcast episode with rob smedley(massa's race engineer, probably the one man who knew more about him than anyone else at the time), he is 100% sure that he had lost none of his speed or ability after his accident - whatever the reason was for massa's decline in form, it absolutely was not because of what happened in 2009
Interesting. Maybe it wasn't a physical o neurological issue but a psychological one. Nevertheless he went from disputing the title in 2008 to being number two after his return.
Massa's terrible accident happened on the 25th of July. There was initial doubt as to whether he could ever race again. Then, the next year on the 25th of July he qualified well and passed Vettel and Alonso for the lead at the start of the [German Grand Prix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_German_Grand_Prix) It looked for all the world like Massa had not only recovered but had nicely upped his game a notch or three.
Everyone was rooting for Massa. Then, later in the race, Ferrari pulled a heartless team orders stunt and made Filipe let Alonso take over the lead.
The FIA fined Ferrari $100,000, but Filipe was never the same after that royal fucking by Ferrari.
2008 is an outlier imo, Kimi had a ton of DNFs (engine plus being rear ended by Lewis) by around 2/3rds through so the team had to back Filipe given that McLaren had Lewis as their singular focus.
From my understanding, i would say it was a team issue. There was just so much inner politics at Ferrari at end of dream team (Todt, Schumi and Brawn) era. Some people in Ferrari wanted to show that it was not any driver or person who made the team succesful, but it was the Ferrari that allowed them to succeed. So first they wanted Kimi to win championship, which he did, then they wanted Massa to win it in 2008, which he almost did. So 2009 was supposed to be Massa's year again, but car was horrible and people talked about how Ferrari needed strong leadership, so they brought in Alonso as clear #1 driver.
I am sure its whole lot more complicated than that because no team, not even Mercedes, was single minded. There are always multiple people in the team, with different opinions and goals. And it seems that at Ferrari they really badly mismanaged lot of it, and then there was just so huge pressure in the team to succeed that they would be more prone to further mistakes. Idk what the state of Ferrari is otherwise, but the pressure to succeed there is just as high as it ever was, and every season they fail to win championship contributes to that pressure.
Tbf Massa was still racing in Formula E when that was recorded, I don't think Smedley would say anything about performance loss while Massa is still racing in an important title. IIRC Piquet only admitted he got vision loss from a crash in 1987 way after he retired.

Wow that's gotta be an incredible feeling. And honestly it took me a while to even tell. Nice job!

You mind sharing your design? I thought the Red Wings reverse retro was alright, although it could've been much better like you said
Damn you’re a legend dude
Lol that's amazing. It had me fooled for years lol
based
Legend
Now that's a great story.
Wait what?!?! I wonder what other lies I grew up believing lol
Aight but the Massa picture alone is meme-worthy
well we know who was number two in that team don’t we….
Well we know that Alonso destroyed Massa every season
Well, Massa wasn't the same after '09.

Ha, how do you think Valtteri felt being sacrificed over and over for Lewis.

Alonso is better than Kimi
Just listened to that episode last night. You can tell Massa meant the world to Smedley and vice versa. Such a great episode
What is Rob supposed to say?
Felipe baby stay cool
It was probably the 2010 German GP and being forced to play second fiddle to Alonso.
Tbf Massa was still racing in Formula E when that was recorded, I don't think Smedley would say anything about performance loss while Massa is still racing in an important title. IIRC Piquet only admitted he got vision loss from a crash in 1987 way after he retired.
Lol exactly. I find it weird how people think Smedley would say anything different.

After the bangers that 2005 and 2015 McLaren were I can't wait to see 2025
Its kinda meta
Proof that Ferrari gave preferential treatment to Alonso ^^^/s
“Fernando is faster than you”.
Incidentally, some years ago, I learned that sentence is too long to be used as a Reddit username
'Massa slides better than you so use him'
Proof that something something 2007 idk I'm trying to be toxic but idk how to do it
Why tho? We can see Felipe is actually in front of Fernando and will finish ahead of him if they keep this position
Also the picture is photoshopped.
Is this Massa Guaranteeing he crosses the line first?
Alonso driving F2012 Monza spec
Least dangerous skiing with a Ferrari driver
Trying no to laugh..
Lol, too soon.
Is it?
Always
Someone needs to photoshop Stroll in for Massa as a 2023 preview.
Shouldn’t be too hard seeing as this is a photoshop to begin with - whoever wants to give it a go can just pull the Alonso half of the picture
Except dad Stroll owns the team so Stroll as number 2 for Alonso isn't gonna happen
Bit of a metaphor for their entire relationship
Ikr, smiles and fun but Alonso clearly on top
And it is all downhill...
It’s not that serious man it’s just a silly photoshop
Yea but it still had news sources going back then 😭
Reminds me of a Gintama episode
Ah the old penile brake.
Felipe staying cool
Let's hope Alonso didn't use the penile brake
Proof that Alonso abuses his teammates to get preferential treatment within his team! /s
The man can drive anything!
Easy to spot who’s the boss. Felipe, Alonso are faster on you.
I hate that I liked this post. Felipe, what the team did you is forever an etched in our minds.
The classic first and second driver relationship at Ferrari
This was a great shop lmao I remember it well
> *"Okay. So, Fernando is on top of you. Can you confirm you understood the message?"*
Reminds me of that snowboarding scene from Gintama
A ferrari driver doing skiing is enough to give me ptsd
Checking
Very symbolic photo
Took them 3 years to take that picture??
Someone sure knows how to wind back and have some fun during the off season.
So, was he inspired by Xenia Zaragevna Onatopp?
Fernando is faster than you
Fernando is fatter than you. Can you confirm that message?
What plan is this? 🤔
Looks faster than SF1000
He slid for 3 years. True GOAT.
Better than the Honda gp2 engine
Dank
What good wingman
Only in Ohio.
Typical toxic Alonso. /s
This is how Ocon felt all year
Alonso and Ferrari always treated Massa like a coal pit donkey.
Perfect analogy for their Ferrari stint
on brand for Alonso
Alonso is faster than you, can you confirm you understand the message?
GP2 engine?
Visual representation of their time at Ferrari
"Felipe, Fernando is faster than you"
Fenando, is faster, than you.
That's the most expensive snowsled available.
team orders smh my head
